china is one of the largest countries in the world in terms of planted forests area. planted forests play an important role in soil and water conservation, food source, timber supply and energy security, but there are still many problems waiting for immediate resolution. Based on the current development status of planted forest in china, the paper made an comprehensive analysis for the positive impact and existing problems with regard to planted forests, and then came up with {2. recommendations for promoting sustainable management of planted forests, mainly including: 1) to accelerate planted forests development and improve the quality; 2. to strengthen the protection and management, and quicken the development of planted forests; 3) to enhance the scientific planning for planted forests; 4) to reinforce the management for forests harvesting so as to promote the reasonable utilization of planted forests; 5) to perfect the management system for planted forest resources and improve the managerial capacity; 6) to complete related laws and regulations and improve the {2. guarantee system; 7) to reinforce the forest tenure reform and establish a sound planted forest land transference system. Finally, the paper presented the future action framework for guiding the sustainable management of planted forests in china.

Ensemble successor representations for task generalization in offline-to-online reinforcement learning

In reinforcement learning(rL), training a policy from scratch with online experiences can be inefficient because of the difficulties in exploration. recently, offline rL provides a promising solution by giving an initialized offline policy, which can be refined through online interactions. However, existing approaches primarily perform offline and online learning in the same task, without considering the task generalization problem in offline-to-online adaptation. In real-world applications, it is common that we only have an offline dataset from a specific task while aiming for fast online-adaptation for several tasks. To address this problem, our work builds upon the investigation of successor representations for task generalization in online rL and extends the framework to incorporate offline-to-online learning. We demonstrate that the conventional paradigm using successor features cannot effectively utilize offline data and improve the performance for the new task by online fine-tuning. To mitigate this, we introduce a novel methodology that leverages offline data to acquire an ensemble of successor representations and subsequently constructs ensemble Q functions. This approach enables robust representation learning from datasets with different coverage and facilitates fast adaption of Q functions towards new tasks during the online fine-tuning *** empirical evaluations provide compelling evidence showcasing the superior performance of our method in generalizing to diverse or even unseen tasks.

Continuous advantage learning for minimum-time trajectory planning of autonomous vehicles

This paper investigates the minimum-time trajectory planning problem of an autonomous vehicle. To deal with unknown and uncertain dynamics of the vehicle, the trajectory planning problem is modeled as a Markov decision process with a continuous action space. To solve it, we propose a continuous advantage learning(CAL) algorithm based on the advantage-value equation, and adopt a stochastic policy in the form of multivariate Gaussian distribution to encourage exploration. A shared actor-critic architecture is designed to simultaneously approximate the stochastic policy and the value function, which greatly reduces the computation burden compared to general actor-critic methods. Moreover, the shared actor-critic is updated with a loss function built as mean square consistency error of the advantage-value equation, and the update step is performed several times at each time step to improve data efficiency. Simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed CAL algorithm and its better performance than the soft actor-critic algorithm.

A massive typhoon Megi occurred in October 2.10 in southeast china and caused extensive damage to coastal protection forests. Twenty-one plots of forests were established following the typhoon Megi in Zhangpu county, Fujian province, china. The topographical condition and stand attributes, and the typhoon impact on coastal forests were investigated. We found that an average of 65.13% （±11.82.） forest stems was damaged. The damage patterns included bending, snapping and uprooting, which accounted for 14.35% （±5.84%）, 40.74% （±19.18%） and 8.58% （±6.53%） of the total, respectively. The UNIANOVA analysis indicated that the overall damage levels of coastal forests were affected significantly by the site stand density, topographical factors and management practice. Generally, low stand density, downslope and excessive resin tapping caused more severe damage to coastal forest stands. Small- sized stem was more likely to suffer from snapping and uprooting damages, and the smaller the stem, the higher the susceptibility for the stem to snap or uproot.
