Europium oxyhydroxide crystals were synthesized by the flux method. The as-grown crystals were transparent and had a plate-like shape with natural flat surfaces. The powder XRD data were refined by assuming a monoclinic structure of the space group P21/m and lattice parameters of a=0.4346 nm, b=0.3744 nm, c=0.6107 nm, and β=108.62°. The magnetic susceptibility of the EuOOH crystals exhibited typical Van Vleck temperature-independent paramagnetism below 120 K. The calculated susceptibility, based on Van Vleck＇s theory, agreed with the experimental data to some extent, with the coupling constant λ=458±10 K. The experimental results were in close agreement with the results calculated using a modified formula with λ=505±2 K and a constant term C=4.6×10^-4 emu/（mol·Oe）.

In this paper, we review our researches on the topics of the structural health monitoring （SHM） with the fiber-optic distributed strain sensor. Highly-dense information on strains in a structure can be useful to identify some kind of existing damages or applied loads in implementation of SHM. The fiber-optic distributed sensors developed by the authors have been applied to the damage detection of a single-lap joint and load identification of a beam simply supported. We confirmed that the applicability of the distributed sensor to SHM could be improved as making the spatial resolution higher. In addition, we showed that the simulation technique considering both structural and optical effects seamlessly in strain measurement could be powerful tools to evaluate the performance of a sensing system and design it for SHM. Finally, the technique for simultaneous distributed strain and temperature measurement using the PANDA-fiber Bragg grating （FBG） is shown in this paper, because problems caused by the cross-sensitivity toward strain and temperature would be always inevitable in strain measurement for SHM.

Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)have abilities to mediate tissue protection through mechanisms of antiapoptosis,anti-oxidative stress and anti-fibrosis as well as tissue regeneration through mechanisms of cell proliferation,differentiation and *** effects by MSCs are mediated by a variety of factors,including growth factors,cytokines and extracellular vesicles(EVs).Among these factors,EVs,containing proteins,mRNA and microRNAs(miRNA),may carry their contents into distant tissues with high ***,the treatment with MSC-derived EVs may be promising as‘natural’drug delivery systems(DDS).Especially,the treatment of MSCderived EVs with the manipulation of specific miRNAs expression has been reported to be beneficial under a variety of diseases and tissue *** overexpression of specific miRNAs in the EVs might be through pre-loading method using the gene editing system by plasmid vector or post-loading method to load miRNA mimics into EVs by electroporation or calcium chloride-mediated *** current several challenges for clinical use,it should open the next era of regenerative medicine for a variety of *** this article,we highlight the therapeutic potential of MSC-derived EVs as‘natural’DDS and current challenges.

Two new spectroscopic methods to detect the optical activity of liquid-liquid interfaces have been developed. The first one is the centrifugal liquid membrane （CLM） method combined with a conventional circular dichroism （CD） spectropolarimetry and the second one is a more interfacial specific second harmonic generation CD （SHG-CD） spectrometry. In the CLM-CD method, a cylindrical glass cell containing small amounts of organic and aqueous phases was rotated at about 7000 r/min in a sample chamber of a CD spectropolarimeter to generate an interface with a high specific interfacial area between the two-phase liquid membranes. The CD spectra of the J-aggregate of protonated 5,10,15, 20-tetraphenylporphyrin formed at the toluene-sulfuric acid interface have been measured, As for the SHG-CD, a circularly polarized wavelength-variable fs-laser system was constructed to measure the interfacial SHG spectra of a flat liquid-liquid interface. The ion-associated aggregation of a water-soluble anionic porphyrin promoted with a cationic amphiphile at the heptane-water interface was observed by this technique and the observed SHG-CD spectra proved the generation of a characteristic oPtical activity accompanied by the formation of the interfacial aggregate of inherently achiral porphyrin molecules. These methods will pioneer a new field of interfacial chiral chemistry in the studies of solvent extraction mechanisms.

Reverse current reduction of Ge photodiodes on Si without post-growth annealing

A new approach to reduce the reverse current of Ge pin photodiodes on Si is presented, in which an i-Si layer is inserted between Ge and top Si layers to reduce the electric field in the Ge layer. Without post- growth annealing, the reverse current density is reduced to -10 mA/cm^2 at -1 V, i.e., over one order of magnitude lower than that of the reference photodiode without i-Si layer. However, the responsivity of the photodiodes is not severely compromised. This lowered-reverse-current is explained by band-pinning at the i-Si/i-Ge interface. Barrier lowering mechanism induced by E-field is also discussed. The presented ＂non-thermal＂ approach to reduce reverse current should accelerate electronics-photonics convergence by using Oe on the Si complementary metal oxide semiconductor （CMOS） platform.

The bias eliminated least squares （BELS） method, which is known as efficient for unknown parameter estimation of transfer function in the correlated noise case, has been developed and applied effectively to the closed-loop system identification. In this paper, under the general settings, the realizations of the BELS method as a weighted instrumental variables （WlV） method in both direct and indirect closed- loop system identification are established through constructing an appropriate weighting matrix in the WlV method. The constructed structures are similar in both cases, which reveals that all the proof procedures of the two realizations are the same. Thus, the unified realizations of the BELS as the WlV method for the closed-loop system identification can be built. A simulation example is given to validate our theoretical analysis.

Performance Analysis of Mini Centrifugal Pump with Splitter Blades

Design method for a mini centrifugal pump is not established because the internal flow condition for these small-sized fluid machines is not clarified and conventional theory is not suitable for small-sized pumps. Then, a semi-open impeller for the mini centrifugal pump with 55mm impeller diameter is adopted in this research to take simplicity and maintenance into consideration. Splitter blades are adopted in this research to improve the performance and internal flow condition of mini centrifugal pump having large blade outlet angle. The performance tests are conducted with these rotors in order to investigate the effect of the splitter blades on the performance and internal flow condition of the mini centrifugal pump. A three dimensional steady numerical flow analysis is conducted to analyze rotor, volute efficiency and loss caused by a vortex. It is clarified from the experimental results that the performance of the mini centrifugal pump is improved by the effect of the splitter blades. Flow condition at outlet of the rotor becomes uniform and back flow regions are suppressed in the case with the splitter ***, the volute efficiency increases and the vortex loss decreases. In the present paper, the performance of the mini centrifugal pump is shown and the flow condition is clarified with the results of the experiment and the numerical flow analysis. Furthermore, the performance analyses of the mini centrifugal pumps with and without the splitter blades are conducted.
