Association between coinfection of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans and Treponema denticola and periodontal tissue destruction in chronic periodontitis

Background The association between the infection of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Actinobacillus actinomy-cetemcomitans and Treponema denticola in chronic periodontitis (CP) and the severity of periodontal disease remains to be elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate the subgingival infection frequencies of three periodontopathic bacteria in Chinese CP patients and to evaluate the correlations between infection by these bacteria and periodontal *** A multiple PCR assay using primers derived from 16SrDNA genes of P. gingivalis, A. actinomy-cetemitans and T. denticola was established to measure simultaneously the presence of the three microbes in 162 subgingival samples from 81 Chinese CP patients. Results The positive rates of P. gingivalis, A. actinomycetemitans and T. denticola in the subgingival samples were 84.6%, 83.3% and 88.3%, respectively. Of the subgingival samples, 68% revealed the coinfection of all the three microbes. The infection rates with P. gingivalis, A. actinomycetemitans or T. denticola alone was 5.9% (1/17), 17.6% (3/17) and 76.5% (13/17), respectively. A close association was present between the A. actinomycetemitans infection and gingival index (GI) (P0.05). P. gingivalis and A. actinomycetemitans were more frequently detectable in middle and deep pockets than in shallow ones (P<0.01), while T. denticola was found remarkably often in deep pockets (P<0.05). The coinfection rate of the three microbes was significantly higher in sites with severe periodontitis than in those with mild periodontitis (P<0.01). Conclusions The multiple PCR established in this study can be used as a sensitive and specific method to simultaneously detect all three microbes in subgingival samples. The synthesis ofα-amino acid from imines with different carbonyl sources is attractive for both synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry ***,which were easily available from the corresponding ketones and amines,were employed as one of the most ideal ***,cyanation and subsequent hydrolysis were required to install the carboxyl group^([1]).In these cases,the toxicity of the cyanation reagents limited its further synthetic applications in organic ***,metal activation of imine substrates to make the organometallic intermediate and trap CO_(2) to give the desiredα-amino acid were also developed by many groups(Scheme 1A).The utilization of stoiochiometric amounts of metal reagents was required to realize the ***,Yu reported a novel photocatalytic reductive carboxylation protocol for synthesis ofα-amino acid from imines with CO_(2)as the carbonyl source^([2]).

Soil colloids can significantly enhance spreading of polybromodiphenyl ethers in groundwater by serving as an effective carrier

Polybromodiphenyl ethers(PBDEs),the widely used flame retardants,are common contaminants in surface soils at e-waste recycling *** association of PBDEs with soil colloids has been observed,indicating the potential risk to groundwater due to colloid-facilitated ***,the extent to which soil colloidsmay enhance the spreading of PBDEs in groundwater is largely ***,we report the co-transport of decabromodiphenyl ester(BDE-209)and soil colloids in saturated porous *** colloids released froma soil sample collected at an e-waste recycling site in Tianjin,China,contain high concentration of PBDEs,with BDE-209 being the most abundant conger(320±30 mg/kg).The colloids exhibit relatively high mobility in saturated sand columns,under conditions commonly observed in groundwater ***,under all the tested conditions(i.e.,varying flow velocity,pH,ionic species and ionic strength),the mass of eluted BDE-209 correlates linearly with that of eluted soil colloids,even though the mobility of the colloids varies markedly depending on the specific hydrodynamic and solution chemistry conditions ***,the mass of BDE-209 retained in the columns also correlates strongly with themass of retained ***,the PBDEs remain bound to soil colloids during transport in porous *** in this study indicate that soil colloidsmay significantly promote the transport of PBDEs in groundwater by serving as an effective *** might be the reason why the highly insoluble and adsorptive PBDEs are found in groundwater at some PBDE-contaminated sites.

Changes in source contributions to the oxidative potential of PM_(2.5)in urban Xiamen,China

The toxicity of PM_(2.5)does not necessarily change synchronously with its mass *** this study,the chemical composition(carbonaceous species,water-soluble ions,and metals)and oxidative potential(dithiothreitol assay,DTT)of PM_(2.5)were investigated in 2017/2018 and 2022 in Xiamen,*** decrease rate of volume-normalized DTT(DTTv)(38%)was lower than that of PM_(2.5)(55%)between the two sampling ***,the mass-normalized DTT(DTTm)increased by 44%.Clear seasonal patterns with higher levels in winter were found for PM_(2.5),most chemical constituents and DTTv but not for *** large decrease in DTT activity(84%−92%)after the addition of EDTA suggested that watersoluble metals were the main contributors to DTT in *** increased gap between the reconstructed and measured DTTv and the stronger correlations between the reconstructed/measured DTT ratio and carbonaceous species in 2022were *** decrease rates of the hazard index(32.5%)and lifetime cancer risk(9.1%)differed from those of PM_(2.5)and DTTv due to their different main *** PMF-MLR model showed that the contributions(nmol/(min·m^(3)))of vehicle emission,coal+biomass burning,ship emission and secondary aerosol to DTTv in 2022 decreased by 63.0%,65.2%,66.5%,and 22.2%,respectively,compared to those in 2017/2018,which was consistent with the emission reduction of vehicle exhaust and coal consumption,the adoption of low-sulfur fuel oil used on board ships and the reduced production of ***,the contributions of dust+sea salt and industrial emission increased.

