Dissipation of chlorpyrifos, pendimethalin, and thiophanate-methyl pesticides in compost based-versus peat-moss based-biomixture of biobeds

Biobed is a smart bioremediation system used to treat point-source pesticide contamination.Biomixture is the main component of biobeds,and pesticide dissipation is affected by its composition.This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of compost-based(C)versus peat-moss-based(P)biomixtures of biobeds on tested pesticide dissipation.Three concentrations(25,50,and 75 mg/kg)of chlorpyrifos,pendimethalin,and thiophanate methyl were added separately and as a mix to both biomixtures C and P.Our data showed the effect of biomixture type on the dissipation of the tested pesticides.For chlorpyrifos,its dissipation rate in biomixture P was more rapid than that in biomixture C.This result was confirmed by the mineralization kinetic experiment,since 25%of the initial ^(14)C-chlorpyrifos concentration accumulated in the form ^(14)CO_(2) in biomixture P compared to only 14%in biomixture C.In addition,the chlorpyrifos dissipation rate was influenced by the initial concentration when applied individually in biomixture P.In contrast,biomixture C was more effective at pendimethalin dissipation than biomixture P,since>76%of pendimethalin was dissipated in biomixture C versus 67%in biomixture P at the same incubation time.For thiophanate-methyl,the abilities of both biomixtures C and P were similar and less efficient than those of the other tested pesticides.The addition of the three tested pesticides to biomixture C only had a positive effect on both chlorpyrifos and thiophanate-methyl dissipation,while pendimethalin dissipation was similar when applied separately or as a mix.microbial activity was stimulated by the addition of separately or mixed pesticides to biomixtures C and P as measured by dehydrogenase activity.

Preliminary Palynostratigraphic Data on the middle Albian-Lower Cenomanian of the Tarfaya Basin, Southwest morocco

The Tarfaya-Laayoune-Boujdour basin is of great interest to oil exploration;on this aspect, there has been exploration by the moroccan National Office of hydrocarbons and mining, which has shown indices of oil and/or gas recorded in most wells drilled in the moroccan Atlantic margin. FD-1 well, object of this study, is one of these wells located in the offshore Tarfaya-Laayoune-Boujdour basin. A palynological examination of the processed samples revealed the existence of organic palynomorphs, well conserved and rich in dinoflagellate cysts. The latter are composed of worldwide marker taxa of high stratigraphic resolutions. Thus, the middle upper Albian (3408 - 3408.5 m) is determined by the presence of Cribroperidinium tensiftense, Tehamadinium coummia, Spiniferella cornuta, Chichaouadinium vestitum, Dinopterygium alatum and Litosphaeridium arundum. The upper Albian (3406.5 - 3408 m) is characterized by the FOs of marker taxa: Cyclonephelium chabaca, Cribroperidinium auctificum and Chichaouadinium vestitum. Lastly, the upper Albian-lower Cenomanian transition is defined between 3404 m and 3406.50 m, as suggested by the FOs of Chichaouadinium boydii, Dinopterygium tuberculatum, Sepispinula ancorifera, Litosphaeridium conispinum, Prolixosphaeridium conulum and Xenascus ceratioides.

Efficient Computer Aided Diagnosis System for hepatic Tumors Using Computed Tomography Scans

One of the leading causes of mortality worldwide is liver cancer.The earlier the detection of hepatic tumors,the lower the mortality rate.This paper introduces a computer-aided diagnosis system to extract hepatic tumors from computed tomography scans and classify them into malignant or benign tumors.Segmenting hepatic tumors from computed tomography scans is considered a challenging task due to the fuzziness in the liver pixel range,intensity values overlap between the liver and neighboring organs,high noise from computed tomography scanner,and large variance in tumors shapes.The proposed method consists of three main stages;liver segmentation using Fast Generalized Fuzzy C-means,tumor segmentation using dynamic thresholding,and the tumor’s classification into malignant/benign using support vector machines classifier.The performance of the proposed system was evaluated using three liver benchmark datasets,which are mICCAI-Sliver07,LiTS17,and 3Dircadb.The proposed computer adided diagnosis system achieved an average accuracy of 96.75%,sensetivity of 96.38%,specificity of 95.20%and Dice similarity coefficient of 95.13%.

Understanding the role of these factors will help in discovering the mystery of liver carcinogenesis on top of chronic hCV infection. moreover, use of the studied molecular factors will provide the hepatologists with tailored diagnostic promising biomarkers and flatten the way for establishment of emerging molecular treatment based on exploring the molecular subscription of this aggressive liver cancer.

male Breast Cancer:10-Year Experience at mansoura University hospital in Egypt

Objective male breast cancer(mBC) is a rare disease representing less than 1%of all malignancies.The objective of the study is to report clinicopathological characteristics,treatment patterns,and outcomes of mBC in mansoura University hospital,Egypt. methods This retrospective study focused on male breast cancer patients during 10 years(2000-2009).The studied variables were data regarding general characteristics of patients,treatment modalities and survival. Results The series included 37 patients(0.8%of all breast cancer).The median age was 57.7 years(range:26-86 years).The main clinical complaint was a mass beneath the areola in 94.5%of the cases.most patients had a locally advanced disease.94.5%of tumors were invasive duct carcinomas.The treatment was essentially surgery in 91.8%,followed by adjuvant radiotherapy(in 89.2%), hormonal therapy(in 56.7%) and chemotherapy(in 91.8%).Follow-up period ranged from 6-115 months.Local recurrence occurred in 4 cases and metastasis in 11 cases.The 2-year and 5-year overall survival(OS) rates were 81.6%and 60.5%,respectively.The 2-year and 5-year disease-free survival(DFS) rates were 68.4%,and 52.6%,respectively.OS was not significantly affected by any of the studied parameters.Factors influencing DFS were:T stage(P=0.05),positive lymph nodes(P=0.043),metastasis(P=0.004),and chemotherapy (P=0.046). Conclusions mBC is a rare disease and often diagnosed at a locally advanced stage.The management of male and female breast carcinoma is identical.Future research for better understanding of this disease is needed to improve the management and prognosis of male breast cancer patients.

