We aim to further study the global stability of Boolean control networks(BCNs)under aperiodic sampleddata control(ASDC).According to our previous work,it is known that a BCN under ASDC can be transformed into a switched Boolean network(SBN),and further global stability of the BCN under ASDC can be obtained by studying the global stability of the transformed SBN.Unfortunately,since the major idea of our previous work is to use stable subsystems to offset the state divergence caused by unstable subsystems,the SBN considered has at least one stable subsystem.The central thought in this paper is that switching behavior also has good stabilization;i.e.,the SBN can also be stable with appropriate switching laws designed,even if all subsystems are unstable.This is completely different from that in our previous work.Specifically,for this case,the dwell time(DT)should be limited within a pair of upper and lower bounds.By means of the discretized Lyapunov function and DT,a sufficient condition for global stability is obtained.Finally,the above results are demonstrated by a biological example.

BACKGROUND Chronic liver disease(CLD)was associated with adverse clinical outcomes among people with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection.AIM To determine the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the incidence and treatment strategy of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)among patients with CLD.METHODS A retrospective,territory-wide cohort of CLD patients was identified from an electronic health database in Hong Kong.Patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection[coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)+CLD]between January 1,2020 and October 25,2022 were identified and matched 1:1 by propensity-score with those without(COVID-19-CLD).Each patient was followed up until death,outcome event,or November 15,2022.Primary outcome was incidence of HCC.Secondary outcomes included all-cause mortality,adverse hepatic outcomes,and different treatment strategies to HCC(curative,non-curative treatment,and palliative care).Analyses were further stratified by acute(within 20 d)and post-acute(21 d or beyond)phases of SARS-CoV-2 infection.Incidence rate ratios(IRRs)were estimated by Poisson regression models.RESULTS Of 193589 CLD patients(>95%non-cirrhotic)in the cohort,55163 patients with COVID-19+CLD and 55163 patients with COVID-19-CLD were included after 1:1 propensity-score matching.Upon 249-d median follow-up,COVID-19+CLD was not associated with increased risk of incident HCC(IRR:1.19,95%CI:0.99-1.42,P=0.06),but higher risks of receiving palliative care for HCC(IRR:1.60,95%CI:1.46-1.75,P<0.001),compared to COVID-19-CLD.In both acute and post-acute phases of infection,COVID-19+CLD were associated with increased risks of allcause mortality(acute:IRR:7.06,95%CI:5.78-8.63,P<0.001;post-acute:IRR:1.24,95%CI:1.14-1.36,P<0.001)and adverse hepatic outcomes(acute:IRR:1.98,95%CI:1.79-2.18,P<0.001;post-acute:IRR:1.24,95%CI:1.13-1.35,P<0.001),compared to COVID-19-CLD.CONCLUSION Although CLD patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection were not associated with increased risk of HCC,they were more likely to receive palliative treatment

In the post-genomic era, the construction and control of genetic regulatory networks using gene expression data is a hot research topic. Boolean networks (BNs) and its extension Probabilistic Boolean Networks (PBNs) have been served as an effective tool for this purpose. However, PBNs are difficult to be used in practice when the number of genes is large because of the huge computational cost. In this paper, we propose a simplified multivariate Markov model for approximating a PBN The new model can preserve the strength of PBNs, the ability to capture the inter-dependence of the genes in the network, qnd at the same time reduce the complexity of the network and therefore the computational cost. We then present an optimal control model with hard constraints for the purpose of control/intervention of a genetic regulatory network. Numerical experimental examples based on the yeast data are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed model and control policy.

＜正＞This paper studied a multiple-stage tandem production system.The control strategy is Hybrid which combines Kanban and CONWIP strategy together.The objective here is to evaluate the performance of the system by Markov chain models.We focus on Work-In-Process（WIP） and lost rate of the system.In general it is hard to obtain an exact analytical result of the system.Thus some approximation methods are proposed here.A simple situation is considered and formulated as a Markov chain process.Then we derive the steady-state probability of the system for two and three machines case,and obtain the WIP and the lost rate.The formulations proposed show the connection of control cards and performance measures.The method can extended to the case of multiple machines. We also present the results of a simulation study that tests the performance of our approach.

Glaucoma and visual pathway degeneration:Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide,which leads to a progressive loss of vision.Glaucoma can be classified into two types:primary open-angle glaucoma and primary closed-angle glaucoma.Primary open-angle glaucoma can be caused by the blockage of the trabecular meshwork,and this results in elevation of the intraocular pressure(IOP),leading to retinal ganglion cell(RGC)death.However,many glaucoma patients have normal IOP;this is known as normal-tension glaucoma.Nevertheless,excitotoxic damage and oxidative stress can also lead to RGC damage in normal-tension glaucoma(Almasieh et al.,2012).Glaucomatous genes such as TIGR,OPTN,and CYP1B1 have been suggested to contribute to the pathogenesis of glaucoma.However,some glaucomatous patients may remain asymptomatic in the early,moderate,and late stages.Another type of glaucoma is primary closed-angle glaucoma.In this clinical condition,a relative pupillary block is contributed by the iris obstructing aqueous outflow.The patients may suffer from corneal swelling,headache,nausea,and blurred vision during the acute phase.

String kernels are popular tools for analyzing protein sequence data and they have been successfully applied to many computational biology problems.The traditional string kernels assume that different substrings are independent.However,substrings can be highly correlated due to their substructure relationship or common physico-chemical properties.This paper proposes two kinds of weighted spectrum kernels:The correlation spectrum kernel and the AA spectrum kernel.We evaluate their performances by predicting glycan-binding proteins of 12 glycans.The results show that the correlation spectrum kernel and the AA spectrum kernel perform significantly better than the spectrum kernel for nearly all the 12 glycans.By comparing the predictive power of AA spectrum kernels constructed by different physico-chemical properties,the authors can also identify the physicochemical properties which contributes the most to the glycan-protein binding.The results indicate that physico-chemical properties of amino acids in proteins play an important role in the mechanism of glycan-protein binding.
