Effect of voltage-gated sodium channels blockers on motility and viability of human spermin vitro

Objective:To test the effect of voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) blockers on the motility and viability of human spermin-vitro and to evaluate the tested compounds as potential contact ***: Sperm samples were obtained from healthy non-smoking volunteers of age 25-30 years who had not taken any drug 3 months before and during the course of the study. The effect of VGSCs blockers evaluated from two pharmacological classes including antiarrhythmic (amiodarone, procainamide and disopyramide) and antiepileptic (carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, and lamotrigine) drugs. They were tested on thein-vitro motility and viability of human sperm using Computer Assisted Semen ***:All tested drugs except oxcarbazepine showed dose dependent inhibition of total motility with significant reduction (P<0.05) at the maximum concentration of 200 μM when compared with the control. The concentrations of drugs that reduced total sperm motility to 50% of control (half maximal inhibitory concentration) were 2.76, 14.16 and 20.29 μM for phenytoin, lamotrigine and carbamazepine, respectively;and 2.53, 5.32 and 0.37 μM for amiodarone, procainamide and disopyramide, respectively. The anti-motility effects were reversible to various degrees. There was statistically insignificant difference in the inhibition of sperm viability among amiodarone, procainamide and disopyramide. Phenytoin demonstrated the most potent spermicidal ***:VGSCs blockers have significant adverse effects onin-vitro motility of human spermatozoa. Soin-vivo studies are required to determine their potential toxicological effects on human semen quality, which is an important factor regarding fertility. Moreover, these drugs have the potential to be developed into contact spermicidal.

We evaluated bismuth doped cerium oxide catalysts for the continuous synthesis of dimethyl carbonate(DMC)from methanol and carbon dioxide in the absence of a dehydrating ***_(x)Ce_(1-x)O_(δ)nanocomposites of various compositions(x=0.06-0.24)were coated on a ceramic honeycomb and their structural and catalytic properties were *** incorporation of Bi species into the CeO_(2) lattice facilitated controlling of the surface population of oxygen vacancies,which is shown to play a crucial role in the mechanism of this reaction and is an important parameter for the design of ceria-based *** DMC production rate of the Bi_(x)Ce_(1-x)O_(δ) catalysts was found to be strongly enhanced with increasing Ov *** concentration of oxygen vacancies exhibited a maximum for Bi_(0.12)Ce_(0.88)O_(δ),which afforded the highest DMC production ***-term tests showed stable activity and selectivity of this catalyst over 45 h on-stream at 140°C and a gas-hourly space velocity of 2,880 mL·g_(cat)^(-1)·h^(-1).In-situ modulation excitation diffuse reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and first-principle calculations indicate that the DMC synthesis occurs through reaction of a bidentate carbonate intermediate with the activated methoxy(-OCH_(3))*** activation of C0_(2) to form the bidentate carbonate intermediate on the oxygen vacancy sites is identified as highest energy barrier in the reaction pathway and thus is likely the rate-determining step.

Optimization of moderator assembly for neutron flux measurement:experimental and theoretical approaches

A moderator of paraffin wax assembly has been demonstrated where its thickness can be optimized to thermalize fast neutrons. The assembly is used for measuring fast neutron flux of a neutron probe at different neutron energies, using BF03(U10and 200) and3He(U0.500)neutron detectors. The paraffin wax thickness was optimized at 6 cm for the neutron probe which contains an Am–Be neutron source. The experimental data are compared with Monte Carlo simulation results using MCNP5 version 1.4. Neutron flux comparison and neutron activation techniques are used for measuring neutron flux of the neutron probe to validate the optimum paraffin moderator thickness in the assembly. The neutron fluxes are measured at(1.17 ± 0.09) 9 105 and(1.19 ± 0.1) 9 105n/s, being in agreement with the simulated values. The moderator assembly can easily be utilized for essential requirements of neutron flux measurements.

