Mixed B-site ruddlesden-popper phase Sr_(2)(Ru_(x)Ir_(1-x))O_(4) enables enhanced activity for oxygen evolution reaction

Development of high performance electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in acidic media remains a challenge for direct water splitting using an ***,Ruddlesden-Popper phase Sr_(2)IrO_(4)was discovered to be an efficient OER catalyst because of its unique structure,which consists of layers of both rock salt and perovskite phases *** this study,we prepared a series of B-site mixed,Ruddlesden-Popper phase of Sr_(2)(Ru_(x)Ir_(1-x))O_(4) and examined their electrocatalytic properties for OER in acidic *** partial substitution of Ru in the B-site of Ruddlesden-Popper phase materials,we achieved much enhanced OER performance for this series of Sr_(2)(Ru_(x)Ir_(1-x))O_(4)electrocatalysts,among which Sr_(2)(Ru_(0.5)Ir_(0.5))O_(4)exhibited the best catalytic activity with a current density of 8.06 m A/cm^(2) at 1.55 V and a Tafel slope of 47 m V/*** current density is three times higher than that of Sr_(2)Ir O_(4).The B-site mixed Sr_(2)(Ru_(0.5)Ir_(0.5))O_(4)retained good stability in acidic conditions for>24 h at 10 m A/cm^(2).A range of techniques were used to characterize the crystal and electronic structures of the Sr_(2)(Ru_(x)Ir_(1-x))O_(4)*** data indicate that the improved OER performance can be correlated to the formation of high level of hydroxyl groups and the enhanced overlap between Ir/Ru 4d and O_(2)p orbitals,revealing a new way for the design of efficient OER electrocatalysts by regulating their composition and electronic structures.

Multifunctional mesoporous bioactive glass/upconversion nanoparticle nanocomposites with strong red emission to monitor drug delivery and stimulate osteogenic differentiation of stem cells

For the therapy and regeneration of bone defects resulting from malignant bone tumors, it is necessary to develop multifunctional biomaterials that are able to deliver therapeutic drugs, monitor drug release, and stimulate bone formation. Herein, a multifunctional mesoporous bioactive glass （MBG）/upconversion nanoparticle （UCNP） nanocomposite [UCNPs@SiO2@mSiO2-XCa （X = 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20）] with the ability to deliver anti-cancer drugs, monitor drug release, and stimulate osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow stromal cells （BMSCs） was successfully prepared using a layer-by-layer strategy. The nanocomposite spheres possess a core--sheU structure composed of UCNPs and a mesoporous SiO2/Ca layer with a uniform size distribution of 100 nm. The incorporation of Ca into the nanocomposites induced phase transformation from a pure hexagonal phase to a cubic phase, and facilitated the occurrence of red emission, which significantly improved fluorescence penetration for deep tissue imaging. In addition, since the red emission strongly overlaps with the maximum absorbance of the anti-cancer drug zinc phthalocyanine （ZnPc）, red luminescence could be strongly quenched by ZnPc. Consequently, drug release could be quantified by monitoring changes in fluorescence intensity. Furthermore, the incorporation of Ca into MBG/UCNP nanocomposites remarkably improved bioactivity, i.e., it stimulated apatite mineralization in simulated body fluids and enhanced cell proliferation and bone-related gene expression in BMSCs for the concentration range of 200-500 ~g/mL. Our results suggest that the prepared MBG/UCNP nanocomposites are useful for the therapy and regeneration of bone defects resulting from malignant bone tumors owing to their distinct multifunctionality, including strong red emission and functions in drug-delivery monitoring and osteostimulation.

The optimized structure of the tetrathiafulvalence radical-cation dimer(TTF·+-TTF·+) with all-real frequencies is obtained at MP2/6-311G level,which exhibits the attraction between two molecular cation TTF·+.The new attraction interaction is a 20-center-2-electron intermolecular covalent π /π bonding with a telescope *** covalent π /π bonding has the bonding energy of about -21 kcal·mol-1 and is concealed by the Coulombic repulsion between two TTF·+ *** intermolecular covalent attraction also influences the structure of the TTF·+ subunit,i.e.,its molecular plane is bent by an angle θ=5.6°.This work provides new knowledge on intermolecular interaction.

Corrosion resistance of carbon ion-implanted M50NiL aerospace bearing steel

The effect of carbon implantation on the corrosion behavior of M50NiL aerospace bearing steel through surface modification was investigated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to analyze the composition and structure of the carbon-implanted layer. The corrosion properties of the untreated and carbon ion-implanted samples were evaluated by potentiodynamic curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, which were carried out in 3.5% NaCl solution. Ion implantation of carbon in the M50NiL bearing steel yielded a distinct decrease of the corrosion current densities and an obvious increase of the polarization resistance. The experimental results indicated that the content of chromium oxide in the passive film increased with carbon implantation and that the intergranular corrosion was suppressed in the carbon-implanted sample. Better corrosion protection was observed in the carbon ion implantation sample.

