Reversible lesions in the brain parenchyma in Wilson's disease confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging:earlier administration of chelating therapy can reduce the damage to the brain

The aim of this study was to evaluate the resolution of brain lesions in patients with Wilson’s disease during the long-term chelating therapy using magnetic resonance imaging and a possible signiifcance of the time latency between the initial symptoms of the disease and the introduction of this therapy. Initial magnetic resonance examination was performed in 37 patients with proven neurological form of Wilson’s disease with cerebellar, parkinsonian and dystonic presentation. Magnetic resonance reexamination was done 5.7 ± 1.3 years later in 14 patients. Patients were divided into： group A, where chelating therapy was initiated 〈 24 months from the ifrst symp-toms and group B, where the therapy started≥ 24 months after the initial symptoms. symmetry of the lesions was seen in 100% of patients. There was a signiifcant difference between groups A and B regarding complete resolution of brain stem and putaminal lesions （P= 0.005 andP=0.024, respectively）. If the correct diagnosis and adequate treatment are not established less than 24 months after onset of the symptoms, irreversible lesions in the brain parenchyma could be ex-pected. signal abnormalities on magnetic resonance imaging might therefore, at least in the early stages, represent reversible myelinolisis or cytotoxic edema associated with copper toxicity.

The aim of this investigation was to define the effectiveness of non-contact drying using ultrasonic vibrations. Disk radiators were used for carrying out experiments, and a special drying chamber was designed to provide resonant amplification of ultrasonic vibrations (from 130 to 150 dB). Drying of ginseng and other vegetables demonstrated that the application of ultrasonic vibrations reduced power inputs by 20% in comparison with convective drying. It also led to a decrease of 6% in final moisture content, if the duration of drying was constant. The level of intensification of ultrasonic drying was high (up to 50 g for 1 kg of drying material), which helped to lower the temperature of the drying agent and improve the quality of the dried products.

spherical(Y_(0.98)Er_(0.02))_(2)(OH)_(5)(NO_(3))·xH_(2)O particles were synthesized by controlled double-jet precipitation,with a“core”of pure layered yttrium hydroxide nitrate,and a“shell”of co-precipitated yttrium-erbium layered hydroxide *** an increase in precipitation pH from 7 to 9.5,the size of layered“building units”decreases and the architecture of their assemblies changes from flower-like through network-like spherical to irregular *** there,spherical particles gradually increase their diameter due to the continuous uniform growth of curved layered sheets on their *** was established that such growth behavior and network-like architecture of spherical particles was retained even when yttrium was replaced by erbium ions in the layered host lattice during the formation of an Er-enriched“shell”.Analysis of sEM,EDs,XPs,photoluminescence spectra and concentration quenching effects of heat-treated Y_(2)O_(3):Er(2 at.%)particles indicate that the radial distribution of erbium in particles is most controllable in a narrow pH range of co-precipitation of layered precursors(pH8).Вy widely varying the elemental composition of“building units”during co-precipitation,one can simultaneously finely control the composition of layered hydroxides in the radial direction of the spherical particles and grow multicomponent“multi-shell”powders with desired properties.

Microfracture Characterization in sandstone Reservoirs:A Case study from the Upper Triassic of syria's Euphrates Graben

Ocular flora in patients undergoing intravitreal injections: antibiotic resistance patterns and susceptibility to antiseptic picloxydine