BACKGROUND Acute epiploic appendagitis of the appendix (AEAA) is a rare self-limiting inflammatory disorder of the epiploic appendages (EA) close to the vermiform appendix, which often times mimicking the presentation of acute appendicitis (AA). To date, very few cases of AEAA have been reported. We report a case of a 52-year old man with the clinical suspicion of AA, but post-operative specimen examination confirmed AEAA as the final diagnosis. CASE SUMMARY A 52-year-old morbidly obese man presented to the emergency department with a 1-d history of the right lower quadrant (RLQ) abdominal pain. Physical examination revealed localized RLQ tenderness mimicking AA. The computed tomography abdomen was inconclusive, and a decision was made to perform laparoscopic appendectomy (LA). During the LA, an infarcted epiploic appendage at the tip of appendix and adherent to the abdominal wall was found, which was entirely excised. Final pathology showed congested and hemorrhagic epiploic appendage without any accompanied acute inflammatory changes in the wall of the appendix. Postoperative course was uneventful and he was doing well at seven months follow-up. CONCLUSION The possibility of AEAA should be considered in patients clinically suspected of having AA. Surgery is considered for those refractory to conservative management, with inconclusive diagnosis or develop complications at presentation.

Wind turbines are installed offshore with the assistance of a floating platform to help meet the world’s increasing energy ***,the incident wind and extra incident wave disturbances have an impact on the performance and operation of the floating offshore wind turbine(FOWT)in comparison to bottom-fixed wind *** this paper,model predictive control(MPC)is utilized to overcome the limitation caused by platform *** to the ease of control synthesis,the MPC is developed using a simplified model instead of high fidelity simulation *** performance of the controller is verified in the presence of realistic wind and wave *** study demonstrates the effectiveness of MPC in reducing platform motions and rotor/generator speed regulation of FOWTs.

We determine the behavior of track etch rate VT along the tracks in CR-39 detectors exposed to fission fragments from ^252Cf source. CR-39 detectors are etched at 70℃ in different concentrations of Na2COa-mixed 6M NaOH solutions for different etching time intervals of 5-10min starting from 15 min up to 210min. Two values of track etch rate are determined along the fission fragment trajectories. The variation in VT is correlated with the energy loss rate of the fission fragment in the detector material.

Human object interaction(HOI)recognition plays an important role in the designing of surveillance and monitoring systems for healthcare,sports,education,and public *** involves localizing the human and object targets and then identifying the interactions between ***,it is a challenging task that highly depends on the extraction of robust and distinctive features from the targets and the use of fast and efficient ***,the proposed system offers an automated body-parts-based solution for HOI *** system uses RGB(red,green,blue)images as input and segments the desired parts of the images through a segmentation technique based on the watershed ***,a convex hullbased approach for extracting key body parts has also been *** identifying the key body parts,two types of features are ***,the entire feature vector is reduced using a dimensionality reduction technique called t-SNE(t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding).Finally,a multinomial logistic regression classifier is utilized for identifying class labels.A large publicly available dataset,MPII(Max Planck Institute Informatics)Human Pose,has been used for system *** results prove the validity of the proposed system as it achieved 87.5%class recognition accuracy.

Congestion control is one of the main obstacles in cyberspace *** in internet traffic may cause several problems;such as high packet hold-up,high packet dropping,and low packet *** the course of data transmission for various applications in the Internet of things,such problems are usually generated relative to the *** tackle such problems,this paper presents an analytical model using an optimized Random Early Detection(RED)algorithm-based approach for internet traffic *** validity of the proposed model is checked through extensive simulation-based *** analysis is observed for different functions on internet *** performance metrics are taken into consideration,namely,the possibility of packet loss,throughput,mean queue length and mean queue *** sets of experiments are observed with varying simulation *** experiments are thoroughly analyzed and the best packet dropping operation with minimum packet loss is identified using the proposed model.

Paracetamol toxicity induced a significant rise in AST （aspartate transaminase）, ALT （alanine transaminase）, ALP （alkhaline phisphatase）, total bilirubin, total cholesterol, Triglycerides. Administration of 150 mg/kg b.w of synergistic ethanolic extracts of Feronia limonia L., Citrullus colocynthis L., and Tribulus terrestris L. effectively reduced these pathological damages caused by paracetamol intoxication. In addition to serum parameters treatment of 150 rng/kg b.w of synergistic ethanolic extract of Feronia limonia L., Citrullus colocynthis L. and Tribulus terrestris L. also promote the body weight in albino rats. Histopathological changes of the liver samples were compared with the normal control. From our results, we may infer that the mode of action of synergistic 90% ethanolic extracts of Feronia limonia L., Citrullus colocynthis L., and Tribulus terrestris L. （150 mg/kg b.w） in affording the in vivo hepatoprotective activity against paracetamol may be due to the cell membrane stabilization, hepatic cell regeneration and activation of antioxidative enzymes such as glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase.
