The last decades have represented an important season in the re-conceptualization of.brain plasticity,especially in extending the concept at events occurring beyond the developmental stage and in demonstrating the prof.und impact of.these changes on so-called spontaneous recovery af.er central nervous system(CNS)*** study of.the cellular,molecular,f.nctional and structural mechanisms involved in brain plasticity has clearly emphasized the multitude of.players engaged in this phenomenon,leading to the conceptualization that non-neuronal cells and non-neuronal mechanisms intervene in these changes and orchestrate some of.the responses observed(Werner and Stevens,2015).Among the dif.erent non-neuronal cells and non-neuronal substrates of.injury-induced plasticity is becoming increasingly recognized that microglia drive a series of.intrinsic CNS responses af.er damage(Sandvig et al.,2018;Bisicchia et al.,2019).

Childhood maltreatment(CM)has been consistently linked with numerous detrimental outcomes concerning physical and psychological ***,f.w studies have explored vulnerability to neurological disorders af.er *** lif. adversity,in the f.rm of.poverty,stress and abuse,has been associated with decline in cognitive f.nction and dementia later in lif.(Short and Baram,2019).Robust preclinical data suggest that early lif. stress(ELS)may increase the risk and worsen the course of.neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s(AD)and Parkinson’s(PD)diseases,and traumatic brain injury(TBI)(Lesuis et al.,2018;Short and Baram,2019;He et al.,2020;Catale et al.,2021;Sanchez et al.,2021).

Since their f.rst description in the brains of.patients suf.ering f.om Alzheimer ’s disease(AD), more than 100 years ago, extracellular amyloid-β(Aβ) plaques and intracellular neurof.brillary tangles have been the principal f.cus of.AD research. However, this f.cus has led to the f.ilure of.several long and promising clinical trials, and the ef.icacy of.new Aβ-targeting drugs to slow down the disease progression is still controversial despite being successf.l in reducing the Aβ load.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the sixth most common malignancy in women. Ovarian tumors consist of.several clinical and pathological entities that share an anatomic site. The gold standard treatment, both in f.ont-line and in adjuvant setting, is represented by carboplatin/paclitaxel combination. Conversely, the second-line treatment is not well def.ned. The response to platinum is the major prognostic f.ctor f.r survival. In this review we discuss the current views on platinum-ref.actory/resistant patient treatment only, which includes patients progressing or relapsing within 6 months f.om the last platinum-based course. Concerning this subgroup, the activity of.several conventional drugs was conf.rmed in dif.erent trials without a signif.cant impact in terms of.overall survival. In the last years particular emphasis was given to targeted anti-angiogenetic therapy which produced a survival improvement with an acceptable toxicity prof.le. New “ad hoc” approaches, with a major attention to outcome-predictive f.ctors, are eagerly awaited.