AIM: To study antibiotic resistance patterns and susceptibility to eye antiseptic picloxydine of conjunctival flora in patients undergoing intravitreal injections(IVIs).METHODs: Conjunctival swabs were taken in 4 groups of patients, 20 patients in each group(n=80): without IVIs and ophthalmic operations in history(group N1;control group);with the first IVI and antibiotic eye drops Tobrex applied 3 d before IVI and 5 d after it(group N2);with 20 or more IVIs and repeated courses of antibiotic eye drops(group N3);with the first IVI and antiseptic eye drops Vitabact(picloxydine) applied 3 d before IVI and 5 d after it(group N4). In groups N2 and N4 swabs were taken at baseline and after the treatment. Efficacy of picloxydine in inhibition of growth of conjunctival isolates susceptible and resistant to antibiotic was studied in vitro. Minimal inhibition concentrations(MIC) were determined with microdilution ***: Two of the three patients who had to undergo the IVI procedure showed conjunctiva bacterial contamination. Along with few staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative isolates susceptible to most antibiotics, the majority(71%-77%) of causative agents were coagulase-negative staphylococci(Co Ns), 40%-50% of which were multidrug resistant(MDR). Eye disinfection in the operating room and peri-injection courses of Tobrex or Vitabact resulted in total elimination of isolates found at baseline. However, in 10% and 20% of patients, respectively, recolonization of the conjunctiva with differing strains occurred. In patients with repeated IVI and Tobrex/Maxitrol treatment, the conjunctival flora showed high resistance rates: 90% of Co Ns were MDR. In the in vitro study, picloxydine showed bactericidal effect against staphylococci isolates both antibiotic resistant and susceptible with MIC≥13.56 μg/m L. Multiple input self-organizing-map ResNet model for optimization of petroleum refinery conversion units

This work introduces a deep-learning network,i.e.,multi-input self-organizing-map ResNet(MIsR),for modeling refining units comprised of two reactors and a separation *** model is comprised of self-organizing-map and the neural network *** self-organizing-map part maps the input data into multiple two-dimensional planes and sends them to the neural network *** the neural network part,residual blocks enhance the convergence and accuracy,ensuring that the structure will not be overfitted *** of the MIsR model of hydrocracking unit also benefits from the utilization of prior knowledge of the importance of the input variables for predicting properties of the *** results show that the proposed MIsR structure predicts more accurately the product yields and properties than the previously introduced self-organizing-map convolutional neural network model,thus leading to more accurate optimization of the hydrocracker ***,the MIsR model has smoother error convergence than the previous *** operating conditions have been determined via multi-round-particle-swarm and differential evolution *** experiments show that the MIsR model is suitable for modeling nonlinear conversion units which are often encountered in refining and petrochemical plants.

Deuterium retention in chemically vapor deposited tungsten carbide coatings and hot-rolled tungsten exposed to low-energy deuterium plasma

samples of chemically vapor deposited(CVD)coatings of tungsten carbides W_(45)C_(55)and W_(60)C_(40)and samples of hot-rolled tungsten were exposed to deuterium(D)plasma at sample temperatures ranging from 323 to 813 K,as a result of which the samples were irradiated with D ions with an energy of about 200 eV per D particle at a flux of D particles of about1.1×10^(21)D·m^(-2)·s^(-1)to a fluence of about 2×10^(24)D·m^(-2).The concentration of deuterium in these samples was examined by the D(3 He,p)4 He nuclear *** on the measured deuterium depth profiles and assuming that these profiles are determined by diffusing D atoms,the diffusion coefficients of deuterium in the CVD tungsten carbide coatings were *** these diffusion coefficients,an estimate of the Arrhenius relation for the diffusion coefficients of deuterium in CVD tungsten carbide coatings was obtained:D=2.5×10^(-3)exp(-1.12 eV/kT)m~2·s^(-1),where T is temperature expressed in Kelvin,and k is the Boltzmann *** concentration of trapped deuterium in the bulk of CVD tungsten carbide coatings is practically independent of the stoichiometry of the *** decreases from about 5×10^(-2)to about 7×10^(-4)D/(W+C)with an increase in the deuterium plasma exposure temperature from 373 to 813 *** concentration of trapped deuterium in hot-rolled tungsten,expressed in units of the D/W atomic ratio,is more than an order of magnitude lower than the concentration of deuterium in tungsten carbides,and also decreases with increasing plasma exposure temperature.
