Layered alkali-containing 3d transition-metal oxides are of the utmost importance in the use of electrode materials for advanced energy storage applications such as Li-,Na-,or K-ion batteries.A significant challenge in the field of materials chemistry is understanding the dynamics of the chemical reactions between alkali-free precursors and alkali species during the synthesis of these *** this study,in situ high-resolution synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction was applied to reveal the Li/Na/K-ion insertion-induced structural transformation mechanism during high-temperature solid-state *** in situ diffraction results demonstrate that the chemical reaction pathway strongly depends on the alkali-free precursor type,which is a structural matrix enabling phase *** phase analysis identifies for the first time the decomposition of lithium sources as the most critical factor for the formation of metastable intermediates or impurities during the entire process of Li-rich layered Li[Li_(0.2)Ni_(0.2)Mn_(0.6)]O_(2) *** the alkali ions have different ionic radii,Na/K ions tend to be located on prismatic sites in the defective layered structure(Na_(2/3-x)[Ni_(0.25)Mn_(0.75)]O_(2) or K_(2/3-x)[Ni_(0.25)Mn_(0.75)]O_(2))during calcination,whereas the Li ions prefer to be localized on the tetrahedral and/or octahedral sites,forming O-type structures.

Modeling of the effect of hydrogen injection on blast furnace operation and carbon dioxide emissions

The effect of hydrogen injection on blast furnace operation and carbon dioxide emissions was simulated using a 1D steady-state zonal *** maximum hydrogen injection rate was evaluated on the basis of the simulation of the vertical temperature pattern in the blast furnace with a focus on the thermal reserve *** effects of blast temperature and oxygen enrichment were also examined to estimate coke replacement ratio,productivity,hydrogen utilization efficiency,and carbon dioxide emission *** blast temperature of 1200℃,the maximum hydrogen injection rate was 19.0 and 28.3 kg of H_(2)/t of hot metal(HM)for oxygen enrichment of 2vol%and 12vol%,*** showed a coke replacement ratio of 3-4 kg of coke/kg of H_(2),direct CO_(2) emission reduction of 10.2%-17.8%,and increased productivity by up to 13.7%depending on oxygen enrichment *** blast temperature further reduced the direct CO_(2) *** utilization degree reached the maximum of 0.52-0.54 H_(2)O/(H_(2)O+H_(2)).The decarbonization potential of hydrogen injection was estimated in the range from 9.4 t of CO_(2)/t of H_(2) to 9.7 t of CO_(2)/t of H_(2).For economic feasibility,hydrogen injection requires revolutionary progress in terms of low-cost H_(2) generation unless the technological change is motivated by the carbon emission *** injection may unfavorably affect the radial temperature pattern of the raceway,which could be addressed by adopting appropriate injection techniques.

Occupant friendly seismic retrofit by concrete plates

An innovative occupant friendly retrofitting technique has been developed for reinforced concrete(RC) building structures with hollow brick infill walls used as partition walls which constitute the major portion of the existing building stock in Turkey. The idea is to convert the existing hollow brick infill wall into a load carrying system acting as a cast-in-place RC wall by reinforcing it with relatively thin concrete plates bonded to the mortar coated infill wall by use of tile adhesive and fixed by 6(6 mm diameter) bolts. Test parameters were the shape and thickness of the plates, presence of reinforcement in plates, number and arrangement of 6 bolts. It was observed that lateral strength, stiffness, energy dissipation capacity, and ductility of the strengthened infill walls were improved and behaviour was enhanced by the proposed technique. Plates with two different basic shapes were used to strengthen the test specimens.

Determination of AVR System PID Controller Parameters Using Improved Variants of Reptile Search Algorithm and a Novel Objective Function

Two novel improved variants of reptile search algorithm(RSA),RSA with opposition-based learning(ORSA)and hybrid ORSA with pattern search(ORSAPS),are proposed to determine the proportional,integral,and derivative(PID)controller parameters of an automatic voltage regulator(AVR)system using a novel objective function with augmented *** the proposed algorithms,the opposition-based learning technique improves the global search abilities of the original RSA algorithm,while the hybridization with the pattern search(PS)algorithm improves the local search *** algorithms are compared with the original RSA algorithm and have shown to be highly effective algorithms for tuning the PID controller parameters of an AVR system by getting superior *** analyses such as transient,stability,robustness,disturbance rejection,and trajectory tracking are conducted to test the performance of the proposed algorithms,which have validated the good promise of the proposed methods for controller *** performances of the proposed design approaches are also compared with the previously reported PID controller parameter tuning approaches to assess their *** is shown that both proposed approaches obtain excellent and robust results among all compared *** is,with the adjustment of the weight factorα,which is introduced by the proposed objective function,for a system with high bandwitdh(α=1),the proposed ORSAPS-PID system has 2.08%more bandwidth than the proposed ORSA-PID system and 5.1%faster than the fastest algorithm from the *** the other hand,for a system where high phase and gain margins are desired(α=10),the proposed ORSA-PID system has 0.53%more phase margin and 2.18%more gain margin than the proposed ORSAPS-PID system and has 0.71%more phase margin and 2.25%more gain margin than the best performing algorithm from the literature.

