Chaos game representation of functional protein sequences,and simulation and multifractal analysis of induced measures

Investigating the biological function of proteins is a key aspect of protein studies. Bioinformatic methods become important for studying the biological function of proteins. In this paper, we first give the chaos game representation （CGR） of randomly-linked functional protein sequences, then propose the use of the recurrent iterated function systems （RIFS） in fractal theory to simulate the measure based on their chaos game representations. This method helps to extract some features of functional protein sequences, and furthermore the biological functions of these proteins. Then multifractal analysis of the measures based on the CGRs of randomly-linked functional protein sequences are performed. We find that the CGRs have clear fractal patterns. The numerical results show that the RIFS can simulate the measure based on the CGR very well. The relative standard error and the estimated probability matrix in the RIFS do not depend on the order to link the functional protein sequences. The estimated probability matrices in the RIFS with different biological functions are evidently different. Hence the estimated probability matrices in the RIFS can be used to characterise the difference among linked functional protein sequences with different biological functions. From the values of the Dq curves, one sees that these functional protein sequences are not completely random. The Dq of all linked functional proteins studied are multifractal-like and sufficiently smooth for the Cq （analogous to specific heat） curves to be meaningful. Furthermore, the Dq curves of the measure μ based on their CCRs for different orders to link the functional protein sequences are almost identical if q 〉 0. Finally, the Ca curves of all linked functional proteins resemble a classical phase transition at a critical point.

Controllers Design for the Multi-Shuttle and Multi-Station Transportation System

Nowadays, the Multi-Shuttle and Multi-Station Transportation System (MMTS) is one of the most interesting research topics in many fields of industries. It is an effective solution to reduce unexpected accidents that occur during transportation as well as increase productivity in manufacturing. The aim of this paper is to introduce the controller design for the MMTS which is built in our BK-Recme BioMech Lab at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (VNU-HCM), Viet Nam. Based on the design of this system, the control algorithms will be conducted to check the operation of the whole system. To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of this model, we design a series of random instances for different quantities of nodes as well as the different quantities of shuttles. Our system includes 4 stations and 6 shuttles which are assembled in the serial chain system. However, the number of stations and number of shuttles can be expanded to any desired ones which are based on the requirement of the industries. In this paper, we mainly focus on the controller design of this system to make it operate in an effective way that the goods will be transported and delivered to the target station as fast as possible. In order to solve the large-scale instances and realistic transport problems, we propose three algorithms for three progresses as shuttles calling, path reading and shuttles communicating. 以废弃酒瓶软木塞为原料,采用低成本、简单的水热方法合成碳量子点。通过TEM、FTIR、Raman、UV-Vis、PL光谱对碳量子点的结构和光学性能进行分析表征。结果表明,碳量子点的平均直径为6.2±2.7 nm,PL激发谱和碳量子点表面的官能团有关。用硫酸奎宁作为参考,碳量子点的量子效率为1.54%。将获得的碳量子点应用在骨髓间充质干细胞的细胞生物成像上,发现用碳量子点处理后,骨髓间充质干细胞分别在320~380 nm、450~490 nm和450~490 nm范围显示绿色、黄色和红色荧光,表明了碳量子点在荧光成像领域具有潜在的应用价值。

Adaptability Zoning for Salty-Tolerant Rice Varieties in Soc Trang Prefecture by Using GIS and Remote Sensing

Soc Trang is one of coastal provinces in which rice land is relatively low and therefore under annual threat of saline intrusion and other climatic variabilities. It raises an urgent need to identify various rice varieties which are short-duration, highly adaptive to salinity penetration, floods and aluminium poisonous matters, as well as high productivity and quality. The research applies the GIS （Geo-Information System） and RS （Remote Sensing） techniques to accurately evaluate the adaptability of different salinity-tolerant rice varieties. We have used information from FAO （The Food and Agriculture Organization）, Maplnfo and ArcGIS to map different components separately that are overlapped and mixed together to build different maps indicating the adaptability of different rice varieties to salinity in different locations in Soc Trang. We have also identified various factors affecting the productivity of these rice varieties. Then, several salinity-resistent rice varieties have been piloted in different areas to figure out which varieties are most suitable for specific regions.

