In the Himalayan regions, precipitation-runoff relationships are amongst the most complex hydrological phenomena, due to varying topography and basin characteristics. In this study, different artificial neural networks （ANNs） algorithms were used to simulate daily nmoff at three discharge measuring sites in the Himalayan Kosi River Basin, India, using various combinations of precipitation-runoff data as input variables. The data used for this study was collected for the monsoon period （June to Oc- tober） during the years of 2005 to 2009. ANNs were trained using different training algorithms, leaming rates, length of data and number of hidden neurons. A comprehensive multi-criteria validation test for precipitation-runoff modeling has been un- dertaken to evaluate model performance and test its validity for generating scenarios. Global statistics have demonstrated that the multilayer perceptron with three hidden layers （MLP-3） is the best ANN for basin comparisons with other MLP networks and Radial Basis Functions （RBF）. Furthermore, non-parametric tests also illustrate that the MLP-3 network is the best net- work to reproduce the mean and variance of observed runoff. The performance of ANNs was demonstrated for flows during the monsoon season, having different soil moisture conditions during period from June to October.

The displacement of spleen from its normal location to other places is known as wandering spleen(WS)and is a rare *** repeated torsion of WS is due to the presence of long pedicle and absence/laxity of anchoring ligaments.A WS is an extremely rare cause of left-sided portal hypertension(PHT)and severe gastric variceal ***-sided PHT usually occurs as a result of splenic vein occlusion caused by splenic torsion,extrinsic compression of the splenic pedicle by enlarged spleen,and splenic vein *** is a paucity of data on WSrelated PHT,and these data are mostly in the form of case *** this review,we have analyzed the data of 20 reported cases of WS-related *** mechanisms of pathogenesis,clinico-demographic profile,and clinical implications are described in this *** majority of patients were diagnosed in the second to third decade of life(mean age:26 years),with a strong female preponderance(M:F=1:9).Eleven of the 20 WS patients with left-sided PHT presented with abdominal pain and *** 6 of the 11 patients,varices were detected incidentally on preoperative imaging studies or discovered ***,pre-operative search for varices is required in patients with splenic torsion.

Studies on Rhizospheric Mycoflora of Tea (Camellia sinensis): In vitro Antagonism with Dominant Bacteria

Species of Trichoderma, Penicillium, Aspergillus and Mucor were found to dominate the rhizosphere of tea bushes in different regions of the Indian Himalayas. The Himachal Himalayas were dominated by Monilia humiscola (45.08%) and Mucor hiemalis (33.11%). In the Uttaranchal Himalayas, Aspergillus clavatum dominated the rhizosphere (54.01%), followed by A. flavous (20.07%). Although the fungal isolates require a mesophillic temperature (15 ℃ to 35 ℃), the tea rhizospheric isolates tolerate a wide range of temperatures (5 ℃ to 45 ℃). When tested for pH tolerance, these fungi showed a wide range (2.0 to 13.0) of pH tolerance under in vitro conditions. Seasonal variations also influenced the colony forming units (cfu) of the rhizospheric fungi, with the maximum forming in November and March, and the minimum in December^February. During this period, the populations of the fungi were found inversely proportional to the bacterial populations. In addition, the dominant bacteria in the tea rhizosphere, i.e., Bacillus subtilis and B. mycoides, showed antagonistic activity against fungal isolates by inhibiting the growth and causing structural abnormalities in mycelium. Effect of replenishment of vitamin D on survival in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis:A prospective study

To assess the vitamin D (VD) deficiency as a prognostic factor and effect of replenishment of VD on mortality in decompensated cirrhosis. METHODSPatients with decompensated liver cirrhosis were screened for serum VD levels. A total of 101 VD deficient patients ( 0.05) and longer survival (155 d vs 141 d; P > 0.05) in treatment group compared to control group. VD level had no significant association with mortality (P > 0.05). In multivariate analysis, treatment with VD supplement was found significantly (P < 0.05; adjusted hazard ratio: 0.48) associated with survival of the patients over 6-mo. CONCLUSIONVD deficiency is very common in patients of decompensated CLD. Replenishment of VD may improve survival in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis.

Measurement of the nutrient concentrations in the stream is usually done on weekly, biweekly or monthly basis due to limited resources. There is need to estimate concentration and loads during the period when no data is available. The objectives of this study were to test the performance of a suite of regression models in predicting continuous water quality loading data and to determine systematic biases in the prediction. This study used the LOADEST model which includes several predefined regression models that specify the model form and complexity. Water quality data primarily nitrogen and phosphorus from five monitoring stations in the Neuse River Basin in North Carolina, USA were used in the development and analyses of rating curves. We found that LOADEST performed generally well in predicting loads and observation trends with general tendency/bias towards overestimation. Estimated Total Nitrogen (TN) varied from observation (“true” load) by -1% to 9%, but for the Total Phosphorus (TP) it ranged from -2% to 27%. Statistical evaluation using R2, Nash-Sutcliff Efficiency (NSE) and Partial Load Factor (PLF) showed a strong correlation in prediction.

The probability of capture of Mimas-Tethys in 2:4 resonance was found to be 0.76 by Champenois when they considered the orbit of Tethys to be elliptical (that is eccentricity of Tethys to be 0.0008) and chaos was taken into account. It means probability of capture in i21 or ?i23?resonance is 0.24 (i.e. probability of non capture in i1i3?resonance). Here we have done the comparative study of the dynamics of Mimas-Tethys system at i1i3, i1i3e3, i21e3, i23e3 and i21, i1i3e3, i21e3, i23e3 resonances along with secular resonance of Saturn’s six inner satellites and Saturn’s oblateness. We have drawn Poincare surface of sections and Time series graphs to compare their effect.
