Anurans are considered good indicators of habitat quality due to their bi-phasic life mode,limited dispersal abilities,and sensitivity to environmental changes brought about by habitat fragmentation,pollution,climate change,and emerging infectious *** study aimed to determine species diversity and local distribution of anurans in lower(1000–1400 masl)and upper(1400–1600 masl)montane forests on ***-Kalo of the *** Range Natural park,Central Mindanao,Southern philippines by employing standard sampling techniques for *** recorded a total of 251 individual anurans,representing 12 species during a brief recent study ***-Kalo’s upper montane forest has a higher diversity index(H’=1.276)than the lower montane forest(H’=0.851).Despite the very low diversity indices,the level of endemism of anurans was 100%where ten of the recorded species are Mindanao Faunal Region endemics and an additional two species are philippine *** muelleri exhibited the highest local abundance and individuals of this species which constituted 73%of individual anurans *** of the species encountered prefer terrestrial and aquatic microhabitats,specifically on the rocks and bank substrates along the rivers and *** species of anurans(philautus acutirostris,***,and Rhacophorus bimaculatus)were strictly found in arboreal *** magnus and *** have overlapping *** indicate that for such a short survey and modest sampling effort,the lower and upper montane forests of ***-Kalo support high endemism of anuran species suggesting that conservation efforts continue to be a priority in this unique protected area.

Remote sensing-based estimation of rice yields using various models:A critical review

Reliable estimation of region-wide rice yield is vital for food security and agricultural ***-scale models have increased our understanding of rice yield and its estimation under theoretical environmental ***,they offer little infor-mation on spatial variability effects on farm-scale *** Sensing(RS)is a useful tool to upscale yield estimates from farm scales to regional *** research used RS with rice models for reliable yield *** several countries start to operatio-nalize rice monitoring systems,it is needed to synthesize current literature to identify knowledge gaps,to improve estimation accuracies,and to optimize *** paper critically reviewed significant developments in using geospatial methods,imagery,and quantitative models to estimate rice ***,essential characteristics of rice were discussed as detected by optical and radar sensors,band selection,sensor configuration,spatial resolution,mapping methods,and biophysical variables of rice derivable from RS ***,various empirical,process-based,and semi-empirical models that used RS data for spatial estimation of yield were critically assessed-discussing how major types of models,RS platforms,data assimilation algorithms,canopy state variables,and RS variables can be integrated for yield ***,to overcome current constraints and to improve accuracies,several possibilities were suggested-adding new modeling modules,using alternative canopy variables,and adopting novel modeling *** rice yields are expected to decrease due to global warming,geospatial rice yield estimation techniques are indispensable tools for climate change *** studies should focus on resolving the current limitations of estimation by precise delineation of rice cultivars,by incorporating dynamic harvesting indices based on climatic drivers,using innovative modeling approaches with machine learning.

phenology-based delineation of irrigated and rain-fed paddy fields with Sentinel-2 imagery in Google Earth Engine

paddy rice agriculture is practiced in both rain-fed and irrigated ecosystems in the ***,small farms are prevalent in the region,and current satellite-based mapping techniques do not distinguish between the two ecosystems at farm *** study developed an approach to rapidly map irrigated and rain-fed paddy rice in Iloilo,philippines at 10 m resolutions using Google Earth *** approach used an ensemble of classifiers based on time-series vegetation indices to produce dry and wet seasonal maps for the entire *** showed a predominance of rain-fed rice areas in both seasons,with irrigated rice making up only onefourth of the total rice *** overall accuracy was achieved at 68%for the dry season and 75%for the wet season based on ground-acquired points and very high-resolution *** two types of paddies were classified at accuracies up to 87%.Furthermore,the land cover maps showed a strong agreement with the municipal *** resultant maps complement current official statistics and demonstrate the prowess of phenology-based mapping to create paddy inventories in a timely manner to inform food security and agricultural policies.

Background:Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)is a complex prototypic autoimmune disease,with a prevalence of 20–150 per 100,000,most commonly affecting women at child-bearing ***-wide association studies and fine mapping of candidate regions have paved the way for greater understanding of SLE as a disease of genetic–environmental susceptibility and the functions of the genes ***:This study was conducted to determine the association of selected single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNps)from established genomic databases based on theoretical risk and protective odds ratios>2.5 orptibility of developing SLE among ***:We analyzed data from 310 SLE patients and 318 *** identified eight significant SNps namely rs9271100,rs9271366,rs9272105,rs9275328,rs2647087,rs12734338,rs17885098,and rs3883013 to be associated with an increased risk of developing SLE among ***:Eight SNps were found to be associated with the development of SLE among *** to previous genetic studies in lupus patients,majority of the SNps were found in the major histocompatibilty complex genes in the HLA *** study identified two unique SNps that will be validated as potential diagnostic markers for *** findings of this study may contribute to the development of a polygenic risk score in determining susceptibility to SLE among Filipinos.

productive evaluation of slow-growing Mexican turkeys with different diets in confinement

