Finding the superior mode basis for mode-division multiplexing:a comparison of spatial modes in air-core fiber

Diverse spatial mode bases can be exploited in mode-division multiplexing(MDM)to sustain the capacity growth in fiber-optic communications,such as linearly polarized(LP)modes,vector modes,LP orbital angular momentum(LP-OAM)modes,and circularly polarized OAM(CP-OAM)modes.Nevertheless,which kind of mode bases is more appropriate to be utilized in fiber still remains unclear.Here,we aim to find the superior mode basis in MDM fiber-optic communications via a system-level comparison in air-core fiber(ACF).We first investigate the walk-off effect of four spatial mode bases over 1-km ACF,where LP and LP-OAM modes show intrinsic mode walk-off,while it is negligible for vector and CP-OAM modes.We then study the mode coupling effect of degenerate vector and CP-OAM modes over 1-km ACF under fiber perturbations,where degenerate even and odd vector modes suffer severe mode cross talk,while negligible for highorder degenerate CP-OAM modes based on the laws of angular momentum conservation.Moreover,we comprehensively evaluate the system-level performance for data-carrying single-channel and two-channel MDM transmission with different spatial mode bases under various kinds of fiber perturbations(bending,twisting,pressing,winding,and out-of-plane moving).The obtained results indicate that the CP-OAM mode basis shows superiority compared to other mode bases in MDM fiber-optic communications without using multiple-input multiple-output digital signal processing.Our findings may pave the way for robust shortreach MDM optical interconnects for data centers and high-performance computing.

The screen surface load(SSL)caused by granular materials is an important factor affecting the structural performance of vibrating screen.Based on virtual experiment,a multi-objective collaborative optimiza-tion method is proposed to control the SSL under high screening efficiency(SE)in this work.Firstly,a DEM model was established to study the influence of process parameters on SE and SSL.Secondly,the NSGA-Ⅱ(Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm)was employed to optimize the screening parameters with both SE and SSL as targets.The optimization method proves to be effective implementing on a linear vibrating screening.With SE equals to 98.5%,the SSL optimizable range is 39.2%.While compromising the SE to 88.7%,the SSL optimizable range improves to 48.6%.The result shows that the collaborative optimization could effectively control the SSL while maintaining a high SE,which is of great significance to improve the service life of screen surface and screen body.

A sudden and unprecedented outbreak of molluscan Philine kinglipini occurred in summer 2022 in Jiaozhou Bay,Shandong,China,causing substantial damage to local mariculture industry of the Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum.Although P.kinglipini has been found in many coastal regions of China,the molecular research of P.kinglipini has not been extensively studied,making it difficult to accurately identify and track P.kinglipini samples in field using molecular methods.Samples were collected during the outbreak and their morphological features and molecular sequences were analyzed.Results show that the causative species of the outbreak was P.kinglipini.The mitochondrial genome(mt DNA)of P.kinglipini was constructed for the first time,based on which phylogenetic analysis of the mt DNAs of P.kinglipini and related species in the order Cephalaspidea was carried out.As revealed by metabarcoding analysis of 18S rDNA V4,the seasonal change of P.kinglipini and closely related Philine species was striking with peaks between April and August.Therefore,metabarcoding analysis is applicable tool for monitoring the bloom development of P.kinglipini and related species.This study generated for the first time essential molecular marker sequences and mtDNA of P.kinglipini,which provided a reference for future characterization and monitoring of its outbreaks and for phylogenetic analysis of Philine species.

To improve the performance of K-means clustering algorithm, this paper presents a new hybrid approach of Enhanced artificial bee colony algorithm and Kmeans(EABCK). In EABCK, the original artificial bee colony algorithm(called ABC) is enhanced by a new mutation operation and guided by the global best solution(called EABC). Then, the best solution is updated by Kmeans in each iteration for data clustering. In the experiments, a set of benchmark functions was used to evaluate the performance of EABC with other comparative ABC variants. To evaluate the performance of EABCK on data clustering, eleven benchmark datasets were utilized. The experimental results show that EABC and EABCK outperform other comparative ABC variants and data clustering algorithms, respectively.

The dynamic response stability of the vibrating screen is an important factor affecting the screening effect and the structural performance of the vibrating screen.In this paper,to improve dynamic response stability and screening efficiency,we optimized the configuration of linear screening process parameters based on the co-optimization method with dual objectives via the virtual experiment.Firstly,a coupled DEM-MBK simulation model was established according to the dynamics of linear screen,and the dy-namic response law of the screen machine under material impact was investigated.Secondly,the quantitative index of dynamic response stability according to the time-domain characteristics of the centroid amplitude was established.The trend and significance of three types of screening process pa-rameters,including excitation,damping and structure,on the screening efficiency and dynamic response stability were analyzed through virtual orthogonal experiments.Finally,a parameter configuration scheme to achieve co-optimization was proposed based on the comprehensive balance method.The virtual experiment results show that the screening efficiency and dynamic response stability of the proposed scheme are improved by 3.28%and 49.07%,respectively,compared with the empirical parameter configuration.Obviously,the co-optimization method can maintain high screening efficiency and dynamic response stability at the same time,which is beneficial to improve the service life of the screen surface and screen body.

