High glucose reduces Nrf2-dependent cRAGE release and enhances inflammasome-dependent IL-1βproduction in monocytes:the modulatory effects of EGCG

Soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products(sRAGE)acts as a decoy sequestering of RAGE ligands,thus preventing the activation of the ligand-RAGE axis linking human ***,the molecular mechanisms underlying sRAGE remain *** this study,THP-1 monocytes were cultured in normal glucose(NG,5.5 mmol/L)and high glucose(HG,15 mmol/L)to investigate the effects of diabetesrelevant glucose concentrations on sRAGE and interleukin-1β(IL-1β)*** modulatory effects of epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)in response to HG challenge were also *** enhanced intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation and RAGE *** secretion of sRAGE,including esRAGE and cRAGE,was reduced under HG conditions,together with the downregulation of a disintegrin and metallopeptidase 10(ADAM10)and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)nuclear ***,the HG effects were counteracted by siRAGE and exacerbated by *** immunoprecipitation results showed that Nrf2 binding to the ADAM10 promoter and HG interfered with this *** data reinforce the notion that RAGE and Nrf2 might be sRAGE-regulating *** HG conditions,the treatment of EGCG reduced ROS generation and RAGE ***-stimulated cRAGE release was likely caused by the upregulation of the Nrf2-ADAM10 *** inhibited HG-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation at least partly by stimulating sRAGE,thereby reducing IL-1βrelease.

Predictive Value of Resting Pd/Pa for Fractional Flow Reserve Assessed with Monorail Pressure Microcatheter in Real-World Practice

Background and Objectives:The aims of this study were(1)to examine the diagnostic accuracy of resting timeaveraged distal coronary pressure(Pd)to mean aortic pressure(Pa)ratio to predict hyperemic fractional flow reserve(FFR)and(2)to identify a resting Pd/Pa value that can preclude the need for hyperemic FFR assessed with use of a monorail pressure ***:A total of 191 stenoses were *** exclusions,157 FFR data sets from 103 patients were ***:Resting Pd/Pa showed poor agreement with hyperemic FFR(r=0.619,P<0.001).The receiver operating characteristic curve for resting Pd/Pa with reference to hyperemic FFR of 0.80 or less showed an area under the curve of 0.800(95%confi dence interval 0.732– 0.868,P<0.001),with the greatest diagnostic accuracy of 74.5%for resting Pd/Pa of less than *** Pd/Pa of 0.96 or greater had a sensitivity of 100%and a negative predictive value of 100%,and resting Pd/Pa of 0.82 or less had a specifi city of 98.9%and a positive predictive value of 94.1%to predict abnormal FFR of 0.80 or *** results were consistent regardless of the vessels studied,the location of lesions,and the severity of ***:Resting Pd/Pa showed poor agreement with hyperemic FFR assessed with use of a monorail pressure ***,resting Pd/Pa of 0.96 or greater had excellent sensitivity and negative predictive value to predict normal hyperemic FFR,and resting Pd/Pa of 0.82 or less had excellent specifi city and positive predictive value to predict abnormal hyperemic FFR.

ON101 Cream Increases the Wound Healing Rate in Diabetic Patients with Uremia—Cases Report

Diabetic patients who underwent long-term dialysis may increase the prevalence of foot ulceration. In addition, diabetic foot ulcer (DFUs) patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) do not heal well, and the amputation rate is 6.5 - 10 times higher compared to the non-nephropathic diabetic population. Thus, a suitable therapeutic agent was needed. ON101 is a topical cream that promotes diabetic wound healing through a unique macrophage-regulating ability. In this case series, we included 5 diabetes patients (mean age 54.6 ± 8.7 years, 4 mal) with ESRD (mean eGFR 7.4 ± 3.35 mL/min/1.73m2) and had experienced dialysis for at least 4.5 years. These patients also have UT (University of Texas) grade 2A DFUs that have existed for at least 1.5 months (mean ulcer duration 8.3 ± 8.97 months). These subjects were applied ON101 twice daily for up to 20 weeks, and wound size was recorded during treatment. Among these subjects, three ulcers (patient No. 1, 2, and 3) completely healed within 10 weeks upon ON101 application, and one ulcer was 99% reduced at 20th weeks (patient No. 4). Only one ulcer didn’t show an obvious response that may due to poor compliance in wound care and glucose control. In summary, the overall healing rate was 60%, suggesting ON101 performed equivalence healing efficacy in dialysis patients compared with those who did not have dialysis.

Performance-based concept on seismic evaluation of existing bridges

Conventional seismic evaluation of existing bridges explores the ability of a bridge to survive under significant earthquake excitations. This approach has several major drawbacks, such as only a single structural performance of near collapse is considered, and the simplified approach of adopting strength-based concept to indirectly estimate the nonlinear behavior of a structure lacks accuracy. As a result, performance-based concepts that include a wider variety of structural performance states of a given bridge excited by different levels of earthquake intensity is needed by the engineering community. This paper introduces an improved process for the seismic evaluation of existing bridges. The relationship between the overall structural performance and earthquakes with varying levels of peak ground acceleration （PGA） can successfully be linked. A universal perspective on the seismic evaluation of bridges over their entire life-cycle can be easily obtained to investigate multiple performance objectives. The accuracy of the proposed method, based on pushover analysis, is proven in a case study that compares the results from the proposed procedure with additional nonlinear time history analyses.