Were assessed the effect of five traditional diets backyard turkeys in confinement. The experiment lasted 36 weeks, the turkeys were randomized to one of five diets: kitchen waste + fresh forage (T1), kitchen waste (T2), commercial feed + fresh forage (T3), cracked corn + fresh forage (T4) and commercial feed (T5). Food and water were provided ad libitum. Each treatment with birds of both sexes had two repetitions with four birds and each bird was considered as an experimental unit. Were evaluated daily weight gain, total weight gain, final live weight, total length peak-tail, monthly gain peak-tail, total length, total length of wings, monthly gain wings length, and feed cost. The data were analyzed in a completely randomized arrangement with adjusted means and Tukey’s mean comparison, then an evaluation of treatment groups by analyzing clusters for semi quantitative data. The biggest daily gain, total weight gain and final live weight was obtained with treatment T3, while the highest increase in peak-length tail and wings was obtained with treatment T1 (p < 0.05). T2 treatment turned out to be most economical, but the treatment that best scores obtained was T1. We conclude that the use of kitchen waste + fresh forage is a feasible strategy to feed slow-growing turkeys.

Background::Around the world,controlling the COVID-19 pandemic requires national coordination of multiple intervention *** vaccinations are globally introduced into the repertoire of available interventions,it is important to consider how changes in the local supply of vaccines,including delays in administration,may be addressed through existing policy *** study aims to identify the optimal level of interventions for COVID-19 from 2021 to 2022 in the philippines,which as a developing country is particularly vulnerable to shifting assumptions around vaccine ***,we explore optimal strategies in scenarios featuring delays in vaccine administration,expansions of vaccine supply,and limited combinations of ***::Embedding our work within the local policy landscape,we apply optimal control theory to the compartmental model of COVID-19 used by the philippine government’s pandemic surveillance platform and introduce four controls:(a)precautionary measures like community quarantines,(b)detection of asymptomatic cases,(c)detection of symptomatic cases,and(d)*** model is fitted to local data using an L-BFGS minimization *** conditions are identified using pontryagin’s minimum principle and numerically solved using the forward-backward sweep ***::Simulation results indicate that early and effective implementation of both precautionary measures and symptomatic case detection is vital for averting the most infections at an efficient cost,resulting in>99%reduction of infections compared to the no-control *** vaccine administration capacity to 440,000 full immunizations daily will reduce the overall cost of optimal strategy by 25%,while allowing for a faster relaxation of more resource-intensive ***,delays in vaccine administration require compensatory increases in the remaining policy levers to maintain a minimal number of *** example,dela

Interferon β-1a alone or in combination with ribavirin: A randomized trial to compare efficacy and safety in chronic hepatitis C

AIM: To compare the efficacy and safety of recombinant human IFN β-1a alone or in combination with ribavirin in treatment-na(i)ve subjects with chronic hepatitis ***: Open, randomized trial was performed in 6 Italian tertiary centers: 102 of the 108 patients screened were randomized to receive 6 MIU of recombinant human IFN β-1a subcutaneously daily for 24 wk, alone (Group 1, n = 51) or in combination with ribavirin 1 000 to 1 200 mg/d (Group 2, n = 51).RESULTS: The end-of-treatment virologic response rate was 29.4% in Group 1 and 41.2% in Group 2 (non-significant). Twenty-four weeks after stopping therapy,sustained virologic response rate was 21.6% in Group 1 and 27.4% in Group 2 (non-significant). All subjects in Group 1 completed treatment, while two subjects in Group 2 stopped therapy due to treatment-related adverse ***: Recombinant human IFN β-1a, alone or in combination with ribavirin, has an excellent safety profile and, may represent an alternative for chronic hepatitis C patients who are unable to tolerate pegylated α-interferon.

在环境因素起制约作用的背景下,随着中国古人类演化与生存能力的进步,其数量和空间分布在不同时间段呈现出不同的特征。为了更好地了解中国早期人类的时空分布特征,本研究以中国境内已发表的2110处旧石器遗址的坐标和年代信息为基础,采用统计学和空间分析的方法,对遗址的时间分布进行以蒙特卡洛模拟为基础的时间不定性模拟,对遗址的空间分布进行核密度估计和聚类分析;同时,利用环境空间数据集中的海拔、水源、气温和降水信息,对不同时期内各个遗址所在地的环境条件进行统计分析。研究结果表明,在旧石器时代,随着时间的发展,中国境内的遗址数量不断增多,分布范围也逐渐从中部、南部和东部地区向条件较恶劣的北部和西部扩张。其中,600 ka和57 ka为这一变化的两个关键时间点,600 ka之前遗址数量较少,分布也较为局限;在600 ka至57 ka之间,遗址数量缓慢增加,分布范围也在季风区内逐渐扩大;57 ka之后,遗址数量迅速增长,分布遍布中国境内的大部分地区。本文所梳理的中国境内旧石器遗址整体时空分布特征,为进一步解读中国早期人类的环境适应能力,特别是古人类的体质演化和技术进步的环境驱动机制提供参考。
