Federated Local Compact Representation Communication:Framework and Application

The core of federated learning(FL)is to transfer data diversity and distribution knowledge of cross-client ***-though adopted by most FL methods,model-sharing-based communication has limitations such as unstable optimization and lack of reasonable *** this paper,we propose an innovative approach that exploits a highly abstract local compact representation(LCR)as a communication carrier,paving a new feasible path for *** is not only more intuitive for multiclient joint training but also insensitive to local privacy,particularly in computer vision *** proposed LCR communication-based FL framework aims to improve performance,mitigate negative transfer,and enhance optimization ***,based on the domain adaptation theorem,in-depth theoretical proofs guarantee the contribution of representation communication from other domains,which may lead to a tight-er generalization error bound of the local ***,inspired by metric learning,a federated version of the triplet(FedTriplet)loss and distribution similarity reweighting aggregation are proposed to fully digest LCR from other clients and realize the LCRC-based FL framework with better ***-client FedTriplet transferring redresses the category boundaries in local latent space,resist-ing *** modified Wasserstein distance is employed for reweighting aggregation to overcome the negative transfer problem caused by ***,extensive experiments on MNIST/EMNIST and successful iris recognition applications demon-strate that the proposed LCRC framework is superior in terms of accuracy compared to mainstream model-sharing-based FL *** visualization results also show significant improvements in the distinguishability of the representation distribution.

A stage-specific cell-manipulation platform for inducing endothelialization on demand

Endothelialization is of great significance for vascular remodeling, as well as for the success of implanted vascular grafts/stents in cardiovascular disease treatment. However, desirable endothelialization on synthetic biomaterials remains greatly challenging owing to extreme difficulty in offering dynamic guidance on endothelial cell(EC) functions resembling the native extracellular matrix-mediated effects. Here, we demonstrate a bilayer platform with near-infrared-triggered transformable topographies, which can alter the geometries and functions of human ECs by tunable topographical cues in a remote-controlled manner, yet cause no damage to the cell viability. The migration and the adhesion/spreading of human ECs are respectively promoted by the temporary anisotropic and permanent isotropic topographies of the platform in turn, which appropriately meet the requirements of stage-specific EC manipulation for endothelialization. In addition to the potential of promoting the development of a new generation of vascular grafts/stents enabling rapid endothelialization, this stage-specific cell-manipulation platform also holds promise in various biomedical fields, since the needs for stepwise control over different cell functions are common in wound healing and various tissue-regeneration processes.

The expeditious acquisition of information pertaining to objects through the utilization of quantum technology has been a perennial issue of *** far,the efficient utilization of information from dynamic objects with limited resources remains a significant ***,we realize a nonlocal integrated sensing of the object's amplitude and phase information by combining digital spiral imaging with the correlated orbital angular momentum *** amplitude information is utilized for object identification,while the phase information enables us to determine the rotational *** demonstrate the nonlocal identification of a rotating object's shape,irrespective of its rotational symmetry,and introduce the concept of the correlated rotational Doppler effect,establishing a fundamental connection between this effect and the classical rotational Doppler effect,i.e.,that both rely on extracting crucial information from the spiral spectrum of *** present study highlights a promising pathway towards the realization of quantum remote sensing and imaging.

The most important method of understanding liquefaction-induced engineering failures comes from the investigation and analysis of earthquake *** May 2021,the Maduo M_(s)7.4 earthquake occurred on the Tibetan Plateau of *** most representative engineering disaster caused by this earthquake was bridge damage on liquefied *** this study,the mutual relationships between the anti-liquefaction pre-design situation,the ground motion intensity,the site liquefaction severity,and the bridge damage state for this earthquake were systematically analyzed for typical bridge damage on the liquefied *** field survey data and the current Chinese industry code,simulations of the liquefaction scenarios at typical bridge sites were performed for the pre-design seismic ground motion before the earthquake and the seismic ground motion during the *** combining these results with post-earthquake investigation results,the reason for the serious bridge damage resulting from this earthquake is revealed,and the necessary conditions for avoiding serious seismic damage to bridges built in liquefiable sites is presented.

