Evaluation of a hepatic biomarker of nutritional imbalance in juvenile red drum(Sciaenops ocellatus) fed 60% soybean meal-based diets using NMR-based metabolomics

A 12-week feeding trial with juvenile red drum(Sciaenops ocellatus) fed high-soybean meal(SBM) diets was conducted to investigate a putative biomarker of nutritional imbalance, N-formimino-L-glutamate(FIGLU). Three fishmeal-free, 60% SBM pelleted diets(named B12, Fol, and Met, respectively) were tested to evaluate the effects on growth performance and tissue metabolite profiles of supplementation of vitamin B12(0.012 mg/kg), folate(10 mg/kg), methionine(1 g/kg) respectively, above basal supplementation levels. A fourth SBM-based diet(named B12/Fol/Met) was formulated with a combination of B12, folate, and methionine to attain the above-mentioned target concentrations. A fifth 60% SBM diet(named FwS) with methionine supplementation(1 g/kg above basal supplementation levels), enriched with taurine, lysine and threonine as well as minerals, was also tested. This diet contained formulation targets and additives which have allowed for replacing fishmeal with plant proteins in rainbow trout feeds. Control diets included a fishmeal-based diet(named FM), an unsupplemented basal 60% SBM diet(named SBM60), and a “natural” diet(named N) made up of equal parts of fish(cigar minnows), squid and shrimp as a positive reference for growth performance. Formulated feeds contained approximately 37% total crude protein, approximately 14% total crude lipid and were energetically balanced. Standard growth performance metrics were measured, and tissues(liver, muscle) were collected at week 12 to evaluate diet-induced metabolic changes using nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)-based *** results show that the FwS diet outperformed all other SBM diets and the FM diet under all performance metrics(Pwas not detected in fish fed the N diet but was detected in those fed the SBM diets and the FM diet. Precipitation of multi-type nano-quasicrystals in a Mg-Zn-Y alloy

Superdirective Circular Arrays of Electric and Huygens Dipole Elements

Uniform circular arrays(UCAs)provide both omnidirectional(360°)and directive(sector)coverage of the azimuthal *** versions with unidirectional,high front-to-back ratio(FTBR)properties could provide the radiated field char-acteristics being pursued for NextG wireless networks and their perceived *** UCA configurations–full,semi-circular,and sector–that radiate vertically-polarized(VP)fields and are composed of either omnidirectional electric dipole ele-ments or unidirectional Huygens dipole elements are analyzed first with conventional methods as reference *** omni-and uni-directional element configurations are then treated with several optimization techniques:the classic Rayleigh-quotient(RQ)method and its unidirectional-constrained version;the eigenbeam decomposition and synthesis(EBDS)technique used to design su-perdirective acoustic receiving arrays;and the Bessel-azimuthal multipole(BEAM)approach developed *** arrays are identified as being superdirective with extremely high FTBR *** performance characteristics of the arrays of unidirectional elements are demonstrated to be superior in ***,it is shown that larger radius arrays with RQ-specified excitation amplitudes are robust to changes in them whereas the outcomes of the corresponding small radius versions are *** the other hand,the BEAM-optimized densely-packed small-radius superdirective arrays are quite tolerant to those variations while generating unidirectional pseudo-needle beams.

The cell-specific functions of nitric oxide(NO)in the intestinal microenvironment orchestrate its therapeutic effects in ulcerative *** most biomaterials show promise by eliciting the characteristics of NO,the insufficient storage,burst release,and pro-inflammatory side effects of NO remain as ***,we report the development of thiol-disulfide hybrid mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles(MONs)that improve the storage and sustained release of NO,broadening the therapeutic window of NO-based therapy against *** tailored NO-storing nanomaterials coordinated the release of NO and the immunoregulator dexamethasone(Dex)in the intestinal microenvironment,specifically integrating the alleviation of oxidative stress in enterocytes and the reversal of NO-exacerbated macrophage ***,such a synchronous operation was achieved by a self-motivated process wherein the thiyl radicals produced by NO release cleaved the disulfide bonds to degrade the matrix and release Dex via thiol-disulfide ***,the MON-mediated combination of NO and Dex greatly ameliorated intractable colitis compared with 5-aminosalicylic acid,even after delayed ***,our results reveal a key contribution of synergistic modulation of the intestinal microenvironment in NO-based colitis therapy and introduce thiol-disulfide hybrid nanotherapeutics for the management of inflammatory diseases and cancer.

Polar Models of Culture-Regressivism Versus Progressivism

The culture wars that simmer within any nation may have been escalating recently;but regardless of their national settings or milieus,many of these wars are informed by two opposing paradigms of *** paper analyzes two of these leading paradigms,designated here as Regressivism and *** theorists have long chronicled the differing strengths and weaknesses of these paradigms,taking the former as expressing more conservative,traditional,and nationalistic values,and the latter as expressing more liberal,pluralistic,and cosmopolitan *** beyond these perennial distinctions,I argue that Progressivism is more benign and beneficial than the former-by meeting basic human needs better and supporting more effective adaptation to changing exigencies.I also argue that Progressivism does not express merely subjective or relativistic preferences and values,but objectively preferable and quantifiable ones,that benefit not only our personal lives more but also our global village and communal lives more.

Nickel sulfate solution fluoride separation with hydrous zirconium oxide
