The 3-D turbulent flows in a valve pipe were described by the incompressibleReynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with an RNG k-ε turbulence model. With the finite volumemethod and a body-fitted coordinate system, the discretised equations were solved by the SIMPLESTalgorithm. The numerical result of a cut-off valve with curved inlet shows the flow characteristicsand the main cause of energy loss when fluid flows through a valve. And then, the boundaries ofvalve were modified in order to reduce the energy loss. The computational results of modified valveshow that the numerical value of turbulent kinetic energy is lower, and that the modified design ofthe 3-D valve boundaries is much better. The analysis of the result also shows that RNG k-εturbulence model can successfully be used to predict the 3-D turbulent separated flows and thesecondary flow inside valve pipes.

The effects of adding Al(i-C_4H_9)_3 (TBA) to rac-Me2Si(Ind)2ZrCl2/ mao catalyzed propylene-1-octene copolymerization were studied. At TBA /mao (Al/AI mole ratio) of about 0.6, the polymerization activity was found to be much higher than the system without TBA. Increases of polymer molecular weight and 1-octene content from addition of TBA were also observed.

An infinite slope stability numerical model driven by the comprehensive physically-based integrated hydrology model(InHM) is *** this approach,the failure plane is assumed to be parallel to the hydraulic gradient instead of the slope *** method helps with irregularities in complex terrain since depressions and flat areas are allowed in the *** present model has been tested for two synthetic single slopes and a small catchment in the Mettman Ridge study area in Oregon,United States,to estimate the shallow landslide *** results show that the present approach can reduce the simulation error of hydrological factors caused by the rolling topography and depressions,and is capable of estimating spatial-temporal variations for landslide susceptibilities at simple slopes as well as at catchment scale,providing a valuable tool for the prediction of shallow landslides.

Aim:To determine whether the anti-inflammatory effect of minocycline on postis-chemic brain injury is mediated by the inhibition of 5-lipoxygenase （5-LOX）expression and enzymatic activation in ***:Focal cerebral ischemiawas induced for 30 min with middle cerebral artery occlusion,followed *** ischemic injuries,endogenous IgG exudation,the accumulationof neutrophils and macrophage/microglia,and 5-LOX mRNA expression weredetermined 72 h after reperfusion.5-LOX metabolites （leukotriene B4and cysteinylleukotrienes） were measured 3 h after ***:Minocycline （22.5and 45 mg/kg,ip,for 3 d） attenuated ischemic injuries,IgG exudation,and theaccumulation of neutrophils and macrophage/microglia 72 h after *** inhibited 5-LOX expression 72 h after reperfusion and the production ofleukotrienes 3 h after reperfusion,Conclusion:Minocycline inhibited postis-chemic brain inflammation,which might be partly mediated by the inhibition of5-LOX expression and enzymatic activation.

Background:Sepsis,a type of systemic disease,can impact nearly all organs,tissues and *** them,endothelial cells are amongst theﬁrst to be affected and respond to the *** this study,we investigated the protective effects of microRNA-30a-5p(miR-30a-5p)on human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells(HPMECs)treated with lipolysaccharide(LPS).Methods:An in vitro model of sepsis was established in HPMECs with the use of *** with different tools(mimetic and inhibitor)to modify miR-30a-5p *** viability,proliferation and apoptosis were detected by the CCK-8 assay,the EdU kit andﬂuorescence staining,*** autophagy-related protein and mRNA expression,the number of autophagosomes were separately examined through Western blot analysis,qPT-PCR and confocal *** and the luciferase reporter assays were used to probe target genes interacting with ***:LPS caused a reduction in the viability and proliferation of HPMECs,as well as an elevation in the number of apoptotic ***,we observed that miR-30a-5p might play a role in preventing LPS-induced inhibition of cell damage and decreasing HPMEC apoptosis,suggesting the potential function of miR-30a-5p in this injury ***,we conﬁrmed that miR-30a-5p exerts its protective effect by regulating cell autophagy,possibly by targeting ***:Our study provided evidence that autophagy is a crucial aspect in the protective role of miR-30a-5p against LPS-induced HPMEC injury,identifying a promising target for sepsis-related endothelial cell injury.

A novel method was established to investigate the gelation process of polymers. The change of refractive index of a polymer system during gelation was determined in situ in a prismatic cell. It can give reliable information on the whole gelation process. The apparatus and the execution of this technique are illustrated and the error is also discussed.

BACKGROUND: Active immunotherapy has been successful in preventing many infectious diseases, and is being explored for its anti-tumor use. Purified antigens, peptides, gene-based systems and antigens contained in whole cells or cell lysates are used in specific active immunotherapy for cancer, known as cancer vaccines. Cancer vaccines do not directly kill tumor cells, but prime a specific humoral and/or cellular immune response against the tumor. Up to date, many kinds of cancer vaccines have been tested in the world and have shown their own advantages. Heat shock protein (HSP)-based cancer vaccine is one of the outstanding representatives. In this paper, we review recent advances in HSP-based cancer vaccines. DATA SOURCES: An English-language literature search was conducted using MEDLINE (1990-2005) on HSP, cancer vaccines and other related subjects. RESULTS: Several kinds of HSP-based cancer vaccines which have been explored worldwide, include tumor derived HSP-pepdde complex cancer vaccines, artificially reconstituted HSP-peptide complex cancer vaccines, HSPpeptide fusion protein cancer vaccines and HSP-based DNA cancer vaccines, etc. Many HSP-based cancer vaccines are being tested in clinical trials, and some are being tested in phase Ⅲ clinical trials at present. CONCLUSION: The available results in preclinical tests and clinical trials indicate that HSP-based cancer vaccines are promising in cancer therapy.

Hemostatic hydrogels are widely applied for wound management of damaged tissues,traumatic wounds,and surgical *** hydrogels composed of bioactive components,including fibrin and thrombin,showed great promise in the clinic due to their good pro-coagulation *** the expanding knowledge of cascade reaction of blood coagulation and emerging bioactive substances,massive bioactive hydrogels consisting of peptides,hemocoagulase,polyphosphate(polyP),etc.,have been developed as effective hemostatic *** on the coagulation process and mechanism,we summarize the role of reported bioactive hydrogels in hemostasis in this *** conclude the key points in the coagulation process,including activation of coagulation factors,fibrinogen polymerization,etc.,then discuss how to design bioactive hydrogels to accelerate coagulation targeted to these ***,we conclude the progress and propose a perspective of bioactive hydrogels with a pro-coagulation effect for hemostasis.