Numerical Simulation Study of Vibration Characteristics of Cantilever Traffic Signal Support Structure under Wind Environment

Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)and the finite element method(FEM)are used to investigate the wind-driven dynamic response of cantilever traffic signal support structures as a *** building a finite element model with the same scale as the actual structure and performing modal analysis,a preliminary understanding of the dynamic properties of the structure is *** on the two-way fluid-structure coupling calculation method,the wind vibration response of the structure under different incoming flow conditions is calculated,and the vibration characteristics of the structure are analyzed through the displacement time course data of the structure in the crosswind direction and along-wind *** results show that the maximum response of the structure increases gradually with the increase of wind speed under 90°wind direction angle,showing a vibration dispersion state,and the vibration response characteristics are following the vibration phenomenon of galloping;under 270°wind direction angle,the maximum displacement response of the structure occurs at the lower wind speed of 5 and 6m/s,and the vibration generated by the structure is vortex vibration at this time;the displacement response of the structure in along-wind direction increaseswith the increase of wind *** along-wind displacement response of the structure will increase with increasing wind speed,and the effective wind area and shape characteristics of the structurewill also affect the vibration response of the structure.

Facile Synthesis of N-Doped Graphene-Like Carbon Nanoflakes as Efficient and Stable Electrocatalysts for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction

A series of N-doped carbon materials(NCs)were synthesized by using biomass citric acid and dicyandiamide as renewable raw materials via a facile onestep pyrolysis method. The characterization of microstructural features shows that the NCs samples are composed of few-layered graphene-like nanoflakes with controlled in situ N doping, which is attributed to the confined pyrolysis of citric acid within the interlayers of the dicyandiamide-derived g-C_3N_4 with high nitrogen contents. Evidently, the pore volumes of the NCs increased with the increasing content of dicyandiamide in the precursor. Among these samples, the NCs nanoflakes prepared with the citric acid/dicyandiamide mass ratio of 1:6, NC-6,show the highest N content of ~6.2 at%, in which pyridinic and graphitic N groups are predominant. Compared to the commercial Pt/C catalyst, the as-prepared NC-6 exhibits a small negative shift of ~66 mV at the half-wave potential, demonstrating excellent electrocatalytic activity in the oxygen reduction reaction. Moreover, NC-6 also shows better long-term stability and resistance to methanol crossover compared to Pt/C. The efficient and stable performance are attributed to the graphene-like microstructure and high content of pyridinic and graphitic doped nitrogen in the sample, which creates more active sites as well as facilitating charge transfer due to the close four-electron reaction pathway. The superior electrocatalytic activity coupled with the facile synthetic method presents a new pathway to cost-effective electrocatalysts for practical fuel cells or metal–air batteries.

DNA nanotechnology utilizes DNA double strands as building units for self-assembly of DNA *** specific base-pairing interaction between DNA molecules is the basis of these *** decades of development,this technology has been able to construct complex and programmable *** the increase in delicate nature and complexity of the synthesized nanostructures,a characterization technology that can observe these structures in three dimensions has become necessary,and developing such a technology is considerably *** assemblies have been studied using different characterization methods including atomic force microscopy(AFM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).However,the three-dimensional(3D)DNA assemblies always collapse locally due to the dehydration during the drying *** electron microscopy(cryo-EM)can overcome the challenge by maintaining three-dimensional morphologies of the cryogenic samples and reconstruct the 3D models from cryogenic samples accordingly by collecting thousands of two-dimensional(2D)projection images,which can restore their original morphologies in ***,we have reviewed several typical cases of 3D DNA-assemblies and highlighted the applications of cryo-EM in characterization of these *** comparing with some other characterization methods,we have shown how cryo-EM promoted the development of structural characterization in the field of DNA nanotechnology.

Complex metal oxide has emerged as an important class of electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)because of its flexibility in the crystal phase and relative ease in the control of defect *** different crystalline phases and solid structures may be produced from the same reactant precursors,their phase transitions and OER performances are not well *** this work,we present the preparation of different phases of SrCo_(0.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3-δ)(nominal ratio)solids using a sol-gel method and the structure-catalytic property relationship of both crystalline and amorphous structures formed at different *** observed as synthetic temperature increased,phase and composition transitions occurred from the amorphous phase to strontium carbonate and cobalt oxide,to oxygen-deficient perovskite,and finally to *** OER activity depended highly on crystal *** oxygen-deficient perovskite prepared at 750℃ exhibited the highest catalytic activity,while the perovskite showed the lowest activity.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis reveals the change of oxidation state occurred during the phase *** work provides a useful guideline for the design of OER electrocatalysts through controlling the crystal structures and defects in complex metal oxides,such as perovskite.
