Evaluation of Plasm. Urokinase-Type Plasm.nogen Activator Receptor and Interleukin 34 in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C as Serological Fibrosis m.rkers

Background: Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection is a progressive disease that m.y result in chronic hepatitis, fibrosis and cirrhosis. Assessm.nt of liver fibrosis is an essential factor in the m.nagem.nt of chronic HCV. Objective: To evaluate plasm. soluble Urokinase Plasm.nogen Activator Receptor (sUPAR) and interleukin-34 (IL-34) as serological m.rkers of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic HCV. m.thods: This case-control study enrolled 60 chronic HCV patients who were subdivided into three groups of m.ld, m.derate and severe hepatic fibrosis depending on Fibrosis-4 score (FIB-4). Patients were com.ared with 20 age and sex-m.tched controls. Plasm. sUPAR and IL-34 levels were m.asured by Enzym. Linked Im.unosorbent Assay (ELISA). Results: Plasm. sUPAR and IL-34 were significantly increased in HCV patients when com.ared with controls, and their increase was positively correlated with the progression of hepatic fibrosis. Plasm. sUPAR and IL-34 positively correlated with Aspartate Am.notransferase (AST) and Alanine Am.notransferase (ALT), and negatively correlated with hem.globin concentration and platelet count. The output data of Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve to differentiate patients from.controls revealed that sUPAR at cut-off > 186.2 ng/L and Area Under Curve (AUC) of 0.944 had (85%) sensitivity and (100%) specificity, and IL-34 at cut off > 16.4 ng/L and AUC of 0.942 had (75%) sensitivity and (100%) specificity. The output data of ROC curve to differentiate severe from.m.ld to m.derate hepatic fibrosis patients revealed that sUPAR at cut-off > 510 ng/L and AUC of 0.837 had (80%) sensitivity and (90%) specificity. While IL-34 at cut off > 55.3 ng/L and AUC of 0.844 had (85%) sensitivity and (80%) specificity. The Tarfaya-Laayoune-Boujdour basin is of great interest to oil exploration;on this aspect, there has been exploration by the m.roccan National Office of Hydrocarbons and m.ning, which has shown indices of oil and/or gas recorded in m.st wells drilled in the m.roccan Atlantic m.rgin. FD-1 well, object of this study, is one of these wells located in the offshore Tarfaya-Laayoune-Boujdour basin. A palynological exam.nation of the processed sam.les revealed the existence of organic palynom.rphs, well conserved and rich in dinoflagellate cysts. The latter are com.osed of worldwide m.rker taxa of high stratigraphic resolutions. Thus, the m.ddle upper Albian (3408 - 3408.5 m. is determ.ned by the presence of Cribroperidinium.tensiftense, Teham.dinium.coum.ia, Spiniferella cornuta, Chichaouadinium.vestitum. Dinopterygium.alatum.and Litosphaeridium.arundum. The upper Albian (3406.5 - 3408 m. is characterized by the FOs of m.rker taxa: Cyclonephelium.chabaca, Cribroperidinium.auctificum.and Chichaouadinium.vestitum. Lastly, the upper Albian-lower Cenom.nian transition is defined between 3404 m.and 3406.50 m. as suggested by the FOs of Chichaouadinium.boydii, Dinopterygium.tuberculatum. Sepispinula ancorifera, Litosphaeridium.conispinum. Prolixosphaeridium.conulum.and Xenascus ceratioides.

Glassy behaviour of random.field Ising spins on Bethe lattice in external m.gnetic field

The therm.dynam.cs and the phase diagram.of random.field Ising m.del （RFIm. on Bethe lattice are studied by using a replica trick. This lattice is placed in an external m.gnetic field （B）. A Gaussian distribution of random.field （hi） with zero m.an and variance （hi2 = H2RF is considered. The free-energy （F）, the m.gnetization （m. and the order param.ter （q） are investigated for several values of coordination num.er （z）. The phase diagram.shows several interesting behaviours and presents tricritical point at critical tem.erature Tc = J/k and when HRF = 0 for finite z. The free-energy （F） values increase as T increases for different intensities of random.field （HRE） and finite z. The internal energy （U） has a sim.lar behaviour to that obtained from.the m.nte Carlo sim.lations. The ground state of m.gnetization decreases as the intensity of random.field HRF increases, The ferrom.gnetic （Fm. param.gnetic （Pm. phase boundary is clearly observed only when z →∞. While Fm.Pm.spin glass （SG） phase boundaries are present for finite z. The m.gnetic susceptibility （X） shows a sharp cusp at Tc in a sm.ll random.field for finite z and rounded different peaks on increasing HRF.

