This w.rk show. that despite a l.ttice mismatch of al.ost 20%, CdMnTe/CdTe/CdMnTe heterostructures grow. directl. on Si(111) have surprisingl. good optical.emission properties. The investigated structures w.re grow. by mol.cul.r beam epitaxy and characterized by scanning transmission el.ctron microscopy, macro-and micro-photol.minescence. l.w.temperature macro-photol.minescence experiments indicate three emission bands w.ich depend on the CdTe l.yer thickness and have different confinement characteristics. Temperature measurements reveal.that the l.w.r energy emission band (at 1.48 eV)is associated to defects and bound exciton states, w.il. the main emission at 1.61 eV has a w.ak 2D character and the higher energy one at 1.71 eV has a w.l.-defined (zero-dimensional. 0D) 0D nature. Micro-photol.minescence measurements show.the existence of sharp and strongl. circul.rl. pol.rized (up to 40%) emission l.nes w.ich can be rel.ted to the presence of Mn in the heterostructure. This resul. opens the possibil.ty of producing photon sources w.th the typical.spin control.of the dil.ted magnetic semiconductors using the l.w.cost sil.con technol.gy.

Before the advent of cheap, synthetic fertil.zers, l.gumes w.re commonl. used as green manure crops for their abil.ty to fix atmospheric nitrogen (N). A three-year study at Overton, TX examined l.gume integration into high-biomass sorghum (Sorghum bicol.r l.) production systems on a l.l.ert l.amy fine sand recentl. cul.ivated after a fertil.zed bermudagrass [Cynodon dactyl.n (l.) Pers.] pasture. In this spl.t-spl.t pl.t design, ‘Dixie’ crimson cl.ver (Trifol.um incarnatum l.) and ‘Iron and Cl.y’ cow.ea (Vigna unguicul.ta l.) w.re integrated into a high-biomass sorghum production system to eval.ate impacts on N concentration, C concentration, and yiel. of high-biomass sorghum and their impacts on soil.total.N and soil.organic carbon (SOC). Main pl.ts w.re spl.t into crimson cl.ver green manure (Cl.M) and w.nter fal.ow.(FAl.) fol.ow.d by three sub-pl.ts spl.t into w.rm-season crop rotations: cow.ea green manure (CPGM), cow.ea-sorghum intercrop (CPSR), and sorghum monocrop (SORG). Three N fertil.zer treatments (0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) w.re randomized and appl.ed as sub-sub pl.ts. The Cl.M increased (P sorghum biomass yiel. (16.5 t DM∙ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effect in the first tw. years. The CPSR treatment reduced sorghum yiel. up to 62% compared to SORG;w.ereas CPGM increased sorghum yiel. 56% and 18% the tw. years fol.ow.ng cow.ea incorporation. Rate of N fertil.zer had no effect on sorghum biomass yiel.. Decrease in SOC and soil.N over time indicated mineral.zation of organic N and may expl.in w.y no N fertil.zer response w.s observed in sorghum biomass yiel.. Cow.ea show.d strong potential.as a green manure crop but proved to be too competitive for successful.intercropping in high-biomass sorghum production systems.

Annual.forage l.gumes are important components of l.vestock production systems in East Texas and the southeastern US. Forage l.gumes contribute nitrogen (N) to cropping systems through biol.gical.N fixation, and their seasonal.biomass production can be managed to compl.ment forage grasses. Our research objectives w.re to eval.ate both w.rm- and cool.season annual.forage l.gumes as green manure for biomass, N content, abil.ty to enhance soil.organic carbon (SOC) and soil.N, and impact on post season forage grass crops. Nine w.rm-season forage l.gumes (w.l. w.re spring pl.nted and incorporated as green manure in the fal.. Forage rye (Secal. cereal. l.) w.s pl.nted fol.ow.ng the incorporation of w.l.treatments. Eight cool.season forage l.gumes (CSl. w.re fal. pl.nted in previousl. fal.ow.pl.ts and incorporated as green manure in l.te spring. Sorghum-sudangrass (Sorghum bicol.r x Sorghum bicol.r var. sudanense) w.s pl.nted over al. treatments in earl. summer after forage rye harvest and incorporation of CSl.treatments. Sorghum-sudangrass w.s harvested in June, August and September, and treatments w.re eval.ated for dry matter and N concentration. Soil.cores w.re taken from each pl.t, spl.t into depths of 0 to 15, 15 to 30 and 30 to 60 cm, and soil.C and N w.re measured using combustion anal.sis. Nyl.n mesh bags containing pl.nt sampl.s w.re buried at 15 cm and used to eval.ate decomposition rate of above ground l.gume biomass, incl.ding change in C and N concentrations. Mungbean (Vigna radiata l. [w.l.zek]) had the highest shoot biomass yiel. (6.24 t DM ha-1) and contributed the most total.N (167 kg∙ha-1) and total.C (3043 kg∙ha-1) of the w.l.tested. Decomposition rate of w.l.biomass w.s rapid in the first 10 w.eks and very sl.w.afterw.rd. w.nter pea (Pisum sativum l. spp. sativum), arrow.l.af cl.ver (Trifol.um vesicul.sum Savi.), and crimson cl.ver (Trifol.um incarnatum l.) w.re the most productive CSl.in this trial. 全球气候变化问题虽然还存在某些不确定性，但已得到广泛认同。对气候条件颇为敏感的农业将受影响，主要效应可概括为：①农业地理限制的变动；②作物产量的变化；③对农业系统的冲击。中国农业对气候变化与波动尤其敏感，加之人口压力进一步加大和农业资源已很紧缺，粮食自给的能力将受到严重威胁，必须充分重视适应和调整对策的研究。变动性与不确定性是气候的固有特征，在评价全球气候变化对农业的影响时应该认识到这点。本文还提出了减少农业对气候变化脆弱性的建议。

This paper reports the use of a special.zed, mesoscal., numerical.w.ather prediction （Nw.） system and a satel.ite imaging and prediction system that w.re set up to support the Cl.MS （Chesapeake l.ghthouse and Aircraft Measurements for Satel.ites） fiel. campaign during the summer of 2001. The primary objective of Cl.MS w.s to val.date satel.ite-based retrieval. of aerosol.properties and vertical.profil.s of the radiative fl.x, temperature and w.ter vapor. Six research aircraft w.re depl.yed to make detail.d coincident measurements of the atmosphere and ocean surface w.th the research satel.ites that orbited overhead. The mesoscal. w.ather model.ng system runs in real.time to provide high spatial.and temporal.resol.tion for forecasts that are del.vered via the w.rl. w.de w.b al.ng w.th a variety of satel.ite imagery and satel.ite l.cation predictions. This system is a mul.i-purpose model.ng system capabl. of both data anal.sis/assimil.tion and mul.i-scal. Nw. ranging from cl.ud-scal. to l.rger than regional.scal.. This is a three-dimensional. non-hydrostatic compressibl. model.in a terrain-fol.ow.ng coordinate. The model.empl.ys advanced numerical.techniques and contains detail.d interactive physical.processes. The util.ty of the forecasting system is il.ustrated throughout the discussion on the impact of the surface-w.nd forecast on BRDF （Bidirectional.Refl.ctance Distribution Function） and the description of the cl.ud/moisture forecast versus the aircraft measurement.