A taxonomic synopsis of the genus Campeiostachys Drobov

We have classified 11 species recently recognized as belonging to the genus Elymus into a resurrected and legitimate genus Campeiostachys Drobov according to the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. Our action is based on the rationale of monophyly, discrimination, and practicality discussed in detail. Currently Elymus contains a vast number of species with different genomes which often, but not always, can be differentiated by cytological and molecular features, but are difficult to separate by traditional morphology, although an effort to do so is detailed and discussed. This difficulty can be attributed to the dominance effect of a particular genome on the other genome(s) present. Campeiostachys, with genome constitution StStHHYY, is a recent addition to a number of genera recently segregated out of Elymus, i.e. Douglasdeweya (StStPP), Kengyilia (StStPPYY), and Roegneria (StStYY, StStStStYY). A key to Campeiostachys taxa is provided, along with taxa descriptions, distribution, nomenclature, and cytology. Nineteen nomenclatural novelties, or combinations, resulted from this work, 10 species names, and nine varietal names.

Erosion and covered zones altered by surface coverage effects on soil nitrogen and carbon loss from an agricultural slope under laboratorysimulated rainfall events

Soil erosion,one of the most serious environmental concerns,might remove topsoil and essential element from terrestrial ***,few attentions have been given to investigating how soil erosion regimes affect soil carbon and nitrogen ***,this study investigated the effects of surface coverage rates(83%,67%,50%,33%,17%and 0%)and two positions(up-and downslope)on erosion regimes and its associated soil nitrogen and carbon loss under a sequence of six rainfalls(R1-R6).These results showed that the sediment concentrations with 33%(R4)and 17%(R5)coverage downslope were significantly lower than those with coverage upslope,whereas there was no significant difference between the runoff rates of the two ***,surface coverage at different positions induced two soil erosion regimes(deposition-and transport-dominated processes).Dynamics of the DON and DIN concentrations indicated different release processes of soil nitrogen into *** DON contributed to a substantial amount of soil nitrogen loss,which accounted approximately 81%of the organic *** SBOC is significantly correlated with sediment-enriched clay particles from the deposition-dominated processes and is higher than that from the transport-dominated *** DOC is significantly correlated with Rr for transport-dominated *** results illustrated the critical role of erosion regimes in soil organic carbon loss in dissolved or sediment-bound *** is concluded that erosion/covered zones altered by surface coverage could produce transport-and deposition-dominated erosion regimes and consequently affect soil carbon and nitrogen *** addition,these results demonstrated that surface coverage pattern may efficiently control soil erosion and soil carbon and nitrogen loss.

Cenozoic stratigraphy of Taiwan:Window into rifting,stratigraphy and paleoceanography of South china Sea

Shallow marine sequences of the northern South china Sea (SCS) are uplifted and exposed by plate convergence in the Taiwan mountain belt. These deposits provide detailed geological information about the rifting event, stratigraphy, sedimentology, paleoclimate and paleoceanography of the shallow SCS to compare with what are recorded in the ODP 1148 deep-sea core. Seismic surveys and marine micropalentological studies show that Eocene sequences in the offshore Taiwan Strait and onland Taiwan mountain belt are all deposited in rifting basins and are covered unconformably by the Late Oligocene-Neogene post-rifting strata. Between syn-rifting and post-rifting sequences, there is a regional break-up unconformity throughout the island. Early Oligocene and Late Eocene strata are missing along the break-up unconformity equivalent to the T7 unconformity in the Pearl River Mouth Basin off south china. This may suggest that the SCS oceanic crust could have initiated between 33 and 39 Ma. Neither obvious stratigraphic gap nor slumping features are found in the Oligocene-Miocene transition interval of Taiwan. This observation highly contrasts with what has been documented from the ODP 1148 deep-sea core. This suggests that the stratigraphic gap and slumping features could only be recorded in the SCS deep sea region, but not in the shallow shelf near Taiwan. Compared to the Middle Miocene paleoceanographic re-organization events in the SCS deep sea, the geological history of the Taiwan shallow sequence shows changes of in sedimentation and faunal composition. Due to the Antarctic glacial expansion at^14 Ma, Middle to late Miocene strata of the Western Foothills show progressive regression sedimentations associated with a decrease of benthic foraminif-eral abundance and a sharp faunal turnover event. Many Early-Middle Miocene endemic benthic foraminifers were extinct in 14-13 Ma and new benthic foraminifers of the Kuroshio Current fauna appeared from 10.2 Ma, comparable with new oc
