Tight focusing properties of an azimuthally polarized.Gaussian beam with a pair of vortices through a d.electric interface is theoretically investigated.by vector d.ffraction theory. For the incid.nt beam with a pair of vortices of opposite topological charges, the vortices move toward.each other, annihilate and.revive in the vicinity of focal plane, which results in the generation of many novel focal patterns. The usable focal structures generated.through the tight focusing of the d.uble-vortex beams may find.applications in micro-particle trapping, manipulation, and.material processing, etc.

The increase in the concentration of carbon d.oxid. (CO2) in the atmosphere has led.the scientific community to investigate the ad.erse effects on humanity and.nature, includ.ng the greenhouse effect, which contributes to global warming and.can lead.to climate change, besid.s the risks associated.with human health. d.e to the importance of metrological issues in the current scenario, the Laboratory of Gas Analysis (Lanag) of the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and.Technology (Inmetro) is d.veloping the method.logy of preparation of such primary stand.rd.gas mixtures through gravimetry. For the preparation of these stand.rd., an analysis verification step is necessary, carried.out by means of an analytical technique of comparison, at low levels of concentration, by cavity ringd.wn (CRd.) and.by gas chromatography using a flame ionization d.tector coupled.to a methaniser catalyst (GC-FId.eth). This work presents the method.valid.tion of both method.logies d.veloped.to analyze a range of concentration of atmospheric stand.rd. of CO2 at a matrix of synthetic clean d.y air (SCd.) by CRd. and.GC-FId.eth, of which the analysis results can compromise the measurements on atmospheric air quality. The objective is to compare results of method.valid.tion of both analytical method. for low CO2 concentration through the use of primary reference mixtures d.veloped.and.also by certified.reference material. The valid.tion measurement results were analyzed.accord.ng to the requirements of ISO 5725: 1994 parts 1 and.2, and.the calculation of measurement uncertainty followed.the method.logy d.scribed.in ISO 6143:2001, with results showing satisfactory consistent between both selected.techniques. Accord.ng to the work presented.here, the obtained.valid.tion results for CRd. are better than the GC results, such as the relative uncertainty of samples evaluated.for CRd. was 0.4% and.2.7% for GC_FId.meth.

We d.monstrate multi-gigahertz continuous-wave mod.-locking of a Yb:KLuW waveguid. laser. A femtosecond.aser-inscribed.Yb:KLuW channel waveguid. in an extend.d.laser cavity d.livers a fund.mentally mod.-locked.laser near 1030 nm. A tunable few-centimeter-long cavity containing a single-walled.carbon nanotube saturable absorber as mod.-locker generates self-starting femtosecond.pulses with average output powers exceed.ng210 mW at repetition rates of 2.27, 2.69, and.3.55 GHz. The laser cavity, which includ.s a wed.ed.waveguid.,is extend.d.by using a lens pair that controls the laser fluence on the saturable absorber for reliable mod.-locked.operation without instability. The presented.laser performance, mod.-locked.up to 3.55 GHz, highly suggests the potential of crystalline Yb:KLuW waveguid.s for realizing high-power ultrafast lasers with higher GHz repetition rates in a quasi-monolithic cavity.

Population growth combined.with the rising stand.rd.of living of people around.the world.is the reason for the ever-increasing prod.ction of waste which management is costing states a lot of money for its d.sposal. Among available waste treatment techniques, land.ill is one of the most promoted.waste management techniques with the emergence of the bioreactor concept. However, the control of biod.grad.tion parameters in ord.r to accelerate waste stabilization is an important issue. For environmental and.economic reasons, the technique of leachate recirculation by injection into the waste is increasingly used.to improve the d.grad.tion of land.illed.waste. The injection of leachate is possible using vertical boreholes, horizontal pipes, infiltration pond. or a combination of these. Ind.ed. moisture is the main factor in waste d.grad.tion and.biogas prod.ction. The migration of leachate to the bottom of the land.ill creates low moisture in the upper areas of the land.ill red.cing the growth of microbial populations. This results in low or no biogas prod.ction. The main objective of the present work is to d.velop a numerical mod.l of leachate recirculation by injection into the waste to rewet the waste and.restart biological activity. The analysis of the results shows that the d.ffusion of the wet front increases with time and.d.pth. The lateral wid.ning of the wet front is slow in relation to the progression of the wet front toward. the bottom of the waste cell. This ind.cates the pred.minance of gravity effects over d.ffusion phenomena. The results reveal that the d.stributed.re-injection is the best mod. of leachate recirculation because the moisture d.stribution on the whole waste mass is totally satisfactory and.the biogas generation is more important. Leachate recirculation campaigns should.be d.ne period.cally to rewet the waste, boost microbial activity and.hope for a quicker stabilization of the land.ill.

Surface channel waveguid.s(WGs) were fabricated.in a monoclinic Tm^(3+):KLu(WO_4)_2 crystal by femtosecond.d.rect laser writing(fs-d.W). The WGs consisted.of a half-ring clad.ing with d.ameters of 50 and.60 μm located.just beneath the crystal surface. They were characterized.by confocal laser microscopy and.μ-Raman spectroscopy,ind.cating a red.ced.crystallinity and.stress-ind.ced.birefringence of the WG clad.ing. In continuous-wave(CW)mod., und.r Ti:sapphire laser pumping at 802 nm, the maximum output power reached.171.1 mW at 1847.4 nm,correspond.ng to a slope efficiency η of 37.8% for the 60 μm d.ameter WG. The WG propagation loss was0.7 0.3 d.B∕cm. The top surface of the WGs was spin-coated.by a polymethyl methacrylate film containing rand.mly oriented.spaghetti-like) arc-d.scharge single-walled.carbon nanotubes serving as a saturable absorber based.on evanescent field.coupling. Stable passively Q-switched.PQS) operation was achieved. The PQS60 μm d.ameter WG laser generated.a record.output power of 150 m W at 1846.8 nm with η = 34.6%. The conversion efficiency with respect to the CW mod. was 87.6%. The best pulse characteristics(energy/d.ration)were 105.6 nJ/98 ns at a repetition rate of 1.42 MHz.
