Comparative Study of the Complications of Pedicular Screw Fixation Techniques in the Thoracolumbar Spine: A Systematic Review

Introduction: The use of pedicle screws increases postoperative stability and consolidation of arthrodesis. Pedicle arthrodesis is currently the standard treatment for the thoracolumbar spine, presenting the best fusion and stiffness rates, and among its main indications is the possibility of better correction of spine deformities in the thoracic and lumbar region. However, due to different definitions and the lack of a control group, many of these studies have limited comparative analysis, resulting in the scarcity of comparative studies with standardized methodology. Objective: It was to analyze, through a systematic review, the safety and efficacy of instrumentation with pedicle screws in the spine which have been questioned, despite its wide use for stabilization of the spine, comparing the complications present in the insertion techniques of pedicle screws. Methods: The rules of the Systematic Review-PRISMA were followed. The literary search process was carried out from January to March 2023. A bibliographic search was carried out in MEDLINE, PubMed, and Scielo for articles produced between 2001 and 2023. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument, and the risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. The Cohen test (Funnel Plot) and The Heterogeneity Test (Chi-Square Test – X2) were performed, with p Results and Conclusion: A total of 134 articles were found. A total of 67 articles were evaluated in full and 12 were selected to compose the results of this systematic review. According to the GRADE instrument, most studies (X2 = 90.2% > 50%) followed a controlled clinical study model and had a good methodological design, with p < 0.05. It was shown that poor positioning of pedicle screws is the most common cause of complications. REE Distribution Pattern in Plants and Soils from Pitinga Mine—Amazon,Brazil

The rare earth element contents of plant specimens of the families Rhamnaceae, Ampelozizyphus amazonicus Ducke (local name: Saracura-Mirá) and of Pteridófitas from genus Gleichenia sp. e Adiantum sp. (ferns) were determined and compared to those of the soils, in the Pitinga Mine area, Amazon, Brazil. The Pitinga mine district has large tin reserves genetically related to two granite bodies, Agua Boa e Madeira, both intrusive in volcanic rocks included in the Iricoumé Group. This deposit contains, also, bodies of cryolite and rare metals, such as Zr, Nb, Ta, Y and REE. The REE biogeochemical signatures, shown by the collected plants, reflect the patterns of the respective soils. The Eu and Ce anomalies shown by some plant samples are inherited from soils, as well. The higher contents of REE observed in fern samples confirm they are accumulators and reflect the abundance of REE in the soils of Pitinga Mine region. Additionally, that supports their potential use in geochemical exploration and bioremediation. The results of this study stress the importance of biogeochemical research integrated with geochemistry of soils, rocks and minerals.

Combined multimodal nonlinear optical (NLO) microscopies were used to detect and quantify morphological changes associated with stroma and epithelial transformation in colon cancer. Our findings provide complementary information about tissue microstructure, displaying distinctive patterns between normal and malignant human colon. Additionally, we have demonstrated the usefulness of using fixed tissues for the disease diagnostic and prognostic.?The present work provides a framework for using NLO techniques as a clinical diagnostic tool for human colon cancer. NLO metrics could be applied to other disorders, which are characterized by abnormal cell proliferation and collagen assembly.

In the commercial poultry chain, a great diversity of production systems is found to meet the needs of the market, since the consumer has become increasingly aware of the importance of the relationship between diet and health, which has encouraged researchers and the food industry to develop products enriched with nutrients capable of producing beneficial effects on health. There has been increasing progress in research aimed at including viable alternative products, such as plant extracts, in poultry diets, which have been shown to have an antimicrobial and antioxidant action and to promote improvements in animal performance. Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is a popular medicinal herb, which shows a wide range of pharmacological properties, such as antioxidant, antiangiogenic, antitumor, antivenom, antinflammatory, antimicrobial, antiproliferative, antiprotozoal, and antiaging. The use of turmeric in poultry production has been reported by many researchers. The aim of this review is to describe and report the most recent research on the use of turmeric as feed supplement for birds and so its effect on animal health and welfare.

Fermentation Characteristics of Silage of Sugar Cane Treated with Calcium Oxide,Lactobacillus buchneri and Their Associations

We evaluated the fermentation products, the gaseous and effluent losses of sugarcane silages without calcium oxide (CaO) or with CaO addition, at the levels of zero, 0.8%, 1.6% and 2.4%, in association with the microbial additive Lactobacillus buchneri inoculated at the levels of zero, 50.000, 100.000 e 150.000 ufc/g of sugarcane, wet bases. The variety RB855536, harvested after 12 months of first growth was used. The experiment design was the completely randomized design, in a 4 × 4 factorial arrangement. They were evaluated in the silages, the contents of volatile fatty acids, lactic acid, ethanol, and the pH, as well as the gaseous and effluent losses. In the analysis of the data, the SAS system was utilized. It was observed on interaction effect of the chemical and microbial additive over the contents of lactic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, ethanol and over the gaseous and effluents losses. However, there was no interaction effect regarding to pH. When it was observed on interaction effect of additives, the effects of the levels of one additive were evaluated by regression analysis in each level of each other, and vice-versa. The level 1.6% of CaO associated to the level 50,000 ufc/g of natural matter of Lactobacillus buchneri provided adequate levels of lactic acid (superior to 4.5%), and of acetic acid (around 1%), moderate content of propionic acid (0.55%), low content of butyric acid (0.05%) and controlled the production of ethanol and the gaseous and effluent losses. The pH of the silages were influenced by CaO addition, but were not affected consistently by microbial inoculation.