Enhanced Removal of Phenols by MIZ-Cu Nanozyme Exhibiting Laccase-like Activity and Broader Adaptability to Temperature and pH Conditions

Phenolic compounds,classified as persistent organic pollutants,pose a significant threat to both human health and environmental ***,the efficient removal of phenolic substances from water is of paramount ***,a multicopper oxidase,is commonly utilized for the efficient removal of phenolic contaminants from water due to its highly effective catalytic activity towards phenolic ***,natural laccase exhibits certain limitations that impede its practical implementation in industrial settings,including a restricted pH activity range,diminished enzymatic efficacy at elevated temperatures,and substantial cost *** this work,we prepared a nanozyme(MIZ-Cu,MIZ:2-methylimidazole)with laccase-like activity by coordinating 2-methylimidazole and *** nanozyme overcomes the deactivation issues observed in natural laccase under high temperature and alkaline *** catalytic activity of the MIZ-Cu towards phenolic compounds surpasses that of natural laccase across a wide range of temperature and pH *** pH=9,80℃,and 500 mmol/L NaCl conditions,the removal rate of four phenols(catechol,hydroquinone,resorcinol,and phloroglucinol)by MIZ-Cu was much higher than that of natural *** results also demonstrate exceptional removal rates in natural aquatic environments,thereby presenting a promising approach for the treatment of phenol-containing wastewater originating from industrial facilities.

Iris biometrics is a phenotypic biometric trait that has proven to be agnostic to human natural physiological *** on iris biometrics has progressed tremendously,partly due to publicly available iris *** databases have been available to researchers that address pressing iris biometric challenges such as constraint,mobile,multispectral,synthetics,long-distance,contact lenses,liveness detection,***,these databases mostly contain subjects of Caucasian and Asian docents with very few *** many investigative studies on racial bias in face biometrics,very few studies on iris biometrics have been published,mainly due to the lack of racially diverse large-scale databases containing sufficient iris samples of Africans in the public ***,most of these databases contain a relatively small number of subjects and labelled *** paper proposes a large-scale African database named Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Automation(CASIA)-Iris-Africa that can be used as a complementary database for the iris recognition community to mediate the effect of racial biases on *** database contains 28717 images of 1023 African subjects(2046 iris classes)with age,gender,and ethnicity attributes that can be useful in demographically sensitive studies of *** of specific application protocols are incorporated with the database to ensure the database’s variability and *** results of some open-source state-of-the-art(SOTA)algorithms on the database are presented,which will serve as baseline *** relatively poor performances of the baseline algorithms on the proposed database despite better performance on other databases prove that racial biases exist in these iris recognition algorithms.

Boosting Multi-modal Ocular Recognition via Spatial Feature Reconstruction and Unsupervised Image Quality Estimation

In hydraulic fracturing process, if fracture extension net pressure is greater than the difference of two horizontal stresses at both ends of the fracture and greater than the sum of the tensile strength at both side of rock soil, a main fracture will be converted into multiple split fractures which are considered as fracture network, a system formed by such interleaving. Technology which is used to realize such fracture network effect is hereby called as ＂fracture network＂ fracturing technique.

Pressure-induced ferroelectric and anti-ferroelectric phase transitions in LaN

In this work,we focus on the structural and electronic properties of lanthanum mono-nitride s under high *** on firstprinciples calculations and crystal structure predictions,we identified an anti-ferroelectric orthogonal phase with space group *** is predicted to be thermodynamically stable from 20 to 60 GPa,above which the tetragonal phase without the antiferroelectric distortion will substitute ***,the anti-ferroelectric distortion can be enhancedby reducing the pressure,and a phase transition to a NiAs-type(B8,P63/mmc) structure occurs at about 20 *** calculated double-well potential for La atoms along the c direction in the B8 phase reveals that it should exhibit ferroelectric properties at low *** calculations well confirm their phase transition sequences under high *** properties calculations suggest that all the newly identified phases are semiconductors and the corresponding structural distortions can increase their *** increasing the pressure to 50 GPa,the tetragonal phase undergoes a semiconductor-to-semimetal *** the spin-orbit coupling into account,the semimetal phase becomes a topological insulator with a small ***,given the similarities between the ionic compounds LaN and BaO,we predict that the most stable phase for BaO at about 25 GPa should also be the anti-ferroelectric orthogonal phase instead of the tetragonal phase.