Relationship between Hydrogeological Structure and Groundwater Exploitation Capacity in Aquifer of the Basin of Cai Phan Rang River, Ninh Thuan Province, Viet Nam

This article presents the results of dividing the hydrogeological structure zones in aquifer of Cai Phan Rang river basin, Ninh Thuan province, Viet Nam, and the relationship between parameters of hydrogeological structure zones with water storage capacity of hydrogeological structure. Research results divided hydrogeological structure of Cai Phan Rang River Basin into four zones, including three zones with depression bedrock and one zone with slope bedrock, and the results assessed：（1） specific discharge of exploitation well is proportional to zone area of hydrogeological structure; （2） specific discharge of exploitation well is inversely proportional to slope of bedrock surface, slope of water level in zone and area of drainage surface of hydrogeological structure zone; （3） water level fluctuation in zone is proportional to slope of bedrock surface, slope of water level in zone and inversely proportional to distribution area of zone; （4） total mineralization of water is proportional to bedrock surface slope and water level slope in zone, and inversely proportional to drainage surface area of zone and volume of structural depression. Research results are practical significance in solutions proposal to increase exploitation capacity for various water use purposes.

Effectiveness of Sentinel-1-2 Multi-Temporal Composite Images for Land-Cover Monitoring in the Indochinese Peninsula

The Indochinese Peninsula, which contains two thirds of the world’s tropical forests, however, is one of the world’s most threatened habitat with some of the highest rates of deforestation and land use changes. Availability of higher resolution satellite data collected by the likes of Landsat 8 and Sentinel-1-2 has brought new opportunities for precise land cover monitoring in recent years. However, utilizing a massive volume of high spatial and temporal resolution data for ecological applications is challenging. One approach is to employ composite images generated from the multi-temporal satellite data. The research was conducted in two study sites located in the Indochinese Peninsula, Laos-Thailand and Vietnam-Cambodia, vulnerable to deforestation and land use changes. We assessed the potential of recently available composite images, such as Biophysical Image Composite (BIC), Forest Cover Composite (FCC), Enhanced Forest Cover Composite (EFCC), and Water Cover Composite (WCC) for the classification and mapping of land cover types. Three machine learning classifiers, k-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Random Forests (RF) were employed and the performance of composite images was evaluated quantitatively with the support of ground truth data. The overall accuracies (Kappa coefficient) obtained from the combination of composite images were 0.92 (0.89) and 0.90 (0.86) for Laos-Thailand, and Vietnam sites respectively. These results highlight effectiveness of the composite images for the classification and mapping of land cover types.

头脑风暴优化BSO算法是一种新型的群体智能优化算法,启发于众人集思广益求解问题的模式,适合求解复杂多峰函数优化问题。但是,BSO求解多峰极值时需进行重复的迭代运算,面对大规模数据集时会出现计算效率与求解精度过低的现象。为解决上述问题,设计并实现了一种基于Spark的并行化头脑风暴优化算法,通过将BSO算法中计算复杂度最高的聚类与新解产生过程并行化,以提高算法的加速比与计算效率。特别地,基于并行化思想,将种群划分为多个子群进行协同演化,每个子群独立产生新解来保持种群多样性,提高算法的收敛速度。最后,利用并行化BSO算法求解多峰函数。实验表明,在并行节点的总核心数为10的情况下,并行化BSO算法计算时间节省一半,计算精度和串行BSO算法基本持平,收敛速度明显提高,实验结果说明了并行化BSO的有效性。

Bacterial leaf blight of rice (BLB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, is one of the most destructive diseases in Asian rice fields. A high-quality rice variety, LT2, was used as the recipient ***21, which carries the Xa21 gene, was used as the donor parent. The resistance gene Xa21 was introduced into LT2 by marker-assisted backcrossing. Three Xoo races were used to inoculate the improved lines following the clipping method. Eleven BC_3F_3 lines carrying Xa21 were obtained based on molecular markers and agronomic performance. The 11 lines were then inoculated with the three Xoo races. All the 11 improved lines showed better resistance to BLB than the recipient parent LT2. Based on the level of resistance to BLB and their agronomic performance, five lines (BC_3F_3 5.***.5.1, BC_3F_3 5.***.5.12, BC_3F_3 8.***.6.44, BC_3F_3 9.***.4.1 and BC_3F_3 9.***.4.23) were selected as the most promising for commercial release. These improved lines could contribute to rice production in terms of food security.

Driver State Detection Based on Cardiovascular System and Driver Reaction Information Using a Graphical Model

Traffic accidents are mainly caused by human error. In an aging society, the number of accidents attributed to elderly drivers is increasing. One noteworthy reason for this is operation misapplication. Studies have been conducted on the use of human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to inform the driver when he or she makes an error and encourage appropriate actions. However, the driver state during the erroneous action has not been investigated. The purpose of this study is to clarify the difference in the driver’s state between normal and surprising situations in a misapplication scenario, utilizing multimodal information such as biometric information and driver operation. We found significant changes in the interaction of components between the normal and the surprised driving state. The results could provide basic knowledge for the future development of a driver assistance system and driver state estimation using data acquired from multiple sensors in the vehicle.
