Body Mass Index and Hypertension Hemodynamic Subtypes in Yi Farmers and Migrants

Objective To examine the relationship between overweight or obesity and the risk of the various hypertension hemodynamic subtypes in Yi farmers and migrants. Methods A cross-sectional study of 2 358 Yi farmers and 2 392 Yi migrants was carried out in the Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Sichuan, China in 2007. Results The standardized prevalence of overweight in female Yi farmers （6.22%） was higher than in males （3.25%）, whereas in Yi migrants 32.56% of males and 28.78% of females were overweight. The standardized prevalence of obesity was 0 and 0.62% in male and female Yi farmers, compared to 3.91% and 5.57% in male and female Yi migrants, respectively. For both genders the standardized prevalence of ISH, IDH, and SDH was higher in Yi migrants than Yi farmers. Overweight and obese Yi men and women had a higher risk for IDH and SDH （P〈O.002） than non-overweight/obese individuals. However, an association of overweight or obesity with ISH was observed only in men. Conclusion Yi migrants have substantially higher proportion of overweight and obese individuals, as well as individuals affected by ISH, IDH, and SDH, than do Yi farmers. Overweight and obesity are significant risk factors for the development of hypertension in Yi people.

Stereodivergent synthesis ofα-fluoroα-azaarylγ-butyrolactones via cooperative copper and iridium catalysis

The development of stereodivergent synthetic methods to access all four stereoisomers of biologically importantα-fluoroγ-butyrolactones containing vicinal stereocenters is of great importance and poses a formidable challenge owing to ring strain and steric hindrance.Herein,a novel asymmetric[3+2]annulation ofα-fluoroα-azaaryl acetates with vinylethylene carbonate was successfully developed through Cu/Ir-catalyzed cascade allylic alkylation/lactonization,affording a variety of enantioenrichedα-fluoroγ-butyrolactones bearing vicinal stereogenic centers with high reaction efficiency and excellent levels of both stereoselectivity and regioselectivity(up to 98%yield,generally>20:1 dr and>99%ee).Notably,all four stereoisomers of these pharmaceutically valuable molecules could be accessed individually via simple permutations of two enantiomeric catalysts.In addition,other azaaryl acetates bearingα-methyl,α-chlorine orα-phenyl group were tolerated well in this transformation.Reaction mechanistic investigations were conducted to explore the process of this bimetallic catalysis based on the results of reaction intermediates,isotopic labelling experiments,and kinetic studies.

A homopolymolybdate-supported plate-like 2D cobalt network constructed from a new pyrazole-amide-pyridyl ligand: highly electrochemical activity in both capacitive performance and the detection of Cr(Ⅵ)

By employing a new semi-rigid pyrazole-amide-derived bis(pyridyl)ligand[N,N'-bis(4-picolylamine)-1-hydropyrazole(4-dpap)],a new homopolymolybdate-based two-dimensional(2D)plate-like complex[Co(4-dpap)(H_(2)O)(β-Mo_(8)O_(2)6)1/2](1)has been prepared under solvothermal condition and structurally characterized.Theβ-Mo_(8)anions are fi xed between the 2D metal–organic networks[Co(4-dpap)(H_(2)O)]n 2n+via hydrogen-bonding interaction.Complex 1 possesses satisfactory specifi c capacitance of 1512.4 F·g^(−1)(current density:1 A·g^(−1))and good cycling stability(90.8%after 1000 cycles).Moreover,1 represents a promising amperometric sensor for measurement of Cr(Ⅵ)with low detection limit(0.042μmol·L^(−1))and high durability.The insertion ofβ-Mo_(8)anions between the unique 2D metal−organic networks improves the active area of polyoxometalates,which further promotes electrochemical performance.

Unusual Single Electron Transfer Reactions between Alkenes and Iodine Electrophiles

The electrophilic addition to an alkene with an electrophile has been widely studied and applied in organic synthesis.The organic chemistry textbook describes the classical reaction between an alkene and an iodine electrophile(such as elemental iodine and N-iodosuccinimide(NIS))as a typical ionic reaction,in which an iodonium ion is formed and then attacked by a nucleophile.However,in this article,we report a new and unusual reaction mode between an alkene and NIS;that is,a single electron transfer(SET)process occurs between these two reactants by forming an electron-donor acceptor complex.Not only does this unusual single electron transfer reaction between an alkene and NIS add fundamentally important knowledge to organic chemistry,it also provides a valuable synthetic method as the new SET reaction mode with opposite regioselectivity as compared with the traditional ionic mode.