Two-Stage Constructions for the Rate-Compatible Shortened Polar Codes

In this paper,we propose the two-stage constructions for the rate-compatible shortened polar(RCSP)codes.For the Stage-I construction,the shortening pattern and the frozen bit are jointly designed to make the shortened bits be completely known by the decoder.Besides,a distance-greedy algorithm is presented to improve the minimum Hamming distance of the codes.To design the remaining Stage-II frozen bits,three different construction algorithms are further presented,called the Reed-Muller(RM)construction,the Gaussian Approximation(GA)construction,and the RM-GA construction.Then we give the row weight distribution numerical results of the generator matrix after the Stage-I and Stage-II constructions,which shows that the proposed constructions can efficiently increase the minimum Hamming distance.Simulation results show that the proposed RCSP codes have excellent frame error rate(FER)performances at different code lengths and code rates.More specifically,the RM-GA construction performs best and can achieve at most 0.8 dB gain compared to the wang14 and the quasi-uniform puncturing(QUP)schemes.The RM construction is designed completely by the distance-constraint without channel evaluation thus has the simplest structure.Interestingly,it still has better FER performance than the existing shortening/puncturing schemes,especially at high signal noise ratio(SNR)region.

In this study,we proposed a reliable and sustainable technique for the clean utilization of shrimp wastes,which can yield a solid inoculant of Bacillus subtilis OKF04 containing micronutrients at low cost without the risk of contamination.Study of the culture conditions revealed that the head of shrimp Litopenaus vannamei and the wheat bran acted as suitable substrates for the growth of B.subtilis OKF04.With 60%initial moisture content,30℃culture temperature,and 5%inoculation amount,followed by 48 hours of fermentation and 0.5%soluble starch added during the drying process(50℃for 6h),a solid B.subtilis OKF04 inoculant with a spore amount of 2.4×10^(10)CFU g^(-1)and a high amino acid content was obtained.The solid B.subtilis OKF04 inoculant was applied to cultivate pakchoi under pot experiment.As the result,of adding to,the size of stems and leaves,nutritional composition,and physiological activity of pakchoi were significantly(P<0.05)enhanced by solid B.subtilis OKF04 inoculant.B.subtilis OKF04 also significantly(P<0.05)increased the soil’s nutrient content and improved its microbial composition.Furthermore,pakchoi cultivated with a low dose of solid B.subtilis OKF04 inoculant(0.05 g kg^(-1)soil)resulted in the best results.This study provides a new method for the preparation of microbial inoculants with solid waste shrimp heads.

A temperature stable Li2Zn0.95(SrxCa1-x)0.05Ti3O8(0≤x≤1)ceramics were fabricated using a conventional solid-state route sintered at 1100℃for 4 h.The XRD results indicate that the main phase Li2ZnTi3O8 and secondary phase including SrxCa1-xTiO3(0≤x≤1)solid solution and TiO2 co-exist in composite and form a stable composite system when the(CaxSr1-x)(0≤x≤1)substitutes for Zn of Li2ZnTi3O8 ceramic.As x is increased from 0 to 1,the relative permittivity(εr)increases from 26.65 to 27.12,and the quality factor(Q×f)increases from 63300 to 66600 GHz.With the increased of x,the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(τf)increases from 0.27 to 8.23 ppm/℃,and then decreases to 3.51 ppm/℃.On the whole,the Li2Zn0.95(SrxCa1-x)0.05Ti3O8(0≤x≤1)ceramics show excellent comprehensive properties of middleεr=25-27,higher Q×f≥60000 GHz andτf≤±8.5 ppm/℃.

《极地规则》于2017年1月1日生效之后,航行于“西北航道”的船舶需要同时遵守《极地规则》和加拿大国内法规。为保障极地水域的船舶航行安全,防止船舶对极地水域造成的环境污染,《极地规则》规定了相应的强制措施和建议措施,加拿大随之废除旧法制定新法与《极地规则》的规定保持一致,但是新法中存有高于《极地规则》标准的问题。《极地规则》要求在“西北航道”航行的船舶符合技术标准,并不能解决加拿大国内法中要求外国特定船舶的强制报告制度而产生的争端,以及外国船舶进入北极群岛水域的提前申请许可制度,后者涉及《联合国海洋法公约》第234条授权范围的解释争端,以及国际法上“历史性水域”理论与实践中的争议。