Probabilistic Study of Landslide Susceptibility in the Sagrado River Watershed,Brazil

In this paper,we present a probabilistic study of landslide susceptibility at the Sagrado River Watershed in Morretes,*** area is characterized by slopes higher than 20%in a large part of the relief,variable soil depths,and by strong rainfall intensities due to orographic *** together,these factors promote the occurrence of translational *** occupation is distributed along the lowlands and on the less inclined slopes of the Serra do *** infinite slope method was used to determine the distribution of susceptibility to *** parameters of the model consisted of geotechnical soil parameters,soil layer thickness,slope of the hillside,and matric suction,and the analysis implemented a Monte Carlo probabilistic *** such,this method allows the quantification of uncertainties due to the variability in geotechnical parameters,which enables the determination of a probability of *** elaboration of susceptibility maps to landslides for unsaturated soil conditions represents a useful tool to support the identification of critical events occurrences in this location.

Correlation between Solar Semi-Diameter and Geomagnetic Time Series

We study the correlation between geomagnetic and solar semi-diameter measurements made at two of our ground stations (Vassouras and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The study comprises the period from March 1998 to November 2003, for which daily means were compared. Both series describe correlated, but different, phenomena and, consequently, before a correlation study, an individual analysis of each data set was necessary. One of the motivations of the present work was to further explore the correlation with lags found between the solar semi-diameter and some solar activity estimators, which supports the probabilistic forecasting of the solar activity and hence, of the solar driven geomagnetic variations.

阿塞拜疆的石油工业已兴旺了一个多世纪。阿普歇伦（Apsheron）半岛、阿普歇伦岩床、阿塞拜疆陆地和陆架边缘的勘探程度都很高。但是，里海大面积海域（包括南里海深水区、土库曼斯坦陆架和中里海）的勘探程度仍比较低。深入认识这些地区储层和盖层的地层特征有助于大幅度降低勘探风险。晚中新世以来古伏尔加河、古阿姆河和古库拉河三角洲的相互作用是区内远景构造分布的一级控制因素。从上中新统至下上新统，南里海和中里海盆地西缘出现了连续的海岸上超，导致这些地层上超到中新统和白垩系之上。这些海岸上超与下、上产油层系沉积期间的湖平面上升有关。这三个三角洲沉积体系在沉积方式和时间上有明显不同，对湖平面上升的反应也不一样。在南里海盆地东缘土库曼斯坦陆架上，古阿姆河三角洲发生了强烈的进积。这次进积作用与土库曼斯坦上新统雷德（Red）层系[阿塞拜疆佩雷里瓦（Pereryva）组至苏拉哈尼（Surakhany）组的同期地层]的沉积有关。因此，古阿姆河三角洲在湖平面上升过程中发生了进积作用，主要控制因素是沉积物供应。在佩雷里瓦组沉积过程中，阿普歇伦地区（南里海北缘）古伏尔加河三角洲发生了加积作用。从巴拉哈尼（Balakhany）组上段到苏拉哈尼组，中里海盆地处于海侵期，同时可能表明当时的古伏尔加河三角洲发生了后退。在中里海盆地的西南缘，古库拉河沉积体系在巴拉哈尼组上段和萨本奇（Sabunchi）组沉积过程中（早上新世）发生了后退。在苏拉哈尼组中段沉积期，在古库拉河三角洲的基底上发育了一个下超面。里海西缘的这一下超面可以与盆地东缘古阿姆河三角洲进积相的上部进行对比。在苏拉哈尼组上段和阿克查古尔（Akchagylian）组（上上新统）沉积的同时，还发育了古库拉河进积楔体。对于来自伊朗厄尔布尔士山脉的沉积物源影响，因缺乏必要的数据而无法进行评估。气候变化也通过对湖平面和沉积物源的直接影响而控制着南里海盆地的沉积方式。整个产油层系的沉积期也正值上新世的黄金气候期，当时地球的气候总体上要比现在温暖得多。此外，就短期而言，地层沉积特征受控于高频气候周期。晚期低水位沉积环境以加积的辫状河和辫状三角洲为主，而海进期和高水位的沉积物由大面积的湖相页岩构成，同时夹有粉砂岩和砂岩。这些海进页岩可以作为大面积的封盖层和储层中的隔层。在湖平面下降期间，似乎极少有砂子注入湖泊中。

Cecum Dieulafoy＇s Lesion Presenting with Recurrent Lower Gastrointestinal Bleeding： Case Report

Introduction： Gastrointestinal Dieulafoy＇s lesion is a rare entity, of unknown etiology, and corresponds to an arterial malformation at the submucosal space that can be a source of life-threatening hemorrhage. We report a case of a Cecum Dieulafoy＇s bleeding lesion that was managed endoscopically with a favorable outcome. Case report： Female, 70-year-old, diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, and chronic heart failure associated with rheumatic mitral stenosis, submitted to biological valve replacement in 2006 and with permanent atrial fibrillation using vitamin K antagonist anticoagulant for thrombosis prophylaxis. Her background includes a stroke in 2004 without any permanent disability. In 2016, the patient experienced voluptuous and painless lower gastrointestinal bleeding with severe acute anemia, requiring hospital admission, fluid resuscitation and blood transfusion. Urgent colonoscopy revealed a small reddish vascular malformation at the cecum with oozing active bleeding, about 3 mm in size. Initially argon plasma coagulation was performed with satisfactory and immediate hemostasis. One week later, she recurred with hematochezia. The lesion at the cecum was reassessed and it was possible to notice a large caliber vessel surrounded by a normal appearance mucosa, compatible with Dieulafoy＇s lesion and it was treated with an endoscopic clip placement with a good long-term response. Conclusion： Endoscopy is the method of choice for diagnosis of Dieulafuy＇s lesion and may provide efficient treatment with mechanical hemostasis such as endoclip placement with a high success rate.
