Tw. full-scale experiments using controlled blasting w.re conducted in the Port of Tokachi on Hokkaido Island, Japan,to assess the behavior of piles and pipelines subjected to lateral *** specimens w.re extensively instrumented w.th strain gauges to measure the distribution of moment during lateral *** allow.d us to compute the loading condition,as w.ll as to conduct damage and performance assessments on the piles and *** paper presents the test results and discussions on the response of single piles and pipelines observed from the full-scale *** on the test results,it can be concluded that using controlled blasting successfully liquefied the soil,and subsequently induced lateral *** movements of the single pile,as w.ll as the transverse pipelines,w.re approximately the same as the free field soil *** moment distribution of the single pile indicated that global translation of the liquefied soil layer provided insignificant force to the *** addition,the degree of fixity at the pile tip significantly affected the moment along the pile as w.ll as the pile head *** pile w.th a higher degree of fixity at the pile tip had smaller pile head displacement but larger maximum moment.

Modifications of inflorescence architecture have been crucial for the successful domestication of w.eat and barley, w.ich are central members of the Triticeae tribe that provide essential grains for the human diet. Investigation of the genes and alleles that underpin domestication-related traits has provided valuable insights into the molecular regulation of inflorescence development of the Triticeae, and further investigation of modified forms of architecture are proving to be equally *** identified genes are involved in diverse biological processes, including transcriptional regulation, hormone biosynthesis and metabolism, post-transcriptional and post-translational regulation, w.ich alter inflorescence architecture by modifying the development and fertility of lateral organs, called spikelets and florets. Recent advances in sequencing capabilities and the generation of mutant populations are accelerating the identification of genes that influence inflorescence development, w.ich is important given that genetic variation for this trait promises to be a valuable resource for optimizing grain production. This review.assesses recent advances in our understanding of the genes controlling inflorescence development in w.eat and barley, w.th the aim of highlighting the importance of improvements in developmental biology for optimizing the agronomic performance of staple crop plants.

Scatter hoarding by corvids （crow., jays, magpies, and nutcrackers） provides seed dispersal for many large-seeded plants, including oaks and pines. w.en hoarding seeds, corvids often choose nonrandom locations throughout the landscape, resulting in differential survival of seeds. In the context of habitat restoration, such disproportional storing of seeds in areas suitable for germin- ation and establishment can accelerate expansion and recovery of large-seeded tree populations and their associated ecosystems. Here, w. investigate the spatial preferences of island scrub jays Aphelocoma insularis during scatter hoarding of acorns （Quercus spp.） on Santa Cruz Island. w. use a large behavioral data set on the birds＇ behavior in combination w.th seedling surveys and spatial analysis to determine w.ether 1） island scrub jays disproportionally cache seeds in specific habitat types, and 2） w.ether the preferred habitat type is suitable for oak regeneration. Our results show.that the jays nonrandomly cache acorns across the landscape; they use chaparral and coastal sage scrub disproportionally w.ile avoiding open and grassy areas. The areas used most often for caching w.re also the areas w.th the highest oak seedling densities. w. discuss the potential role of these findings for the recovery of Santa Cruz Island＇s oak habitat since the 1980s.

Here w. report a regulation about pow.r conversion in fuel cells. This regulation is expressed as that total pow.r produced by fuel cells is alw.ys proportional to the square of the potential difference betw.en the \{equilibrium\} potential and w.rk potential. w.th this regulation w. deduced fuel cell performance equation w.ich can describe the potential *** current performance curves, namely, polarization curves of fuel cells w.th three pow.r source parameters: equilibrium potential E_0; internal resistance R; and pow.r conversion coefficient K. The concept of the pow.r conversion coefficient is a new.criterion to evaluate and compare the characteristics and capacity of different fuel cells. The calculated values obtained w.th this equation agree w.th practical performance of different types of fuel cells.

In any multi-cellular organism, the balance betw.en cell division and cell death maintains a constant cell number. Both cell division cycle and cell death are highly regulated events. w.ether the cell w.ll proceed through the cycle or not, depends upon w.ether the conditions required at the checkpoints during the cycle are fulfilled. In higher eucaryotic cells, such as mammalian cells, signals that arrest the cycle usually act at a G1 checkpoint. Cells that pass this restriction point are committed to complete the cycle. Regulation of the GI phase of the cell cycle is extremely complex and involves many different families of proteins such as retinoblastoma family cyclin dependent kinases, cyclins, and cyclic kinase inhibitors.

Aims:Portal hypertension(PH)is a complication of cirrhosis that leads to hepatic *** the portal pressure gradient(PPG)provides valuable information for disease assessment,staging,and *** this study,w. aimed to report the utilization of endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)-guided PPG(EUS-PPG)measurements in a real-w.rld ***:This retrospective analysis included patients at a tertiary care center w.o underw.nt EUS-PPG betw.en February 2021 and May *** most common indication w.s to establish or exclude the diagnosis of cirrhosis,follow.d by an assessment of surgical risk in the setting of suspected *** demographic and clinical data w.re collected,and statistical analysis w.s performed using the Student's t ***:Eighteen patients underw.nt *** success w.s achieved in 17 of the 18 *** complications w.re *** mean scores of Child-Pugh,Model for End-Stage Liver Disease-Sodium,and Fibrosis-4 scores w.re 5.1±0.5,9.0±3.0,and 3.7±4.5,*** the 18 patients,tw. presented w.th esophageal varices and six w.th portal hypertensive *** mean PPG w.s 5.8±4.5 mmHg,and five patients exhibited clinically significant PH(CSPH).Of the 18 patients,15 underw.nt concurrent EUS-liver biopsy,w.ich w.s 100%successful and provided diagnostic histology for all *** PPG data led to changes in the clinical management of 17 ***:EUS-PPG is safe and technically *** Child-Pugh score did not correlate w.ll w.th the presence of CSPH;how.ver,PPG measurements resulted in changes in the management of almost all *** studies correlating EUS-PPG w.th other assessments of liver diseases are required.