Mercury emissions and partitioning from Indian coal-fired power plants

In India coal combustion is the single largest source of emission of mercury which is a widespread persistent global toxicant,travelling across international borders through air and *** a party to the Minamata convention,India aims to monitor and reduce Hg emissions and stricter norms are introduced for mercury emissions from power plants(30μg/Nm 3 for flue gas in stack).This paper presents the results obtained during the experimental studies performed on mercury emissions at four coal-fired and one lignite-fired power plants in *** mercury concentration in the feed coal varied between 0.12-0.27 mg/*** the mercury mass balance,significant proportion of feed coal mercury has been found to be associated with fly ash,whereas bottom ash contained very low mercury.80%-90%of mercury was released to air through stack ***,for circulating fluidised bed boiler burning lignite,about 64.8%of feed mercury was found to get captured in the fly ash and only 32.4%was released to *** mercury emission factor was found to lie in the range of 4.7-15.7 mg/GJ.

226Ra irradiation to produce 225Ac and 213Bi in an accelerator-driven system reactor

This study aims to produce 229Th using an innovative nuclear reactor concept,i.e.,accelerator-driven system(ADS)***,we investigated the feasibility of producing 229Th from neutron transmutation of 226Ra to expand the availability of 225Ac and 213Bi in a simple model of ADS *** reactor comprises two zones,i.e.,an inner zone with a fast neutron spectrum and outer zone with thermal neutron spectrum,which is a subcritical core coupled with an external neutron *** behavior,activity,and mass ratio of the obtained isotopes were investigated using the Monte-Carlo *** addition with offering the capability,flexibility,and safety of radioactive waste transmutation,the proposed ADS model provides high 229Th yield and requires less time than a critical reactor with the same neutron flux and irradiated quantity of 226Ra.

Determination of interface states and their time constant for Au/SnO_2 /n-Si (MOS) capacitors using admittance measurements

The frequency dependence of admittance measurements （capacitance–voltage （C–V ） and conductance–voltage （G/ω–V ）） of Au/SnO2 /n-Si （MOS） capacitors was investigated by taking into account the effects of the interface states （N ss ） and series resistance （Rs ） at room temperature. Admittance measurements were carried out in frequency and bias voltage ranges of 1 kHz–1 MHz and （ 5V）–（＋9V）, respectively. The values of N ss and R s were determined by using a conductance method and estimating from the admittance measurements of the MOS capacitors. At low frequencies, the interface states can follow the AC signal and yield excess capacitance and conductance. In addition, the parallel conductance （G p /ω） versus log（f） curves at various voltages include a peak due to the presence of interface states. It is observed that the N ss and their time constant （τ） range from 1.23 ×10 12 eV-1 ·cm-2 to 1.47 ×10 12 eV-1 ·cm-2 and from 7.29 ×10-5 s to 1.81 ×10-5s, respectively.

Underground mining slurry transportation viability

Underground mining requires lot of water pumping to surface which increases cost. Because of safety, support, ventilation and environment costs underground mines are closing down gradually all over the world. This innovative paper is based on method studies by computer programming with realistic data. With development of electronic control systems, coal water slurry mix can be remote controlled for transport to surface Separator-bunker. Main consumers need powdered coal/mineral like thermal power stations, for feeding to Fuel Burners of boilers, generating power or in steel plants for feeding into coke ovens to make hard coke for charging into Blast Furnaces for making pig iron. Feed for coal washeries also require crushed coal and output of washed coal as slurry can be sent to coke ovens of steel plants directly. Production from mine faces should be taken through lump-breaker and conveyed to a mixing chamber, near panel sump, from where adequate capacity slurry pump will propel up to pit-top. The projected financial benefit can be several millions of Rupees per year, as compared to road, rail conveyor or winders is shown, by run of a computer program in Java, with realistic cost figures from mines.

Nucleos(t)ide analogs in the prevention of hepatitis B virus related hepatocellular carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is among the most common cancer types and causes of cancer related mortality *** 50% of all HCC cases globally are attributable to chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV) *** incidence rates of HCC in untreated Asian subjects with HBV infection was estimated to be 0.2% in inactive carriers,0.6% for those with chronic hepatitis without cirrhosis,and 3.7% for those with compensated *** Western populations,HCC incidences are reported to be 0.02% in inactive carriers,0.3% in subjects with chronic hepatitis without cirrhosis,and 2.2% in subjects with compensated *** effective antiviral treatment options which are able to transform chronic hepatitis into an inactive carrier state,the risk of HCC cannot be fully ruled out to exclude those patients from *** nucleos(t)ide analogues(NAs) as entecavir and tenofovir are very potent in terms of sustained virological suppression which leads to improved liver ***,they do not have any influence on the ccc DNA or integrated DNA of HBV in the ***,viral replication is the only modifiable component among the established risk factors for HBV-related HCC with the current treatment *** this review,it was aimed to summarize cumulative evidence behind the concept of prevention of HBV related HCC by NAs,and to discuss remaining obstacles to eliminate the risk of HCC.

A novel image fusion algorithm based on 2D scale-mixing complex wavelet transform and Bayesian MAP estimation for multimodal medical images
