Rotary swaging(RS)of alloy Mg-1.03Zn-0.66Ca(ZX11)was shown to refine the average grain size to 4.5±1.2μm in a longitudinal section and 4.8±0.9μm in a transverse *** addition,a small amount of Mg2Ca particles about 300nm in size and Mg6Zn3Ca2 particles with a size of about lOOnm was *** resulted in pronounced strengthening:the yield strength and the ultimate tensile strength rose to 210±8 MPa and 276±6 MPa,respectively,while the elongation hardly decreased(22.0±1.8% and 18.3±2.9% before and after RS).Furthermore,RS led to an increase in the fatigue limit of the alloy from 120 MPa to 135 MPa and did not impair its resistance to chemical *** studies in vitro showed that ZX11 induces hemolysis without inhibiting the viability of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and has a more pronounced cytotoxic effect on tumor cells in comparison with non-transformed *** significant difference of the latter effect between the initial and the deformed states was observed.

Various compact difference schemes （both old and new, explicit and implicit, one-level and two-level）, which approximate the diffusion equation and SchrSdinger equation with periodical boundary conditions are constructed by means of the general approach. The results of numerical experiments for various initial data and right hand side are presented. We evaluate the real order of their convergence, as well as their stability, effectiveness, and various kinds of monotony. The optimal Courant number depends on the number of grid knots and on the smoothness of solutions. The competition of various schemes should be organized for the fixed number of arithmetic operations, which are necessary for numerical integration of a given Cauchy problem. This approach to the construction of compact schemes can be developed for numerical solution of various problems of mathematical physics.

This paper is to promote investigation into the nuclear rocket engine （NRE） propulsion option that is considered as a key technology for manned Mars exploration. Russian NRE developed since the 1950s in the former Soviet Union to a full-scale prototype by the 1990s is viewed as advantageous and the most suitable starting point concept for manned Mars mission application study. The main features of Russian heterogeneous core NRE design are described and the most valuable experimental performance results are summarized. These results have demonstrated the significant specific impulse performance advantage of the NRE over conventional liquid rocket engine （LRE） propulsion technologies. Based on past experience, the recent developments in the field of high-temperature nuclear fuels, and the latest conceptual studies, the developed NRE concept is suggested to be upgraded to the nuclear power and propulsion system （NPPS）, more suitable for future manned Mars missions. Although the NRE still needs development for space application, the problems are solvable with additional effort and funding.

With the application of supercavitation effect, a novel device named rotational supercavitating evaporator(RSCE) was recently designed for desalination. In order to improve the blade shape of rotational cavitator in RSCE for performance optimization and then design three-dimensional blades, numerical simulations are conducted on the supercavitating flows(with cavitation number ranging from 0.055 to 0.315) around two-dimensional planar symmetric wedge-shaped cavitators with different wedge angles varied from 10 to 180 degrees. Proper numerical method for simulating supercavitating flows around planar symmetric cavitator is established, and assessment of k-ε-v2 -f turbulence model in simulating cavitating flows is conducted. It shows that the size of computational domain would affect the simulation result. Empirical formulae for supercavity dimensions about cavitation number at different wedge angles are obtained, which are of significant importance in the subsequent design of three-dimensional blade. The characteristics of resistance at different wedge angles are discussed, which, together with the characteristics of supercavity dimensions, play important roles in the optimal design of RSCE.

Neuroscience and neurology research is dominated by experimentation with *** 75%of neurology disease-associated genes have orthologs in Drosophila mel-anogaster,the fruit fly amenable to complex neurological and behavioral ***,non-vertebrate models including Drosophila have so far been unable to significantly replace mice and rats in this field of *** reason for this situ-ation is the predominance of gene overexpression(and gene loss-of-function)meth-odologies used when establishing a Drosophila model of a given neurological disease,a strategy that does not recapitulate accurately enough the genetic disease condi-tions.I argue here the need for a systematic humanization approach,whereby the Drosophila orthologs of human disease genes are replaced with the human *** approach will identify the list of diseases and the underlying genes that can be adequately modeled in the fruit fly.I discuss the neurological disease genes to which this systematic humanization approach should be applied and provide an example of such an application,and consider its importance for subsequent disease modeling and drug discovery in Drosophila.I argue that this paradigm will not only advance our un-derstanding of the molecular etiology of a number of neurological disorders,but will also gradually enable researchers to reduce experimentation using rodent models of multiple neurological diseases and eventually replace these models.

Strong free-surface water vortices are found throughout industrial hydraulic systems used for water treatment,flow regulation,and energy *** models using the volumetric flow rate as a model input have generally been semi-empirical,and have tended to have some limitations in terms of the design of practical hydropower *** this study,an analytical model of a strong free-surface water vortex was *** model only requires the water head and geometric parameters as its inputs and calculates the maximum volumetric flow rate,aircore diameter,and rotational *** experimental depthedischarge data from a full-scale gravitational vortex hydropower system,unavailable in the relevant literature,were obtained,and the simulated results showed excellent agreement with the experimental *** data could be used to verify similar models using laboratory-scale physical models in order to investigate the scaling *** contrast to previous models,this model does not assume a constant average velocity across the vortex radius and allows precise calculation of the resultant velocity ***,this model presents advantages in turbine design for energy generation systems.

Maximal and partial quantum yields of photosystem II(Fv/Fm and Fv–/Fp)in Phaseolus vulgaris leaves were determined in response to the turning on saturating and low(undersaturating)actinic light,*** lights(ML)of blue,green,and red colors were applied simultaneously using a novel method of the polychromatic fast Fourier transforming pulse amplitude modulation(FFT PAM)chlorophyll *** of ML were cross-combined with the colors of low and saturating actinic ***/Fm values measured with the green ML were found to be close to that of red light,whereas application of blue ML leads to lower Fv/*** addition,5-nm resolved excitation spectra were measured to evaluate the dependence between red/far red fluorescence ratios(peak height based–F685/F730,and deconvolved peak square based–F685sq/F730sq)and wavelength of the excitation *** demonstrates that chlorophyll fluorescence ratio red/far red may be dependent on the spectral absorbance of *** data obtained confirm the results of the previous studies which explain high photosynthetic activity of the green light in terms of redistribution of absorbed quanta throughout thickness of the leaf,thus suggesting possible advisability of green light application in greenhouse lighting,especially for the plants having thick leaves.

High-temperature annealing of(201)β-Ga_(2)O_(3) substrates for reducing structural defects after diamond sawing

A commercial epi-ready(201)β-Ga_(2)O_(3) wafer was investigated upon diamond sawing into pieces measuring 2.5×3 mm^(2).The defect structure and crystallinity in the cut samples has been studied by X-ray diffraction and a selective wet etching *** density of defects was estimated from the average value of etch pits calculated,including near-edge regions,and was obtained close to 109 cm^(-2).Blocks with lattice orientation deviated by angles of 1-3 arcmin,as well as non-stoichiometric fractions with a relative strain about(1.0-1.5)×10^(-4)in the[201]direction,were *** perfection was shown to decrease significantly towards the cutting lines of the *** reduce the number of structural defects and increase the crystal perfection of the samples via increasing defect motion mobility,the thermal annealing was *** and formation of a mosaic structure coupled with dislocation wall appearance upon 3 h of annealing at 1100℃ was *** fractions characterized by non-stoichiometry phases and the block deviation *** annealing for 11 h improved the homogeneity and perfection in the *** average density of the etch pits dropped down significantly to 8×10^(6) cm^(-2).
