MDCT angiography to evaluate the therapeutic effect of PTVE for esophageal varices

Abstract AIM:To evaluate the role of multi-detector row computed tomography(MDCT) angiography for assessing the therapeutic effects of percutaneous transhepatic variceal embolization(PTVE) for esophageal varices(EVs).METHODS:The subjects of this prospective study were 156 patients who underwent PTVE with cyanoacrylate for *** were divided into three groups according to the filling range of cyanoacrylate in EVs and their feeding vessels:(1) group A,complete obliteration,with at least 3 cm of the lower EVs and peri-/EVs,as well as the adventitial plexus of the gastric cardia and fundus filled with cyanoacrylate;(2) group B,partial obliteration of varices surrounding the gastric cardia and fundus,with their feeding vessels being obliterated with cyanoacrylate,but without reaching lower EVs;and(3) group C,trunk obliteration,with the main branch of the left gastric vein being filled with cyanoacrylate,but without reaching varices surrounding the gastric cardia or *** performed chart reviews and a prospective follow-up using MDCT images,angiography,and gastrointestinal ***:The median follow-up period was 34 *** rate of eradication of varices for all patients was 56.4%(88/156) and the rate of relapse was 31.3%(41/131).The rates of variceal eradication at 1,3,and 5 years after PTVE were 90.2%,84.1% and 81.7%,respectively,for the complete group;61.2%,49% and 42.9%,respectively,for the partial group;with no varices disappearing in the trunk *** relapsefree rates at 1,3 and 5 years after PTVE were 91.5%,86.6% and 81.7%,respectively,for the complete group;71.1%,55.6% and 51.1%,respectively,for the partial group;and all EVs recurred in the trunk ***-Meier analysis showed P values of 0.000 and 0.000,and odds ratios of 3.824 and 3.603 for the rates of variceal eradication and relapse free rates,*** in EVs disappeared with time,but those in the EVs and other feeding vessels remained permanently in the vessels wit

Circulating myeloid-derived suppressor cells in patients with pancreatic cancer

BACKGROUND： Myeloid-derived suppressor cells （MDSCs） are heterogeneous cell types that suppress T-cell responses in cancer patients and animal models, some MDSC subpopulations are increased in patients with pancreatic cancer. The present study was to investigate a specific subset of MDSCs in patients with pancreatic cancer and the mechanism of MDSCs increase in these patients. METHODS： Myeloid cells from whole blood were collected from 37 patients with pancreatic cancer, 17 with cholangiocarcinoma, and 47 healthy controls. Four pancreatic cancer cell lines were co- cultured with normal peripheral blood mononudear cells （PBMCs） to test the effect of tumor cells on the conversion of PBMCs to MDSCs. Levels of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor （GM-CSF） and arginase activity in the plasma of cancer patients were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS： CD14＋/CD11b＋/HLA-DR MDSCs were increased in patients with pancreatic or bile duct cancer compared with those in healthy controls, and this increase was correlated with clinical cancer stage. Pancreatic cancer cell lines induced PBMCs to MDSCs in a dose-dependent manner. GM-CSF and arginase activity levels were significantly increased in the se rum of patients with pancreatic cancer. CONCLUSIONS： MDSCs were tumor related： tumor cells induced PBMCs to MDSCs in a dose-dependent manner and circulating CD14＋/CD11b＋/HLA-DR- MDSCs in pancreatic cancer patients were positively correlated with tumor burden. MDSCs might be useful markers for pancreatic cancer detection and progression.

Identification of novel and differentially expressed micro RNAs in ovine ovary and testis tissues using Solexa sequencing and bioinformatics

Micro RNAs（mi RNAs） are small, single stranded, non-coding RNA molecules, about 19–25 nucleotides in length, which regulate the development and functions of reproductive system of *** discover novel mi RNAs and identify the differential expression of them in ovine ovary and testis tissues, the study constructed two libraries by using next-generation sequencing technologies（Solexa high-throughput sequencing technique）.As a result, 9 321 775 and 9 511 538 clean reads were obtained from the ovary and testis separately, which included 130 562（90 genes of ovary） and 56 272（85 genes of testis） of known mi RNAs and 486 potential novel mi RNAs *** this study, a total of 65 conserved mi RNAs were significantly differentially expressed（P〈0.01） between the two *** them, 28 mi RNAs were up-regulated and 3 mi RNAs were down-regulated on ovary compared with *** addition, the known mi RNAs with the highest expression level（5 mi RNAs） and 30 novel mi RNAs with the functions related to reproduction were validated using the real-time quantitative ***, the gene ontology（GO） annotation and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes（KEGG） pathway analysis showed that differentially expressed mi RNAs were involved in ovary and testis physiology, including signal transduction, gonad development, sex differentiation, gematogenesis, fertilization and embryo *** results will be helpful to facilitate studies on the regulation of mi RNAs during ruminant reproduction.

The Tsinghua University-National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences （NAOC） Transient Survey is an automatic survey that conducts a systematic exploration of optical transients. This project utilizes a 60/90 cm Schmidt telescope at the Xinglong Station of NAOC. This survey repeatedly covers - 1000 square degrees of the northern sky with a cadence of 34 d. With an exposure of 60 s, the survey reaches a limiting unfiltered magnitude of about 19.5 mag, which enables us to discover supernovae in their relatively young stages. We describe the overall performance of our survey during the first year and present some preliminary results.

