Surface-anchored metal-organic frameworks(surMOFs)integrate nanoporous supramolecular MOF materials directly into architectures for applications such as gas storage,chemical sensing,and energy ***-by-layer solution-phase deposition of the MOF-14 components(1,3,5-tris(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene and copper(II)dimers,respectively)produces a porous and conformal film on carboxylterminated self-assembled monolayers(SAMs).In this research,the formation of ultrathin(less than 25 nm)surMOF films on codeposited bicomponent SAMs and microcontact printed SAMs is investigated by atomic force microscopy,ellipsometry,infrared spectroscopy,and contact angle *** composed of methyl-terminated alkanethiols assembled on gold substrates inhibit surMOF formation,whereas carboxyl-terminated alkanethiols promote MOF-14-based film *** tune the density of carboxyl groups that anchor the film,methyl-and carboxylterminated alkanethiols of varying concentrations are codeposited on *** systematic study demonstrates how surMOF film formation and morphology are impacted by these SAMs with mixed surface *** patterning methods for SAMs,such as microcontact printing(μCP),commonly have mixed chemical functionalities within certain regions of the *** gained regarding how mixed surface functionalities affect surMOF film formation are applied herein to optimize theμCP method to produce chemically patterned SAMs that selectively direct surMOF assembly to produce high-quality surMOF film features.

Approximately one fifth of the world's plants are at risk of *** these,a significant number exist as populations of few individuals,with limited distribution ranges and under enormous pressure due to habitat *** China,these most-at-risk species are described as 'plant species with extremely small populations'(PSESP).Implementing conservation action for such listed species is *** seeds is one of the main means of ex situ conservation for flowering *** storage could provide a simple and economical method for fern ex situ *** and spore germination in nature is a critical step in species regeneration and thus in situ *** what is known about the seed and spore biology(storage and germination) of at-risk species? we have used China's PSESP(the first group listing) as a case study to understand the gaps in knowledge on propagule biology of threatened plant *** found that whilst germination information is available for 28 species(23%of PSESP),storage characteristics are only known for 8%of PSESP(10 species).Moreover,we estimate that 60%of the listed species may require cryopreservation for long-term *** conclude that comparative biology studies are urgently needed on the world's most threatened taxa so that conservation action can progress beyond species listing.

Two-dimensional(2D)layered oxides have recently attracted wide attention owing to the strong coupling among charges,spins,lattice,and strain,which allows great flexibility and opportunities in structure designs as well as multifunctionality *** parallel,plasmonic hybrid nanostructures exhibit exotic localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR)providing a broad range of applications in nanophotonic devices and sensors.A hybrid material platform combining the unique multifunctional 2D layered oxides and plasmonic nanostructures brings optical tuning into the new *** this work,a novel self-assembled Bi2MoO6(BMO)2D layered oxide incorporated with plasmonic Au nanoinclusions has been demonstrated via one-step pulsed laser deposition(PLD)*** microstructural characterizations,including scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM),differential phase contrast imaging(DPC),and STEM tomography,have demonstrated the high epitaxial quality and particle-in-matrix morphology of the BMO-Au nanocomposite ***-STEM imaging clarifies the magnetic domain structures of BMO *** different BMO structures including layered supercell(LSC)and superlattices have been revealed which is attributed to the variable strain states throughout the BMO-Au *** to the combination of plasmonic Au and layered structure of BMO,the nanocomposite film exhibits a typical LSPR in visible wavelength region and strong anisotropy in terms of its optical and ferromagnetic *** study opens a new avenue for developing novel 2D layered complex oxides incorporated with plasmonic metal or semiconductor phases showing great potential for applications in multifunctional nanoelectronics devices.

Age calibrated deformation histories established by detailed mapping and dating of key magmatic time markers are correlated across all tectono-metamorphic provinces in the Damara Orogenic *** across structural belts result in an internally consistent deformation framework with evidence of stress field rotations with similar timing,and switches between different deformation *** principle compressive stress rotated clockwise ~180°in total during Kaoko Belt evolution,and^135° during Damara Belt *** most stages,stress field variation is progressive and can be attributed to events within the Damara Orogenic System,caused by changes in relative trajectories of the interacting Rio De La Plata,Congo,and Kalahari *** orogenesis occurred earliest and evolved from collision and obduction at ~590 Ma,involving E-w directed shortening,progressing through different transpressional states with ~45° rotation of the stress field to strike-slip shear under Nw-SE shortening at ~550-530 *** orogenesis evolved from collision at ~555-550 Ma with Nw-SE directed shortening in common with the Kaoko Belt,and subsequently evolved through ~90°rotation of the stress field to NE-Sw shortening at ~512-508 *** Kaoko and Damara orogenic fronts were operating at the same time,with all three cratons being coaxially convergent during the 550-530 Ma period;Rio De La Plata directed SE against the Congo Craton margin,and both together over-riding the Kalahari Craton margin also towards the *** stress field rotation was punctuated by rapid and significant switches at ~530-525 Ma,~508 Ma and ~505 *** three events included:(1)Culmination of main phase orogenesis in the Damara Belt,coinciding with maximum burial and peak metamorphism at 530-525 *** occurred at the same time as termination of transpression and initiation of transtensional reactivation of shear zones in the Kaoko *** compressive stress switched from Nw-