Toxicity variability in Alexandrium pacificum isolated from East China Sea:impact of temperature and light intensity

Suitable temperature and light intensity play important roles in the formation of harmful algae blooms(HABs),which can pose serious threats to aquatic ecosystems and human *** this study,we measured the growth,physiological function,and paralytic shellfish toxins(PSTs)production of Alexandrium pacificum(CCMA-272),a strain isolated from East China Sea,at different temperatures(15,20,and 25℃)and light intensities(30,60,and 90μmol photons/(m^(2)·s)).Results indicate that temperature and light intensity significantly affected the growth,physiology,and toxigenic potentials of *** optimal conditions for the growth of *** were observed at 20℃under60μmol photons/(m^(2)·s).Regarding the production of PSTs,this strain of *** produced 12 PSTs,including carbamate toxins:saxitoxin(STX),neosaxitoxin(NEO),and gonyautoxin 1–4(GTX1,GTX2,GTX3,GTX4);dicarbamoyl toxins:dicarbamoylsaxitoxin(dcSTX),dicarbamoylgonyautoxin 2,3(dcGTX2,dcGTX3);and N-sulfocarbamoyl toxins:N-sulfocarbamoylgonyautoxin 1,2(C1,C2),and gonyautoxin 5(GTX5).Among all the PSTs,C2 was the most *** temperature(15℃)and high light intensity(90μmol photons/(m^(2)·s))were beneficial for the production of PSTs in *** cultured at 20 and 25℃,*** generated comparable total quantities of PSTs,yet the toxicity levels were lower at 25℃.Intra-cellular PSTs contents were greater than extra-cellular PSTs contents,except those under the condition of 25℃with 30μmol photons/(m^(2)·s).However,as the increase of temperature,*** released more amounts of analogues with higher toxicity levels(e.g.,STX and dcGTX_(2))into the environment than *** findings emphasize the significant sensitivity of *** to temperature and light intensity,highlighting the importance of evaluating both intra-cellular and extra-cellular PSTs for assessing its toxicity and aiding in the prediction and management of HABs.

Effects of surface fluoride modification on TiO_(2)for the photocatalytic oxidation of toluene

In the present study,we investigated the influence of surface fluorine(F)on TiO_(2)for the photocatalytic oxidation(PCO)of ***_(2)modified with different F content was prepared and *** was found that with the increasing of F content,the toluene conversion rate first increased and then ***,CO_(2)mineralization efficiency showed the opposite *** on the characterizations,we revealed that F substitutes the surface hydroxyl of TiO_(2)to form the structure of≡*** presence of the appropriate amount of surface≡Ti-F on TiO_(2)greatly enhanced the separation of photogenerated carriers,which facilitated the generation of·OH and promoted the activity for the PCO of *** was further revealed that the increase of only·OH promoted the conversion of toluene to ring-containing intermediates,causing the accumulation of intermediates and then conversely inhibited the·OH generation,which led to the decrease of the CO_(2)mineralization *** above results could provide guidance for the rational design of photocatalysts for toluene oxidation.

Study on the off situ reconstruction of the core neutron field based on dual-task hybrid network architecture

The off situ accurate reconstruction of the core neutron field is an important step in realizing real-time reactor *** existing off situ reconstruction method of the neutron field is only applicable to cases wherein a single region changes at a specified location of the ***,when the neutron field changes are complex,the accurate identification of the individual changed regions becomes challenging,which seriously affects the accuracy and stability of the neutron field ***,this study proposed a dual-task hybrid network architecture(DTHNet)for off situ reconstruction of the core neutron field,which trained the outermost assembly reconstruction task and the core reconstruction task jointly such that the former could assist the latter in the reconstruction of the core neutron field under core complex ***,to exploit the characteristics of the ex-core detection signals,this study designed a global-local feature upsampling module that efficiently distributed the ex-core detection signals to each reconstruction unit to improve the accuracy and stability of *** experiments were performed on the simulation datasets of the CLEAR-I reactor to verify the accuracy and stability of the proposed *** results showed that when the location uncertainty of a single region did not exceed nine and the number of multiple changed regions did not exceed ***,the reconstructed ARD was within 2%,RD_(max)was maintained within 17.5%,and the number of RD≥10%was maintained within ***,when the noise interference of the ex-core detection signals was within±2%,although the average number of RD≥10%increased to 16,the average ARD was still within in 2%,and the average RD_(max)was within 22%.Collectively,these results show that,theoretically,the DTHNet can accurately and stably reconstruct most of the neutron field under certain complex core changes.

