A difference scheme with four conservation properties for solving the spherical barotropic shallow water equations is constructed, based on a proper formulae of the equations and a skillful correction on the spatial difference parts of the semi-discrete equations with which the number of the conservation properties of these equations is increased from three to four. Numerical tests are included, and good results are achieved in this study.

Taking one-dimensional shallow water wave equation as an example, a comparative analysis on the computational stability related to the short-range motion of atmosphere and ocean is carried out for the conservative and nonconservative scheme, and it is pointed out that the computational stability of conservative scheme is absolutely different from that of the nonconservative scheme. The relationship between the short-range motion of atmosphere and ocean and the conservative and nonconservative scheme is further discussed. The constructed conservative scheme is proved to be stable by the numerical experiment for the short-range motion of atmosphere and ocean while the CTCS scheme is unstable. So that the conservative scheme for the solution of this kind of problem has more advantages.

It is revealed that there happened a large am-plitude wintertime temperature anomaly reversion event(LTAR) in Northern Hemisphere high latitude regions andSouth Australia for the year 2003 versus 2002, with the mostnotable change in Eurasia, eastern North America, NorthPacific, and South Australia. The accompanying atmosphericgeneral circulation anomalies are analyzed and the dominantchanges in the circulation arc found out. The anomalouscyclonic eddies over the north Pacific and the anomalousanticyclonic eddies over North Europe that cooperate eachother are mostly linked with the event. Both anomalous eddysystems are connected with the remote teleconnection pat-terns respectively. The research also suggests the existence ofa cross-equator teleconnection pattern, namely, the NorthernPacific-Western Pacific-Australia teleconnection pattern(NPWPA). It is not only related to LTAR, but also associatedwith the temperature transition from cold episode to warmepisode in the year 2003 versus 2002 during Decem-ber-January-February.

Using the nine-level atmospheric General Circulation Model developed at the institute of atmospheric physics (IAP9L-AGCM) under the chinese academy of sciences, 30-year extraseasonal short-term ensemble hincast of winter climate is performed, with integrations starting from annual autumn during 1969—1998. Winter climate predictability over china is then evaluated for the first time. It follows that the predictability is higher in tropics than in extratropics. Also, it is higher over ocean compared with land, especially for surface air temperature. With height increasing in troposphere, the predictability of geopotential height slightly changes zonally, but for weakening of band-ship distribution and dropping near the date line. Of all analyzed variables, the prediction skill of air temperature and geopotential height (precipitation) is the highest (smallest). In addition, the predictability of winter climate over china and even East Asia enhances obviously during ENSO cycle, especially during La Nia phase. Simulation comparison against verifying analysis for surface temperature anomaly exhibits the model抯 skill in predicting surface temperature抯 interannual variation trend in winter.

The features of Gregory cumulus parameterization scheme, which is used in British Weather Office, are researched and then this scheme is developed and improved according to the characteristics of area precipitation over china. Firstly, the influence of the large-scale convergence in lower tropopause upon cumulus convection is directly taken into account in a 揵ulk?cloud model. The organized entrainment and detrainment is considered in the model. Secondly, the initial mass flux is revised. Thirdly, the effects of subcooling water upon saturation vapour pressure are considered. Eventually, the drown-draft air is regulated. For several years, the numerical forecast of seasonal precipitation in china has been carried out by using the modified Gregory scheme. The result shows that the model with improved Gregory scheme well simulates the precipitation over china and the prediction result is good.

A new method for calculating the clear day total ozone amount was obtained by the regression analysis of the observation data of ozone,solar UV radiation, and meteorological *** this method the monthly mean total ozone amounts for the year 1991 in beijing were calculated. Generally, the calculated values agree well with the Dobson spectrophotometer measurements, the average relative deviation between them being less than 2. 2%. According to the F-test,the photochemical reactions in the atmosphere,the solar UV radiation,and the aerosols are three most important factors to affect the column total ozone amount.

An obvious trend shift in the annual mean and winter mixed layer depth(MLD)in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current(ACC)region was detected during the 1960–2021 *** trends stopped in mid-1980s,followed by a period of weak *** MLD deepening trend difference between the two periods were mainly distributed in the western areas in the Drake Passage,the areas north to Victoria Land and Wilkes Land,and the central parts of the South Indian *** newly formed ocean current shear due to the meridional shift of the ACC flow axis between the two periods is the dominant driver for the MLD trends shift distributed in the western areas in the Drake Passage and the central parts of the South Indian *** saltier trends in the regions north to Victoria Land and Wilkes Land could be responsible for the strengthening mixing processes in this region.

In this paper, taking the 2+1-dimensional sine-Gordon equation as an example, we present the concatenating method to construct the multisymplectic schemes. The method is to discretizee independently the PDEs in different directions with symplectic schemes, so that the multisymplectic schemes can be constructed by concatenating those symplectic schemes. By this method, we can construct multisymplectic schemes, including some widely used schemes with an accuracy of any order. The numerical simulation on the collisions of solitons are also proposed to illustrate the efficiency of the multisymplectic schemes.

Based on the biological action spectra and total UV-B radiation in the atmosphere,the effective UV-dose for DNA, erythema,and plant at different seasons in the last decade,and their future change in beijing area were *** results indicate that the maxi- mum of biologically effective radiation dose at noontime is in July and the minimum is in January. From 1980 to 1989 biologically effective radiation dose have increased with the average rates of about 0.6,0.7 and 1.1 mW/m￣2 per year for January, April and October,while in July the trend of radiation dose is not ln evidence. For 1% reduction of ozone concentration radiation amplification factor for DNA,erythema and plant are 2.3,2.3 and 1.4 and for 30% reduction of ozone concentration the RAF for DNA,erythema and plant are 4.2,4.0 and 2.1,respectively.
