Upregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor A/basic fibroblast growth factor(VEGFA/b FGF)expression in the penumbra of cerebral ischemia can increase vascular volume,reduce lesion volume,and enhance neural cell proliferation and differentiation,thereby exerting neuroprotective effects.However,the beneficial effects of endogenous VEGFA/b FGF are limited as their expression is only transiently increased.In this study,we generated multilayered nanofiber membranes loaded with VEGFA/b FGF using layer-by-layer self-assembly and electrospinning techniques.We found that a membrane containing 10 layers had an ideal ultrastructure and could efficiently and stably release growth factors for more than 1 month.This 10-layered nanofiber membrane promoted brain microvascular endothelial cell tube formation and proliferation,inhibited neuronal apoptosis,upregulated the expression of tight junction proteins,and improved the viability of various cellular components of neurovascular units under conditions of oxygen/glucose deprivation.Furthermore,this nanofiber membrane decreased the expression of Janus kinase-2/signal transducer and activator of transcription-3(JAK2/STAT3),Bax/Bcl-2,and cleaved caspase-3.Therefore,this nanofiber membrane exhibits a neuroprotective effect on oxygen/glucose-deprived neurovascular units by inhibiting the JAK2/STAT3 pathway.

From summer to autumn in 2022,a severe drought lasted in southern China,posing serious effects on economic growth and ecological systems.This study explored the atmospheric circulations accounting for this persistent drought event.It shows that the drought in southern China during the summer of 2022 was strongly linked to the divergence of water vapor flux and descending motions,which were respectively caused by the anomalous anticyclone over the western North Pacific and the northward movement of the East Asian subtropical jet(EASJ).Differently,the atmospheric background responsible for the sustained drought in autumn is manly featured by a cyclonic circulation anomaly over the region from the Bay of Bengal to the South China Sea,which led to decreased moisture and descending motions in southern China.Further investigation suggests that the rarely strong surface warming over northern Eurasia and the extreme La Nina-like pattern over the tropical Pacific jointly resulted in the anomalous anticyclone over the western North Pacific and the northward shift of the EASJ in the summer of 2022,while the cyclonic circulation anomaly prevailing over the region from the Bay of Bengal to the South China Sea in autumn was largely attributed to the extremely negative anomalies of the tropical Indian Ocean sea surface temperature.

Background The superiority of balloon angioplasty plus aggressive medical management(AMM)to AMM alone for symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis(sICAS)on efficacy and safety profiles still lacks evidence from randomised controlled trials(RCTs).Aim To demonstrate the design of an RCT on balloon angioplasty plus AMM for sICAS.Design Balloon Angioplasty for Symptomatic Intracranial Artery Stenosis(BASIS)trial is a multicentre,prospective,randomised,open-label,blinded end-point trial to investigate whether balloon angioplasty plus AMM could improve clinical outcome compared with AMM alone in patients with sICAS.Patients eligible in BASIS were 35–80 years old,with a recent transient ischaemic attack within the past 90 days or ischaemic stroke between 14 days and 90 days prior to enrolment due to severe atherosclerotic stenosis(70%–99%)of a major intracranial artery.The eligible patients were randomly assigned to receive balloon angioplasty plus AMM or AMM alone at a 1:1 ratio.Both groups will receive identical AMM,including standard dual antiplatelet therapy for 90 days followed by long-term single antiplatelet therapy,intensive risk factor management and life-style modification.All participants will be followed up for 3years.Study outcomes Stroke or death in the next 30 days after enrolment or after balloon angioplasty procedure of the qualifying lesion during follow-up,or any ischaemic stroke or revascularisation from the qualifying artery after 30 days but before 12 months of enrolment,is the primary outcome.Discussion BASIS trail is the first RCT to compare the efficacy and safety of balloon angioplasty plus AMM to AMM alone in sICAS patients,which may provide an alternative perspective for treating sICAS.Trial registration number NCT03703635;https://www.***.gov.

