Wettability regulation from superhydrophilic to superhydrophobic via nanosecond laser ablation

Metal surfaces play a crucial role in numerous applications, from self-cleaning and anti-icing to anti-fogging and oil-water separation. The regulation of their wettability is essential to enhance their performance in these areas. This paper proposes a multi-state regulation method for metal surface wettability, leveraging nanosecond laser ablation. By creating non-uniform microstructures on a metal surface, the contact area between the solid and liquid phases can be increased, resulting in the attainment of superhydrophilic properties(contact angle(CA), ranging from 4.6° to 8.5°). Conversely, the construction of uniform microstructures leads to a decreased solid-liquid contact area, thereby rendering the metal surface hydrophilic(CA=12.2°–53°). Furthermore, through heat treatment on a surface with uniform microstructures, organic matter adsorption can be promoted while simultaneously reducing surface energy. This process results in the metal surface acquiring hydrophobic properties(CA=92.1°–133.5°), facilitated by the “air cushion effect.” Building on the hydrophobic surface, stearic acid modification can further reduce surface energy, ultimately bestowing the metal surface with superhydrophobic properties(CA=150.1°–152.7°, and sliding angle=3.8°). Performance testing has validated the durability and self-cleaning effectiveness of the fabricated superhydrophobic surface while also highlighting the excellent anti-fog performance of the superhydrophilic surface.These findings strongly indicate the immense potential of these surfaces in various engineering applications.

Suitability evaluation of population and settlements spatial layout after Wenchuan Earthquake

The suitability evaluation of population and settlements spatial layout in the mountainous areas is an important basis on which the scale of population and settlement after Wenchuan Earthquake is determined. Based on the statistical data of field research, this paper chooses 1264 towns in 51 counties as the scope of evaluation, selects eight indices in the evaluation index system which includes post-disaster population scale, population density, urbanization rate, the percentage of migrant workers, death rate by earthquake, the percentage of minorities, elevation-slope integrated terrain and comprehensive geological condition. Besides, this paper uses AHP supported by entropy technique and fuzzy membership function model to calculate the suitability evaluation index and then divides the disaster areas into five types： highly suitable area （area accounted for 11.03%）, relatively highly suitable area （15.29%）, moderately suitable area （29%）, less suitable area （30.08%） and unsuitable area （14.6%）. According to the result of suitability evaluation, this paper puts forward several suggestions for the reconstruction as follows： the urban system and the building of new countryside should be guided by the suitability evaluation subareas; post-earthquake reconstruction avoids zones near Longmenshan fracture and high-mountain gorge areas as far as possible; the scale of population and settlement should not exceed the capacity of resources and environment; population should be resettled as close as possible by considering adequately the heterogenicity and homogeneity of regional nationality culture characteristics; densely resettle the people at plains and hilly areas; encourage the migrant workers settle in the working place with their families voluntarily; and urban system reconstruction such as industry layout and important projects of lifeline should be guided by the spatial layout suitability evaluation.

Discussion on the Regional Division of the Development Stage of China's Wind Power

This paper constructs the index system of the regional division of the development stage of China's wind power resources,including the index of energy,the index of wind energy endowments and other indices.Based on principal component analysis and layered clustering analysis of these indices,and combined with the conceptual function of the development and utilization stage of the wind power,this paper divides the development and utilization stage of the wind power into four stages taking province as the basic yardstick:optimization growth stage,the rapid growth stage,the slow growth stage and the initial growth stage.In addition,this paper briefly discusses the basic strategy that should be adopted in each development stage of wind power resources.

【目的】研究在不同含水量疏浚土中皇竹草Pennisetum hydridum的生长、生理特性及动态变化规律,探明皇竹草在疏浚土上生长的最适含水量,为新近吹填疏浚土的生态固化提供理论依据。【方法】选用皇竹草为供试植物,通过盆栽试验,设置20%(T1)、30%(T2)、40%(T3)、50%(T4)4个含水量(w)处理,分析皇竹草的生长、养分吸收、水分蒸腾、叶片和根系生理特性。【结果】皇竹草在T2处理中生长表现最佳,T2处理的株高(152 cm)、单株干质量(88.51 g)以及单株氮、磷、钾吸收量(505.72、99.39、1703.45 mg)等数值均显著高于其他处理(P40%>50%>20%。【结论】综合各项指标,30%(w)疏浚土含水量最有利于皇竹草的生长、养分吸收和蒸腾耗水,皇竹草在水淹胁迫(T3、T4)中的各项生长指标优于干旱胁迫(T1)。以上结果可供实际生产应用中疏浚土的浅层固化、植物资源利用等参考。

Albumin-bound kynurenic acid is an appropriate endogenous biomarker for assessment of the renal tubular OATs-MRP4 channel

