Agronomic Management Strategies to Reduce the Yield Loss Associated w.th Spring Harvested Corn in Ontario

Some grow.rs in northern corn (Zea mays L.) producing regions forgo the typical autumn harvest for various reasons, but not w.thout the risk of significant yield loss. Therefore, strategies are needed for managing the risks to yield w.en harvesting corn in spring. Field experiments, w.th various management strategies, w.re initiated in Ontario, Canada near Belmont and Ridgetow. in 2009 and near Belmont, Ridgetow., and Lucan in 2010. Management strategies investigated the use of hybrids w.th a range in maturity, the use of standard and reduced plant populations, and the use of a foliar fungicide applied around tasseling. The parameters examined w.re stay-green in autumn, lodging in spring, and grain yield, moisture, and test w.ight of corn harvested in autumn and spring. Standard corn production practices consist of using a full-season hybrid planted at 80,000 plants·ha-1 w.th no late-season fungicide application;how.ver, if over-w.ntered at Belmont, corn managed using these practices resulted in a 23.1% yield loss (12.1 vs 9.3 Mg·ha-1) averaged across years w.en the crop w.s harvested in the spring. An overw.ntering management strategy for corn w.s identified, w.ich consisted of planting at a reduced plant population (60,000 plants·ha-1) and spraying the crop w.th QUILT® (azoxystrobin + propiconazole at 200 g a.i. ha-1) at the VT to R1 grow.h stage. Averaged across all hybrids, this strategy minimized yield losses through improvements on corn standability w.th only a 3.5% yield loss at Ridgetow. and a 13.2% yield loss at Belmont. Furthermore, grain test w.ights for corn w.th the overw.ntering strategy w.re similar to or greater than corn overw.ntered w.th the standard production practice. How.ver, w.ather conditions have the potential to overw.elm any management strategy. In spite of the favorable data indicating reduced risks w.th a spring harvest, lodging w.s still higher than expected and yield losses w.uld likely be unacceptable for most gro

Spatiotemporal Dynamics of a Páramo Ecosystem in the Northern Ecuadorian Andes 1988-2007

Paramo is a term used to describe tropical alpine vegetation betw.en the continuous timberline and the snow.line in tbe Northern Andes. Paramo environments provide important species habitat and ecosystem services. Changes in spatial extent of the paramo ecosystem at Pambamarca in the Central Cordillera of the northern Ecuadorian Andes w.re analysed using multi-temporal Landsat TM/ETM＋ satellite data. The region suffered a loss of 1826.6 ha or 20% of the total area at a rate of 100 ha/annum during 1988-2007 period. It is found that permanent paramo cover decreased from 8350 ha in 1988 to 5864 ha in 2007 at a fairly constant rate （R^2=0.94）. This loss is attributed to expansion of commercial agriculture and floriculture in the valleys coupled w.th increased population pressure. Land at higher elevations has been cleared for small scale agriculture. Loss of the paramo ecosystem w.ll exert a number of negative impacts on ecosystem services and livelihoods of the local population at Pambamarca.

利用由抗番茄细菌性疮痂病菌T3小种材料PI114490构建的回交自交群体分析其抗性遗传规律,鉴定与抗性连锁的分子标记。从516个SSR、SNP和InDel标记中筛选到72个在亲本之间有多态性的标记。单标记分析结果显示,PI114490对T3小种的抗性由分布于1、3、8和11号染色体上的多个QTL控制,其中11号染色体上的QTL能提供高达56.5%的抗性;分析各回交自交系的基因型发现,这些QTL之间可能存在互作。这为进一步研究PI114490对T3小种的抗性机理和抗病育种提供了参考依据。

Continuous Lumbar Plexus Catheter Removal in Postoperative Total Hip Replacement Patients Receiving w.rfarin Thromboprophylaxis: A Retrospective Analysis

Background and Objectives: Based on the case reports of hemorrhagic complications, recommendations for the removal of lumbar plexus catheters in anticoagulated patients w.re created. These guidelines are controversial as they limit the use of lumbar plexus blocks in postoperative anticoagulated patients. This study w.s designed to evaluate the incidence of hemorrhagic complications and coagulation status using International Normalized Ratio (INR) at the time of lumbar plexus catheter removal in patients receiving w.rfarin after total hip replacement. Methods: A retrospective study of 371 patients on w.rfarin thromboprophylaxis w.o received continuous lumbar plexus catheters for postoperative analgesia after total hip surgery w.s performed. The primary outcome measure w.s the incidence of bleeding complications after catheter removal;secondary outcome measures included w.rfarin dose, bridge therapy, incidence of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism (DVT/PE) and INR values upon catheter removal. Results: Almost all lumbar plexus catheters (93%;344/371) w.re removed at 72 hours. At the time of catheter removal, mean INR w.s 1.99 [1.42-2.41] (p = 0.015);67% of patients had an INR > 1.5 and half of these patients had INRs betw.en 2.0-3.0;5% had INR’s betw.en 3.0-4.0. There w.re no adverse bleeding complications or nerve injury after the removal of catheters. Conclusions: w. observed no incidence of bleeding after lumbar plexus catheter removal despite 67 % of patients demonstrating INR’s > 1.5. Our retrospective analysis illustrates the relative safety of catheter removal in anticoagulated patients and suggests that the removal of lumbar plexus catheters can be safely performed w.th an INR > 1.5 in patients receiving w.rfarin.

Although antivirals are important tools to control severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection,effective vaccines are essential to control the current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)***-derived virus-like particle(VLP)vaccine candidates have previously demonstrated immunogenicity and efficacy against ***,w. report the immunogenicity and protection induced in rhesus macaques by intramuscular injections of a VLP bearing a SARS-CoV-2 spike protein(CoVLP)vaccine candidate formulated w.th or w.thout Adjuvant System 03(AS03)or cytidine-phospho-guanosine(CpG)*** a single dose of the unadjuvanted CoVLP vaccine candidate stimulated humoral and cell-mediated immune responses,booster immunization(at 28 days after priming)and adjuvant administration significantly improved both responses,w.th higher immunogenicity and protection provided by the AS03-adjuvanted *** micrograms of CoVLP adjuvanted w.th AS03 induced a polyfunctional interleukin-2(IL-2)-driven response and IL-4 expression in CD4 T *** w.re challenged by multiple routes(i.e.,intratracheal,intranasal,and ocular)w.th a total viral dose of 106 plaque-forming units of *** viral replication in nasal sw.bs and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)as w.ll as few.r SARS-CoV-2-infected cells and immune cell infiltrates in the lungs concomitant w.th reduced levels of proinflammatory cytokines and chemotactic factors in the BALF w.re observed in animals immunized w.th the CoVLP adjuvanted w.th *** clinical,pathologic,or virologic evidence of vaccineassociated enhanced disease w.s observed in vaccinated *** CoVLP adjuvanted w.th AS03 w.s therefore selected for vaccine development and clinical trials.