Dynamic interwell connectivity analysis of multi-layer waterflooding reservoirs based on an improved graph neural network

The analysis of interwell connectivity plays an important role in the formulation of oilfield development plans and the description of residual oil distribution. In fact, sandstone reservoirs in China's onshore oilfields generally have the characteristics of thin and many layers, so multi-layer joint production is usually adopted. It remains a challenge to ensure the accuracy of splitting and dynamic connectivity in each layer of the injection-production wells with limited field data. The three-dimensional well pattern of multi-layer reservoir and the relationship between injection-production wells can be equivalent to a directional heterogeneous graph. In this paper, an improved graph neural network is proposed to construct an interacting process mimics the real interwell flow regularity. In detail, this method is used to split injection and production rates by combining permeability, porosity and effective thickness, and to invert the dynamic connectivity in each layer of the injection-production wells by attention *** on the material balance and physical information, the overall connectivity from the injection wells,through the water injection layers to the production layers and the output of final production wells is established. Meanwhile, the change of well pattern caused by perforation, plugging and switching of wells at different times is achieved by updated graph structure in spatial and temporal ways. The effectiveness of the method is verified by a combination of reservoir numerical simulation examples and field example. The method corresponds to the actual situation of the reservoir, has wide adaptability and low cost, has good practical value, and provides a reference for adjusting the injection-production relationship of the reservoir and the development of the remaining oil.

Metal abundance and kinematical properties of the M81 globular cluster system

We present metal abundance properties of 144 globular clusters associated with M81. These globulars represent the largest globular cluster sample in M81 till now. Our main results are： the distribution of metallicities is bimodal, with metallicity peaks at [Fe/H] -1.51 and -0.58, and the metal-poor globular clusters tend to be less spatially concentrated than the metal-rich ones; the metal-rich globular clusters in M81 do not demonstrate a centrally concentrated spatial distribution like the metalrich ones in M31 do; like our Galaxy and M31, the globular clusters in M81 have a small radial metallicity gradient. These results are consistent with those obtained from a small sample of M81 globular clusters. In addition, this paper shows that there is evidence that a strong rotation of the M81 globular cluster system around the minor axis exists, and that rotation is present in the metal-rich globular cluster subsample, but the metal-poor globular cluster subsample shows no evidence of rotation. The most significant difference between the rotation of the metal-rich and metal-poor globular clusters occurs at intermediate projected galactocentric radii. Our results confirm the conclusion of Schroder et al. that M81＇s metal-rich globular clusters at intermediate projected radii are associated with a thick disk of M81.

Cotton maturity and responses to harvest aids following chemical topping with mepiquat chloride during bloom period

Early maturity, complete defoliation and boll opening are essential for the efficient machine harvesting of cotton. Chemical topping, involving one extra application of mepiquat chloride(MC) in addition to its traditional multipleapplication strategy, may be able to replace manual topping. However, it is not known whether this chemical topping technique will influence maturity or cotton responses to harvest aids. In this 2-yr field study, we determined the effects of the timing of chemical topping using various rates of MC on boll opening percentage(BOP) before application of harvest aids(50% thidiazuron··ethephon suspension concentrate, referred to as TE), and the defoliation percentage(DP) and BOP 14 days after TE application. The results indicated that late chemical topping(near the physiological cutout, when the nodes above white flower is equal to 5.0) significantly decreased BOP before TE by 5.9–11.2% compared with early(at peak bloom) or middle(seven days after peak bloom) treatments in 2019, which was a relatively normal year based on crop condition. Also, a high MC rate(270 g ha) showed a significantly lower(22.0%) BOP before TE than low(90 g ha) or medium(180 g ha) rates. In 2020, which was characterized by stronger vegetative growth in the late season, the late chemical topping reduced the number of leaves before TE application relative to early or middle treatments, but had lower DP(23.2–27.2%) 14 days after TE application. The high MC rate showed a leaf count before TE application that was similar to the low and medium rates, but it showed the most leaves after TE and much lower(15.0–21.7%) DP in 2020. These results suggest that late timing of chemical topping and a high MC rate decreased the sensitivity of leaves to harvest aids. Further analysis indicated that the late chemical topping mainly affected the leaf drop from the mainstem and fruiting branches where the late regrowth occurred, and the high MC rate reduced leaf shedding from these parts and

Effects of Al addition on bainite transformation and properties of high-strength carbide-free bainitic steels

The effects of aluminum addition on bainite transformation and properties of carbide-free bainitic steels containing 0.22 wt.% carbon were investigated by two different types of heat treatment processes: continuous cooling process (CCP) and isothermal transformation process (ITP). The results indicate that for the CCP treatment, Al addition significantly promoted the ferrite and bainite transformation;however, it did not significantly increase the product of tensile strength and total elongation (PSE). For the ITP treatment, Al addition significantly promoted the kinetics of bainite transformation, and thus, more bainite was formed with Al addition;however, it was found that Al addition resulted in a decrease in tensile strength and an increase in elongation of the tested bainitic steels. Moreover, the effects of Al addition on comprehensive property were profoundly dependent on austempering temperatures. When the austempering temperature was higher (430℃), PSE significantly increased with Al addition, whereas it decreased at the lower austempering temperature (400℃). Therefore, it can be concluded that the effects of Al on properties of bainitic steels were more significant at higher austempering temperatures.

The Role of Potential Structure in Excitation Functions of Synthesizing Superheavy Nuclei

The excitation functions of two very similar reaction channels, 58Fe＋ 208pb→ 265Hs ＋ 1n and 58Fe＋ 209Bi → 266Mt ＋1n are studied in the framework of the dinuclear system conception. The fusion probabilities are found to be strongly subject to the structure of the driving potential. Usually the fusion probability is hindered by a barrier from the injection channel towards the compound nuclear configuration. The barrier towards the mass symmetrical direction, however, also plays an important role for the fusion probability, because the barrier hinders the quasi-fission, and therefore helps fusion.
