The effects of antibacterial compounds produced by Saccharomyces cerevisiae in Koumiss on pathogenic Escherichia coli O8 and its cell surface characteristics were *** isolated from Koumiss produced antibacterial compounds which were active against pathogenic *** O8 as determined by the Oxford cup *** aqueous phases from *** at p H=2.0（S2）and pH=8.0（S8）were extracted and tested,*** organic acids of S2 and S8 were determined by high performance liquid chromatography（HPLC）,and the concentrations of killer toxins were determined by enhanced bicinchoninic acid（BCA）Protein Assay *** minimum inhibition concentration（MIC）and the minimum bactericidal concentration（MBC）of S2 and S8 on *** O8 were determined by the broth microdilution *** effects of S2 and S8 on the growth curve of *** O8 were determined by turbidimetry,and the hydrophobicities of *** O8 cell surface were determined using the microbial adhesion to solvents method,the permeation of *** O8 cell membrane were determined by the o-nitrophenyl-β-D-galactoside（ONPG）*** phases at pH 2.0 and 8.0had larger inhibition zones and then S2 and S8 were obtained by *** main component in S2 was citric acid and it was propanoic acid in *** organic acids and killer toxins were also *** the MICs of S2 and S8 on *** O8 were 0.025 g m L^-1,the MBCs were 0.100 and 0.200 g m L^-1,*** normal growth curve of *** O8was S-shaped,however,it changed after addition of S2 and *** O8 was the basic character,and had a relatively hydrophilic *** hydrophobicity of *** O8 cell surface and the permeation of *** O8 cell membrane were increased after adding S2 and *** present study showed that S2 and S8 inhibit the growth of pathogenic *** O8and influence its cell surface characteristics.

Bandgap adjustment of a sandwich-like acoustic metamaterial plate with a frequency-displacement feedback control method

Several types of acoustic metamaterials composed of resonant units have been developed to achieve low-frequency *** most of these structures,bandgaps are determined by their geometric configurations and material *** paper presents a frequency-displacement feedback control method for vibration suppression in a sandwich-like acoustic metamaterial *** band structure is theoretically derived using the Hamilton principle and validated by comparing the theoretical calculation results with the finite element simulation *** this method,the feedback voltage is related to the displacement of a resonator and the excitation *** applying a feedback voltage on the piezoelectric fiber-reinforced composite(PFRC)layers attached to a cantilever-mass resonator,the natural frequency of the resonator can be *** ensures that the bandgap moves in a frequency-dependent manner to keep the excitation frequency within the *** on this frequency-displacement feedback control strategy,the bandgap of the metamaterial plate can be effectively adjusted,and the vibration of the metamaterial plate can be significantly suppressed.

Deep learning models are well known to be susceptible to backdoor attack,where the attacker only needs to provide a tampered dataset on which the triggers are *** trained on the dataset will passively implant the backdoor,and triggers on the input can mislead the models during *** study shows that the model shows different learning behaviors in clean and poisoned subsets during *** on this observation,we propose a general training pipeline to defend against backdoor attacks *** models can be trained from the unreli-able dataset by decoupling the learning process into three stages,i.e.,supervised learning,active unlearning,and active semi-supervised *** effectiveness of our approach has been shown in numerous experiments across various backdoor attacks and datasets.

Monogenic disorders refer to a group of human diseases caused by mutations in single genes. While disease-modifying therapies have offered some relief from symptoms and delayed progression for some monogenic diseases, most of these diseases still lack effective treatments. In recent decades, gene therapy has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for genetic disorders. Researchers have developed various gene manipulation tools and gene delivery systems to treat monogenic diseases. Despite this progress, concerns about inefficient delivery, persistent expression, immunogenicity, toxicity, capacity limitation, genomic integration, and limited tissue specificity still need to be addressed. This review gives an overview of commonly used gene therapy and delivery tools, along with the challenges they face and potential strategies to counter them.

Feeding prehistoric coastal community:A study of marine faunal remains at the Jingtoushan site

This article examines the abundant marine mollusc,and fish remains at the Jingtoushan shell midden(8,300 to7,800 cal a BP)in Zhejiang Province,China,to investigate the fishing economy,community development,the palaeoenvironment,and their interactions among the prehistoric populations in the lower Yangtze River Basin and southeastern coastal *** also attempts to explore the prosperity and decline of coastal settlements in China during the Neolithic Age and the potential reasons for their rise and fall,*** on the ecological and biological principles of marine animals,standard zooarchaeological methods and radiocarbon dating analysis are used for sampling,identification,measurement,and *** show that at least 11 mollusc taxa and 14 fish taxa can be identified from the Jingtoushan faunal *** ancient Jingtoushan residents possibly lived in a settlement close to the coast and engaged in inshore and offshore fishing,hunting,and gathering as their primary subsistence strategies,with low-level rice cultivation as a supplementary means of ***,the changes in the coastal environment could be one of the reasons why the Jingtoushan residents abandoned their *** research contributes to Chinese Neolithic archaeology with new evidence of the exploitation of marine resources around 8000 a BP in the eastern coastal areas and the relationship between Neolithic community development and environmental changes.

