Socio-Ecological Vulnerabilities and Major Cereal Crops Production in Bangladesh

Bangladesh enjoys food self-sufficiency or deficiency depending on crop damages by drought, floods, cyclones, storm/tidal surges and other natural hazards. Data on climate extremes were collected from literatures. Landsat images were analyzed for water availability. Arithmetic, geometric and weighted means were calculated for community vulnerability delineation using IDRISI3.2. About 12.64% populations live in disaster prone areas and their sensitivity to exposed hazards depends on financial capabilities. Crop area damages by natural hazards were the highest in Dhaka division followed by Rajshahi division during 2009-2014. The highest economic loss ($613 million) was found in Barisal division followed by Dhaka ($198.7 million) division. Flooding was the most damaging climate extreme followed by drought and hailstorm. Rice crops are frequently exposed to climate extremes and caused economic loss of $228 million during 2009-2014. Economic losses were wheat/maize areas damaged by natural hazards. The most vulnerable areas are situated in the south-west and north-west part of the country. The most affected areas (35.4% of the country) had economic losses of $940-1,170 ha-1. About 2-4.7 million households (HH) were affected by different natural hazards in different regions of the country. Flood affected HHs were predominant in northern and north-east regions of the country. Common adaptations to natural hazard exposures are crop switching and migration. The other adaptation options could be improvement of post disaster recovery efficiency through financial support, supplying seeds and other inputs based on seasonal suitability.

The rapid advancement of nanotechnology has sparked much interest in applying nanoscale perovskite materials for photodetection *** materials are promising candidates for next-generation photodetectors(PDs)due to their unique optoelectronic properties and flexible synthesis *** review explores the approaches used in the development and use of optoelectronic devices made of different nanoscale perovskite architectures,including quantum dots,nanosheets,nanorods,nanowires,and *** a thorough analysis of recent literature,the review also addresses common issues like the mechanisms underlying the degradation of perovskite PDs and offers perspectives on potential solutions to improve stability and scalability that impede widespread *** addition,it highlights that photodetection encompasses the detection of light fields in dimensions other than light intensity and suggests potential avenues for future research to overcome these obstacles and fully realize the potential of nanoscale perovskite materials in state-of-the-art photodetection *** review provides a comprehensive overview of nanoscale perovskite PDs and guides future research efforts towards improved performance and wider applicability,making it a valuable resource for researchers.

Analysis of highly efficient perovskite solar cells with inorganic hole transport material

Organo-halide perovskites in planar heterojunction architecture have shown considerable promise as efficient light harvesters in solar cells. we carry out a numerical modeling of a planar lead based perovskite solar cell(PSC) with Cu2ZnSnS4(CZTS) as the hole transporting material(HTM) using the one-dimensional solar cell capacitance simulator(SCAPS-1 D). The effects of numerous parameters such as defect density, thickness, and doping density of the absorber layer on the device performance are investigated. The doping densities and electron affinities of the electron transporting material(ETM) and the HTM are also varied to optimize the PSC performance. It has been observed that a thinner absorber layer of220 nm with a defect density of 1014 cm-3 compared to the reference structure improves the device performance. when doping density of the absorber layer increases beyond 2×1016 cm-3, the power conversion efficiency(PCE) reduces due to enhanced recombination rate. The defect density at the absorber/ETM interface reduces the PCE as well. Considering a series resistance of 5 ?·cm2 and all the optimum parameters of absorber, ETM and HTM layers simultaneously, the overall PCE of the device increases significantly. In comparison with the reference structure, the PCE of the optimized device has been increased from 12.76% to 22.7%, and hence the optimized CZTS based PSC is highly efficient.

Metal-organic framework(MOF)-derived catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis: Recent progress and future perspectives

Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis(FTS) is an important catalytic chemical reaction that converts a mixture of CO and H2(syngas) derived from biomass, coal or natural gas into ultra-clean fuels or value-added chemicals. However, most traditional catalysts used in the Fischer-Tropsch process are faced with the problems of high deactivation rate triggered by sintering, phase changes and oxidation which hamper their catalytic performance. Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)-derived materials have been a promising alternative in addressing the catalyst deactivation problems in FTS because of the encapsulation of their metal nanoparticles in carbon matrix and absence of large particle size, among other reasons. Therefore, this review emphasizes the most recent research headway in the investigation of MOFs as precursors to achieve high-performance FTS catalysts. Precisely, the design of iron and cobalt-based FTS catalysts from parent MOFs via MOF-mediated synthesis, the catalytic activity of the MOF-derived materials and the promoter effects under FTS operation were outlined and discussed. we have also evaluated the influence of MOF structures on the FTS performance and compared them with traditional/commercially available catalysts to show the importance of this approach. Finally, the challenges and opportunities to further expedite the extensive research efforts and promote their applications in material design and FT technology were mentioned.

Dynamic modeling of a three-dimensional braided composite thin plate considering braiding directions

Currently, there are a limited number of dynamic models available for braided composite plates with large overall motions, despite the incorporation of three-dimensional(3D) braided composites into rotating blade components. In this paper, a dynamic model of 3D 4-directional braided composite thin plates considering braiding directions is established. Based on Kirchhoff's plate assumptions, the displacement variables of the plate are expressed. By incorporating the braiding directions into the constitutive equation of the braided composites, the dynamic model of the plate considering braiding directions is obtained. The effects of the speeds, braiding directions, and braided angles on the responses of the plate with fixed-axis rotation and translational motion, respectively, are investigated. This paper presents a dynamic theory for calculating the deformation of 3D braided composite structures undergoing both translational and rotational motions. It also provides a simulation method for investigating the dynamic behavior of non-isotropic material plates in various applications.
