As obesity continues to escalate worldwide,nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)has emerged as the most prevalent form of liver disease,with a reported global prevalence of 30.1%(1).The prevalence of NAFLD,which was around 25%in the 1990s,has been increasing year by year in recent years and has exceeded 35%in the past few years(1).The spectrum of disease includes nonalcoholic fatty liver(NAFL),characterized by macrovesicular hepatic steatosis that may be accompanied by mild inflammation,and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),which is additionally characterized by the presence of inflammation and cellular injury(2).

The angular distributions and energy spectra of 11B, 10B, and 9Be fragments of 12C in the angular range from 1.0° to 7.5° at 100 MeV/u were obtained via 12C ＋ 12C scattering. Detailed comparisons are presented between the experimental data and the modified antisymmetrized molecular dynamics （AMD-FM）, binary intranuclear cascade model （BIC） and Liège intranuclear cascade model （INCL＋＋）. The experimental angular distributions and energy spectra are well reproduced by the AMD-FM calculations but fail to be reproduced by the physical models installed in the Geant4 program, including the BIC and INCL＋＋ models.

Chemoradiotherapy for a patient with a giant esophageal fistula

We describe our experience of treatment for a giant esophageal malignant fistula, which has not been reported previously. A 36-year-old woman who was diagnosed as having massive esophageal small cell carcinoma with metastases was treated with chemoradiotherapy. However, a giant esophagomediastinal fistula appeared due to shrinkage of the massive tumor, and all anti-cancer treatment was suspended. However, chemoradiotherapy was restarted at the request of the patient despite the presence of the fistula. After restarting treatment, the giant esophageal fistula was naturally closed despite intensive chemoradiotherapy, and the patient became able to eat and drink. Although the patient finally died, her QOL and prognosis seemed to be improved by the chemoradiotherapy. Anti-cancer treatment could be safely performed despite the presence of a giant fistula. The giant fistula closed while intensive chemotherapy was administered to the patient. Therefore, the presence of a fistula may not be a contraindication for curative chemoradiotherapy. Completion of treatment with proper management and maintenance of patients would be of benefit to patients with fistula.

We present the proton-total reaction cross sectionsσR by comparing the experimental data with the Glauber model calculation using four sets of nucleon-nucleon cross sections used in literature(free nucleon-nucleon cross sections(NNCS),phenomenological NNCS,Bruckner-type NNCS and Pauli NNCS)and different nuclear densities for symmetric and asymmetric *** light symmetric target nuclei,the experimentalσR data are well reproduced by the former three NNCS with the ground state density distributions of relativistic mean-field *** the other hand,for asymmetry heavier target nuclei,the calculations of theσR data depend significantly on the nuclear density distribution at large radius in the low energy *** experimentalσR of these nuclei are well reproduced by the empirical 3 pF density distribution and the in-medium *** neutron surface distributions are also discussed based on the 3 pF nuclear charge distributions.

This article investigates the separated flow around the bent-nose biconic, in which the second ordered TVD(Total Variation Diminishing) method is applied. The governing cqua-tion is a thin layer Navier-Stokes equation. The surface pressure distribution at the leeward side is a little higher in the vicinity of the symmetrical plane. This seems to be caused by the development of the vortex at the leeward side due to the separated flow. The location of a separation line and the size are in very good agreement with the experiment. Also the secondary separation is captured very clearly.

Major Outcomes through Recent ROSA/LSTF Experiments and Future Plans

Many experiments have been conducted on accidents and transients of pressurized water reactor (PWR) employing the rig of safety assessment/large-scale test facility (ROSA/LSTF). Recent research activities concerned with the OECD/NEA international joint projects included experimental investigation via the ROSA and ROSA-2 Projects, and counterpart testing with thermal-hydraulic integral test facilities under collaboration of the PKL-2, PKL-3, ATLAS, and ATLAS-2 Projects. Major results of the related integral effect tests (IETs) with the LSTF were reviewed to experimentally identify thermal-hydraulic phenomena involved, regarding the PWR accident sequences in accordance with the new regulatory requirements for the Japanese light-water nuclear power plants. Future separate effect test using the LSTF is planned to simulate loss of emergency core cooling system (ECCS) recirculation functions in a large-break loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA). Key results of the recent IETs utilizing the LSTF and future plans were presented relevant to multiple steam generator tube rupture accident with recovery operation, small-break LOCA with accident management measure on core exit temperature reliability, and small-break LOCA with thermal stratification under cold water injection from ECCS into cold legs. Also, main outcomes of the LSTF IETs were indicated for wide spectrum LOCA with core uncovery and anticipated transient without scram following small-break LOCA under totally failed high-pressure injection system.

Analysis of the Relationship between Image and Blood Examinations in an Artificial Intelligence System for the Molecular Diagnosis of Breast Cancer

Molecular subtype classification based on tumor genotype has recently been used for differential diagnosis of breast cancer. The shift from conventional tissue classification to molecular genetics-based classification is primarily because objective genetic information can ensure a biologically clear classification system and patient groups may be created for a given set of diagnoses and suitable treatments. Given the stressful nature of biopsy, radiomic studies are conducted to determine breast cancer subtypes using non-invasive imaging tests. Minimally invasive blood tests using microRNAs (miRNAs) contained in exosomes have been developed. We investigated the usefulness of radiomic features and miRNAs in distinguishing triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) from other cancer types. Fat suppression T2-weighted magnetic resonance images and miRNAs of 60 cases (9 TNBC and 51 others) were retrieved from the Cancer Genome Atlas Breast Invasive Carcinoma. Six radiomic features and six miRNAs were selected by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator. Linear discriminant analysis was employed to distinguish between TNBC and others. With miRNAs, TNBC and others were completely separated, whereas with radiomic features, TNBC overlapped with other types of breast cancer. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis results showed that the area under the curve of radiomic features and miRNAs was 0.85 and 1.0, respectively. miRNAs showed a higher discrimination performance than radiomic features. Although gene analysis is expensive and facilities for performing it are limited, miRNAs for blood tests may be useful in artificial intelligence systems for the molecular diagnosis of breast cancer.
