An Index geographic gossip(IGG)algorithm is proposed. Relay nodes participate in information exchange and updating. The cumulative number of times these nodes participate is characterized by an index number, which can be used to accelerate information updating. The convergence property of the IGG algorithm is theoretically analyzed in ring and grid network topologies. The IGG algorithm improves the standard gossip algorithm by a gain of O(n) in both convergence time and communication cost. Compared to the geographic gossip algorithm, the IGG algorithm has a gain on the order of O(n) and O(n1/2) in the average hop count for information exchange and communication cost, respectively. Finally, the proposed IGG algorithm is compared with various baselines through simulations,and it is shown that significant performance gain can be achieved.

There are two famous function decomposition methods in math:the Taylor series and the Fourier series.The Fourier series developed into the Fourier spectrum,which was applied to signal decomposition and analysis.However,because the Taylor series function cannot be solved without a definite functional expression,it has rarely been used in engineering.We developed a Taylor series using our proposed dendrite net(DD),constructed a relation spectrum,and applied it to decomposition and analysis of models and systems.Specifically,knowledge of the intuitive link between muscle activity and finger movement is vital for the design of commercial prosthetic hands that do not need user pre-training.However,this link has yet to be understood due to the complexity of the human hand.In this study,the relation spectrum was applied to analyze the muscle—finger system.One single muscle actuates multiple fingers,or multiple muscles actuate one single finger simultaneously.Thus,the research was focused on muscle synergy and muscle coupling for the hand.The main contributions are twofold:(1)The findings concerning the hand contribute to the design of prosthetic hands;(2)The relation spectrum makes the online model human-readable,which unifies online performance and offline results.Code is available at https://***/liugang1234567/gang-neuron.

Surface waves have a considerable effect on vertical mixing in the upper ocean.In the past two decades,the vertical mixing induced through nonbreaking surface waves has been used in ocean and climate models to improve the simulation of the upper ocean.Thus far,several nonbreaking wave-induced mixing parameterization schemes have been proposed;however,no quantitative comparison has been performed among them.In this paper,a one-dimensional ocean model was used to compare the performances of five schemes,including those of Qiao et al.(Q),Hu and wang(HW),Huang and Qiao(HQ),Pleskachevsky et al.(P),and Ghantous and Babanin(GB).Similar to previous studies,all of these schemes can decrease the simulated sea surface temperature(SST),increase the subsurface temperature,and deepen the mixed layer,thereby alleviating the common thermal deviation problem of the ocean model for upper ocean simulation.Among these schemes,the HQ scheme exhibited the weakest wave-induced mixing effect,and the HW scheme exhibited the strongest effect;the other three schemes exhibited roughly the same effect.In particular,the Q and P schemes exhibited nearly the same effect.In the simulation based on observations from the Ocean Weather Station Papa,the HQ scheme exhibited the best performance,followed by the Q scheme.In the experiment with the HQ scheme,the root-mean-square deviation of the simulated SST from the observations was 0.43℃,and the mixed layer depth(MLD)was 2.0 m.As a contrast,the deviations of the SST and MLD reached 1.25℃ and 8.4 m,respectively,in the experiment without wave-induced mixing.

Nowadays,the advancement of nonintrusive load monitoring(NILM)has been hastened by the ever-increasing requirements for the reasonable use of electricity by users and demand side management.Although existing researches have tried their best to extract a wide variety of load features based on transient or steady state of electrical appliances,it is still very difficult for their algorithm to model the load decomposition problem of different electrical appliance types in a targeted manner to jointly mine their proposed features.This paper presents a very effective event-driven NILM solution,which aims to separately model different appliance types to mine the unique characteristics of appliances from multi-dimensional features,so that all electrical appliances can achieve the best classification performance.First,we convert the multi-classification problem into a serial multiple binary classification problem through a pre-sort model to simplify the original problem.Then,ConTrastive Loss K-Nearest Neighbour(CTLKNN)model with trainable weights is proposed to targeted mine appliance load characteristics.The simulation results show the effectiveness and stability of the proposed algorithm.Compared with existing algorithms,the proposed algorithm has improved the identification performance of all electrical appliance types.

Dear Editor, The main components of multi-view geometry and computer vision are robust pose estimation and feature matching. This letter discusses how to recover two-view geometry and match features between a pair of images, and presents MCNet(a multiscale clustering network) as an algorithm for extracting multiscale features. It can identify the true inliers from the established putative correspondences, where outliers may degenerate the geometry estimation. In particular, the proposed MCNet is based on graph clustering.

Size reduction can generally enhance the surface reactivity of inorganic nanomaterials.The origin of this nano-effect has been ascribed to ultrasmall size,large specific surface area,or abundant defects,but the most intrinsic electronic-level principles are still not fully understood yet.By combining experimental explorations and mathematical modeling,herein we propose an electronic-level model to reveal the physicochemical nature of size-dependent nanomaterial surface reactivity.Experimentally,we reveal that competitive redistribution of surface atomic orbitals from extended energy band states into localized surface chemical bonds is the critical electronic process of surface chemical interactions,using H_(2)O_(2)-TiO_(2)chemisorption as a model reaction.Theoretically,we define a concept,orbital potential(G),to describe the electronic feature determining the tendency of orbital redistribution,and deduce a mathematical model to reveal how size modulates surface reactivity.We expose the dual roles of size reduction in enhancing nanomaterial surface reactivity-inversely correlating to orbital potential and amplifying the effects of other structural factors on surface reactivity.

In this paper,a new machine learning(ML)model combining conditional generative adversarial networks(CGANs)and active learning(AL)is proposed to predict the body-centered cubic(BCC)phase,face-centered cubic(FCC)phase,and BCC+FCC phase of high-entropy alloys(HEAs).Considering the lack of data,CGANs are introduced for data augmentation,and AL can achieve high prediction accuracy under a small sample size owing to its special sample selection strategy.Therefore,we propose an ML framework combining CGAN and AL to predict the phase of HEAs.The arithmetic optimization algorithm(AOA)is introduced to improve the artificial neural network(ANN).AOA can overcome the problem of falling into the locally optimal solution for the ANN and reduce the number of training iterations.The AOA-optimized ANN model trained by the AL sample selection strategy achieved high prediction accuracy on the test set.To improve the performance and interpretability of the model,domain knowledge is incorporated into the feature selection.Additionally,considering that the proposed method can alleviate the problem caused by the shortage of experimental data,it can be applied to predictions based on small datasets in other fields.

In seismology and earthquake engineering,it is fundamental to identify and characterize the pulse-like features in pulse-type ground motions.To capture the pulses that dominate structural responses,this study establishes congruence and shift relationships between response spectrum surfaces.A similarity search between spectrum surfaces,supplemented with a similarity search in time series,has been applied to characterize the pulse-like features in pulse-type ground motions.The identified pulses are tested in predicting the rocking consequences of slender rectangular blocks under the original ground motions.Generally,the prediction is promising for the majority of the ground motions where the dominant pulse is correctly identified.
