Correlation of tumor necrosis factor-β and interleukin-1 gene cluster polymorphism with susceptibility to bacteremia in patients undergoing kidney transplantation

Background Bacteremia remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality after kidney transplantation. This study was conducted to investigate whether the polymorphisms of tumor necrosis factor （TNF）-β, interleukin （IL）-1β, and IL-1 receptor antagonist （IL-lra） gene predicted the susceptibility to bacteremia within the first 6 months after kidney transplantation. Methods Subjects comprised 82 infected kidney transplant recipients and 60 non-infected kidney transplant recipients. Bacteremia was diagnosed in 16 of the 82 infected recipients. Genomic DNA from these 142 kidney transplant recipients was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes. Regions containing the Ncol polymorphic site at position ＋252 of TNF-β gene and the Aval polymorphic site at position -511 of IL-Iβ gene were amplified by polymerase chain reaction （PCR） and subsequently digested with Ncol and Aval restriction enzymes, respectively. The polymorphic regions within intron 2 of IL-lra gene containing variable numbers of a tandem repeat （VNTR） of 86 base pairs were amplified by PCR. Results Genotypic and allelic frequencies were similar between infected recipients and non-infected ones. Individual locus analysis showed that recipient TNF-β and IL-lra gene polymorphisms were not associated with the presence of bacteremia （P=0.684 and P=0.567, respectively）. However, genotype analysis revealed that recipient IL-1β 511CC genotype was strongly associated with susceptibility to develop bacteremia （P=0.003）. Recipient IL-1β-511CC genotype （odds ratio 5.242, 95% confidence intervals 1.645-16.706, P=0.005） independently predicted the risk for bacteremia within the first 6 months after kidney transplantation. Conclusions These findings indicate a critical role of IL-1β gene polymorphisms in susceptibility to bacteremia after kidney transplantation, which may be useful to screen for patients at higher risk for post-transplant bacteremias. Differences in willingness to donate cadaveric organ between young donor families and adult donor families： evidence from the Hunan Province, China

Background The Red Cross of China and Ministry of Health jointly started a pilot program of organ donation after cardiac death to overcome the shortage of available organs since 2010. The purpose of this qualitative study were to compare the consent rate of organ donation between young donor families and adult donor families; to explore and determine factors associated with differences in willingness to donate organs between them. Research objective was to provide a rationale for further preparation of professionals involved in this sensitive work. Methods Between March 2010 and June 2012, 24 young deceased patients including donors and non-donors and 96 potential adult donors were collected, and consent rates of young donors＇ families and adult donors＇ families were calculated. A X2 test analysis to compare the consent rates of the two groups was conducted. We studied through semi- structured interviews 15 parents of young donors and 15 relatives of old donors who were interviewed for petition of consent. Data collection and analysis of the overall study were performed according to the grounded theory methodology. Factors that influenced the families＇ decisions were identified and classified. We found the differences in willingness to donate organs between the two groups. Results The consent rate of young donor families was 66.67%, while the consent rate of adult donor families was 26.04%. Young donor families easily consented to organ donation than adult donor families （P〈0.005）. The donors＇ families had been affected by various factors throughout the process of deciding to give consent for donation. The findings led to the formulation of an empirically based model of interlinking categories that influence families＇ decision-making process in organ donation. The breaking of spin symmetry in the single-particle resonances in deformed nuclei

