Effective diffusivity of a Janus sphere in an external field

During nearly 200 years of development in the knowledge of Brownian motion, the Janus sphere, as a typical Brownian particle with special surface properties, has been widely studied in the past few decades. A standard Janus sphere possesses two distinct surfaces. These two surfaces elicit different hydrodynamic interactions with ambient fluids or other interactions in response to environmental stimuli, such as chemical gradients, magnetic fields, and even light. The diffusion of Janus spheres, particularly when controlled by a remotely applied field, has inspired various applications, ranging from the design of micro-swimmers and novel procedures for probing the mechanical properties of suspensions to the fabrication of composites with enhanced performance. In this work, we report a systematic analysis of field-controlled diffusion of Janus spheres. Commencing with stochastic differential equations of motion at the microscale, we derive a coarse-grained Fokker-Planck equation at the macroscale, describing the evolution of the probability distribution function of the Janus sphere in terms of its position and orientation. leveraging the concept of the hydrodynamic center, we derive, for the first time,explicit generalized Stokes-Einstein relations for long-time effective diffusivity, incorporating the effects of both the surface discontinuity of the Janus sphere and the external fields. The formulae enable predictions of the effective diffusivity as it varies with the slip length and characteristic angle of Janus spheres, and reveal the impact of an aligning potential field on the diffusion coefficients both parallel and perpendicular to the direction of the field. This work not only deepens the understanding of field-controlled diffusion of Janus particles, but also holds a meaningful impact on the future applications in microfluidics and related fields.

Background: Producing rainfed cotton(gossypium hirsutum l.) with high fiber quality has been challenging in the Texas High Plains because of extended periods of insufficient rainfall during sensitive boll developmental *** variation created by Ethyl MethaneSulfonate(EMS) mutagen has successfully improved fiber quality of cotton. However, little is known about the effect of water deficit environments on fiber quality. Three EMS treated populations were advanced from the first to the fourth generation(M1 to M4) as bulk harvested populations. In2014, single-plant divergent selection was applied based on perceived morphological and agronomic differences seen during and at the end of the ***: Analyses from these selections in 2014-2016 showed significant(Pween and within populations for fiber traits(micronaire, length, strength, uniformity, and elongation) when compared with the original non-treated EMS source; some selections were found to have excellent fiber quality under diverse ***: Some of these selections are being considered for germplasm release and could be useful for improving the fiber quality of cotton under water limited conditions, thereby helping to ensure the long-term survival of the cotton industry on the Texas High Plains.

The authors consider the problem of reaching consensus over a communication network via asynchronous interaction between pairs of agents. A well-known method is the linear gossip algorithm due to Tsitsiklis(1984). Extension of this, allowing the selection of a strictly stationary sequence of communicating pairs, was given in Picci and Taylor(2013). Extension of the linear gossip algorithm to directed communication networks, retaining the linear dynamics, was proposed by Cai and Ishii(2012),later extended by Silvestre, et al.(2018). A definite novelty of these algorithms is that l2-convergence with exponential rate can be established. The authors attend the above issues, extending the result of Picci and Taylor(2013) motivated by features of algorithms for directed networks. The authors present and discuss the algorithm of Silvestre, et al.(2018), together with systematic simulation results based on 5M randomly chosen parameter settings. The core of the proposed mathematical technology is a set of simple observations, presented with a tutorial aspect, by which the authors can conveniently establish various results on the almost sure convergence of products of strictly stationary sequences of matrices to a rank-1 matrix.

The Co3 Ti phase hardens appreciably by the fine precipitation of disordered fcc Co-rich phase upon aging after quenching from solution annealing temperature. Transmission electron microscope (TEM)observations revealed that the precipitates are platelet in shape, lying nearly parallel to the {100} planes of the l12-ordered matrix, and perfectly coherent with the matrix lattice at the beginning of aging. The high temperature strength increases appreciably with the fine precipitation of disondered Co-rich phase over the whole temperature range investigated. TEM observations of the deformed alloys after underaging revealed that saperdislocations are pinned by precipitates indicating an attractive interaction between dislocations and precipitates.

