Three-dimensional thermohaline structure estimation derived from HY-2 satellite data over the Maritime Silk Road and its applications

Estimated ocean subsurface fields derived from satellite observations provide potential data sources for operational marine environmental monitoring and prediction *** study employs a statistic regression reconstruction method,in combination with domestic autonomous sea surface height and sea surface temperature observations from the Haiyang-2(HY-2)satellite fusion data,to establish an operational quasi-realtime three-dimensional(3D)temperature and salinity products over the Maritime Silk *** products feature a daily temporal resolution and a spatial resolution of 0.25°×0.25°and exhibit stability and *** have demonstrated the accuracy of the reconstructed thermohaline fields in capturing the 3D thermohaline variations through comprehensive statistical evaluations,after comparing them against Argo observations and ocean analysis data from *** results illustrate that the reconstructed fields effectively represent seasonal variations in oceanic subsurface structures,along with structural changes resulting from mesoscale processes,and the upper ocean’s responses to tropical ***,the incorporation of HY-2 satellite observations notably enhances the accuracy of temperature and salinity reconstructions in the Northwest Pacific Ocean and marginally improves salinity reconstruction accuracy in the North Indian Ocean when compared to the World Ocean Atlas 2018 monthly climatology thermohaline *** a result,the reconstructed product holds promise for providing quasi-real-time 3D temperature and salinity field information to facilitate fast decisionmaking during emergencies,and also offers foundational thermohaline fields for operational ocean reanalysis and forecasting *** contributions enhance the safety and stability of ocean subsurface activities and navigation.

Evaluation of the Arctic Sea-Ice Simulation on SODA3 Datasets

This study evaluates the Arctic sea-ice simulation of the SODA3 dataset driven by different atmospheric forcing fields and explores the errors of the Arctic sea-ice simulation caused by the forcing *** find that the SODA3 data driven by different forcing fields represent a significant systematical error in the simulation of Arctic sea-ice concentration,showing a low concentration of thick ice and a high concentration of thin *** terms of sea-ice extent,the SODA3 data from different versions well characterize the interannual variability and declining trend in the observed data,but they overestimate the overall Arctic sea-ice extent,which is related to excessive simulation of ice in the sea-ice *** to observations,all the chosen SODA3 reanalysis versions driven by different atmospheric forcing generally tend to underestimate the Arctic sea-ice thickness,especially for thick ice in the multi-year sea-ice *** simulations of Arctic sea-ice transport may partly explain the error in SODA3 sea-ice thickness in multi-year sea-ice *** results of different SDOA3 versions differ greatly in the Beaufort Sea,the Fram Strait,and the Central Arctic *** difference in sea-ice thickness among different SODA3 versions is primarily due to the thermodynamic contribution,which may come from the diversity of atmospheric forcing *** work provides a reference for using SODA3 data to study Arctic sea ice.

Statistical characteristics and mechanisms of mesoscale eddies in the North Indian Ocean

The statistical characteristics and mechanisms of mesoscale eddies in the North Indian Ocean are investigated by adopting multi-sensor satellite data from 1993 to *** the Arabian Sea(AS),seasonal variation of eddy characteristics is remarkable,while the intraseasonal variability caused by planetary waves is crucial in the Bay of Bengal(BOB).Seasonal variation of the eddy kinetic energy(EKE)is distinct along the west boundary of AS,especially in the Somali Current *** the BOB,larger EKE occurs at the northwest basin from March to May,to the east of Sri Lanka from June to September,and along the east coast of India from November to *** wind stress work(WW)is further studied to figure out the direct influence of wind forcing on *** WW exerts positive effects on EKE along the west boundary of AS and in the south of India/Sri Lanka during the two monsoon ***,the WW also has impact on EKE along the east coast of India in November and ***,we investigate the characteristics and the driving mechanisms of long lifespan *** the AS,long lifespan anti-cyclonic eddies(AEs)mainly generate in the Socotra,the West Indian Coastal Current and the East Arabian Current regions,while cyclonic eddies(CEs)are concentrated in the northwest *** the BOB,long lifespan AEs mostly form near the west of Myanmar,while CEs are accumulated at the north and northwest *** instabilities caused by Rossby waves,coastal Kelvin waves,seasonal currents,together with wind stress forcing exert enormous efforts on the generation and evolution of these eddies.