Pb induced dislocation defects of PtCo systems: Strain-triggered oxygen reduction reaction for PEMFC

Design and development of advanced electrocatalysts with high performance and low Pt consumption are crucial for reducing the kinetic energy barrier of the cathode oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and improving the efficiency of proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFC).In this study,we demonstrate a Pb-modulated PtCo system for efficient ORR,in which the inclusion of Pb in ternary alloys induces dislocation defects due to the significant difference in atomic radius.Dislocation-PtCoPb was confirmed to exhibit significantly higher ORR activity and stability in acidic ORR.In practical PEMFC applications,it outperforms the corresponding commercial Pt/C with a mass activity of 0.58 A·mgPt^(-1),making it a promising alternative to state-of-the-art Pt-based catalysts.The combination of experimental results and density functional theory(DFT)calculations offers valuable atomic-level insights into the dislocation structures.Pb with a larger atomic radius is located in the lattice stretching region below the dislocation slip plane,forming a structure similar to a Cottrell atmosphere,which reduces the dislocation energy and puts the system in a lower energy state.The Cottrell atmosphere pins the dislocation structure and stabilizes the ternary alloy.By adjusting the amount of added Pb,a moderate level of dislocation density induces a tuned strain effect,thereby enhancing the electrocatalytic mechanism by optimizing the electronic structure of the alloy surface and the adsorption and desorption of oxygen species.This work provides valuable insights into the design and development of lattice dislocation defect structures to trigger strain effects for improving ORR performance.

A bifunctional POM-based Cu-viologen complex with mixed octamolybdate clusters for rapid oxidation desulfurization and effective photogeneration of hydrogen

The design and synthesis of catalysts for the oxidation desulfurization and production of hydrogen are extremely important for solving environmental pollution and energy shortage.Herein,a novel bifunctional [α-Mo_(8)O_(26)]^(4-)/[β-Mo_(8)O_(26)]^(4-)-based Cu-viologen complex H_(4)[Cu_(2)~ⅠCl_(2)(Hbcbpy)_(4)] [α-Mo_(8)O_(26)] [β-Mo8O_(26)]·H_(2)O(BHU-2,Hbcbpy=1-(4-carboxybenzyl)-4,4'-bipyridinium) was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction(XRD),infrared radiation spectra,powder X-ray diffraction(PXRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) spectra.The structural characteristic of BHU-2 is the presence of two types of octamolybdate clusters [α-Mo_(8)O_(26)]^(4-)/[β-Mo_(8)O_(26)]^(4-)and a new binuclear Cu~Ⅰ-Hbcbpy complex linked by Cl-bridges[Cu_(2)ⅠCl_(2)(Hbcbpy)_(4)]^(4+).BHU-2 as a heterogeneous catalyst exhibits excellent activities to the oxidation desulfurization and photocatalytic hydrogen production.At room temperature,BHU-2 can catalyze 96% conversion of methyl phenyl sulfide with 98% selectivity,and the process obeys the pseudo-first-order reaction kinetic with the half-life of9.6 min.The notorious 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide can achieve 99% conversion with 98% selectivity within only1 min at the presence of BHU-2,and the turnover frequency(TOF) is up to 7400 h^(-1).BHU-2 also exhibits high catalytic activity for the oxidation of other aromatic and aliphatic thioethers within short time at room temperature.Furthermore,BHU-2 shows a high catalytic activity for visible-light-driven hydrogen evolution with an H_(2) evolution rate of 1677.85 μmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1) within 10 h.Moreover,the catalytic activities do not decrease evidently after three cycles,revealing the prominent structural stability and recyclability.

On the superconvergence of a WG method for the elliptic problem with variable coefficients

This article extends a recently developed superconvergence result for weak Galerkin（WG） approximations for modeling partial differential equations from constant coefficients to variable coefficients.This superconvergence features a rate that is two orders higher than the optimal-order error estimates in the usual energy and L2norms. The extension from constant to variable coefficients for the modeling equations is highly non-trivial. The underlying technical analysis is based on a sequence of projections and decompositions. Numerical results confirm the superconvergence theory for second-order elliptic problems with variable coefficients.