Surface modification by ligand growth strategy for dense copper bismuth film as photocathode to enhance hydrogen production activity

Hydrogen production from photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting has been regarded as a promising way to utilize renewable and endless solar ***,semiconductor film grown on photoelectrode suffers from numerous challenges,leading to the poor PEC ***,a straightforward sol-gel method with the ligand-induced growth strategy was employed to obtain dense and homogeneous copper bismuthate photocathodes for PEC hydrogen evolution *** various characterizations,it was found that the nucleation and surface growth of CuBi_(2)O_(4)layer induced by 2-methoxyethanol ligand(2-CuBi_(2)O_(4))demonstrated a decent crystallinity and coverage,as well as a large grain size and a low oxygen vacancy concentration,leading to the good ability of light absorption and carrier ***,under simulated sunlight irradiation(AM1.5G,100 mW/cm^(2)),the 2-CuBi_(2)O_(4)photocathode achieved an enhanced photocurrent density of−1.34 mA·cm^(−2)at 0.4 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode and a promising applied bias photon-to-current efficiency of 0.586%.This surface modification by ligand growth strategy will shed light on the future design of advanced photoelectrodes for PEC water splitting.

Carbon-based nanomaterials cause toxicity by oxidative stress to the liver and brain in Sprague-Dawley rats

Carbon-based nanomaterials have important research significance in various disciplines,such as composite materials,nanoelectronic devices,biosensors,biological imaging,and drug ***,the human and ecological risks associated with carbon-based nanomaterials have received increasing ***,the biological safety of carbon based nanomaterials has not been systematically *** this study,we used different types of carbon materials,namely,graphene oxide(GO),single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs),and multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs),as models to observe their distribution and oxidative damage in *** results of Histopathological and ultrastructural examinations indicated that the liver and lungs were the main accumulation targets of these ***-μ-XRF analysis revealed that SWCNTs and MWCNTs might be present in the *** shows that the three types of carbon-based nanomaterials could cross the gas-blood barrier and eventually reach the liver *** addition,SWCNTs and MWCNTs could cross the blood-brain barrier and accumulate in the cerebral *** increase in ROS and MDA levels and the decrease in GSH,SOD,and CAT levels indicated that the three types of nanomaterials might cause oxidative stress in the *** suggests that direct instillation of these carbon-based nanomaterials into rats could induce ROS *** addition,iron(Fe)contaminants in these nanomaterials were a definite source of free ***,these nanomaterials did not cause obvious damage to the rat brain *** deposition of selenoprotein in the rat brain was found to be related to oxidative stress and Fe *** information may support the development of secure and reasonable applications of the studied carbon-based nanomaterials.

Flotation separation of scheelite from calcite using luteolin as a novel depressant

This paper proposes luteolin(LUT)as a novel depressant for the flotation-based separation of scheelite and calcite in a sodium oleate(NaOL)*** suitability of LUT as a calcite depressant is confirmed through micro-flotation *** pH=9,with LUT concentration of 50 mg·L^(-1) and NaOL concentration of 50 mg·L^(-1),scheelite recovery reaches 80.3%.Calcite,on the other hand,exhibits a recovery rate of 17.6%,indicating a significant difference in floatability between the two ***,the surface modifica-tions of scheelite and calcite following LUT treatment are characterized using adsorption capacity testing,Zeta potential analysis,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and atomic force microscopy(AFM).The study in-vestigates the selective depressant mechanism of LUT on *** capacity testing and Zeta potential analysis demonstrate sub-stantial absorption of LUT on the surface of calcite,impeding the further adsorption of sodium oleate,while its impact on scheelite is ***-IR and XPS analyses reveal the selective adsorption of LUT onto the surface of calcite,forming strong chemisorption bonds between the hydroxyl group and calcium ions *** directly illustrates the distinct adsorption densities of LUT on the two miner-al ***,LUT can effectively serve as a depressant for calcite,enabling the successful separation of scheelite and calcite.

Stability analysis and stabilization of semi-Markov jump linear systems with unavailable sojourn-time information

This study addresses the stability and stabilization problems of discrete-time semi-Markov jump linear systems(S-MJLSs) with unavailable sojourn-time information. The sojourn-time probability mass functions(S-TPMFs) of discrete-time semi-Markov chains are no longer confined to the geometric distribution, and it is difficult to obtain accurate and comprehensive information for S-TPMFs in practice. This is because S-TPMFs are usually deduced from the statistical characteristics according to the sampled-data, while adequate samples are often costly and time consuming. In this study, when the S-TPMFs for semi-Markov chains are assumed to be unavailable, the σ-error mean square stability is investigated for discrete-time S-MJLSs with some widely used assumptions; for semi-Markov chains, only the transition probability matrix of the embedded chain is used. In addition, the existence conditions of the effective controller are provided for closed-loop systems without using the information of S-TPMFs. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the validity of the obtained theoretical results.
