New advanced num.rical com.uter m.del enabling accurate sim.lation of fragm.ntation param.ters of large Length over Diam.ter(L/D)explosively driven m.tal shells has been developed and *** newly developed large L/D m.lti-region m.del links three-dim.nsional axisym.etric high strain high strain-rate hydrocode analyses with the conventional set of Picatinny Arsenal FRAGm.ntation(PAFRAG)sim.lation *** standard PAFRAG m.deling technique is based on the m.tt's theory of break-up of idealized cylindrical"ring-bom.s",in which the length of the average fragm.nt is a function of the radius and velocity of the shell at the m.m.nt of break-up,and the m.chanical properties of the *** the newly developed m.lti-region m.del,each of the shell region,the break-up is assum.d to occur instantaneously,whereas the entire shell is m.deled to fragm.nt at m.ltiple tim.s,according to the num.er of the regions *** to PAFRAG m.thodology,the required input for both the natural and the controlled fragm.ntation m.dels including the geom.try and the velocity of the shell at m.m.nt of break-up had been provided from.the hydrocode analyses and validated with available experim.ntal *** newly developed large L/D m.lti-region PAFRAG m.del has been shown to accurately reproduce available experim.ntal fragm.ntation data.

The subject of this study is strike-slip fault zones, where tem.oral variations of accum.lation in strike-slip deform.tion com.licate the standard process of deform.tion accu- m.lation and release during strong earthquakes. These tem.oral variations are expressed in the E1 Ghab segm.nt of the Dead Sea Transform.zone （DST, Eastern m.diterranean） and in the Talas-Fergana fault zone （Central Asia）. According to Global Positioning System.（GPS） data, the strike-slip deform.tions within these zones are not now accum.lating or are accum.lating at a rate that is significantly less than their average rate during the Holocene and Quaternary or the Pliocene-Quaternary. Sim.ltaneously, weak transverse shortening has been m.asured in both zones by GPS. In both of these zones, strong earthquakes have not registered within the XX century, yet epochs of intensified seism.city （strong earthquakes） took place throughout history. In the southern and central parts of the E1 Ghab zone, there is evidence of 30 strong historical earthquakes of m. ≥ 5.7; however, no instrum.ntal earthquakes of m. 〉 5 have been identified. The tem.oral distribution of seism.c energy released by these earthquakes dem.nstrates a 350 ± 50-year cycle. Values for the seism.c energies released during the peak phases of these cycles are approxim.ted by a sinusoid that suggests the possibility of a 〉1800-year cycle （＂hyper-cycle＂）, which began around the 3rd century, reached its m.xim.m.in the 12th century, and has continued until now. A com.ination of geological, archaeoseism.logical, and geodetic data show that the rate of sinistral strike-slip deform.tion varied in the fault zone, probably in conform.ty with the variation of seism.city during the ＂hyper-cycle.＂ In the Talas-Fergana fault zone, trenching and 14C dating that was correlated with right lateral offsets, gave a possible prelim.nary estim.te of the average rates of the Late Holocene strike slip of about 10 m. per year, with a decrease in the SE directi

Thin organic film. find expanding applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices, biotechnology,food packing, and for m.ny other purposes. Am.ng other factors, the stability of film. with a thickness below a m.crom.ter is determ.ned by the zero-point and therm.l fluctuations of the electrom.gnetic field. These fluctuations result in the van der Waals and Casim.r free energy and forces between a film.and a substrate. The fluctuationinduced force m.y be both attractive and repulsive m.king the film.either m.re or less stable, respectively. Here, we review recently obtained results for the Casim.r free energy of both freestanding and deposited on the m.tallic and dielectric substrates peptide film.. We also perform.com.utations for the free energy of the peptide film. deposited on a silica glass substrate in the region of param.ters where this free energy vanishes. Possible applications of the obtained results are discussed.

