Effects of a low-voltage electric pulse charged to culture soil on plant growth and variations of the bacterial community

This study was conducted to verify the effect of an electric pulse on growth of crops (lettuce and hot pepper) that were cultivated in lab-scale soil. The electric pulse generated from direct-circuited 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 V of electricity by periodic exchange of the anode and cathode was charged to a culture soil that is an electrically pulsed culture soil (EPCS) but not charged to a conventional culture soil (CCS). Growth of lettuce increased and growth duration of hot pepper plants was more prolonged at 4, 6, 8, and 10 V of EPCS than at 2 V of EPCS and CCS. The fruiting duration and yield of hot pepper fruits were proportional to the growth duration of the hot pepper plants. Temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TGGE) patterns of 16S-rDNA obtained from the bacterial community inhabiting the CCS and EPCS were identical at the initial time and did not change significantly at days 28 and 56 of cultivation. The bacterial communities inhabiting the surface of lettuce roots were not influenced by the electric pulse but were significantly different from those inhabiting the culture soil based on the TGGE patterns. Growth of lettuce and hot pepper plants that were cultivated in 4 - 10 V of EPCS may increase;however, the bacterial community inhabiting the soil and the surface of plant roots may not be influenced by an electric pulse.

A study on cosmogenic activation in germanium was carried out to evaluate the cosmogenic background level of natural and ^(70)Ge depleted germanium detectors. The production rates of long-lived radionuclides were calculated with Geant4 and *** were validated by comparing the simulated and experimental spectra of CDEX-1B detector. Based on the validated codes, the cosmogenic background level was predicted for further tonne-scale CDEX experiment. The suppression of cosmogenic background level could be achieved by underground germanium crystal growth and high-purity germanium detector fabrication to reach the sensitivity requirement for direct detection of dark matter. With the low cosmogenic background, new physics channels,such as solar neutrino research and neutrinoless double-beta decay experiments, were opened and the corresponding simulations and evaluations were carried out.

目的:调查发生突发公共卫生事件时,一线护士正念及其心理健康现状,研究情绪智力在一线护士正念与心理健康之间的中介效应,以期为突发公共卫生事件管理提供参考。方法:采用便利抽样法,选取2023年1月呼和浩特市某三级甲等医院的215名一线护士,应用自制一般资料问卷、抑郁-焦虑-压力量表中文精简版、正念注意觉知量表、情绪智力量表进行问卷调查,并统计分析结果。结果:抑郁-焦虑-压力量表得分与正念、情绪智力得分均呈负相关(P<0.01)。Bootstrap检验结果显示,情绪智力得分在一线护士正念得分与抑郁-焦虑-压力量表得分之间的中介效应为-0.146(95%CI:-0.219~-0.083),占总效应的44.0%。结论:情绪智力在一线护士正念与心理健康之间存在部分中介作用,医院管理者应注重改善护士的心理健康,强化其对于突发公共卫生事件的应对能力。

Antralization at the edge of proximal gastric ulcers:Does Helicobacter pylori infection play a role?

AIM: To determine the prevalence of antralization at the edge of proximal gastric ulcers, and the effect ofH. pylori eradication on the mucosal appearances.METHODS: Biopsies were taken from the antrum, body and the ulcer edge of patients with benign proximal gastric ulcers before and one year after treatment. Gastric mucosa was classified as antral, transitional or body type.H. pylori positive patients receivedeither triple therapy, or omeprazole.RESULTS: Patients with index ulcers in the incisura, body or fundus (n=116) were analyzed. Antral-type mucosa was more prevalent at the ulcer edge inH. pylori-positive patients ***-negative patients (93% vs 60%, OR=8.95,95%CI: 2.47-32.4, P=0.001). At one year, there was a significant reduction in the prevalence of antralization (from 93 % to 61%, P=0.004) at the ulcer edge in patients with H. pyloribeing eradicated. However, there was no difference in the prevalence of antralization at the ulcer edge in those with persistent infection.CONCLUSION: H. pylori infection is associated with antralization at the edge of proximal gastric ulcers, which may be reversible in some patients after eradication of the infection.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the most common dementia,is characterized by potentially neurotoxic aggregation of Aβ peptide and tau protein,and their deposition as amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles(NFTs).Tau aggregation also occurs in other common neurodegenerative *** dementia(FTD)can be caused by tau mutations that increase the susceptibility of tau to hyperphosphorylation and aggregation,which may cause neuronal dysfunction and deposition of NFTs.17-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin(17-AAG)is a potent inhibitor of heat shock protein 90(Hsp90),a cytosolic chaperone implicated in the proper folding and functions of a repertoire of client proteins.17-AAG binds to Hsp90 and enhances degradation of Hsp90 client *** sought to determine whether 17-AAG can reduce Aβ and tau pathology in the brains of AD and FTD model mice expressing Aβ or P301L mutant tau,*** were randomized to receive 25,5,or 0 mg/kg 17-AAG thrice weekly from age eight to 11 *** was performed by rotarod test on motor function,on the area occupied by plaques in hippocampus or NFTs in medulla tissue sections,and on mortality.A high dose of 17-AAG tended to decrease NFTs in male mice(p=0.08).Further studies are required to confirm the effect of 17-AAG in diseases of tau aggregation.

Dear Editor, First discovered during 1947 in Uganda from febrile rhesus macaques, Zika virus （ZIKV） is a mosquito-borne, reemerging flavivirus historically known to be present in much of Africa and Asia, occasionally causing outbreaks amongst the local populace （Haddow et al., 2012）. ZIKV infections in humans are mostly asymptomatic, but a small percentage of patients may show clinical symptoms such as a fever and rash, which resolve within a week or less.

We study the scalar, vector and tensor two-gluon and trigluon glueball spectra in the framework of the 5-dimension dynamical holographic QCD model, where the metric structure is deformed self-consistently by the dilaton field. For comparison, the glueball spectra are also calculated in the hard-wall and soft-wall holographic QCD models. In order to distinguish glueballs with even and odd parities, we introduce a positive and negative coupling between the dilaton field and glueballs, and for higher spin glueballs, we introduce a deformed 5-dimension mass. With this set-up, there is only one free parameter from the quadratic dilaton profile in the dynamical holographic QCD model, which is fixed by the scalar glueball spectra. It is found that the two-gluon glueball spectra produced in the dynamical holographic QCD model are in good agreement with lattice data. Among six trigluon glueballs, the produced masses for 1±- and 2-- are in good agreement with lattice data, and the produced masses for 0--, 0＋- and 2＋- are around 1.5 GeV lighter than lattice results. This result might indicate that the three trigluon glueballs of 0--, 0＋- and 2＋- are dominated by the three-gluon condensate contribution.
