In Situ Observation of Silt Seabed Pore Pressure Response to Waves in the Subaqueous Yellow River Delta

The in situ pore pressure response of silt under wave action is a complex process.However,this process has not been well studied because of limited field observation techniques.The dynamic response process is closely related to engineering geological hazards;thus,this process must be urgently explored.A long-term in situ observational study of the silt sediment pore water pressure response process under wave action was conducted in the subaqueous Yellow River Delta.The response characteristics of pore water pressure are affected by tidal level and wave height.Tidal level affects the overall trend of the pore water pressure response,while wave height influences the amplitude of the pore water pressure response.This study revealed a significant lag effect in the pore pressure response.The transient pore pressure in the seabed did not respond immediately to the wave-induced pressure stress on the seabed surface.This phenomenon may be attributed to the change in soil permeability.The maximum response depth was approximately 0.5 m with a 2 m wave height.A concept model of silt soil pore pressure response under different types of wave action was developed.The accumulation rate of the pore pressure is less than the dissipation rate;thus,the developed model highlights the oscillation pore pres-sure response mechanism.The highlighted response process is of considerable importance to transient liquefaction and the startup process of pore pressure response.

Secondary organic aerosol(SOA)is a very important component of fine particulate matter(PM)in the atmosphere.However,the simulations of SOA,which could help to elucidate the detailed mechanism of SOA formation and quantify the roles of various precursors,remains unsatisfactory,as SOA levels are frequently underestimated.It has been found that the performance of SOA formation models can be significantly improved by incorporating the emission and evolution of semivolatile and intermediate-volatility organic compounds(S/IVOCs).In order to explore the roles of S/IVOCs in SOA formation,this study reviews some simulation models which could consider S/IVOCs for SOA formation as well as the development of emission inventories of S/IVOCs and S/IVOC modules for SOA formation.In addition,the future research directions for simulations of the effect of S/IVOCs on SOA formation are suggested.

Experimental Researches on the Accuracy of Micro- Electromechanical Accelerometer-Array in Seafloor Failure Deformation Measurement

At present,there are few technologies applied to in situ observation of seabed deformation,among which the micro-electromechanical accelerometer-array(hereinafter referred to as accelerometers array)is a very advantageous measurement method,with both commercial products and successful application cases.However,the coupling effect between accelerometer-array and sur-rounding soil and the linkage effect of accelerometer-array itself during the deformation may influence the accuracy and reliability of the measurement data.A simulation test chamber was designed and processed,and four groups of simulation tests were carried out to explore the coupling effect and linkage effect of accelerometer-array in the soil with different degree of consolidation.The results show that the accelerometer-array and the soil coupled well,and the coupling effect is positively correlated with the degree of soil consoli-dation.The ratio of accumulative deviation to soil lateral deformation is high at the initial stage of deformation(0-50 mm)and reduced with the continuous increase of deformation(>100 mm).In the process of liquefied soil deformation,the linkage effect of accelerometer array can be ignored,and is negatively correlated with the degree of soil consolidation.A concept to improve the measurement accu-racy of accelerometer-array in different seafloor failure deformation modes is proposed.The research results provide references for the modification of accelerometer-array and the improvement for other flexible rod-shaped deformation sensors.

In silico prediction of self-interacting proteins(SIPs)has become an important part of proteomics.There is an urgent need to develop effective and reliable prediction methods to overcome the disadvantage of high cost and labor intensive in traditional biological wet-lab experiments.The goal of our survey is to sum up a comprehensive overview of the recent literature with the computational SIPs prediction,to provide important references for actual work in the future.In this review,we first describe the data required for the task of DTIs prediction.Then,some interesting feature extraction methods and computational models are presented on this topic in a timely manner.Afterwards,an empirical comparison is performed to demonstrate the prediction performance of some classifiers under different feature extraction and encoding schemes.Overall,we conclude and highlight potential methods for further enhancement of SIPs prediction performance as well as related research directions.

Probabilistic Optimal Power Flow of an AC/DC System with a Multiport Current Flow Controller

To evaluate the impact of the randomness and correlation of photovoltaic(PV)and load on AC/DC systems with a multiport current flow controller(M-CFC),this paper proposes a probabilistic optimal power flow calculation for AC/DC systems,based on a nonparametric kernel density estimation.First,according to the M-CFC model,the DC power flow calculation method with M-CFC was inferred,and its influence on line loss was analyzed.Second,a nonparametric kernel density estimation with an adaptive bandwidth is used to accurately describe the probability distribution of the PV and load,and correlation samples of the PV and load are obtained by the mixed copula function.Then an optimization model that considers system loss and static security is established,and a fast nondominated sorting genetic algorithm based on the elite strategy(NSGA-II)is used to calculate the multi-objective probability optimal power flow of the AC/DC system.Finally,a case study is performed on a modified IEEE39 bus system using measured PV and load data.We verified that the nonparametric kernel density estimation with an adaptive bandwidth can better adapt to random component uncertainty,and M-CFC can improve the static security of the system.

Preparation and surface modification of PVDF-carbon felt composite bipolar plates for vanadium flow battery

The performance of vanadium flow batteries （VFBs） is closely related to the materials used in the bipo- lar plates. Carbon-based composite bipolar plates are particularly suitable for VFB applications. However. most original preparation methods cannot simultaneously achieve good electrical conductivity and me- chanical performance. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to fabricating bipolar plates with car- bon plastic materials, including four steps, namely coating a poly （vinylidene fluoride）（PVDF） solution onto carbon felt, solvent evaporation, hot-pressing, and surface modification. The resulting bipolar plates showed high conductivity, good mechanical strength, and corrosion resistance. Surface modification by coating with carbon nanotubes （CNTs） removed the PVDF-rich layer from the surface of the carbon fibers. The high surface area of the CNT withdrew PVDF resin from the carbon fiber surface, and promoted the formation of a conductive network. The flexibility and battery charge-discharge cycle measurements showed that the composite bipolar plates can meet requirements for VFB applications.