The emergence of various new services has posed a huge challenge to the existing network architecture.To improve the network delay and backhaul pressure,caching popular contents at the edge of network has been considered as a feasible scheme.However,how to efficiently utilize the limited caching resources to cache diverse contents has been confirmed as a tough problem in the past decade.In this paper,considering the time-varying user requests and the heterogeneous content sizes,a user preference aware hierarchical cooperative caching strategy in edge-user caching architecture is proposed.We divide the caching strategy into three phases,that is,the content placement,the content delivery and the content update.In the content placement phase,a cooperative content placement algorithm for local content popularity is designed to cache contents proactively.In the content delivery phase,a cooperative delivery algorithm is proposed to deliver the cached contents.In the content update phase,a content update algorithm is proposed according to the popularity of the contents.Finally,the proposed caching strategy is validated using the MovieLens dataset,and the results reveal that the proposed strategy improves the delay performance by at least 35.3%compared with the other three benchmark strategies.

Effect of kerosene injection states on mixing and combustion characteristics in a cavity-based supersonic combustor

It has been found that the static pressure distribution along the axial direction of liquid kerosene is lower than that of the gaseous kerosene under the same flow condition and overall equivalent ratio from previous studies.To further investigate this phenomenon,a compressible two-phase parallel simulation method is utilized to analyze the mixing and combustion characteristics of gaseous and liquid kerosene jets in a cavity-based supersonic combustor.The numerical results are consistent with the experiments and demonstrate that gaseous injection leads to a cavity shear layer that dives deeper into the cavity,forming two recirculation zones in the front and rear of the cavity.In contrast,the cavity shear layer is closer to the mainstream during liquid injection,and only a large recirculation zone is formed in the rear of the cavity.As a result of the cavity shear layer and the recirculating flow,the fuel vapor of gaseous injection accumulates in the front of the cavity,while for the liquid injection,the fuel vapor disperses in the cavity,cavity shear layer,and the region above,and the rear of the cavity has a higher fuel vapor concentration than the front.This unique fuel distribution causes the combustion area to be concentrated in the cavity during the gaseous injection but dispersed inside and downstream of the cavity during the liquid injection.As a result,forming a thermal throat under the same conditions is more challenging during liquid injection,and the generated static pressure distribution is lower than that during the gaseous injection.

Adaptive PI Control Based Stability Margin Configuration of Aircraft Control Systems with Unknown System Parameters and Time Delay

The stability margin is a vital indicator for assessing the safety level of aircraft control systems. It should maintain sufficient stability margin to ensure safety during flight, especially in the process of large maneuver operations. The stability margin is generally quantified by the Bode diagram,which strictly depends on the system parameters and the open-loop transfer function. However, due to the uncertain flight environments, transmission delays of sensors and mode switchings, etc., there exist large parameter and structure uncertainties in the aircraft control systems, which make it difficult to precisely configure the stability margin to the desired value by the usual control methods. To address this problem, an indirect adaptive control strategy is proposed in this paper, where an adaptive PI control law with the capability of self-configuration of stability margin is developed. The developed control law not only achieves stable time-varying command tracking in the time domain, but also is able to automatically configure the phase margin and gain margin in the frequency domain. Finally,the simulation of the one-degree-of-freedom roll rate control model of the air vehicle verifies the validity of the proposed control method.

Numerical modeling and experimental investigation of a two-phase sink vortex and its fluid-solid vibration characteristics

A sink vortex is a common physical phenomenon in continuous casting,chemical extraction,water conservancy,and other industrial processes,and often causes damage and loss in production.Therefore,the real-time monitoring of the sink vortex state is important for improving industrial production efficiency.However,its suction-extraction phenomenon and shock vibration characteristics in the course of its formation are complex mechanical dynamic factors for flow field state monitoring.To address this issue,we set up a multi-physics model using the level set method(LSM)for a free sink vortex to study the two-phase interaction mechanism.Then,a fluid–solid coupling dynamic model was deduced to investigate the shock vibration characteristics and reveal the transition mechanism of the critical flow state.The numerical results show that the coupling energy shock induces a pressure oscillation phenomenon,which appears to be a transient enhancement of vibration at the vortex penetration state.The central part of the transient enhancement signal is a high-frequency signal.Based on the dynamic coupling model,an experimental observation platform was established to verify the accuracy of the numerical results.The water-model experiment results were accordant with the numerical results.The above results provide a reference for fluid state recognition and active vortex control for industrial monitoring systems,such as those in aerospace pipe transport,hydropower generation,and microfluidic devices.

