Additive manufacturing of biodegradable porous orthopaedic screw

Advent of additive manufacturing in biomedical field has nurtured fabrication of complex,customizable and reproducible orthopaedic ***-by-layer deposition of biodegradable polymer employed in development of porous orthopaedic screws promises gradual dissolution and complete metabolic resorption thereby overcoming the limitations of conventional metallic *** the present study,screws with different pore sizes(916×918μm to 254×146μm)were 3D printed at 200μm layer height by varying printing parameters such as print speed,fill density and travel speed to augment the bone ***-CT analysis and scanning electron micrographs of screws with 45%fill density confirmed porous interconnections(40.1%)and optimal pore size(259×207×200μm)without compromising the mechanical strength(24.58±1.36 MPa).Due to the open pore structure,the 3D printed screws showed increased weight gain due to the deposition of calcium when incubated in simulated body ***-like cells attached on screw and infiltrated into the pores over 14 days of in vitro ***,the screws also supported greater human mesenchymal stem cell adhesion,proliferation and mineralized matrix synthesis over a period of 21 days in vitro culture as compared to non-porous *** porous screws showed significantly increased vascularization in a rat subcutaneous implantation as compared to control *** screws produced by additive manufacturing may promote better osteointegration due to enhanced mineralization and vascularization.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)stands out as the primary manifestation of age-related dementia,portraying a chronic neurodegenerative disorder distinguished by the accumulation of fibrillar amyloid-β(Aβ)plaques and neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated ***,from a clinical standpoint,AD presents itself as a complex condition with a spectrum of dysfunctions rather than a singular pathological *** often-overlooked aspect of the disease is the presence of extensive cerebrovascular abnormalities,given that the majority of AD patients experience altered cerebral blood flow,damaged vasculature,increased microinfarcts and *** models of AD further support this observation,showing cerebrovascular dysfunction such as impaired cerebral blood flow and altered cerebrovascular reactivity(Tataryn et al.,2021;Gareau et al.,2023).

Modelling an Efficient Clinical Decision Support System for Heart Disease Prediction Using Learning and Optimization Approaches

With the worldwide analysis,heart disease is considered a significant threat and extensively increases the mortality ***,the investigators mitigate to predict the occurrence of heart disease in an earlier stage using the design of a better Clinical Decision Support System(CDSS).Generally,CDSS is used to predict the individuals’heart disease and periodically update the condition of the *** research proposes a novel heart disease prediction system with CDSS composed of a clustering model for noise removal to predict and eliminate ***,the Synthetic Over-sampling prediction model is integrated with the cluster concept to balance the training data and the Adaboost classifier model is used to predict heart ***,the optimization is achieved using the Adam Optimizer(AO)model with the publicly available dataset known as the Stalog *** flowis used to construct the model,and the evaluation is done with various prevailing approaches like Decision tree,Random Forest,Logistic Regression,Naive Bayes and so *** statistical analysis is done with theWilcoxon rank-summethod for extracting the p-value of the *** observed results show that the proposed model outperforms the various existing approaches and attains efficient prediction *** model helps physicians make better decisions during complex conditions and diagnose the disease at an earlier ***,the earlier treatment process helps to eliminate the death ***,simulation is done withMATLAB 2016b,and metrics like accuracy,precision-recall,F-measure,p-value,ROC are analyzed to show the significance of the model.

Enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity of samarium-doped zinc oxide nanostructures

In the present work,we have synthesized samarium doped zinc oxide nanostructures(Zn1-xSmxO;x=0.00,0.02,0.04 and 0.06) via chemical precipitation method and studied their structural,morphological,optical and photocatalytic properties.X-ray diffraction(XRD) patterns,PL and Raman spectra results indicate that the undoped and Sm-doped ZnO nanostructures are crystallized in a hexagonal wurtzite *** images show that the morphology of the sample changes from cubical to hexagonal nanostructures with increase in Sm3+doping *** EDX spectra confirm the incorporation of Sm3+ion in *** influence of Sm3+doping on the structure,morphology,absorption,emission and photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanostructures were investigated *** addition of Sm3+ion leads to a red shift in the optical energy band gap from 3.19 to 2.67 eV and hence,increases the visible light absorption *** presence of E2(H) and E1(LO) modes in microRaman spectra confirms the crystallinity and defects in the *** detailed photocatalytic experiments reveal that Sm-doped ZnO nanostructures show the maximum photodegradation efficiency for Methylene blue(MB) dye for x=0.04,i,e.,94.94%,under visible light *** photocatalytic efficiency improves by 6.98 times when ZnO is doped with rare earth metal ion(Sm3+) and is a potential candidate for practical *** investigation demonstrates that as-synthesized nano-sized photocatalysts act as an efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of MB dye.

