A systematic experimental study was conducted on the similarities and differences in the reactions between commonly used rare earth elements(REEs)and frequently used refractories in the steelmaking *** results indicate that the reaction behaviors of La,Ce,and Y with MgO,Al_(2)O_(3),and MgO·Al_(2)O_(3) crucibles differed *** consumption rates of La,Ce,and Y in the molten steel were in descending order of La>Ce>Y for smelting with all three kinds of *** the REEs reacted with the crucible,the contents of Mg and Al showed a trend of first increasing and then *** laboratory-scale smelting conditions,the reactions related to REEs were dominated by steel-crucible reactions,and the contact area between the unit mass of molten steel and refractory materials mainly determined the consumption rates of ***-and Ce-crucible reactions generated loose and porous reaction interfaces;however,Y-crucible reactions generated a dense Y_(2)O_(3) layer,dramatically suppressing the consumption rate of *** calculation indicated that the reactions between rare earth and different refractory materials were first-order *** crucible materials significantly affected the product type and morphology of the steel-crucible reaction interfaces,thereby influencing the consumption rate of *** reactions between REEs and refractories must be seriously considered,especially for small-scale smelting.

Different chemical compositions of soil organic carbon(SOC)affect its persistence and whether it signifi-cantly differs between natural forests and plantations remains *** synthesizing 234 observations of SOC chemical compositions,we evaluated global patterns of concentra-tion,individual chemical composition(alkyl C,O-alkyl C,aromatic C,and carbonyl C),and their distribution *** results indicate a notably higher SOC,a markedly larger proportion of recalcitrant alkyl C,and lower easily decomposed carbonyl C proportion in natural ***-ever,SOC chemical compositions were appreciably more evenly distributed in *** on the assumed con-ceptual index of SOC chemical composition evenness,we deduced that,compared to natural forests,plantations may have higher possible resistance to SOC decomposition under *** tropical regions,SOC levels,recalcitrant SOC chemical composition,and their distributed evenness were significantly higher in natural forests,indicating that SOC has higher chemical stability and possible resistance to *** factors had minor effects on alkyl C in forests globally,while they notably affected SOC chemi-cal composition in tropical *** could contribute to the differences in chemical compositions and their distrib-uted evenness between plantations and natural stands.

The fluoroalkyl fragment plays a vital role in various fields such as pharmaceuticals and materials science, and has a significant impact on human life not only on the present but also in the future. The insertion of fluoroalkyl groups into the chemical skeletons can cause considerable alternations in the chemical, physical and biological properties of molecules, which has attracted numerous scientists from different fields. This review focuses on n-heterocyclic carbene(nHC)-catalyzed fluoroalkylation reactions, providing a detailed analysis and summary of the achievements in the past two decades. Many successful examples clearly indicate that nHCs can catalyze the tranformation of fluoroalkylation reagents with various electronic characteristics, whether electrophilic, nucleophilic, or radical precursors. Herein, the fluoroalkylation reactions are classified based on different catalytic modes of nHCs: Lewis base catalysis, Umploung catalysis, radical catalysis and others. Meanwhile, by refining and systematically studying the contribution of nHC catalysis in fluoroalkylation reactions, this review is expected to provide valuable insights and enlightenment for related fields.

Capacitive mixing is a promising blue energy technology due to its membrane-free electricity generation and long electrode life ***,because of limited performance,existing systems do not lend themselves to practical *** it is a crucial factor directly influencing electrode behavior,surface chemistry has largely been overlooked in capacitive ***,we show that manipulating surface functionalization alone can tune the responses of electrodes to produce a high voltage rise without altering the pore structure of the *** findings reveal that the spontaneous electrode potential of a surface-modified carbon electrode shifts negatively proportional to the surface charge due to the surface groups,which explains why and how manipulating the surface chemistry can improve the power generation capacity.

The“2+26”cities,suffering the most severe winter haze pollution,have been the key region for air quality improvement in *** prominent nitrate pollution is one of the most challenging environmental issues in this region,necessitating development of an effective control ***,we use observations,and state-of-the-art model simulations with scenario analysis and process analysis to quantify the effectiveness of the future SO_(2)-nO_(X)-VOC-nH_(3) emission control on nitrate pollution mitigation in“2+26”*** on a serious winter haze episode,we find that limited nO_(X)emission reduction alone in the short-term period is a less effective choice than VOC or nH_3emission reduction alone to decrease nitrate concentrations,due to the accelerated nO_(X)-HnO_(3)conversion by atmospheric oxidants and the enhanced HnO_(3)to nO_(3)^(-)partition by ammonia,although deep nO_(X)emission reduction is essential in the long-term *** synergistic nH_(3) and VOC emission control is strongly recommended,which can counteract the adverse effects of nonlinear photochemistry and aerosol chemical feedback to decrease nitrate *** extra benefits will be reduced if the synergistic nH_(3) and VOC reduction is delayed,and thus reducing emission of multiple precursors is urgently required for the effective control of increasingly severe winter nitrate pollution in“2+26”cities.

Physical properties such as the conductivity are usually classified according to the symmetry of the underlying system using neumann’s principle, which gives an upper bound for the number of independent components of the corresponding property tensor. However, for a given Hamiltonian, this global approach usually can not give a definite answer on whether a physical effect such as spin Hall effect (SHE) exists or not. It is found that the parity and types of spin-orbit interactions (SOIs) are good indicators that can further reduce the number of independent components of the spin Hall conductivity for a specific system. In terms of the parity as well as various Rashba-like and Dresselhaus-like SOIs, we propose a local approach to classify SHE in two-dimensional (2D) two-band models, where sufficient conditions for identifying the existence or absence of SHE in all 2D magnetic point groups are presented.