Dynamic of mode transition in air surface micro-discharge plasma: reactive species in confined space

Flexible surface micro-discharge plasma is a non-thermal plasma technique used for treating wounds in a painless way, with significant efficacy for chronic or hard-to-heal wounds. In this study, a confined space was designed to simulate wound conditions, with gelatin used to simulate wound tissue. The distinction between open and confined spaces was explored, and the effects of temperature, humidity, discharge power and the gap size within the confined space on the plasma characteristics were analyzed. It was found that temperature, humidity and discharge power are important factors that affect the concentration distribution of active components and the mode transition between ozone and nitrogen oxides. Compared to open space, the concentration of ozone in confined space was relatively lower, which facilitated the formation of nitrogen oxides. In open space, the discharge was dominated by ozone initially. As the temperature,humidity and discharge power increased, nitrogen oxides in the gas-phase products were gradually detected. In confined space, nitrogen oxides can be detected at an early stage and at much higher concentrations than ozone concentration. Furthermore, as the gap of the confined space decreased, the concentration of ozone was observed to decrease while that of nitrate increased, and the rate of this concentration change was further accelerated at higher temperature and higher power. It was shown that ozone concentration decreased from 0.11 to 0.03 μmol and the nitrate concentration increased from 20.5 to 24.5 μmol when the spacing in the confined space was reduced from 5 to 1 mm, the temperature of the external discharge was controlled at 40 ℃, and the discharge power was 12 W. In summary, this study reveals the formation and transformation mechanisms of active substances in air surface micro-discharge plasma within confined space, providing foundational data for its medical applications.

Arsenic exposure and oxidative damage to lipid,DNA,and protein among general Chinese adults:A repeated-measures cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Arsenic-related oxidative stress and resultant diseases have attracted global concern,while longitudinal studies are *** assess the relationship between arsenic exposure and systemic oxidative damage,we performed two repeatedmeasures among 5236 observations(4067 participants)in theWuhan-Zhuhai cohort at the baseline and follow-up after 3 *** total arsenic,biomarkers of DNA oxidative damage(8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine(8-OHdG)),lipid peroxidation(8-isoprostaglandin F2alpha(8-isoPGF2α)),and protein oxidative damage(protein carbonyls(PCO))were detected for all *** we used linearmixed models to estimate the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between arsenic exposure and oxidative ***-response curves were constructed by utilizing the generalized additive mixed models with thin plate *** adjusting for potential confounders,arsenic level was significantly and positively related to the levels of global oxidative damage and their annual increased rates in dose-response *** cross-sectional analyses,each 1%increase in arsenic levelwas associated with a 0.406%(95%confidence interval(CI):0.379%to 0.433%),0.360%(0.301%to 0.420%),and 0.079%(0.055%to 0.103%)increase in 8-isoPGF2α,8-OHdG,and PCO,*** importantly,arsenic was further found to be associated with increased annual change rates of 8-isoPGF2α(β:0.147;95%CI:0.130 to 0.164),8-OHdG(0.155;0.118 to 0.192),and PCO(0.050;0.035 to 0.064)in the longitudinal *** study suggested that arsenic exposurewas not only positively related with global oxidative damage to lipid,DNA,and protein in cross-sectional analyses,but also associated with annual increased rates of these biomarkers in dose-dependent manners.

Enhanced Cd^(2+)removal from aqueous solution using olivine and magnesite combination:New insights into the mechanochemical synergistic effect

In this study,an efficient stabilizer material for cadmium(Cd^(2+))treatment was successfully prepared by simply co-milling olivine with *** analyticalmethods including XRD,TEM,SEM and FTIR,combined with theoretical calculations(DFT),were used to investigate mechanochemical interfacial reaction between twominerals,and the reaction mechanism of Cd removal,with ion exchange between Cd^(2+)and Mg^(2+)as the main pathway.A fixation capacity of Cd^(2+)as high as 270.61 mg/g,much higher than that of the pristine minerals and even the individual/physical mixture of milled olivine and magnesite,has been obtained at optimized conditions,with a neutral pH value of the solution after treatment to allow its direct *** as-proposed Mg-based stabilizer with various advantages such as cost benefits,green feature etc.,will boosts the utilization efficiency of naturalminerals over the elaborately prepared adsorbents.
