The boring billion? - Lid tectonics, continental growth and environmental change associated with the Columbia supercontinent

The evolution of Earth＇s biosphere,atmosphere and hydrosphere is tied to the formation of continental crust and its subsequent movements on tectonic *** supercontinent cycle posits that the continental crust is periodically amalgamated into a single landmass,subsequently breaking up and dispersing into various continental *** is possibly the first true supercontinent,it amalgamated during the 2.0-1.7 Ga period,and collisional orogenesis resulting from its formation peaked at 1.95-1.85 *** and palaeomagnetic evidence indicate that Columbia remained as a quasi-integral continental lid until at least 1.3 *** break-up attempts are evidenced by dyke swarms with a large temporal and spatial range; however,palaeomagnetic and geologic evidence suggest these attempts remained *** than dispersing into continental fragments,the Columbia supercontinent underwent only minor modifications to form the next supercontinent （Rodinia） at 1.1 -0.9 Ga; these included the transformation of external accretionary belts into the internal Grenville and equivalent collisional *** Columbia provides evidence for a form of ‘lid tectonics’,modern style plate tectonics occurred on its periphery in the form of accretionary *** detrital zircon and preserved geological record are compatible with an increase in the volume of continental crust during Columbia＇s lifespan; this is a consequence of the continuous accretionary processes along its *** quiescence in plate tectonic movements during Columbia＇s lifespan is correlative with a long period of stability in Earth＇s atmospheric and oceanic *** variability starting at 1.3 Ga in the environmental record coincides with the transformation of Columbia to Rodinia; thus,the link between plate tectonics and environmental change is strengthened with this interpretation of supercontinent history.

wavelet transforms (wT) are proposed as an alternative tool to overcome the limitations of Fourier transforms (FFT) in the analysis of electrochemical noise (En) data. The most relevant feature of this method of analysis is its capability of decomposing electrochemical noise records into different sets of wavelet coefficients, which contain information about the time scale characteristic of the associated corrosion event. In this context, the potential noise fluctuations during the free corrosion of pure aluminum in sodium chloride solution was recorded and analyzed with wavelet transform technique. The typical results showed that the En signal is composed of distinct type of events, which can be classified according to their scales, i.e. their time constants. Meanwhile, the energy distribution plot (EdP) can be used as 'fingerprints' of En signals and can be very useful for analyzing En data in the future.

1 Introduction heart rhythm disorders, including bradyarrhythmias, atrial fibrillation （AF）, and ventricular arrhythmias, become increasingly common with aging and represent important causes of morbidity and mortality among older adults.[1-3] Older adults are particularly predisposed to these conditions due to the high prevalence of cardiovascular disease in con- junction with age-related changes that occur in the heart and cardiac conduction system.

Is a nanorod (or nanotube) with a lower Young’s modulus stiffer? Is not Young’s modulus a stiffness indicator?

It has been a known fact in classical mechanics of materials that Young’s modulus is an indicator of material stiffness and materials with a higher Young’s modulus are stiffer. At the nanoscale, within the scope and under specific circumstances described in this paper, however, a nanorod (or a nanotube) with a smaller Young’s modulus (smaller stress-strain rate) is stiffer. In such a scenario, Young’s modulus is not a stiffness indicator for nanostructures. Furthermore, the nonlocal stress-strain rate is dependent on types of load, boundary conditions and location. This is likely to be one of the many possible reasons why numerous experiments in the past obtained significantly varying values of Young’s modulus for a seemingly identical nanotube, i.e. because the types of loading and/or boundary conditions in the experiments were different, as well as at which point the property was measured. Based on the nonlocal elasticity theory and within the scope of material and geometric linearity, this paper reports the strange and hitherto unrealized effect that a nanorod (or a nanotube) with a lower Young’s modulus (smaller stress-strain rate) indicates smaller extension in tensile analysis. Similarly, it is also predicted that a nanorod (or a nanotube) with a lower Young’s modulus results in smaller bending deflection, higher critical buckling load, higher free vibration frequency and higher wave propagation velocity, which are at all consequences of a stiffer nanostructure.