A High Order Spectral Volume Formulation for Solving Equations Containing Higher Spatial Derivative Terms II:Improving the Third Derivative Spatial Discretization Using the LDG2 Method

In this paper,the second in a series,we improve the discretization of the higher spatial derivative terms in a spectral volume(SV)*** motivation for the above comes from[***.,46(2),314–328],wherein the authors developed a variant of the LDG(Local Discontinuous Galerkin)flux discretization *** variant(aptly named LDG2),not only displayed higher accuracy than the LDG approach,but also vastly reduced its unsymmetrical *** this paper,we adapt the LDG2 formulation for discretizing third derivative terms.A linear Fourier analysis was performed to compare the dispersion and the dissipation properties of the LDG2 and the LDG *** results of the analysis showed that the LDG2 scheme(i)is stable for 2nd and 3rd orders and(ii)generates smaller dissipation and dispersion errors than the LDG formulation for all the *** 4th order LDG2 scheme is howevermildly unstable:as the real component of the principal eigen value briefly becomes *** order to circumvent the above,a weighted average of the LDG and the LDG2 fluxes was used as the final numerical *** a weight of 1.5%for the LDG(i.e.,98.5%for the LDG2)was sufficient tomake the scheme *** scheme is still predominantly LDG2 and hence generated smaller dissipation and dispersion errors than the LDG *** experiments are performed to validate the *** general,the numerical results are very promising and indicate that the approach has a great potential for higher dimension Korteweg-de Vries(KdV)type problems.

In this paper,we develop a formulation for solving equations containing higher spatial derivative terms in a spectral volume(SV)context;more specifically the emphasis is on handling equations containing third derivative *** formulation is based on the LDG(Local Discontinuous Galerkin)flux discretization method,originally employed for viscous equations containing second derivatives.A linear Fourier analysis was performed to study the dispersion and the dissipation properties of the new *** Fourier analysis was utilized for two purposes:firstly to eliminate all the unstable SV partitions,secondly to obtain the optimal SV *** experiments are performed to illustrate the capability of this *** this formulation is extremely local,it can be easily parallelized and a h-p adaptation is relatively straightforward to *** general,the numerical results are very promising and indicate that the approach has a great potential for higher dimension Korteweg-de Vries(KdV)type problems.

Bile leak after laparoscopic cholecystectomy remains a significant cause of postoperative *** duct stump is the most common site(~70%)of bile leak after cholecystectomy[1].Incidence of bile leak from the cystic duct stump is 0.5%−3%which is higher(4%−7%)in cases with complicated gallstone disease(*** cholecystitis)[2].Bile leak in postoperative period after cholecystectomy,manifesting as bile in intraoperatively placed drain or as an intrabdominal collection,localized or generalized,is considered a complication secondary to bile duct injury(BDI)that was sustained during the *** to the site of leak,such bile leak is classified as an iatrogenic BDI,and is subsequently categorised depending on the site of leak if that is localized on subsequent investigations.

The exponential pace of the spread of the digital world has served as one of the assisting forces to generate an enormous amount of informationﬂow-ing over the *** data will always remain under the threat of technolo-gical suffering where intruders and hackers consistently try to breach the security systems by gaining personal information *** this paper,the authors pro-posed the HDTbNB(Hybrid Decision Tree-based Naïve Bayes)algorithm toﬁnd the essential features without data scaling to maximize the model’s performance by reducing the false alarm rate and training period to reduce zero frequency with enhanced accuracy of IDS(Intrusion Detection System)and to further analyze the performance execution of distinct machine learning algorithms as Naïve Bayes,Decision Tree,K-Nearest Neighbors and Logistic Regression over KDD 99 *** performance of algorithm is evaluated by making a comparative analysis of computed parameters as accuracy,macro average,and weighted ***ﬁndings were concluded as a percentage increase in accuracy,precision,sensitiv-ity,speciﬁcity,and a decrease in misclassiﬁcation as 9.3%,6.4%,12.5%,5.2%and 81%.

Flow distribution headers play a major role in heat *** selection of header diameter,branch pipe diameter,branch pipe spacing *** based on the designer＇s experience and general guide *** proper selection of the header dimensions will yield uniform flow distribution in heat exchangers,which in turn will enhance the heat exchanger *** this work,the flow distribution in branch pipes and the pressure variation across the branch pipes in laminar and low turbulence region is studied with two models of the inlet dividing *** the numerical analysis has been applied,its inability to predict the no flow condition through the branch pipes is *** results are presented in the form of flow rate ratio through branch pipes and nondimensional coefficients across branch pipes which are useful to apply the existing mathematical models for the present experimental setup.
