First record of abnormal body coloration in a rockfish Sebastes koreanus(Scorpaenoidei:Sebastidae)from coastal water of China based on morphological characteristics and DNA barcoding

The first record of abnormal body coloration in Sebastes koreanus Kim and Lee,1994,from the Yellow Sea of China,was documented based on morphological characteristics and DNA barcoding.The two rockfish specimens were collected from the coastal waters of Qingdao,China,and the whole body and all fins of them were red.Of the two red-colored rockfish,there were tiny deep red spots on each fin,2 red radial stripes behind and below the eyes and 1 large deep red blotch on the opercula,while the similar stripe and spot patterns are also present in the S.koreanus specimens with normal body coloration.The countable characteristics of the two specimens are in the range of the morphometry of S.koreanus.To further clarify the species identity and taxonomic status of the two specimens,DNA barcode analysis was carried out.The genetic distance between the red-colored rockfish and S.koreanus was 0,and the minimum net genetic distances between the red-colored rockfish and other Sebastes species except for S.koreanus were 3.0%,which exceeds the threshold of species delimitation.The phylogenetic analysis showed that the DNA barcoding sequences of the two red-colored rockfish clustered with the S.koreanus sequences.The above results of DNA barcode analysis also support that the two red-colored rockfish could be identified as the species of S.koreanus.The mechanism of color variation in S.koreanus is desirable for further research and the species could be an ideal model to study the color-driven speciation of the rockfishes.

Powered by advanced information industry and intelligent technology,more and more complex systems are exhibiting characteristics of the cyber-physical-social systems(CPSS).And human factors have become crucial in the operations of complex social systems.Traditional mechanical analysis and social simulations alone are powerless for analyzing complex social systems.Against this backdrop,computational experiments have emerged as a new method for quantitative analysis of complex social systems by combining social simulation(e.g.,ABM),complexity science,and domain knowledge.However,in the process of applying computational experiments,the construction of experiment system not only considers a large number of artificial society models,but also involves a large amount of data and knowledge.As a result,how to integrate various data,model and knowledge to achieve a running experiment system has become a key challenge.This paper proposes an integrated design framework of computational experiment system,which is composed of four parts:generation of digital subject,generation of digital object,design of operation engine,and construction of experiment system.Finally,this paper outlines a typical case study of coal mine emergency management to verify the validity of the proposed framework.

Environmental benefits and farmers' adoption of winter cover crops in the North China Plain

The introduction of cover crops into monoculture systems to improve soil health has been widely adopted worldwide. However, little is known about the environmental risks and application prospects of different cover crops in spring maize(Zea mays L.) monocultures proposed in the North China Plain. A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of different winter cover crops on subsequent maize yield, soil fertility, and environmental risks of nitrogen(N) loss, and a questionnaire survey was conducted to examine factors influencing farmers' willingness to adopt cover crops in the North China Plain. Based on the same fertilization regime during the maize growing period, four winter cover crop treatments were set up, including bare fallow, hairy vetch(Vicia villosa Roth.), February orchid(Orychophragmus violaceus), and winter oilseed rape(Brassica campestris L.). The results indicated that winter cover crops significantly increased subsequent maize yield and soil organic carbon, total N, and microbial biomass carbon and N compared with the bare fallow treatment.The incorporation of cover crops led to a negligible increase in nitrous oxide(N_(2)O) emissions and had a very limited effect on ammonia(NH_(3)) emissions.The incorporation of February orchid and winter oilseed rape decreased nitrate leaching compared with the hairy vetch treatment in the maize growing season.The N losses via N_(2)O and NH_(3) emissions and N leaching accounted for 71%–84% of the N surplus. However, yield increase and environmental benefits were not the main positive factors for farmers to accept cover crops. Financial incentive was rated by 83.9% of farmers as an “extremely important” factor, followed by other costs, when considering winter cover cropping. These results indicate that the environmental benefits depend on the type of cover crop. Maintaining high levels of soil fertility and maize yield, providing sufficient subsidies, and encouraging large-area cultivation of cover crops are critical measures to promote winter cover c

A review of China’s overseas economic and trade cooperation zones along the Belt and Road:Progress and prospects