Influence of different electric current m.des （pulse and direct） on occurrence of the electroplastic effect under uniaxialtension in the coarse-grained alloys with m.rtensite transform.tions is investigated. The m.terials are shape m.m.ryTi49.3Niso.7 alloy and m.tastable austenite transform.tion-induced plasticity （TRIP） steel. The paper contains experim.ntalresults of current im.act on the ＂stress-strain＂ curves of the m.terial. It has been taken an experim.ntal m.asurem.nt ofthe sam.le tem.erature during the test. It is shown that the shape of a stress-strain curves and type of the serrate plasticflow, connected with the m.rtensitic transform.tion and electroplastic effect, depend on the current m.des. Im.act of pulsecurrent and direct current suppresses shape m.m.ry and TRIP effect.

A detailed study of the m.neral com.osition and m.crostructure of the black shales associated with OAE1 a （Eastern Russian Platform., OAElb （m.ddle Caspian）, and the host rocks has been carried out using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron m.croscopic, and m.croprobe analyses. The results provide im.ortant constraints for depositional environm.nts in the sedim.ntary basins. Black shales with pyrite fram.oids im.ly euxinic （sulfidic） conditions with increased organic m.tter preservation. Disintegrating fram.oids suggest partial or com.lete dissolution of the organic m.tter inside the fram.oids due to increasing water oxygenation. OAEla on the Eastern Russian Platform.is heterogeneous as it includes thin interbeds of concretionary coccolith lim.stones within the interval of bitum.nous shales, and correlates with the Lower Aptian Rhagodiscus angustus nannofossil zone. The coccolith lim.stones indicate short interm.ttent episodes of interrupted stagnation, rapid oxygenation, and restoration of norm.l m.rine conditions. The presence of m.ntm.rillonite, albite, m.crocline, and diopside in the bitum.nous siltstones and in the host siltstones of OAEla on the Eastern Russian Platform. as well as a high content of titanium.in the black siltstones correlated with OAEIb in the m.ddle Caspian allow proposing significant input of pyroclastic m.terial into the extant sea.

We investigate in detail the self-assem.led nucleation and growth of vertically oriented GaN nanowires by m.lecular beam.epitaxy on crystalline TiN film.. We dem.nstrate that this type of substrate allows for the growth of long and thin GaN nanowires that do not suffer from.coalescence, a problem.com.on to the growth on Si and other substrates. Only beyond a certain nanowire length that depends on the nanowire density and exceeds here 1.5 bun, coalescence takes place by bundling, i.e. the sam. process as on Si. By analyzing the nearest neighbor distance distribution, we identify the diffusion-induced repulsion of neighboring nanowires as the m.in m.chanism.lim.ting nanowire density during nucleation on TiN. Since on Si the final density is determ.ned by shadowing of the im.inging m.lecular beam. by existing nanowires, it is the difference in adatom.surface diffusion that enables the form.tion of nanowire ensem.les with reduced density on TiN. These nanowire ensem.les com.ine properties that m.ke them.a prom.sing basis for the growth of core-shell heterostructures.

m.ne tailings, waste rock piles, acid m.ne drainage, industrial wastewater, and sewage sludge have contam.nated a vast area of cultivable and fallow lands, with a consequence of deterioration of soil and water quality and watercourses due to the erosion of contam.nated soils for absence of vegetative cover. High concentrations of toxic elem.nts, organic contam.nants, acidic soils, and harsh clim.tic conditions have m.de it difficult to re-establish vegetation and produce crops there. Recently, a significant body of work has focussed on the suitability and potentiality of biochar as a soil rem.diation tool that increases seed em.rgence, soil and crop productivity, above ground biom.ss, and vegetation cover on m.ne tailings, waste rock piles, and industrial and sewage waste- contam.nated soils by increasing soil nutrients and water-holding capacity, am.lioration of soil acidity, and stim.lation of m.crobial diversity and functions. This review addresses： i） the functional properties of biochar, and m.crobial cycling of nutrients in soil; ii） biorem.diation, especially phytorem.diation of m.ne railings, industrial waste, sewage sludge, and contam.nated soil using biochar; iii） im.act of biochar on reduction of acid production, acid m.ne drainage treatm.nt, and geochem.cal dynam.cs in m.ne railings; and iv） treatm.nt of m.tal and organic contam.nants in soils using biochar, and restoration of degraded land.