针对应急救援环境下,滑坡实时动态位移测量存在数据波动范围广、噪声大、模态混叠等问题,提出了一种基于CEEMDAN-Kmeans-ARIMA的组合预测模型。首先基于自适应噪声完备集合的经验模态分解算法,将添加PPP定位偏差噪声的斋藤模型信号分解为多个本征模态函数,并且根据K-means聚类算法将物理意义相近的本征模态函数进行聚类重构;然后针对多个聚类重构分量,构建最优的差分自回归移动平均预测模型;最后将聚类重构分量的预测值进行叠加,得到组合模型的预测值。实验结果表明,组合模型的MAPE指标相对于ARIMA单模型提高了2.16%,解决了ARIMA预测模型存在的突变量不敏感、剩余滑坡预测时间不准等问题。在救援环境下,采用所提出的模型对实时动态滑坡进行预警预测具有一定的工程应用价值。

Temporal and spatial variation characteristics of Antarctic sea ice and the causes of its record decline during 2015–2016: a review

Satellite observations over the past four decades have shown that the long-term trend of Antarctic sea ice extent(SIE)is opposite to the trend of sea ice extent in the *** sea ice extent continues to decline while Antarctic SIE is generally on the rise except for a dramatic decline in 2015–*** on the 40-year climatology from 1981 to 2020,Antarctic SIE anomaly in December 2016 is–2.1×10^(6) km^(2),reaching the minimum since *** are many studies on the cause of this record *** present review summarizes the spatial and temporal characters of Antarctic sea ice and recaps major findings on the causes of record decline in 2015–2016 from the perspective of direct thermodynamic and dynamic process of atmosphere and ocean as well as the modulation of climate ***,the challenges and key scientific problems to be solved in the future of Antarctic sea ice research are presented.

Four-dimensional variational(4D-VAR) data assimilation method is a perfect data assimilation solution in theory, but the computational issue is quite difficult in operational *** incremental 4D-VAR assimilation scheme is set up in order to reduce the computational cost. It is shown that the accuracy of the observations, the length of the assimilation window and the choice of the first guess have an important influence on the assimilation outcome through the contrast experiment. Compared with the standard 4D-VAR assimilation scheme, the incremental 4D-VAR assimilation scheme shows its advantage in the computation speed through an assimilation experiment.

Tropical Cyclone Genesis Potential Index over the Western North Pacific Simulated by CMIP5 Models

Tropical cyclone （TC） genesis over the western North Pacific （WNP） is analyzed using 23 CMIP5 （Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5） models and reanalysis datasets. The models are evaluated according to TC genesis potential index （GPI）. The spatial and temporal variations of the GPI are first calculated using three atmospheric reanalysis datasets （ERA-Interim, NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis- 1, and NCEP/DOE Reanalysis-2）. Spatial distributions of July-October-mean TC frequency based on the GPI from ERA-interim are more consistent with observed ones derived from IBTrACS global TC data. So, the ERA-interim reanalysis dataset is used to examine the CMIP5 models in terms of reproducing GPI during the period 1982-2005. Although most models possess deficiencies in reproducing the spatial distribution of the GPI, their multi- model ensemble （MME） mean shows a reasonable climatological GPI pattern characterized by a high GPI zone along 20°N in the WNP. There was an upward trend of TC genesis frequency during 1982 to 1998, followed by a downward trend. Both MME results and reanalysis data can represent a robust increasing trend during 1982-1998, but the models cannot simulate the downward trend after 2000. Analysis based on future projection experiments shows that the GPI exhibits no significant change in the first half of the 21st century, and then starts to decrease at the end of the 21st century under the representative concentration pathway （RCP） 2.6 scenario. Under the RCP8.5 scenario, the GPI shows an increasing trend in the vicinity of 20°N, indicating more TCs could possibly be expected over the WNP under future global warming.

Well-aligned TiO2 nanorod arrays （TNAs） were prepared on pretreated quartz substrates via hydrothermal *** effect of the different preparation conditions on the growth morphologies of TNAs was systematically investigated by X-ray diffraction （XRD） and field-emission scanning electron microscopy （FE-SEM）.The photocatalytic properties were tested by photodegradation of a methyl blue *** is demonstrated that the hydrothermal reaction conditions,such as precursor concentration,hydrothermal reaction temperature,and hydrothermal reaction times,can greatly affect the growth of *** the preparation process,TNAs with 2 μm in length and 140-170 nm in diameter and well-aligned orientation have been successfully *** photocatalytic experiment results indicate that TNAs have much better photocatalytic activity than TiO2 nanoparticles.

Effects of Stokes production on summer ocean shelf dynamics

A two-dimensional numerical model,which is configured on the basis of Princeton ocean model（POM）,is used to study the effect of Stokes production（SP） of the turbulent kinetic energy on a density profile and Ekman transport in an idealized shelf region in *** energy input from SP is parameterized and included into the Mellor-Yamada turbulence closure *** reveal that the intensity of wind-driven upwelling fronts near the sea surface is weakened by the SP-associated turbulent kinetic energy *** vertical eddy viscosity coefficient in the surface boundary layer is enhanced greatly owing to the impact of SP,which decreases the alongshore velocity and changes the distribution of *** addition,the SP-induced mixing easily suppresses the strong stratification and significantly increases the depth of the upper mixed layer（ML） under strong winds.

The thermal diffusivity and heat capacity of β-SiAlON ceramics with different Z values(0.6,1.5,3.0) were measured by laser flash technique and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),*** thermal conductivity of β-SiAlON was calculated from thermal diffusivity,heat capacity and density and it decreased and then kept almost constant with increasing of *** different models representing effective thermal conductivity were established and the various parameters of these models were simulated based on the results from the present *** fitted regression lines were in good agreement with the experimental values.