As a new mode for Chinese overseas investment and a growth pole for industrialization and urbanization of the host countries,the overseas economic and trade cooperation zone(OETCZ) or overseas free economic zone(OFEZ) of China plays an important role under the Belt and Road Initiative.With the rising attention on OETCZ,studies regarding OETCZ have also increased.However,there is a lack of studies reviewing this topic’s progress,challenges and future directions.This paper employs a systematic review to examine the literature on the OETCZ along the Belt and Road,based on domestic and overseas studies.The results show that domestic studies account for a large proportion of the collected literature,compared to overseas studies.Interdisciplinary research focus includes inductive case studies from a classification perspective,deductive studies based on cultural and institutional perspectives,trade network and bilateral trade relations based on the perspectives of international trade and regional economy,spatial planning studies from urban planning perspective,and overseas comments and earlier studies on Japan’s and Singapore’s overseas parks from the geopolitical and international political perspectives.Despite diverse research contents and dramatic progress,limitations exist in current OETCZ-related studies,including a lack of exploration of the mechanism,questions and concerns from overseas scholars,sustainable development and other problems.Future studies should broaden and deepen research insights,including the “overseas free economic zones(OFEZ)” as a general designation to cover all other types of OETCZs,studies on the primary conditions of host countries,exploration of the theoretical issues behind China’s OETCZ,comparative study of OETCZs such as management structures,profit models,environmental standards and legal systems as well as popular issues questioned internationally.

Autophagy plays a pro-apoptotic role in arsenic trioxide-induced cell death of liver cancer

Objective: The effects of arsenic trioxide(As2O3) on hepatocellular carcinoma have been documented widely. Autophagy plays dual roles in the survival and death of cancer cells. Therefore, we investigated the exact role of autophagy in As2O3-induced apoptosis in liver cancer cells.Methods: The viability of hepatoma cells was determined using the MTT assay with or without fetal bovine serum. The rate of apoptosis in liver cancer cells treated with As2O3was evaluated using flow cytometry, Hoechst 33258 staining, and TUNEL assays. The rate of autophagy among liver cancer cells treated with As2O3was detected using immunofluorescence, Western blot assay and transmission electron microscopy.Results: Upon treatment with As2O3, the viability of HepG2 and SMMC-7721 cells was decreased in a time-and dose-dependent manner. The apoptosis rates of both liver cancer cell lines increased with the concentration of As2O3, as shown by flow cytometry. Apoptosis in liver cancer cells treated with As2O3was also shown by the activation of the caspase cascade and the regulation of Bcl-2/Bax expression.Furthermore, As2O3treatment induced autophagy in liver cancer cells;this finding was supported by Western blot, immunofluorescence of LC3-II and beclin 1, and transmission electron microscopy. In liver cancer cells, As2O3inhibited the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin(PI3K/AKT/mTOR) signal pathway that plays a vital role in both apoptosis and autophagy. The PI3K activator SC-79 partially reversed As2O3-induced autophagy and apoptosis. Furthermore, inhibiting autophagy with 3-methyladenine partially reversed the negative effects of As2O3on cell viability.Serum starvation increased autophagy and amplified the effect of As2O3on cell death.Conclusion: As2O3induces apoptosis and autophagy in liver cancer cells. Autophagy induced by As2O3may have a proapoptotic effect that helps to reduce the viability of liver cancer cells. This study provides novel insights into the effects of As2O3against liver cancer.

Thermal barrier coatings(TBCs)in gas turbine engines are used in expressly harsh environments;thus,assessing TBC integrity status is critical for safety and reliability.However,traditional periodic maintenance involves visual inspections of the TBCs,requiring the gas turbine to be decommissioned and partially dismantled.Most importantly,tiny defects or internal damages that easily cause coating failure cannot be identified.In this work,a new nondestructive evaluation(NDE)technique of TBCs based on quantum dot(QD)anion exchange is first explored internationally.By exchanging anions between the Cl ions and the CsPbBr_(3) QDs,the degrees of salt corrosion of the TBCs are evaluated.The resultant NDE technique shows that the colour of the TBCs obviously changes from green to blue,accompanied by a large blueshift(~100 nm)of the photoluminescence(PL)peak position.In addition,the relationship between the PL peak position and coating thermophysical properties indicates that the precision of this NDE technique may easily identify theμm-level of the thermal growth oxide(TGO)changes inside the TBCs.

Single-base editing in IGF2 improves meat production and intramuscular fat deposition in Liang Guang Small Spotted pigs

