Background: Th. use of nutritional supplements(NS) among ath.etes is widespread. h.wever, little is known about th. relationsh.p between nutritional adequacy and NS usage. Th. aims of th.s study were to evaluate th. NS usage and to compare th. nutritional intake from food and prevalence of micronutrient inadequacy(PMI) between NS users and ***: Portuguese ath.etes from 13 sports completed an NS usage questionnaire and a semi-quantitative food-frequency questionnaire assessing information over th. previous 12 month.. Th. estimated average requirement cut-point meth.d was used to calculate PMI. General linear models were used to compare nutritional intake and NS usage. Ch.-squared tests and logistic regression were performed to study, respectively,relationsh.ps and associations between PMI and NS ***: From th. 244 ath.etes(66% males, 13–37 years), 64% reported NS usage. After adjustment, NS users sh.wed a h.gh.r intake from food(p h. 17 studied nutrients. Th. h.gh.st PMI were seen for vitamins D and E, calcium, folate,and magnesium. After adjustment, NS users, irrespective of gender, reported lower PMI for calcium(OR = 0.28, 95%CI: 0.12–0.65), and female users for magnesium(OR = 0.06, 95%CI: 0.00–0.98).Conclusion: Ath.etes using NS reported a h.gh.r nutritional intake from food, and a lower PMI for several nutrients. Perh.ps, th.se wh. were taking NS were probably th. ones wh. would least benefit from it.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are an uncommon group of tumors of mesench.mal origin. GIST of th. anal canal is extremely rare. At present, only 10 cases of c-kit positive anal GIST h.ve been reported in th. literature. Th.re is no widely accepted treatment approach.for th.s neoplasia. Literature is sparse on imaging evaluation of anal canal GIST, usually described as a lesion in th. intersph.ncteric space. We describe th. case of a 73-year-old man with.a mass in th. anal canal, and no oth.r symptoms. Endoanal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging sh.wed a well circumscribed solid nodule in th. intersph.ncteric space. Th. patient was treated by local excision. Gross path.logical examination sh.wed a 7 cm × 3.5 cm × 3 cm mass, and h.stological examination sh.wed a proliferation of spindle cells, with.prominent nuclear palisading. Th. mitotic count was of 12 mitoses/50 h.F. Th. tumor was positive for KIT protein, CD34 and vimentin in th. majority of cells, and negative for desmin and S100. A diagnosis of GIST, with.h.gh.risk aggressive beh.vior was made. An abdomino-perineal resection was discussed, but refused. Th. follow-up included clinical evaluation and anal ultrasound. After 5 years th. patient is well, with.maintained continence and no evidence of local recurrence.

Th.s study investigates th. torsional galloping ph.nomenon, an instability type flow-induced oscillation, in an elastic stru-cture due to h.drodynamic loads into th. water current. Th. structure applied h.re is a rectangular flat plate with.an elastic axis in its mid-ch.rd length. Th. elasticity is provided by torsion spring. Th. flat plate h.s only one degree of freedom wh.ch.is rotation in pure yaw about its axis. It is observed th.t as th. current speed is h.gh.r th.n a critical velocity, th. flat plate becomes unstable. Th. instability leads to torsional galloping occurrence, as a result of wh.ch.th. flat plate begins to yaw about th. elastic axis. By testing two different ch.rd length. each.with.several torsion spring rates, th. flat plate beh.vior is investigated and th.ee different responses are recognized. Th.n, a ph.nomenological model is developed with.th. original kernel in th. form of th. van der Pol-Duffing equa-tion. Th. model explains th.se th.ee responses observed experimentally.

Fisch.r-Tropsch.synth.sis is an important ch.mical process for th. production of liquid fuels and olefins. In recent years, th. abundant availability of natural gas and th. increasing demand of olefins, diesel, and waxes h.ve led to a h.gh.interest to furth.r develop th.s process. A math.matical model of a slurry membrane reactor used for syngas polymerization was developed to simulate and compare th. maximum yields and operating conditions in th. reactor with.th.t in a conventional slurry reactor. Th. carbon polymerization was studied from a modeling point of view in a slurry reactor with.a water permeable membrane and a conventional slurry reactor. Simulation results sh.w th.t different parameters affect syngas conversion and carbon product distribution, such.as th. h.drogen to carbon monoxide ratio, and th. membrane parameters such.as membrane permeance.

Th.s work describes investigations performed on th. interaction of uniform current and freely rotating plate about a fixed vertical axis. Fluttering and autorotation are two different motions th.t may occur during th. flow induced rotation. Th. dimensional analysis proves th.t th. motion in flow induced rotation motion is governed essentially by th. dimensionless moment of inertia and Reynolds number. Certain combinations define th. stability boundaries between fluttering and autorotation. Fluttering is oscillation of body about a vertical axis and th. autorotation is a name given to th. case wh.n th. body turns continuously about th. vertical axis First, th. loads and moment coefficients are calculated by experiments and streamline th.ory for different angles of attack for a fixed fiat plate. Th.n for dynamic case, a bifurcation diagram is presented based on experiments to classify different motion states of flow induced rotation. Finally, a dynamical model is proposed for stability analysis of flow induced rotation of a flat plate.

Presently, th.re is a h.gh.paucity of bone grafts in th. United States and worldwide. Regenerating bone is of prime concern due to th. current demand of bone grafts and th. increasing number of diseases causing bone loss. Autogenous bone is th. present gold standard of bone regeneration. h.wever, disadvantages like donor site morbidity and its decreased availability limit its use. Even allografts and synth.tic grafting materials h.ve th.ir own limitations. As certain specific stem cells can be directed to differentiate into an osteoblastic lineage in th. presence of growth.factors(GFs), it makes stem cells th. ideal agents for bone ***, platelet-rich.plasma(PRP), wh.ch.can be easily isolated from wh.le blood, is often used for bone regeneration, wound h.aling and bone defect repair. Wh.n stem cells are combined with.PRP in th. presence of GFs, th.y are able to promote osteogenesis. Th.s review provides in-depth.knowledge regarding th. use of stem cells and PRP in vitro, in vivo and th.ir application in clinical studies in th. future.

Th. oil viscosity specification for wind turbine gear oils is ISO VG 320,alth.ugh.th.re are quite different viscosity indexes oils for th.t viscosity *** work evaluates th. beh.viour of different base oil formulations,since polyalph.olefin(PAO),mineral,ester and polyalkeleneglycol(PAG)th.t with.tand quite different viscosity *** oils evaluation was done in rolling bearing tests and gear *** beh.viour was compared for operating conditions in th. range observable in a wind turbine *** experimental results sh.wed considerable differences between th. different oils and it was observed th.t depending on th. contact type th. relative beh.viour of th. lubricants would ch.nge,i.e.,th. best lubricant for th. rolling bearing would not imply th. best result on th. gear *** gear geometry is also very important toward th. transmission efficiency,once using a low loss gear concept a decrease of up to 25%in torque loss could be *** models were implemented with.th. purpose of performing a better simulation of th. mech.nical system and also to obtain th. friction coefficient promoted by th. tested oils.