The exploration of spin symmetry (SS) in nuclear physics has been instrumental in identifying atomic nucleus *** this study,we solve the Dirac equation from the relativistic mean field (RMF) in complex momentum *** investigated SS and its breaking in single-particle resonant states within deformed nuclei,with a focus on the illustrative *** was the initial discovery of a resonant spin doublet in a deformed nucleus,with the expectation of the SS approaching the continuum *** increasing single-particle energy,the splitting of the resonant spin doublets widened *** escalating splitting implies diminishing adherence to the SS,indicating a departure from the expected behavior as the energy levels *** also analyzed the width of the resonant states,showing that lower orbital angular momentum resonances possess shorter decay times and that SS is preserved within broad resonant doublets,as opposed to narrow resonant *** the radial density of the upper components for the bound-state and resonant-state doublets,it becomes evident that while SS is well-preserved in the bound states,it deteriorates in the resonant *** impact of nuclear deformation (β_(2)) on SS was examined,demonstrating that an increase in β_(2) resulted in higher energy and width splitting in the resonant spin doublets,which is attributed to increased component ***,the sensitivity of spin doublets to various potential parameters such as surface diffuseness (a),radius (R),and depth (Σ0) is discussed,emphasizing the role of these parameters in *** study provides valuable insights into the behavior of spin doublets in deformed nuclei and their interplay with the nuclear structure,thereby advancing our understanding of SS in the resonance state.

BACNN: Multi-scale feature fusion-based bilinear attention convolutional neural network for wood NIR classification

Effective development and utilization of wood resources is *** modification research has become an integral dimension of wood science research,however,the similarities between modified wood and original wood render it challenging for accurate identification and classification using conventional image classification ***,the development of efficient and accurate wood classification techniques is *** paper presents a one-dimensional,convolutional neural network(i.e.,BACNN)that combines near-infrared spectroscopy and deep learning techniques to classify poplar,tung,and balsa woods,and PVA,nano-silica-sol and PVA-nano silica sol modified woods of *** results show that BACNN achieves an accuracy of 99.3%on the test set,higher than the 52.9%of the BP neural network and 98.7%of Support Vector Machine compared with traditional machine learning methods and deep learning based methods;it is also higher than the 97.6%of LeNet,98.7%of AlexNet and 99.1%of ***,the classification method proposed offers potential applications in wood classification,especially with homogeneous modified wood,and it also provides a basis for subsequent wood properties studies.

Rheological Behaviors of Polymers with Nanoparticles Tethered at Each End

The polymer with nanoparticles tethered at each end is a unique model for unraveling the effect of chain ends on the polymer dynamics. We investigated the rheological behavior of this kind of polymer by using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulation. The effect of polymer lengths and nanoparticle radii on the complex moduli and viscosity was examined. The dependence of complex moduli on the frequency becomes less pronounced as the polymer is short or the nanoparticle is large. The shear thinning behavior was revealed for these systems, and the scaling exponent of complex viscosity with respect to the frequency was found to change from-1/2 to-3/4 as the polymer shortens or the nanoparticle enlarges. The rheological behavior was further explained by analyzing the mean square distance of nanoparticles. The simulation results were compared with the existing experimental finding, showing an agreement. The work provides information for understanding the chain end effect on polymer rheology.

Dietary Supplementation of β-Carotene Reveals miRNAs Involved in the Regulation of Carotenoid Metabolism in Crassostrea gigas

Carotenoids play crucial physiological roles in animals.A comprehensive investigation into the mechanism of carotenoid metabolism in oysters will establish a theoretical foundation for further development of its carotenoid-rich ***,the information on the function of miRNA in β-carotene metabolism in oysters is *** elucidate the mechanisms underlying miRNA regulation of carotenoid metabolism in oysters,we compared the expressions of miRNA in digestive gland tissues of Pacific oyster(Crassostrea gigas)fed with aβ-carotene supplemented diet and a normal diet,respectively.A total of 690 candidate miRNAs in the Pacific oyster digestive gland tissues were identified,including 590 known miRNAs and 111 unknown *** differentially expressed miRNAs were obtained in the carotenoid-fed and normal groups,associated to 137 differentially expressed target ***,the GO enrichment analysis revealed that the differentially expressed target genes were mainly involved in transmembrane transport *** enrichment showed that the differentially expressed target genes were involved in ABC *** of the mRNA-miRNA network revealed that novel0025 played a central role in carotenoid metabolism,and it was negatively correlated with the expression of 46 *** addition,down-regulated expression of novel0025 upregulated the expression of the lipoprotein gene LOC105342186,suggesting a potential regulatory role in carotenoid *** results provide useful information for elucidating the miRNA regulation mechanism during carotenoids metabolism in the Pacific oyster.
