Effects of salinity and betaine addition on anaerobic granular sludge properties and microbial community succession patterns in organic saline wastewater

In this study,the effects of different salinity gradients and addition of compatible solutes on anaerobic treated effluent water qualities,sludge characteristics and microbial communities were *** increase in salinity resulted in a decrease in particle size of the granular sludge,which was concentrated in the range of 0.5-1.0 *** content of EPS(extracellular polymeric substances)in the granular sludge gradually increased with increasing salinity and the addition of betaine(a typical compatible solute).Meanwhile,the microbial community structure was significantly affected by salinity,with high salinity reducing the diversity of *** higher salinity,Patescibacteria and Proteobacteria gradually became the dominant phylum,with relative abundance increasing to 13.53%and 12.16%at 20 g/L *** and its subordinate Desulfovibrio,which secrete EPS in large quantities,dominated significantly after betaine *** relative abundance reached 13.65%and 7.86%at phylum level and genus *** effect of these changes on the treated effluent was shown as the average chemical oxygen demand(COD)removal rate decreased from 82.10%to 79.71%,78.01%,68.51%and 64.55%when the salinity gradually increased from 2 g/L to 6,10,16 and 20 g/*** the salinity of 20 g/L,average COD removal increased to 71.65%by the addition of 2 mmol/L *** gradient elevated salinity and the exogenous addition of betaine played an important role in achieving stability of the anaerobic system in a highly saline environment,which provided a feasible strategy for anaerobic treatment of organic saline wastewater.

The phenomenon termed“zebra stripes”manifests as regular patterns in the energy-space(L shell)spectrum of energetic electrons(ranging from tens to hundreds ke V)within the inner radiation *** structures exhibit drift-periodic behavior and commonly arise from large-scale electric field perturbations near the substorm *** this study,we introduce a composite electric field model and replicate the formation,structure,and evolution of zebra stripes using a bounce-averaged test particle code under this electric field ***-resolution measurements of energetic electrons obtained from the Van Allen Probes and the recently launched Macao Science Satellites-1 are used as initial conditions and served to validate our test particle *** analyses between observed data and simulations demonstrate our test particle method's efficacy in capturing zebra stripes'general ***,the composite model proves capable of reproducing realistic variations in the electric field within the inner radiation belt to a certain ***,subtle differences emerge in the flux strength and the positions of *** disparities primarily stem from limitations inherent in the electric field model and the initial conditions of the *** that the model represents an average case,it is conceivable that real-world scenarios may deviate from the average,thereby introducing variations in the observed phenomena.

In the era of Metaverse and virtual reality(VR)/augmented reality(AR),capturing finger motion and force interactions is crucial for immersive human-machine *** study introduces a flexible electronic skin for the index finger,addressing coupled perception of both state and process in dynamic tactile *** device integrates resistive and giant magnetoelastic sensors,enabling detection of surface pressure and finger joint *** e-skin identifies three phases of finger action:bending state,dynamic normal force and tangential force(sweeping).The system comprises resistive carbon nanotubes(CNT)/polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)films for bending sensing and magnetoelastic sensors(NdFeB particles,EcoFlex,and flexible coils)for pressure *** inward bending resistive sensor,based on self-assembled microstructures,exhibits directional specificity with a response time under 120 ms and bending sensitivity from 0°to 120°.The magnetoelastic sensors demonstrate specific responses to frequency and deformation magnitude,as well as sensitivity to surface roughness during sliding and material *** system’s capability is demonstrated through tactile-based bread type and condition recognition,achieving 92%*** intelligent patch shows broad potential in enhancing interactions across various fields,from VR/AR interfaces and medical diagnostics to smart manufacturing and industrial automation.

Protonic solid oxide electrolysis cells(P-SOECs)are a promising technology for water electrolysis to produce green ***,there are still challenges related key materials and anode/electrolyte interface.P-SOECs with Zr-rich electrolyte,called Zr-rich side P-SOECs,possess high thermodynamically stability under high steam concentrations but the large reaction resistances and the current leakage,thus the inferior *** this study,an efficient functional interlayer Ba_(0.95)La_(0.05)Fe_(0.8)Zn_(0.2)O_(3-δ)(BLFZ)in-between the anode and the electrolyte is *** electrochemical performances of P-SOECs are greatly enhanced because the BLFZ can greatly increase the interface contact,boost anode reaction kinetics,and increase proton injection into *** a result,the P-SOEC yields high current density of 0.83 A cm^(-2) at 600℃ in 1.3 Vamong all the reported Zr-rich side *** work not only offers an efficient functional interlayer for P-SOECs but also holds the potential to achieve P-SOECs with high performances and long-term stability.