Background Chinese indigenous pigs are popular with consumers for their juiciness,flavour and meat quality,but they have lower meat production.Insulin-like growth factor 2(IGF2) is a maternally imprinted growth factor that promotes skeletal muscle growth by regulating cell proliferation and differentiation.A single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) within intron 3 of porcine IGF2 disrupts a binding site for the repressor,zinc finger BED-type containing 6(ZBED6),leading to up-regulation of IGF2 and causing major effects on muscle growth,heart size,and backfat thickness.This favorable mutation is common in Western commercial pig populations,but absent in most Chinese indigenous pig breeds.To improve meat production of Chinese indigenous pigs,we used cytosine base editor 3(CBE3)to introduce IGF2 intron3-C3071T mutation into porcine embryonic fibroblasts(PEFs) isolated from a male Liang Guang Small Spotted pig(LGSS),and single-cell clones harboring the desired mutation were selected for somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT) to generate the founder line of IGF2^(T/T) pigs.Results We found the heterozygous progeny IGF2^(C/T) pigs exhibited enhanced expression of IGF2,increased lean meat by 18%-36%,enlarged loin muscle area by 3%-17%,improved intramuscular fat(IMF) content by 18%-39%,marbling score by 0.75-1,meat color score by 0.53-1.25,and reduced backfat thickness by 5%-16%.The enhanced accumulation of intramuscular fat in IGF2^(C/T) pigs was identified to be regulated by the PI3K-AKT/AMPK pathway,which activated SREBP1 to promote adipogenesis.Conclusions We demonstrated the introduction of IGF2-intron3-C3071T in Chinese LGSS can improve both meat production and quality,and first identified the regulation of IMF deposition by IGF2 through SREBP1 via the PI3KAKT/AMPK signaling pathways.Our study provides a further understanding of the biological functions of IGF2and an example for improving porcine economic traits through precise base editing.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common multifactorial skin disease characterized by chronic inflammation， unbearable itching， and significant physical and mental burden on patients. In recent years， there has been extensive studied on the use of natural polysaccharides in anti-inflammatory therapy， due to their low toxicity and multi-target pharmacological activity. The unique biological activities of polysaccharides from natural sources as functional food additives and cosmeceuticals present a new option for the treatment of AD. This review aims to summarize the pathogenesis of AD， the therapeutic effects， and the mechanisms of natural polysaccharides， as well as discuss the limitations and prospects of these compounds in the treatment of AD. The insights provided in this review can serve as references and inspiration for the development of applications of natural polysaccharides in the treatment of AD.

Plant-based milk alleviates antibiotics-induced intestinal barrier damage associated with modulation of gut microbiome and metabolome

Plant-based milk is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids， polyphenols and other bioactive compounds. This study investigated the effect of three plant-based milk (flaxseed milk， oat milk and soy milk) on the ceftriaxone-induced intestinal disorders， and compared the regulation patterns associated with gut microbiome and metabolome. The results showed plant-based milk alleviated the ceftriaxone caused cecum swelling， colonic tissue damage and intestinal microecological disorders. Meanwhile， administered plant-based milk decreased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine (tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α)， interleukin (IL-6)， interleukin (IL-1β) and oxidative stresses (malondialdehyde (MDA) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the colon， as well as increasing the levels of tight junction proteins (Occludin， Claudin-1， and ZO-1) in the colon. Moreover， administration of plant-based milk modulated the intestinal microbiota by promoting the relative levels of beneficial bacteria (Bifidobacterium)， and inhibiting the harmful bacteria genus (Enterococcus). Furthermore， plant-based milk treatment significantly modulated glycerophospholipids metabolism (e.g. glycerophosphocholine) and arachidonic acid metabolism (e.g. prostaglandin G2 and arachidonic acid) in the serum. In conclusion， plant-based milk could alleviate antibiotic-related imbalance of barrier function damage， gut microbiota disorders and the reduction of metabolic disorders， which lays a foundation for exploring anti-inflammatory and intestinal micro-ecological approach to plant-based milk.

利用基体稀释的方法,实现稀土氧化物中稀土总量(REO)及稀土配分量(REX/REO)的成分含量控制,使其满足与碳酸稀土和氯化稀土等产品REO成分一致的标准样品候选物要求。通过对稀释剂材料的理论分析和相关试验研究,选择NaCl晶体作为掺杂基体,稀释由La_(2)O_(3),CeO_(2),Pr_(6)O_(11)和Nd_(2)O_(3)等单一稀土氧化物组成的混合物,再通过研磨、混料,制备成满足定值要求的标准样品候选物((LaCe)_(x)O_(y))和(PrNd)_(x)O_(y))。以混合稀土氧化物标准样品(GSB 04-3064-2013)的粒度和扫描电镜(SEM)数据作为参考,研究了标准样品候选物的均匀性和稳定性,有效控制了候选物的REO和REX/REO与自主设计的标准值一致,对比分析了稀土氧化物标准样品和基体掺杂标准样品候选物的粒度和SEM图像,表征了候选物的均匀性和稳定性,形成了RE_(x)O_(y)中REO及REX/REO成分标准样品制备方法,所制备的(LaCe)_(x)O_(y)和(PrNd)_(x)O_(y)中REO分别为38.80%和29.58%。该制备方法适用于同类标准样品的研制,对控制成分标准样品的研制有参考意义。