Renal tubular secretion mediated by organic anion transporters(OATs)and the multidrug resistanceassociated protein 4(MRP4)is an important means of drug and toxin excretion.Unfortunately,there are no biomarkers to evaluate their function.The aim of this study was to identify and characterize an endogenous biomarker of the renal tubular OATs-MRP4 channel.Twenty-six uremic toxins were selected as candidate compounds,of which kynurenic acid was identified as a potential biomarker by assessing the protein-binding ratio and the uptake in OAT1-,OAT3-,and MRP4-overexpressing cell lines.OAT1/3 and MRP4 mediated the transcellular vectorial transport of kynurenic acid in vitro.Serum kynurenic acid concentration was dramatically increased in rats treated with a rat OAT1/3(rOAT1/3)inhibitor and in rOAT1/3 double knockout(rOAT1/3^(-/-))rats,and the renal concentrations were markedly elevated by the rat MRP4(rMRP4)inhibitor.Kynurenic acid was not filtered at the glomerulus(99%of albumin binding),and was specifically secreted in renal tubules through the OAT1/3-MRP4 channel with an appropriate affinity(Km)(496.7 mM and 382.2 mM for OAT1 and OAT3,respectively)and renal clearance half-life(t1/2)in vivo(3.7±0.7 h).There is a strong correlation in area under the plasma drug concentration-time curve(AUC0et)between cefmetazole and kynurenic acid,but not with creatinine,after inhibition of rOATs.In addition,the phase of increased kynurenic acid level is earlier than that of creatinine in acute kidney injury process.These results suggest that albumin-bound kynurenic acid is an appropriate endogenous biomarker for adjusting the dosage of drugs secreted by this channel or predicting kidney injury.

A new radiomics approach combining the tumor and peri-tumor regions to predict lymph node metastasis and prognosis in gastric cancer

Objective The development of non-invasive methods for evaluating lymph node metastasis(LNM)preoperatively in gastric cancer(GC)is necessary.In this study,we developed a new radiomics model combining features from the tumor and peritumor regions for predicting LNM and prognoses.Methods This was a retrospective observational study.In this study,two cohorts of patients with GC treated in Zhongshan Hospital Fudan University(Shanghai,China)were included.In total,193 patients were assigned to the internal training/validation cohort;another 98 patients were assigned to the independent testing cohort.The radiomics features were extracted from venous phase computerized tomography(CT)images.The radiomics model was constructed and the output was defined as the radiomics score(RS).The performance of the RS and CT-defined N status(ctN)for predicting LNM was compared using the area under the curve(AUC).The 5-year overall survival and progression-free survival were compared between different subgroups using Kaplan–Meier curves.Results In both cohorts,the RS was significantly higher in the LNM-positive group than that in the LNM-negative group(all P<0.001).The radiomics model combining features from the tumor and peri-tumor regions achieved the highest AUC in predicting LNM(AUC,0.779 and 0.724,respectively),which performed better than the radiomics model based only on the tumor region and ctN(AUC,0.717,0.622 and 0.710,0.603,respectively).The differences in 5-year overall survival and progression-free survival between high-risk and low-risk groups were significant(both P<0.001).Conclusions The radiomics model combining features from the tumor and peri-tumor regions could effectively predict the LNM in GC.Risk stratification based on the RS was capable of distinguishing patients with poor prognoses.

Microporous Cyclodextrin Film with Funnel-type Channel Polymerized on Electrospun Cellulose Acetate Membrane as Separators for Strong Trapping Polysulfides and Boosting Charging in Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

The“shuttle effect”of polysulfides hampers the commercialization of lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries.Here,a thin molecular sieve film was decorated on the surface of an electrospun cellulose acetate(CA)membrane derived from recycled cigarette filters,where the truncated cone structureβ-cyclodextrin(β-CD)was selected as the building block to physically block and chemically trap polysulfides while simultaneously dramatically speeding up ion transport.Furthermore,on theβ-CD free side of the separator facing the cathode,graphite carbon(C)was sputtered as an upper current collector,which barely increases the thickness.These benefits result in an initial discharge performance of 1378.24 mAh g^(−1) and long-term cycling stability of 863.78 mAh g^(−1) after 1000 cycles at 0.2 C for the battery with theβ-CD/CA/C separator,which is more than three times that of the PP separator after 500 cycles.Surprisingly,the funnel-type channel ofβ-CD generates a differential ionic fluid pressure on both sides,speeding up ion transport by up to 69%,and a 65.3%faster charging rate of 9484 mA g^(−1) was achieved.The“funnel effect”of a separator is regarded as a novel and high-efficiency solution for fast charging of Li-S and other lithium secondary batteries.