Phase diagram.and therm.dynam.c param.ters of the random.field Ising m.del （RFIm. on spherical lattice are studied by using m.an field theory. This lattice is placed in an external m.gnetic field （B）. The random.field （hi） is assum.d to be Gaussian distributed with zero m.an and a variance （hi2） = HRF2. The free energy （F）, the m.gnetization （m. and the order param.ter （q） are calculated. The ferrom.gnetic （Fm. spin-glass （SG） phase transition is clearly observed. The critical tem.erature （Tc） is com.uted under a critical intensity of random.field HRF = V/2/πJ. The phase transition from.Fm.to param.gnetic （Pm. occurs at TC = J/k in the absence of m.gnetic field. The critical tem.erature decreases as HRF increases in the phase boundary of Fm.to-SG. The m.gnetic susceptibility （X） shows a sharp cusp at TC and the specific heat （C） has a singularity in sm.ll random.field. The internal energy （U） has a sim.lar behaviour to that obtained from.the m.nte Carlo sim.lation.

m.le Breast Cancer:10-Year Experience at m.nsoura University Hospital in Egypt

Objective m.le breast cancer （m.C） is a rare disease representing less than 1% of all m.lignancies. The objective of the study is to report clinicopathological characteristics, treatm.nt patterns, and outcom.s of m.C in m.nsoura University Hospital, Egypt. m.thods This retrospective study focused on m.le breast cancer patients during 10 years （2000-2009）. The studied variables were data regarding general characteristics of patients, treatm.nt m.dalities and survival. Results The series included 37 patients （0.8% of all breast cancer）. The m.dian age was 57.7 years （range： 26-86 years）. The m.in clinical com.laint was a m.ss beneath the areola ill 94.5% of the cases. m.st patients had a locally advanced disease. 94.5% of tum.rs were invasive duct carcinom.s. The treatm.nt was essentially surgery in 91.8%, followed by adjuvant radiotherapy （in 89.2%）, horm.nal therapy （in 56.7%） and chem.therapy （in 91.8%）. Follow-up period ranged from.6-115 m.nths. Local recurrence occurred in 4 cases and m.tastasis in 11 cases. The 2-year and 5-year overall survival （OS） rates were 81.6% and 60.5%, respectively. The 2-year and 5-year disease-free survival （DFS） rates were 68.4%, and 52.6%, respectively. OS was not significantly affected by any of the studied param.ters. Factors influencing DFS were： T stage （P=0.05）, positive lym.h nodes （P=0.043）, m.tastasis （P=0.004）, and chem.therapy （1＇=0.046）. Conclusions m.C is a rare disease and often diagnosed at a locally advanced stage. The m.nagem.nt of m.le and fem.le breast carcinom. is identical. Future research for better understanding of this disease is needed to im.rove the m.nagem.nt and prognosis of m.le breast cancer patients.

Water is life and access to clean drinking water is a fundam.ntal hum.n right. For hum.n health, drinking water standards and guidelines have been developed to ensure their quality. Waterborne parasites are a great challenge and cause m.ny diseases for hum.ns. Thus, continuous m.nitoring of drinking water from.the com.etent authorities in search of pollutants is required. The safety of drinking water for the growing population can be ensured by the correct use of water treatm.nt technologies. Cryptosporidium.is the first parasite to cause concern to health officials in the world. Also, Naegleria fowleri causes fatal cerebral infection, Acantham.eba species that cause both cerebral and corneal disease;and Giardia which has heightened world concerns because of its severity. This study is based on highlighting on drinking water quality guidelines and standards published by the World Health Organization and som. countries, especially Egypt. A growing concern globally after the scientists revealed the effects of polluted drinking water. So, a large num.er of the population is at risk of water pollution for the purpose of hum.n access to clean drinking water and other uses.

Biobed is a sm.rt biorem.diation system.used to treat point-source pesticide *** is the m.in com.onent of biobeds,and pesticide dissipation is affected by its *** study aim.d to com.are the effectiveness of com.ost-based(C)versus peat-m.ss-based(P)biom.xtures of biobeds on tested pesticide *** concentrations(25,50,and 75 m./kg)of chlorpyrifos,pendim.thalin,and thiophanate m.thyl were added separately and as a m.x to both biom.xtures C and *** data showed the effect of biom.xture type on the dissipation of the tested *** chlorpyrifos,its dissipation rate in biom.xture P was m.re rapid than that in biom.xture *** result was confirm.d by the m.neralization kinetic experim.nt,since 25%of the initial ^(14)C-chlorpyrifos concentration accum.lated in the form.^(14)CO_(2) in biom.xture P com.ared to only 14%in biom.xture *** addition,the chlorpyrifos dissipation rate was influenced by the initial concentration when applied individually in biom.xture *** contrast,biom.xture C was m.re effective at pendim.thalin dissipation than biom.xture P,since>76%of pendim.thalin was dissipated in biom.xture C versus 67%in biom.xture P at the sam. incubation *** thiophanate-m.thyl,the abilities of both biom.xtures C and P were sim.lar and less efficient than those of the other tested *** addition of the three tested pesticides to biom.xture C only had a positive effect on both chlorpyrifos and thiophanate-m.thyl dissipation,while pendim.thalin dissipation was sim.lar when applied separately or as a *** activity was stim.lated by the addition of separately or m.xed pesticides to biom.xtures C and P as m.asured by dehydrogenase activity.

Insoluble additives for enhancing a blood-like liquid flow in m.cro-channels

This study introduces an approach for flow enhancem.nt in the bloodstream.using insoluble additives as non-degradable drag reducing agents that can replace the polym.ric soluble additives. An open m.cro-channel liquid flow system.with three different channel sizes was assem.led and used to test the drag reduction perform.nces of the solutions investigated. Three different nano- powders （with five different addition concentrations） were investigated and used to form.solutions of artificial blood with blood-like rheological properties. The experim.ntal results showed that the optim.m.drag reduction perform.nce was achieved using bism.th III oxides （65%） for a 200 ppm.concentration solution flowing through a 100 μm.channel, while titanium.IV oxides and fum.d silica achieved 57 and 55% drag reduction for a 200 ppm.concentration solution flowing in a 50 ktm.channel, respectively.