During the non-breeding season(September–April), Black-tailed godwits(limosa limosa) are commonly seen in coastal and inland wetlands of the ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta in Bangladesh. we hypothesize that the ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta, at the overlap between the Central Asian and East Asian–Australasian flyways, may host three subspecies that breed in disjunct areas of temperate and northern Asia: l. l. limosa, l. l. melanuroides, and l. l. bohaii. we used mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA) haplotype network and biometric analysis to determine subspecies in captured individuals, and deployed gPS–gSM transmitters to verify breeding areas of individuals with subspecies assignments. To test for differential habitat preferences, we sampled birds at two ecologically distinct habitats known to host the largest concentrations of non-breeding Black-tailed godwits in Bangladesh: Nijhum Dweep National Park, a tidal coastal habitat with brackish water on the south-central coast, and Tanguar Haor(‘backmarsh'), a seasonal freshwater floodplain in the north. During the non-breeding seasons of 2021–2022 and 2022–2023, we sampled and measured 93 Black-tailed godwits, 54 of which were equipped with gPS–gSM transmitters. Our mt DNA haplotype network analysis confirmed the presence of limosa, melanuroides, and bohaii subspecies at the study sites. Thus, indeed, Black-tailed godwits subspecies, despite having distinct breeding ranges, exhibit(partially) overlapping non-breeding ranges in Asia. The subspecies composition differed significantly between sites, with limosa and bohaii dominating in Tanguar Haor and melanuroides in Nijhum Dweep. Of the 21 individuals that were tracked to their breeding grounds, 18 migrated to the expected breeding range of their respective subspecies. However, one bird with a limosa haplotype migrated to a known breeding area of bohaii, whereas two birds with melanuroides haplotypes migrated to the supposed breeding range of limosa. The electrochemical behavior of a carboxyl-modified carbon nanotube films was investigated to explore its possibility in electroanalytical applicaton. Cyclic voltammetry of quinone was conducted in 1mol/l Na2SO4, which showed a stable, quasi-reversible voltammetric response for quinone / hydroquinone, and the anodic and the cathodic peak potentials were 0.657V and -0.029V (vs. SCE) at a scan rate of 0.1V.s-1, respectively. Both anodic and cathodic peak currents depended linearly on the square root of the scan rate over the range of 0.01-0.5V.s-1, which suggested that the process of the electrode reactions was diffusion-controlled. Carboxyl-modified carbon nanotube electrodes made it possible to determine low level of dopamine selectively in the presence of a large excess of ascorbic acid in acidic media using derivative voltammetry. The results obtained were discussed in details. This work demonstrates the potential of carboxyl-modified carbon nanotube electrodes for electroanalytical applications.

The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope （FAST） is the most sensitive telescope at the l-band（1.0–1.5 gHz） and has been used to carry out the FAST galactic Plane Pulsar Snapshot （gPPS） survey in the las5 *** to now,the survey has covered one-fourth of the planned areas within±10~ofrom the galactic plane visible by FAST,and discovered 751 *** the first publication of the discovery of 201 pulsars and one rotating radio transient （RRAT） in 2021 and 76 RRATs in 2023,here we report the discovery of 473 new pulsars from the FAST gPPS survey,including 137 new millisecond pulsars and 30 new *** find 34 millisecond pulsars discovered by the gPPS survey which can be timed with a precision better than 3μs by using FAST15 minute observations and can be used for pulsar timing *** gPPS survey has discovered eight pulsars with periods greater than 10 s including one with 29.77 *** integrated profiles of pulsars and individual pulses of RRATs are *** the FAST gPPS survey,we also detected previously known pulsars and updated parameters for 52 *** addition,we discovered two fast radio bursts plus one probable case with high dispersion measures indicating their extragalactic origin.
