Human vitamin de?ciencies still o.cur in many co.ntries altho.gh mo.t vitamins are present in a variety o. fo.ds, mainly because o. malnutritio. no. o.ly as a result o. insuf?cient fo.d intake but also.because o. unbalanced diets;this wo.k screens so.e Lactic acid bacteria iso.ated fro. selected Nigerian fermented fo.ds fo. vitamin (thiamine, ribo.lavin and niacin) pro.uctio.. Five lactic acid bacteria were iso.ated fro. selected Nigerian fermented fo.ds (yo.hurt, o.i, o.iri, ugba). The iso.ated lactic acid bacteria were identified based o. cultural and bio.hemical characteristics. All the iso.ates were screened fo. thiamine, ribo.lavin and niacin pro.uctio. using micro.io.o.ical assay. Thiamine, ribo.lavin and niacin pro.uced were quantified. The five lactic acid bacteria iso.ated were Lacto.acillus plantarum, Lacto.acillus brevis, Lacto.acillus fermentum, Lacto.acillus casei and Lacto.o.cus lactis. The mo.t frequent iso.ate was Lacto.acillus plantarum (100%) fo.lo.ed by Lacto.acillus caesi (75%). Lacto.acillus brevis, Lacto.acillus fermentum and Lacto.acillus lactis were the least iso.ates having (50%) o.currence each. Lacto.acillus plantarum pro.uced the highest amo.nt o. thiamine (5.8833 μg/100ml) and ribo.lavin (5.0400 μg/100ml) while Lacto.acillus lactis had the least thiamine (5.2267 μg/100ml) and Lacto.acillus caesi had the least ribo.lavin (4.8300 μg/100ml). Lacto.acillus casei pro.uced the highest niacin (1.6433 μg/100ml) while Lacto.acillus fermentum had the least (1.2900 μg/100ml). This study reveals Lacto.acillus plantarum as the mo.t efficient thiamine and ribo.lavin pro.ucer while Lacto.acillus casei pro.uced the mo.t niacin.

This study has been embarked upo. due to.increased resistance o. bacteria to.many already synthesized drugs and the high price o. the o.tho.o. medicines in the market, the antimicro.ial effect o. Psidium guajava leaf extracts against selected drug-resistant bacteria will help to.reduce the o.erdependence o. o.tho.o. o. synthetic drugs which greater po.ulatio. o. the so.iety canno. affo.d due to.eco.o.ic/financial restrictio.. Ethano.ic and aqueo.s extracts o. Psidium guajava were assayed fo. antibacterial activity using the agar dilutio. metho. in the determinatio. o. the minimum inhibito.y co.centratio. (MIC) and minimum bactericidal co.centratio. (MBC). The bio.ctive co.po.ents o. the extracts were determined using standard techniques and the inhibito.y activities o. the extracts were co.pared to.gentamicin, cipro.lo.acin, erythro.ycin, azithro.ycin, o.lo.acin, and nitro.uranto.n. The MIC o. the extract o. the test o.ganisms ranges fro. 10 mg/ml - 40 mg/ml. The sensitivity test sho.ed that the o.ganisms were susceptible to.Psidium guajava leave extract except Pseudo.o.as aerugino.a. The phyto.hemical analysis o. the extracts revealed the presence o. bio.ctive co.po.nds such as Tannin, Sapo.in, Balsam, Flavo.o.ds, Alkalo.ds, Cardiac glyco.ides, Carbo.ydrate, Resins, Terpenes, and Stero.s. It has been sho.n that the leaves o. Psidium guajava have antibacterial effects and hence can be used to.treat the ailments caused by tho.e o.ganisms at a particular do.age and co.centratio.. Ho.ever, mo.e research wo.k o. its to.icity level, synergistic o. antago.istic interactio. with o.her plants o. drugs is needed to.co.so.idate its usage.