Improving Crude Oil Flow Using Graphene Flakes under an Applied Electric Field

Graphene flakes(GF)have been prepared and assessed as a material for improving flow in oil pipelines under the effect of an electric field.In particular,different amounts of GFs have been considered in order to determine the optimal flow conditions.The GFs were prepared from graphite foam,derived from the dehydration of sugar with a particle size of 500-600μm,which was dispersed in ethanol and exfoliated in a ball mill under a shear force.After 15 h of exfoliation,sonication,and subsequent high-speed centrifugation at 3000 rpm,irregular-shaped GFs of 50-140 nm were produced and characterized using scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffractometry,atomic force microscopy,and Raman spectroscopy.The prepared graphene sheets have been found to display excellent morphology and good graphitic structure.Experiments on flow improvement were conducted using the central composite rotatable design method for three parameters:stimulation time(15,30,45,and 60 s),applied voltage(150,170,200,and 220 V),and concentration of the GFs(0,100,200,and 400 mg/L).The optimal conditions for improved crude oil flow were then determined using the STATISTICA and WinQSB software packages.The results have confirmed the effectiveness of the use of the prepared GFs as a flow improver for crude oil,where the flow improvement is essentially a result of a reduction in viscosity and suppression of friction in the crude oil system.

Impact of the socioeconomic status on the severity and outcome of community-acquired pneumonia among Egyptian children: a cohort study

Background:Community-acquired pneumonia(CAP)is one of the five leading causes of death among children in developing countries,accounting for approximately three million deaths per year.Identification of the modifiable risk factors of CAP may help to reduce the burden of this disease.In this study,the impact of the socioeconomic status(SES)on the severity and outcome of CAP among Egyptian children was studied.methods:This was a prospective longitudinal cohort study which included 1,470 children diagnosed with CAP,aged two to 15 years(median age 5.4 years).The diagnosis of CAP was based on clinical and radiological findings.A structured questionnaire and the patients’medical records were used for the data collection.The subjects were divided into two groups:mild and severe CAP.Social and demographic variables were compared,and a multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed.Results:The multivariate analysis showed that a low maternal education level(OR:3.8;95%CI:2.12-6.70;P=.0001),unavailability of adequate medical care(OR:3.1;95%CI:1.99-4.88;P=.0001),a low family income(OR:2.2;95%CI:0.99-4.78;P=.047),and parents’smoking habits(OR:2.0;95%CI:1.15-3.55;P=.014)were significant independent predictive risk factors for severe CAP among Egyptian children.Conclusion:Public health measures against these socio-demographic risk factors should be identified as priorities in order to help reduce the disease burden of deaths from severe CAP among Egyptian children.

An anti-synchronization scheme is proposed to achieve the anti-synchronization behavior between chaotic systems with fully unknown parameters.A sliding surface and an adaptive sliding mode controller are designed to gain the anti-synchronization.The stability of the error dynamics is proven theoretically using the Lyapunov stability theory.Finally numerical results are presented to justify the theoretical analysis.

Glassy behaviour of random field Ising spins on Bethe lattice in external magnetic field

The thermodynamics and the phase diagram of random field Ising model （RFIm） on Bethe lattice are studied by using a replica trick. This lattice is placed in an external magnetic field （B）. A Gaussian distribution of random field （hi） with zero mean and variance （hi2 = h2RF is considered. The free-energy （F）, the magnetization （m） and the order parameter （q） are investigated for several values of coordination number （z）. The phase diagram shows several interesting behaviours and presents tricritical point at critical temperature Tc = J/k and when hRF = 0 for finite z. The free-energy （F） values increase as T increases for different intensities of random field （hRE） and finite z. The internal energy （U） has a similar behaviour to that obtained from the monte Carlo simulations. The ground state of magnetization decreases as the intensity of random field hRF increases, The ferromagnetic （Fm） paramagnetic （Pm） phase boundary is clearly observed only when z →∞. While Fm Pm-spin glass （SG） phase boundaries are present for finite z. The magnetic susceptibility （X） shows a sharp cusp at Tc in a small random field for finite z and rounded different peaks on increasing hRF.

Glassy phase and thermodynamics for random field Ising model on spherical lattice in magnetic field

Phase diagram and thermodynamic parameters of the random field Ising model （RFIm） on spherical lattice are studied by using mean field theory. This lattice is placed in an external magnetic field （B）. The random field （hi） is assumed to be Gaussian distributed with zero mean and a variance （hi2） = hRF2. The free energy （F）, the magnetization （m） and the order parameter （q） are calculated. The ferromagnetic （Fm） spin-glass （SG） phase transition is clearly observed. The critical temperature （Tc） is computed under a critical intensity of random field hRF = V/2/πJ. The phase transition from Fm to paramagnetic （Pm） occurs at TC = J/k in the absence of magnetic field. The critical temperature decreases as hRF increases in the phase boundary of Fm-to-SG. The magnetic susceptibility （X） shows a sharp cusp at TC and the specific heat （C） has a singularity in small random field. The internal energy （U） has a similar behaviour to that obtained from the monte Carlo simulation.