Nausea and vomiting are important defensive responses to cope with pathogens and toxins that invade the body. The nucleus of the solitary tract(NTS) is important for initiating these responses. However, the molecular heterogeneities and cellular diversities of the NTS occlude a better understanding of these defensive responses. Here, we constructed the single-nucleus transcriptomic atlas of NTS cells and found multiple populations of NTS neurons that may be involved in these defensive responses. Among these, we identified Calbindin1-positive(Calb1+) NTS neurons that are molecularly distinct from Tac1+neurons.These Calb1+neurons are critical for nausea and retching induced by cereulide; an emetic toxin secreted by Bacillus Cereus. Strikingly, we found that cereulide can directly modulate vagal sensory neurons that innervate Calb1+NTS neurons, a novel mechanism distinct from that for nausea and retching induced by Staphylococcal enterotoxin A. Together, our transcriptomic atlas of NTS neurons and the functional analyses revealed the neural mechanism for cereulide-induced retching-like behavior. These results demonstrate the molecular and cellular complexities in the brain that underlie defensive responses to the diversities of pathogens and toxins.

The basic structure and intraseasonal evolution of currents in the southeastern Andaman Sea was analyzed based on data collected in 2017 from two subsurface moorings(C1 and C5).Periodic variation in the upper ocean currents of the Andaman Sea was investigated by combining observational and satellite data.Mooring observations show that rapid changes of current speed and direction occurred in May and June,with a significant increase in current velocity at the C1 mooring.In the second half of the year,southward flow dominated at the C1 mooring,and alternating northward and southward flows were evident at the C5 mooring during the same period but the northward flow prevailed in boreal winter.In addition,analysis of the power spectra of the upper currents revealed that the tidal period at both moorings is primarily semidiurnal with weaker energy than that of the low-frequency currents.The upper ocean currents at the C1 and C5 moorings exhibited intraseasonal variation of 30-60 d and 120 d,while the zonal current at the C1 mooring exhibited a notable period of approximately 180 d.Further analysis indicated that the variability of currents in the Andaman Sea is influenced primarily by equatorial Kelvin waves and Rossby wave packets.Moreover,our results suggest that equatorial Kelvin waves from the eastern Indian Ocean entered the Andaman Sea in the form of Wyrtki Jets and propagated primarily along two distinct pathways during the observation period.In addition to coastal boundary Kelvin waves,it was found that a branch of the Wyrtki Jet that directly enters the Andaman Sea and flows northward along the slope of the continental shelf,and reflected Rossby wave packets by topography.

Traditional research believes that the filling body can effectively control stress concentration while ignoring the problems of unknown stability and the complex and changeable stress distribution of the filling body–surrounding rock combination under high-stress conditions.Current monitoring data processing methods cannot fully consider the complexity of monitoring objects,the diversity of monitoring methods,and the dynamics of monitoring data.To solve this problem,this paper proposes a phase space reconstruction and stability prediction method to process heterogeneous information of backfill–surrounding rock combinations.The three-dimensional monitoring system of a large-area filling body–surrounding rock combination in Longshou Mine was constructed by using drilling stress,multipoint displacement meter,and inclinometer.Varied information,such as the stress and displacement of the filling body–surrounding rock combination,was continuously obtained.Combined with the average mutual information method and the false nearest neighbor point method,the phase space of the heterogeneous information of the filling body–surrounding rock combination was then constructed.In this paper,the distance between the phase point and its nearest point was used as the index evaluation distance to evaluate the stability of the filling body–surrounding rock combination.The evaluated distances(ED)revealed a high sensitivity to the stability of the filling body–surrounding rock combination.The new method was then applied to calculate the time series of historically ED for 12 measuring points located at Longshou Mine.The moments of mutation in these time series were at least 3 months ahead of the roadway return dates.In the ED prediction experiments,the autoregressive integrated moving average model showed a higher prediction accuracy than the deep learning models(long short-term memory and Transformer).Furthermore,the root-mean-square error distribution of the prediction results peaked at 0.26,thus outperforming the no-prediction method