Effects of Helicobacter pylori and Moluodan on the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in mice with precancerous gastric cancer lesions

BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)is the primary risk factor for gastric cancer(GC),the Wnt/β-Catenin signaling pathway is closely linked to tumourigenesis.GC has a high mortality rate and treatment cost,and there are no drugs to prevent the progression of gastric precancerous lesions to GC.Therefore,it is necessary to find a novel drug that is inexpensive and preventive to against GC.AIM To explore the effects of H.pylori and Moluodan on the Wnt/β-Catenin signaling pathway and precancerous lesions of GC(PLGC).METHODS Mice were divided into the control,N-methyl-N-nitrosourea(MNU),H.pylori+MNU,and Moluodan groups.We first created an H.pylori infection model in the H.pylori+MNU and Moluodan groups.A PLGC model was created in the remaining three groups except for the control group.Moluodan was fed to mice in the Moloudan group ad libitum.The general condition of mice were observed during the whole experiment period.Gastric tissues of mice were grossly and microscopically examined.Through quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR)and Western blotting analysis,the expression of relevant genes were detected.RESULTS Mice in the H.pylori+MNU group showed the worst performance in general condition,gastric tissue visual and microscopic observation,followed by the MNU group,Moluodan group and the control group.QRT-PCR and Western blotting analysis were used to detect the expression of relevant genes,the results showed that the H.pylori+MNU group had the highest expression,followed by the MNU group,Moluodan group and the control group.CONCLUSION H.pylori can activate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway,thereby facilitating the development and progression of PLGC.Moluodan suppressed the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway,thereby decreasing the progression of PLGC.

Multi-endpoint assays reveal more severe toxicity induced by chloraminated effluent organic matter than chloraminated natural organic matter

Disinfection by chloramination produces toxic byproducts and the difference in toxicity of reclaimed and drinking water treated by chloramination remains unclear.This study investigated cytotoxic effects at the same concentrations of dissolved organic matter and showed that chloraminated effluent organic matter(EfOM)induced 1.7 times higher cytotoxicity than chloraminated natural organic matter(NOM)applied to simulate drinking water.Chloraminated EfOM induced more reactive nitrogen species than chloraminated NOM,and chloraminated EfOM and NOM induced similar and higher levels of reactive oxygen species than the negative control,respectively.Consequently,intracellular macromolecule damage indicated by DNA/RNA damage marker 8–hydroxy-(deoxy)guanosine and the intracellular protein carbonyl concentration induced by chloraminated EfOM was higher and slightly more than that induced by chloraminated NOM,respectively.These data were consistent with the effects on cell physiological processes.Cell cycle arrest mainly occurred in G2 phase by chloraminated EfOM and NOM.Early apoptotic cells,which could return to normal,increased upon exposure to high concentrations of chloraminated EfOM and NOM.Moreover,necrotic cells were significantly increased from 0.5%to 2.5%when the concentration increased from 20-to 60-fold chloraminated EfOM,but were not obviously changed by chloraminated NOM.These results indicated that the comprehensive intracellular changes induced by toxic substances in chloraminated EfOM were more irreversible and induced more cell death than chloraminated NOM.

The construction of a new beamline,BL10U1,was completed at the Shanghai synchrotron radiation facility in 2020.This multipurpose beamline was designed to provide X-ray scattering techniques such as ultra-small-angle X-ray scattering(USAXS),small-angle X-ray scattering(SAXS),wide-angle X-ray scattering,and microfocus SAXS(μSAXS)for a broad user community.To realize fast time-resolved USAXS experiments,the beamline adopted an in-vacuum undulator with a total length of 1.6 m as the photon source.An in-house cryogenic-cooled double multilayer monochromator was installed to deliver a photon flux of approximately 10^(13) photons/s at a photon energy of 10 keV.The three-year successful operation of this beamline demonstrated that the monochromator operated smoothly,as expected.BL10U1 has three end stations in succession:USAXS end station,μSAXS end station,and end station for industrial applications.The minimum scattering vector q~0.0042 nm^(-1) at 10 keV can be achieved at the USAXS end station equipped with a 28 m-long and 1.8 m-diameter vacuum flight tube.At theμSAXS end station,a beam spot of less than 10×8μm was achieved for micro-SAXS experiments.In contrast,in situ experimental instruments up to 5 m high and 8 m wide can be mounted at the industrial application end station,which offers industrial scientists the opportunity to use their large industrial equipment.BL10U1 opens up a new capability to investigate phenomena such as non-equilibrium and dynamic processes of materials with a wide length scale from angstroms to micrometers with millisecond time resolution.In this paper,we also report beamline design considerations and commissioning results.