This paper evaluates the hydro.arbo. pro.pectivity and play risks o. “Bo.” field in Niger Delta Basin, Nigeria. The aim is to.enhance explo.atio. success thro.gh impro.ed appro.ch/technique by inco.po.ating risk analysis that previo.s studies have no. fully co.sidered. This appro.ch co.bines a set o. analyses including stratigraphic/structural, amplitude, petro.hysical parameter, vo.umetric and play risk using a suite o. well lo.s and 3D seismic data. Maximum amplitude ano.aly map extracted o. the surfaces o. delineated 3 reservo.rs revealed 6 pro.pects, namely: Dippers, Cranes, Turaco., Nicato.s, Jacanas and Pelicans with hydro.arbo. accumulatio.. Petro.hysical analysis sho.ed ranges o. values fo. po.o.ity, permeability and water saturatio. o. 0.21 to.0.23, 158.96 to.882.39 mD, and 0.07 to.0.11, respectively. The vario.s pro.pects yielded the fo.lo.ing sto.k tank vo.umes 12.73, 6.84, 3.84, 11.32, 7.42 and 4.76 Millio. barrels (Mbls) each respectively in a co.umn o. 66 ft reservo.r sand in the study area. Play risk analysis results gave: Pelicans and Nicato.s (lo.), Turaco. and Dippers (mo.erate), while Jacanas and Cranes sho. high risk with minimal pro.ise fo. go.d o.l accumulatio.. The aim o. this study was to.analyse the cycles and perio.icities o. annual rainfall o.er Awka regio., Nigeria. This is necessitated by the fact that, despite the fact that wet years co.tribute greatly to.annual flo.ding and gully ero.io. o.served in the area, researches o. cycles and perio.icities o. rainfall in the area are o.vio.sly lacking. This research is, therefo.e, an attempt to.clo.e this gap in kno.ledge. 35 years rainfall data (1975-2010) were co.lected fro. the Nigerian Meteo.o.o.ical Agency (NIMET) Lago. fro. which harmo.ic calculatio. was made using Harmo.ic Analytical Technique. The mo.el pro.uced 13 harmo.ics (cycles) o. which tho.e o. 1, 6 and 11 with amplitudes o. 181.66 mm, 149.42 mm and 126.63 mm and perio.icities o. 35, 5.20 and 2.84 were iso.ated as mo.t impo.tant. All calculatio.s were perfo.med using MINITAB versio. 16 statistical pro.ramme running under PC/Windo.s 98. Fo.lo.ing fro. the findings, it was suggested that Urban and Regio.al Planners, Geo.o.ho.o.ists and Engineers co.ld use the result to.develo. a flo.d and ero.io. management plan fo. the area.

A no.-linear HIV-TB co.infectio. has been fo.mulated and analyzed. The po.itivity and invariant regio. has been established. The disease free equilibrium and its stability has been determined. The lo.al stability was determined and fo.nd to.be stable under given co.ditio.s. The basic repro.uctio. number was o.tained and acco.ding to.findings, co.infectio. diminishes when this number is less than unity, and persists when the number is greater than unity. The glo.al stability o. the endemic equilibrium was calculated. The impact o. HIV o. TB was established as well as the impact o. TB o. HIV. Numerical so.utio. was also.do.e and the findings indicate that when the rate o. HIV treatment increases the latent TB increases while the co.infected po.ulatio. decreases. When the rate o. HIV treatment decreases the latent TB po.ulatio. decreases and the co.infected po.ulatio. increases. Enco.raging co.munities to.prio.itize the co.sistent treatment o. HIV infected individuals must be emphasized in o.der to.reduce the sco.rge o. HIV-TB co.infectio..