Civil aviation is one of the industries facing the greatest challenge in reaching carbon neutrality by the middle of this century,and this sector also contributes to adverse impacts on the regional air quality and human *** exhibits the second highest air passenger turnover *** understanding of civil aviation emissionsmust be urgently enhanced,and themitigation potential should be *** this study,on the basis of real domestic flight information for 2019,we built a greenhouse gas and air pollution emission inventory for the civil aviation sector in China with the fuel flowmethod based on the cruise and other *** thoroughly analyzed emissions by region,aircraft and engine types,and aircraft age,based on which we designed four measures to evaluate the abatement *** found that the hydrocarbon(HC),CO,NO_(x),SO_(2),particulate matter(PM)and CO_(2)emissions in 2019 reached 79.9 kt(95%CI[51.6–114.5]),176.3 kt(95%CI[114.5–248.2]),304.2 kt(95%CI[203.4–420.7]),23.2 kt(95%CI[14.2–33.7]),1.0 kt(95%CI[0.61–1.44])and 87.0 Mt(95%CI[57.4–119.6]),*** cruise phase was the major emission phase,accounting for 67%-87%of the total pollutant *** four measures were jointly implemented,the HC,CO,NO_(x),SO_(2),PM and CO_(2)emissions could be reduced by 61%,54%,55%,45%,32%and 38%,*** lower-emission aircraft and switching travel modes could substantially reduce civil aviation emissions in China.

Adjacent Segment Biomechanical Changes After Implantation of Cage Plus Plate or Zero-Profile Device in Different Segmental Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion

Cage plus plate (CP) and zero-profile (Zero-P) devices are widely used in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). This study aimed to compare adjacent segment biomechanical changes after ACDF when using Zero-P device and CP in different segments. First, complete C1—C7 cervical segments were constructed and validated. Meanwhile, four surgery models were developed by implanting the Zero-P device or CP into C4—C5 or C5—C6 segments based on the intact model. The segmental range of motion (ROM) and maximum value of the intradiscal pressure of the surgery models were compared with those of the intact model. The implantation of CP and Zero-P devices in C4—C5 segments decreased ROM by about 91.6% and 84.3%, respectively, and increased adjacent segment ROM by about 8.3% and 6.82%, respectively. The implantation of CP and Zero-P devices in C5—C6 segments decreased ROM by about 93.3% and 89.9%, respectively, while increasing adjacent segment ROM by about 4.9% and 4%, respectively. Furthermore, the implantation of CP and Zero-P devices increased the intradiscal pressure in the adjacent segments of C4—C5 segments by about 4.5% and 6.7%, respectively. The implantation of CP and Zero-P devices significantly increased the intradiscal pressure in the adjacent segments of C5—C6 by about 54.1% and 15.4%, respectively. In conclusion, CP and Zero-P fusion systems can significantly reduce the ROM of the fusion implant segment in ACDF while increasing the ROM and intradiscal pressure of adjacent segments. Results showed that Zero-P fusion system is the best choice for C5—C6 segmental ACDF. However, further studies are needed to select the most suitable cervical fusion system for C4—C5 segmental ACDF. Polymeric microwave actuators combining tissue-like softness with programmablemicrowave-responsive deformation hold great promise for mobile intelligentdevices and bionic soft robots. However, their application is challenged by restricted electromagneticsensitivity and intricate sensing coupling. In this study, a sensitized polymericmicrowave actuator is fabricated by hybridizing a liquid crystal polymer with Ti3C2Tx(MXene). Compared to the initial counterpart, the hybrid polymer exhibits unique spacechargepolarization and interfacial polarization, resulting in significant improvements of230% in the dielectric loss factor and 830% in the apparent efficiency of electromagneticenergy harvest. The sensitized microwave actuation demonstrates as the shortenedresponse time of nearly 10 s, which is merely 13% of that for the initial shape memory polymer. Moreover, the ultra-low content of MXene (upto 0.15 wt%) benefits for maintaining the actuation potential of the hybrid polymer. An innovative self-powered sensing prototype that combinesdriving and piezoelectric polymers is developed, which generates real-time electric potential feedback (open-circuit potential of ~ 3 mV) duringactuation. The polarization-dominant energy conversion mechanism observed in the MXene-polymer hybrid structure furnishes a new approachfor developing efficient electromagnetic dissipative structures and shows potential for advancing polymeric electromagnetic intelligent devices.
