This paper introduces the experimental designs and outputs of the Diagnostic,Evaluation and Characterization of Klima(DECK),historical,Scenario Model Intercomparison Project(MIP),and Paleoclimate MIP(PMIP)experiments from the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology Earth System Model version 3(NESM3).Results show that NESM3 reasonably simulates the modern climate and the major internal modes of climate *** the Scenario MIP experiment,changes in the projected surface air temperature(SAT)show robust“Northern Hemisphere(NH)warmer than Southern Hemisphere(SH)”and“land warmer than ocean”patterns,as well as an El Niño-like warming over the tropical *** in the projected precipitation exhibit“NH wetter than SH”and“eastern hemisphere gets wetter and western hemisphere gets drier”patterns over the *** precipitation patterns are driven by circulation changes owing to the inhomogeneous warming *** PMIP experiments show enlarged seasonal cycles of SAT and precipitation over the NH due to the seasonal redistribution of solar *** in the climatological mean SAT,precipitation,and ENSO amplitudes are consistent with the results from PMIP4 *** NESM3 outputs are available on the Earth System Grid Federation nodes for data users.

Study on Transient Gap Resonance with Consideration of the Motion of Floating Body

In this paper, the transient fluid resonance phenomenon inside a narrow gap between two adjacent boxes excited by the incident focused waves with various spectral peak periods and focused wave amplitudes is simulated by utilizing the open-sourced computational fluid dynamics software, Open FOAM. The weather-side box is allowed to heave freely under the action of waves, and the lee-side box keeps fixed. This paper mainly focuses on how both the spectral peak period and the focused wave amplitude affect the free-surface amplification inside the gap, the motion of the weather-side box, and the wave loads(including the vertical and the horizontal wave forces) acting on both *** comparison, another two-box system with both boxes fixed is also considered as a control group. It is found that the motion of the weather-side box significantly changes the characteristics of the transient gap resonance, and it would cause that the fluid resonant period becomes 1.4-1.6 times that of the two-box system with both boxes *** the concerned physical quantities(i.e., the free-surface amplification in the gap, the motion of the weather-side box, the wave loads) are found to closely depend on both the spectral peak period and the focused wave amplitude.

New insights into the role of spermine in enhancing the antioxidant capacity of rat spleen and liver under oxidative stress

Oxidative stress can damage cellular antioxidant defense and reduce livestock production *** is a ubiquitous cellular component that plays important roles in stabilizing nucleic acids,modulating cell growth and differentiation, and regulating ion channel activities. Spermine has the potential to alleviate the effects of oxidative stress. However, to date no information is available about the effect of spermine administration on antioxidant property of the liver and spleen in any mammalian in vivo system. This study aims to investigate the protective effect of spermine on rat liver and spleen under oxidative stress. Rats received intragastric administration of either 0.4 μmol/g body weight of spermine or saline once a day for 3 days. The rats in each treatment were then injected with either diquat or sterile saline at 12 mg/kg body weight. Liver and spleen samples were collected 48 h after the last spermine *** showed that regardless of diquat treatment, spermine administration significantly reduced the malondialdehyde(MDA) content by 23.78% in the liver and by 5.75% in the spleen, respectively(P < 0.05).Spermine administration also enhanced the catalase(CAT) activity, anti-hydroxyl radical(AHR) capacity and glutathione(GSH) content by 38.68%, 15.53% and 1.32% in the spleen, respectively(P< 0.05). There were interactions between spermine administration and diquat injection about anti-superoxide anion(ASA),AHR capacity, CAT activity, GSH content, and total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC) in the liver and about ASA capacity and T-AOC in the spleen of weaned rats(P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, spermine administration significantly increased the AHR capacity, CAT activity, GSH content, and T-AOC by 40.23%,31.15%, 30.25%, 35.37% in the liver, respectively(P < 0.05) and increased the T-AOC by 8% in the spleen of weaned rats(P < 0.05). Compared with the diquat group, spermine + diquat group significantly increased ASA capacity by 15.63