HIV is a retro.irus that infects and impairs the cells and functio.s o. the immune system. It has caused a great challenge to.glo.al public health systems and leads to.Acquired Immuno.eficiency Syndro.e (AIDS), if no. attended to.in go.d time. Antiretro.iral therapy is used fo. managing the virus in a patient’s lifetime. So.e o. the sympto.s o. the disease include lean bo.y mass and many o.po.tunistic infectio.s. This study has develo.ed a SIAT mathematical mo.el to.investigate the impact o. inco.sistency in treatment o. the disease. The arising no.-linear differential equatio.s have been o.tained and analyzed. The DFE and its stability have been o.tained and the study fo.nd that it is lo.ally asympto.ically stable when the basic repro.uctio. number is less than unity. The endemic equilibrium has been o.tained and fo.nd to.be glo.ally asympto.ically stable when the basic repro.uctio. number is greater than unity. Numerical so.utio.s have been o.tained and analyzed to.give the trends in the spread dynamics. The inco.sistency in treatment uptake has been analyzed thro.gh the numerical so.utio.s. The study fo.nd that when the treatment rate o. tho.e infected increases, it leads to.an increase in treatment po.ulatio., which slo.s do.n the spread o. HIV and vice versa. An increase in the rate o. treatment o. tho.e with AIDS leads to.a decrease in the AIDS po.ulatio., the reverse happens when this rate decreases. The study reco.mends that the co.munity invo.vement in advo.ating fo. co.sistent treatment o. HIV to.curb the spread o. the disease.

Backgro.nd: As life expectancy o. HIV-infected patients increases with use o. highly active antiretro.iral therapy (HAART), pro.ean haemato.o.ic manifestatio. including decreased activity o. natural antico.gulants such as pro.ein C may o.cur in the absence o. genetic risk facto.s. Based o. this prepo.itio., we assessed the plasma level o. pro.ein C, and prevalence o. facto. V Leiden mutatio. amo.g HIV-infected individuals. o.r co.o.t co.sisted o. 499 HIV-infected patients, o. which 250 had AIDS, while 249 were either asympto.atic o. had mino. muco.utaneo.s infectio. co.sistent with WHo.clinical stages I and II witho.t features o. AIDS. We also.evaluated 251 healthy, HIV-negative subjects as co.tro.s. All participants were tested fo. plasma pro.ein C levels and facto. V Leiden (FVL) mutatio. (Arg 506 Gln) by auto.atio. and amplificatio. created restrictio. enzyme site (ACRES) po.ymerase chain reactio., respectively. The prevalence o. reduced pro.ein C plasma levels amo.g HIV po.itive patients was 20%;it was mo.e prevalent amo.g tho.e that had AIDS co.pared with tho.e witho.t features o. AIDS, but within WHo.clinical stage I and II, (93.3% vs 6.7%) respectively. No.e o. the co.tro. patients had either reduced pro.ein C no. FVL mutatio.. All participants that demo.strated reduced pro.ein C plasma levels demo.strated no.mal FVL geno.ype (1691G/G). Co.clusio.: Decreased pro.ein C plasma levels can o.cur in HIV-infected patients in the absence o. facto. V Leiden mutatio.. The risk increases with severity o. the disease. Deranged pro.ein C plasma level increases the risk o. hyperco.gulable state in patients with advanced HIV disease;it sho.ld be co.sidered amo.g the causes o. thro.bo.embo.ism in this gro.p o. patients.

This study was designed to.determine effects o. peer-health-educatio. o. sexual health kno.ledge and attitudes o. tertiary institutio. students in Imo.State Nigeria by determining the mean gain sco.es o. sexual health kno.ledge and attitudes after peer health educatio.. Quasi-experimental (pre-test-po.t-test) research design was emplo.ed. Two.hundred students drawn fro. the University, Po.ytechnic and Co.lege o. Educatio., using a multi-stage sampling technique participated in the peer sessio.s which were facilitated by trained peer educato.s. Data were analyzed using ANCo.A and Z-test. Findings revealed impro.ed kno.ledge and attitudes o. sexual health, as depicted by po.itive mean gain sco.es. Age gro.p 16 - 20 years had the highest mean gain sco.e ( = 22.31) o. sexual health kno.ledge than the rest, while age gro.p 26 - 30 years had the highest mean gain sco.e ( = 10.59) o. sexual health attitudes. Males had higher mean gain sco.e ( = 26.05) o. sexual health kno.ledge, while females had higher mean gain sco.e ( = 9.77) o. sexual health attitudes.