Predictors of mortality in patients with acute smallbowel perforation transferred to ICU after emergency surgery:a single-centre retrospective cohort study

Background Although small-bowel perforation is a life-threatening emergency even after immediate surgical intervention,studies have rarely investigated surgical outcomes due to its relatively low incidence.This study aimed to investigate the outcomes of emergency surgery for patients with small-bowel perforation transferred to the intensive care unit(ICU)and the risk factors for mortality.Methods Consecutive patients with small-bowel perforation who were confirmed via emergency surgery and transferred to the ICU in Zhongshan Hospital,Fudan University(Shanghai,China)between February 2011 and May 2020 were retrospectively analysed.Medical records were reviewed to determine clinical features,laboratory indicators,surgical findings,and pathology.Results A total of 104 patients were included in this study,among whom 18(17.3%),59(56.7%),and 27(26.0%)underwent perforation repair,segmental resection with primary anastomosis,and small-bowel ostomy,respectively.Malignant tumours were the leading cause of perforation in these patients(40.4%,42/104).The overall post-operative complication rate and mortality rates were 74.0%(77/104)and 19.2%(20/104),respectively.Malignant tumour-related perforation(odds ratio[OR],4.659;95%confidence interval[CI],1.269–17.105;P=0.020)and high post-operative arterial blood-lactate level(OR,1.479;95%CI,1.027–2.131;P=0.036)were identified as independent risk factors for post-operative mortality in patients with small-bowel perforation transferred to the ICU.Conclusions Patients with small-bowel perforation who are transferred to the ICU after emergency surgery face a high risk of post-operative complications and mortality.Moreover,those patients with malignant tumour-related perforation and higher post-operative blood-lactate levels have poor prognosis.

Tertiary lymphoid structure patterns predicted anti-PD1 therapeutic responses in gastric cancer

Objective:Recent studies have highlighted the distinct value of tertiary lymphoid structure(TLS)for immunotherapeutic response prediction.However,it remains unclear whether TLS could play such roles in gastric cancer(GC).Methods:In this study,tumor tissue slices from 292 GC patients from Zhongshan Hospital were firstly reviewed to explore the correlation between TLS and clinical characteristics.Subsequently,we curated 38 reported genes that may function as triggers of TLS and performed consensus molecular subtyping in public RNA-seq datasets to determine TLS patterns in GC.Based on the differentially expressed genes acquired from two TLS patterns,we quantified TLS-related genes on the principal component analysis(PCA)algorithm to develop TLS score.A Zhongshan immunotherapy cohort including 13 patients who received programmed cell death 1(PD1)blockade therapy was established to conduct RNA sequencing analysis and multiplex immunohistochemistry(mIHC)tests using formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded(FFPE)tissues.The corresponding TLS score and immune cell counts were further compared based on therapeutic response variations.Results:Mature TLS was revealed as an independent prognostic factor in 292 GC patients.Patients with higher TLS score was characterized by prolonged survival time and superior response to immunotherapy.TLS score was correlated with immunotherapy-related characters,such as microsatellite instability(MSI)and tumor mutation burden(TMB).In addition,RNA-seq data analysis in the Zhongshan immunotherapy cohort indicated that a higher TLS score was correlated with a superior response to PD1 blockade therapy.mIHC tests also revealed that PD1+CD8+T cell counts were significantly increased in the high-TLS score group.Conclusions:This study highlighted that TLS was significantly associated with immune landscape diversity and complexity.Quantitatively evaluating TLS patterns of individual tumor will strengthen our understanding of TME characteristics and promote more effective immunotherapy strategies.

目的通过分析甲状腺乳头状癌(PTC)原发灶的超声特征构建颈部非典型声像图转移性淋巴结的预测模型。方法回顾性选取2022年6月至2023年6月于苏州大学附属第一医院诊治的PTC患者411例,排除颈部典型声像图转移性淋巴结或资料不完整者,最终201例患者纳入本研究。按颈部淋巴结是否转移分为两组,分析两组患者的临床及术前超声资料,确定颈部非典型声像图转移性淋巴结的独立危险因素,并建立列线图预测模型,使用ROC曲线及校准曲线评价模型的区分度及校准度。结果201例患者中转移组52例、无转移组149例。单因素分析显示两组患者在原发灶最大径、与被膜是否接触、内部回声、形态、边缘、钙化类型方面差异有统计学意义(均P<0.05);多因素分析显示结节的最大径(OR=1.181,95%CI=1.084~1.288)、与被膜接触(OR=2.962,95%CI=1.344~6.530)、边缘模糊(OR=3.711,95%CI=1.314~10.477)、内部存在微钙化(OR=3.236,95%CI=1.427~7.342)是发生颈部非典型声像图转移性淋巴结的独立危险因素。基于独立危险因素绘制列线图模型,模型的曲线下面积(AUC)、敏感性、特异性、准确性分别为0.853、75.00%、81.90%、81.59%。结论基于原发灶最大径、与被膜是否接触、边缘及微钙化特征构建的列线图模型对PTC颈部非典型声像图淋巴结转移有较好的预测效能,可降低非典型声像图转移性淋巴结的漏诊率,从而为临床决策提供更多的影像学信息。