BACKGROUnd Violence against healthcare workers(hCws)in the Caribbean continues to prevail yet remains *** aim is to determine the cause,traits,and consequences of violence on hCws in the *** To determine the cause,traits,and consequences of violence on hCws in the *** This research adopted an online cross-sectional survey approach,spanning over eight weeks(between June 6th and August 9th,2022).The survey was generated using Research Electronic data Capture forms and followed a snowballing strategy to contact individuals using emails,social media,text messages,*** regression analysis was performed to evaluate the variables that influence violence,including gender,age,years of experience,institution type,and night shift *** The survey was completed by 225 *** comprised 61%.Over 51%of respondents belonged to the 21 to 35 age ***(n=61),haiti(n=50),and Grenada(n=31)had the most *** hCws(49%)worked for government academic institutions,followed by community hospitals(23%).Medical students(32%),followed by attending physicians(22%),and others(16%)comprised the most common cadre of *** 39%of the participants reported experiencing violence themselves,and 18%reported violence against colleague(s).Verbal violence(48%),emotional abuse(24%),and physical misconduct(14%)were the most common types of *** 63%of respondents identified patients or their relatives as the most frequent *** logistic regression analyses demonstrated that female gender(OR=2.08;95%CI:1.16-3.76,P=0.014)and higher frequency of night shifts(OR=2.22;95%CI:1.08-4.58,P=0.030)were associated with significantly higher odds of experiencing *** than 50%of hCws felt less motivated and had decreased job satisfaction post-violent *** A large proportion of hCwS in the Caribbean are exposed to violence,yet the phenomenon remains *** a result,hCws’job s

Pathophysiology of pulmonary complications of acute pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis in its severe form is complicated by multiple organ system dysfunction, most importantly by pulmonary complications which include hypoxia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, atelectasis, and pleural effusion. The pathogenesis of some of the above complications is attributed to the production of noxious cytokines. Clinically significant is the early onset of pleural effusion, which heralds a poor outcome of acute pancreatitis. The role of circulating trypsin, phospholipase A2, platelet activating factor, release of free fatty acids, chemoattractants such as tumor necrsosis factor （TnF）- alpha, interleukin （IL）-1, IL-6, IL-8, fMet-leu-phe （a bacterial wall product）, nitric oxide, substance P, and macrophage inhlbitor factor is currently studied. The hope is that future management of acute pancreatitis with a better understanding of the pathogenesis of lung injury will be directed against the production of noxious cytokines.

This is a multidimensional review of mangrove fungi occurring as saprobes,pathogens and endophytes of a wide range of host substrates and those isolated from the water columns and sediments in ***-hundred and fifty taxa including 658 that are supported by both morphology and molecular data and 192 with only morphological data are *** constitute Ascomycota,the dominant group with 773 species,and 58 Basidiomycota,one Blastocladiomycota,five Chytridiomycota,and 13 *** study also includes data on mangrove yeasts 103 Ascomycota,39 Basidi-omycota and 193 taxa isolated from *** isolated from submerged parts of mangrove plants total *** most specious orders of mangrove fungi are Pleosporales 133,Saccharomycetales 102,Microascales 101,Eurotiales 87,hypocreales 60 and Xylariales *** genera include Candida 39,Aspergillus 53,Penicillium 17 and Corollospora *** highest number of mangrove fungi have been recorded from the Pacific Ocean 553,which is the largest ocean,followed by Indian 408 and Atlantic Oceans *** distribution of mangrove fungi varied from ocean to ocean with only 109 taxa common to the Atlantic,Indian and Pacific *** the various countries reported for mangrove fungi,India accommodates the highest number(339)followed by Thailand 303,Malaysia 171,Florida Everglades,USA 134 and Brunei 134.A total of 60 different mangrove plants and their associates have been surveyed for mangrove *** results are discussed and compared with previous studies.