Sources of methacrolein and methyl vinyl ketone and their contributions to methylglyoxal and formaldehyde at a receptor site in Pearl River Delta

Methacrolein(MACR) and methyl vinyl ketone(MVK) are two major intermediate products from the photochemical oxidation of isoprene, the most important biogenic volatile organic compound. In addition, MACR and MVK have primary emissions. Investigating the sources and evolution of MACR and MVK could provide helpful information for the oxidative capacity of the atmosphere. In this study, hourly measurements of isoprene, MACR, and MVK were conducted at a receptor site in the Pearl River Delta region(PRD), i.e., the Heshan site(HS), from 22 October to 20 November, 2014. The average mixing ratios of isoprene,MACR and MVK were 151 ± 17, 91 ± 6 and 79 ± 6 pptv, respectively. The daily variations and the ratios of MVK/MACR during daytime and nighttime suggested that other sources besides isoprene photooxidation influenced the MACR and MVK abundances at the HS.Positive matrix factorization was utilized to resolve the sources of MACR and MVK. Five sources were identified and quantified, including biogenic emissions, biomass burning,secondary formation, diesel, and gasoline vehicular emissions. Among them, secondary formation made the greatest contribution to observed MACR and MVK with average contributions of ～ 45% and ～ 70%, respectively. Through the yields of secondary products from the oxidation of MACR and MVK by the OH radical and the concentrations of MACR and MVK, it was found that methylglyoxal and formaldehyde were the main oxidation products of MACR and MVK at the HS site. Overall, this study evaluated the roles of primary emissions on ambient levels of MACR and MVK and advanced the understanding of photochemical oxidation of MACR and MVK in the PRD.

Phase change material(PCM)applied to roofs can weak external heat entering the room to reduce air-conditioning energy consumption.In this study,three forms of macro-encapsulated PCM roofs with different PCMs(RT27,RT31,RT35HC,PT37)are proposed.The effects of PCM thickness,the encapsulation forms,and different PCMs on the thermal performance of the roof are discussed in Moroccan semi-arid and Mediterranean climates.The results show that as the PCM thickness increases,the peak temperature attenuation of the roof inner surface decreases.In two climates,the pure PCM layer among the three encapsulation forms(i.***.pure PCM layer,PCM in aluminum tubes,PCM in triangular aluminum)is the easiest to appear the phenomenon of insufficient heat storage and release,while the reduction of the peak inner surface temperature and time lag is the most satisfying.For the PCM in the aluminum tube,phase change time is the shortest and the latent heat utilization ratio is the highest,while thermal regulation performance is the least satisfying.The PCM in triangular aluminum can improve the latent heat utilization ratio significantly,and its thermal regulation performance is in the middle.In semi-arid climate,the time lag increases with phase change temperature increasing.The time lag could reach up to 6 h with 37℃phase transition temperature.In Mediterranean climate,the longest time lag with RT31 is 5 h,while the lowest peak inner surface temperature appears with RT27.The obtained conclusions could provide guidance for the application of PCM roofs in these two climates.

A high-performance biochar produced from bamboo pyrolysis with in-situ nitrogen doping and activation for adsorption of phenol and methylene blue

Nitrogen doping is a promising method for the preparation of functional carbon materials.In this study,a nitrogen-doped porous coral biochar was prepared by using bamboo as raw material,urea as nitrogen source,and KHCO3 as green activator through in-situ pyrolysis.The structure of the obtained biochar was characterized by various techniques including nitrogen adsorption and desorption,Raman spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectrometer,and etc.The adsorption properties of nitrogen-doped biochar were evaluated with phenol and methylene blue probes.The results showed that the nitrogen source ratio had a significant effect on the evolution of pore structure of biochar.Low urea addition ratio was beneficial to the development of pore structures.The optimum specific surface area of nitrogen-doped biochar could be up to 1693 m^2·g^-1.Nitrogen doping can effectively improve the adsorption capacity of biochar to phenol and methylene blue.Biochar prepared at 973.15 K with low urea addition ratio exhibited the highest adsorption capacity for phenol and methylene blue,and the equilibrium adsorption capacity was 169.0 mg·g^-1 and 499.3 mg·g^-1,respectively.By comparing the adsorption capacity of various adsorbents in related fields,it is proved that the nitrogen-doped biochar prepared in this study has a good adsorption effect.

Hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite with radial mesopores:Preparation,formation mechanism and application for benzene alkylation

Hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite with radial mesopores is controllably synthesized using piperidine in a NaOH solution.The piperidine molecules enter the zeolite micropores and protect the zeolite framework from extensive desilication.The areas containing fewer aluminum atoms contain fewer piperidine protectant molecules and so they dissolve first.Small amounts of mesopores are then gradually generated in areas with more aluminum atoms and more piperidine protectant.In this manner,radial mesopores are formed in the ZSM-5 zeolite with a maximal preservation of the micropores and active sites.The optimal hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite,prepared with a molar ratio of piperidine to zeolite of 0.03,had a mesopore surface area of 136 m·g and a solid yield of 80%.The incorporation of the radial mesopores results in micropores that are interconnected which shortened the average diffusion path length.Compared to the parent zeolite,the hierarchical ZSM-5 zeolite possesses more accessible acid sites and has a higher catalytic activity and a longer lifetime for the alkylation of benzene.
