Ba.kground: Lumba. burst fra.tures a.e common spina. injuries tha. ca.se severe insta.ility with kyphotic deformities a.d neurologica. complica.ions requiring surgica. decompression a.d reconstruction with spina. instrumenta.ion for unsta.le burst fra.ture, but there is controversy a.out the optima. surgica. a.proa.h a.terior, posterior or combined a.proa.h. Objectives: To a.sess the effica.y & sa.ety of a.terola.era. a.proa.h in decompression a.d reconstruction with spina. instrumenta.ion for lumba. burst fra.tures. Subjects & Methods: a.retrospective study including 16 pa.ients, 10 ma.es a.d 6 fema.es with lumba. burst fra.tures a.d a.terior compression trea.ed opera.ively by a.terola.era. a.proa.h for corpectomy a.d single level fusion by using expa.da.le ca.e or mesh ca.e loa.ed with bone gra.t a.d pla. with screws. The clinica. a.d ra.iologica. follow up a.ter discha.ge from the hospita. ra.ged from 12 to 24 months. Results: a.l pa.ients improved rega.ding the Fra.kel score more tha. one gra.e a.ter surgery, except 2 ca.es of gra.e a.didn’t improve. Mea. preopera.ive visua. a.a.ogue sca.e wa. 7.4 improving to 0.9 postopera.ively. The mea. Loca. kyphosis improved from 8.8° before surgery to -1° a.ter surgery. Conclusions: a.terola.era. a.proa.h is fea.ible, effective, a.d sa.e a.proa.h for unsta.le lumba. burst fra.tures. a.gula. deformity is successfully corrected when the a.terior a.proa.h is used.

Ba.kground: Os odontoideum is a.sepa.a.e odontoid process from the body of the a.is. It ca. lea. to insta.ility of the a.la.toa.ia. joint a.d pla.es the spina. cord a. significa.t risk. Methods: Eight ca.es of os odontoideum were symptoma.ic a. time of presenta.ion, submitted for genera. a.d neurologica. exa.ina.ion, a.d investiga.ed with different ra.iologica. moda.ities a.d ma.a.ed with surgica. fixa.ion a.d sta.iliza.ion. These pa.ients followed for one yea. postopera.ively. Results: The study includes six ma.e pa.ients a.d two fema.e pa.ients with media. a.e 18.7 yea.s. a.l pa.ients presented with myelopa.hy a.d showed clinica. evidence of a.la.toa.ia. insta.ility. They submitted for complete ra.iologica. investiga.ions (pla.n x ra., CT sca. a.d MRI) cra.iocervica. junction. They underwent cervica. surgica. sta.iliza.ion, two ca.es by a.la.toa.ia. a.throdesis with wiring, two a.la.toa.ia. fixa.ion by la.era. ma.s screw one of them with tra.sora. odontoiectomy, two a.la.toa.ia. fixa.ions by a.Rosen’s Hooks, a.d two ca.es cra.iocervica. fixa.ion by Tie fra.e. Dea.h postopera.ively recorded in two pa.ients. Follow-up one yea. revea.ed resolution of symptoms in two pa.ients a.d four pa.ients rema.ned sta.iona.y but without deteriora.ion. Conclusion: Os odontoideum is a.ra.e but sometimes letha. a.norma.ity tha. requires ra.iologica. a.d clinica. judgement to ensure the best choice of ma.a.ement a.d optimum pa.ient’s ca.e.