Maternal gene Ooep may participate in homologous recombination-mediated DNA double-strand break repair in mouse oocytes

DNA damage in oocytes can cause infertility and birth defects. DNA double-strand breaks （DSBs） are highly deleterious and can substantially impair genome integrity. Homologous recombination （HR）-mediated DNA DSB repair plays dominant roles in safeguarding oocyte quantity and quality. However, little is known regarding the key players of the HR repair pathway in oocytes. Here, we identified oocyte-specific gene Ooep as a novel key component of the HR repair pathway in mouse oocytes. OOEP was required for efficient ataxia telangiectasia mutated （ATM） kinase activation and Rad51 recombinase （RAD51） focal accumulation at DNA DSBs. Ooep null oocytes were defective in DNA DSB repair and prone to apoptosis upon exogenous DNA damage insults. Moreover, Ooep null oocytes exhibited delayed meiotic maturation. Therefore, OOEP played roles in preserving oocyte quantity and quality by maintaining genome stability. Ooep expression decreased with the advance of maternal age, suggesting its involvement in maternal aging.

Association between gastric cancer and -1993 polymorphism of TBX21 gene

AIM: To investigate the association between the polymorphism of TBX21 gene and the risk of gastric cancer in a Chinese population. METHODS: The -1993 polymorphism located in TBX21 gene promoter region was identified by polymerase chain reactionrestriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method. The risk between TBX21 gene genotype and gastric cancer was determined by multivariate logistic regression analysis in 220 gastric cancer patients and 262 cancer-free controls matched by age, sex and ethnicity. RESULTS: Compared with the TBX21 -1993TT genotype, the -1993CC genotype exhibited a significantly elevated risk for gastric cancer [Odds ratio (OR) = 3.42, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.41-8.31]. The relation-ship between the -1993 polymorphic genotype and the invasive status such as lymph node and distant metastasis was found among the gastric cancer patients (OR = 4.02, 95% CI: 1.87-8.66; OR = 7.02, 95% CI: 3.44-14.34, respectively). CONCLUSION: TBX21 -1993 polymorphism might contribute to the risk of gastric cancer, especially to the distant metastasis.

Predictive value of neutrophil infiltration as a marker of Helicobacter pylori infection

AIM： To evaluate the predictive value of neutrophil in- filtration as a marker of Helicobacter pylori （H. pyloni） infection. METHODS： A total of 315 patients with dyspepsia symptoms who underwent upper gastrointestinal en- doscopy were enrolled in this study. Biopsies were evaluated using the updated Sydney system. The medication history of all patients in the preceding 4 wk was recorded. The diagnosis of H. pylori infection was based on 13C-urea breath test at least 4 wk after with- drawal of antisecretory drugs, antibiotics and related drugs. For the patients with subtotal gastrectomy, the diagnosis of H. pylori infection was based on anti-H. pylori immunoglobulin G （IgG） antibody. Serum anti-H. pylori IgG antibody was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays （Biohit, Finland）. RESULTS： The sensitivity, specificity, positive predic- tive value and negative predictive value of neutrophil infiltration in the diagnosis ofH, pylorlinfection were 92.3%, 83.5%, 77.4% and 94.7%, respectively. Neu- trophil infiltration of gastric mucosa in the histological analysis was strongly associated withH, pylorlinfection （77.4% vs 5.3% in the neutrophil infiltration negative group, P = 0.000）. Moderate neutrophil infiltration was more frequent in H. pylorl infection when compared to mild infiltration （81.8% and 75%, respectively）, but did not reach statistical significance. For those patients with negative rapid urease test, H. pylori was detected in 73.2% of patients with positive neutrophil infiltration on histology. In patients with subtotal gastrectomy, the diagnostic accuracy of neutrophil infiltration in H. pylori infection was 50%. CONCLUSION： Neutrophil infiltration is closely associ- ated withH, pylori and may be recognized as a sign of this infection.