Ba.kground: Pla.elet-rich pla.ma.ha. been extensively used in severa. clinica. settings. However, there still a.la.k of conclusive evidence concerning the benefits of pla.elet-rich pla.ma.in the field of wound hea.ing. We a.med to eva.ua.e the sa.ety a.d the effica.y of a.tologous pla.elet-rich pla.ma.in a.ute wound hea.ing. Methods: This prospective study enrolled forty a.ult pa.ients of both sexes a.d a.ed between 18 - 50 yea.s. a.l pa.ients in need for split-thickness skin gra.t were included in our study. The donor sites were ra.domly divided into two equa. ha.ves: the pla.elet-rich pla.ma.side, which wa. injected with recently a.tiva.ed pla.elet-rich pla.ma.a.d the control side, in which the conventiona. method of dressing wa. used. Mea.urement of the pla.elet count a.d tra.sforming growth fa.tor-B1 concentra.ion in ea.h pla.elet-rich pla.ma.prepa.a.ion a.d the whole blood wa. done for a.l pa.ients. Clinica. monitoring of the donor sites wa. done every 7 da.s for 3 weeks, rega.ding pa.n perception, epithelia.iza.ion surfa.e a.ea.a.d possible side effects of the pla.elet-rich pla.ma. Histopa.hologica. monitoring wa. done on the 7th postopera.ive da.. Results: The pla.elet count wa. increa.ed a.out 3.5 folds a.d tra.sforming growth fa.tor-B1 wa. increa.ed 2.4 folds in the pla.elet-rich pla.ma.compa.ed to the pa.ients’ blood. The pla.elet-rich pla.ma.side ha. significa.tly lower pa.n scores a. da. 7 (4.8 ± 0.18 vs 5.9 ± 0.07) a.d da. 14 (1.4 ± 0.11 vs 1.9 ± 0.09) postopera.ive (p = 0.002 a.d p = 0.004, respectively) a.d ha. significa.tly higher ra.e of epithelia.iza.ion a. da. 7 (9.8 ± 0.35 cm2 vs 7.5 ± 0.32 cm2) a.d da. 14 (38.4 ± 0.36 cm2 vs 36.9 ± 0.42 cm2) postopera.ive (p p = 0.039, respectively), while a. da. 21 postopera.ive, there wa. no significa.t difference between both sides. Bird fa.na.checklists a.e importa.t tools in ecology, biology, a.d conserva.ion pla.ning for scientists, sta.eholders, a.d decision-ma.ers. Despite its sma.l a.ea. the Ga.a.Strip (365 km2) ha. a.rela.ively la.ge va.iety of resident a.d migra.ory bird fa.na. Therefore, the current study a.med to provide a. upda.ed checklist of a.l bird fa.na.living in or inha.iting the Ga.a.Strip. Direct field observa.ions using binocula.s, continuous visits to zoos, pet stores a.d biology museums, discussion with bird hunters, follow-up of news a.d socia. networking sites, review of scientific publica.ions a.d photogra.hy were the ma.n tools to sa.isfy the purpose of the study. a. lea.t 250 bird species collected from different sources occur in the Ga.a.Strip a.d a.e included in the checklist. This list will not be sta.ic, but is inevita.ly subject to a.ditions a.d cha.ges in the fa.e of times. The current 250 bird species of the Ga.a.Strip represent 45.4% of the 551 species of birds living in Pa.estine. The bird species were found to belong to 21 orders a.d 61 fa.ilies. The Pa.seriformes (pa.serines) represented the la.gest order with 96 species of birds (38.4%), followed by the Cha.a.riiformes 54 (21.6%), the a.cipitriformes 18 (7.2%), a.seriformes 17 (6.8%) a.d Peleca.iformes 14 (5.6%), while the other orders represented the rema.ning percenta.e (20.4%). With rega.d to fa.ilies, the Scolopa.ida. represented the la.gest fa.ily with 22 species of birds (8.8%), followed by the a.a.ida. a.d a.cipitrida. 17 for ea.h (6.8%), the Muscica.ida. 16 (6.4%) a.d Cha.iidrida. a.d Fringillida. 11 for ea.h (4.4%), while the other fa.ilies represented the rema.ning percenta.e (62.4%). a.cording to the IUCN regiona. threa. ca.egories, 226 species (90.4%) were Lea.t Concern (LC), 12 (4.8%) were Nea. Threa.ened (NT), 6 (2.4%) were Vulnera.le (VU), 4 (1.6%) were Enda.gered (EN) a.d 2 (0.8%) were Critica.ly Enda.gered (CR). In conclusion, the study recommends a.susta.na.le control of bird h
